While I was reading through the Atlanta trash blogs last week I came across a posting that noted Queen Latifah was recently spotted at Mediterranean Grill while in Atlanta filming a movie. I had passed by this plaza on countless occasions without even considering stopping at this place; nonetheless, I figured if it was good enough for the Queen, then it must be good enough for me. Food: Mediterranean Grill specializes in traditional and well executed Mediterranean fare. On my first visit, I opted to start with the hummus and baba ganouj for appetizers, both of which were accompanied by warm pita and topped with olive oil. Although the pita was slightly too chewy for my liking, the hummus and baba ganouj were exceptional; the flavors were so robust and the texture was perfect. For an entree, I opted for the chicken kabob wrap with a side greek salad. The Greek salad was fairly standard, but the chicken kabob was excellent; the marinade was truly unique and nicely complemented the chicken. In addition to lighter items, they also have a nice selection of larger entrees, including lamb shank, falafel, and grilled shrimp. Service: The interaction with employees is fairly minimal at this place, but the interaction I did have with them was pleasant. Upon entry, you place your order at the counter and then proceed to wait until your number is called. Fountain drinks are self serve and you are responsible for clearing and disposing of your own trash in the provided bins. I dined here for an early lunch (11:30AM) on a Saturday and the time from order to receipt of the food was approximately 5 minutes. Atmosphere: The restaurant is small (~ 10 tables) and the atmosphere leaves much to be desired; however, it's important to remember that this is a mediterranean take-out joint, not a sit down restaurant. Cost: Inexpensive for the quality of the food. Appetizer plates (including pita) range between $4 and $7; both small (serves 2-3) and large (serves 4-6) sizes are available. Pita wraps are around $5 and full entrees are between $8 and $11. A drink and/or side can also be added to each pita wrap for an additional few dollars. Other: In addition to dine-in, both take-out and delivery are also available. No alcohol is served. read more

After trying out the Mediterranean Grill on North Decatur Road, I have become obsessed with this low-key dive. Last night, I swung by the Midtown location, worrying that I wouldn't be able to find it, as other Yelpers have deemed it hard-to-find. But luckily, the glowing sign beckoned me to a small strip of shops just before Kanuga Street. I ordered the same thing I had at the North Decatur eatery: the grilled jumbo shrimp entree. The spices on the shrimp seemed even stronger and more delicious this time. The house salad (real romaine lettuce, tomato and cucumber) stood out with a simple red wine vinegar-based dressing. Plus, I added a kick to my pita bread with yummy tzatziki sauce. This place is cheap and delicious -- and makes me want to visit Greece. read more

I come here so much, I dream about it. Also, when I come here, I pretty much have a dinner party for myself. Anyway, my go-to meal here is the chicken kabob plate that also comes with a salad, rice, and pita bread, which are all amazingly delicious. I also get the olive and feta plate because I just cannot get better feta cheese anywhere else! Seriously! The greek potatoes are a must-get here too. Probably the best I've had. If you wanna try something new, try the tabouli salad. It's not really a salad, but more of a ground-up, chimichurri-sort of mixture that has bulgur, which is a type of wheat, diced tomatoes, onions, herbs, lemon juice, and olive oil. I use it to top it on chicken kabobs and it just adds a whole lotta flavor to it. Overall, I love this place. The portions are really big and the separate side items are big as well. A friend referred me to the Mediterranean Grill near Piedmont Park. Since I first tried it, I go once a week. Parking may be a bit tight sometimes, but this place is worth it. They offer a "Businessman Lunch" special for $5.95 which has salad, gyro, kabob and more with rice. Affordable and very good. Their hummus is the best I've had. I love this place. Last semester, I went here at least twice a week. I love their hummus, one of the best I have had in my life. Pita is hit and miss. There have been some days where the pita is more like pita chips than actual pita. As for what to order, I get either the gyro sandwich, gyro plate, combo feast, or the lamb shank. All are great and all are different. The gyro sandwich is just a gyro sandwich with a side (the potatoes are amazing. get them instead of rice) for $6.36 w/out a drink. Great price and available for dinner, too. It comes with tomatoes inside though, so watch out if you dislike them. The gyro plate is a plate with gyro meat, pita, a greek salad, and a side for around 10 bucks. It is my meal of choice because I like making my own mini-gyros. Ask for the hot sauce, it is amazing. I love ordering it because they know what I get. All the people who work there are cool. The combo feast is the gyro plate, but with less lamb and 2 other meats that I do not know the name of. The lamb shank is a shank of lamb, with rice. When I had it, it was tender and great. FYI: they do not always call your number, so just be alert. Med Grill hot is much better than Med Grill cold. The Mediterranean Grill on Monroe Drive is a bit hard to find. I had to find it initially during the daytime and on foot. It is in a little strip mall, well back from the road. You actually have to turn off Monroe to see it, and figuring where to turn is a trick if you haven't done it. The food is very good, the service is friendly, and the prices are very affordable. I mostly eat a vegetarian diet, and I have purchased the vegetarian plate both times I've been there, so I cannot speak for other items on the menu. I've had better falafel. Theirs is cooked too hard for my taste. It is dense too. I've eaten places where the falafel was lighter and not so hard and enjoyed it more. Maybe you like it hard and dense. If so, you'll love it. The tabbouleh salad is very good...not too oily as I've had it elsewhere. The hummus is smooth with excellent balance of ingredients. The green salad was good...nothing out of the ordinary though. The baba ganoush doesn't have the smoky flavor that I've enjoyed elsewhere, but it is good. I was spoiled years ago by very good pita bread, at a mom and pop cafe in another state. The Mediterranean Grill's pita bread is passable, but gets no raves from me. You order at the counter, get your own drink and utensils, find a seat, and someone brings your food. It seems to be customary to bus your own table before you leave, so I have done so both times. If the falafel and pita bread were better, I would have given this place 5 stars because Mediterranean food is one of my personal favorites. They have another location in Decatur and are opening one in Cobb County (I think) in 2009. read more

I heard them say we will call you when we are there and you will come down to get the food in the lobby. Then he gets on the phone to me saying that they are not doing anymore deliveries tonight. Mediterranean Grill is a great place to get your Mediterranean fix. I've only been to this location, but know of two others. This one is located across the street from Grady High School's football field in the small strip mall. There is parking available, but not a lot of spots. Note - on busier nights...you might need to look for street parking. The restaurant is a bit small, but very inviting. You stand in line to order and pay for your food, then wait for your number to be called. Very easy and quick. Service is again quick and very friendly. A few of my favorites... My wife and I went here for dinner tonight. The sweet tea is very good, as others have mentioned (tastes like there's some rose syrup in there, maybe). The falafel was very impressive -- crunchy and browned on the outside, with great chickpea-herb dough inside. The hot sauce really was hot, and she reports that the grilled chicken kebabs were tasty. We managed to finish an order of the oven potatoes between us -- not for any fault in the food (to the contrary, they were little nuggets of soft creamy potato jacketed in thin crispy exteriors), but because you get so darn much of it for $2.29! Med Grill is by far one of my favorite places to eat and I can probably be found there once or twice a week. They always get me by with great fresh food that tastes great and dependable service. The prices are always enticing. I have introduced many of my friends (and my parents from Charlotte) to this place and everyone loves it. I visited Mediterranean Grill recently on a tip that it has 'the best falafel in Atlanta,' a fact backed up by having won Best in Atlanta for 2006, I believe. It's located in a tiny strip mall right across from Piedmont Park, which I'd drive past a billion times and never really thought of visiting. The place wasn't crowded by any means, so the food was ready quickly. It's counter service, which was a plus, considering that the cashier (a college-aged Greek girl) spent literally the entire time after we ordered walking around the place with a bottle of Windex and her cell phone, rattling on in a no-he-didn't! conversation with one of her girlfriends. She rolled her eyes when we asked for extra sauce, and seemed very peeved that we were delaying her from finding out who did what with whom last night at the Club. Despite the wretched service, the food was quite good. Not the #1 falafel in Atlanta, I think, but still worth the price (about $4.25 for a wrap). The hummus, on the other hand, was some of the best I've had, fresh and flavorful. Though it didn't look like a lot of food, I was very full when I was finished. The restaurant's atmosphere isn't much to speak of. It's basically a hole in the wall with foreign dance music, so definitely casual. I'm a long time customer and I just can't get tired of it. The combo plate with meat mix, salad and rice is my favorite. Their Baba Ghanoush is the best in town. You really can taste the "roasted" flavor of the eggplant. I have tried Babas in some other restaurants and they just don't taste the same. Last night I tried their calamari. Do not judge a book by its cover. I have to admit, I was a little timid to try this place out. The little shopping center is full of great shops, but the nondescript exterior made me a little hesitant. The counter girls are never smiling and not very helpful and you have to pick up your food at the counter and throw away your food. BUT, the food offered here is great. I am a falafel fanatic, and this place is definitely in my Top 5. The portions are pretty sizable, and I always leave with a full stomach. The lunch time specials are a great deal. I would recommend the falafel plate, Greek potatoes, and hummus. It's pretty easy to screw up hummus, but the hummus here is one of its best offerings. The pita is freshly made every day! FYI - You can park here, but don't stray or wander from the lot once you have eaten your meal. There is a parking attendent who is more than happy to boot you. I used to love this restaurant but over the years they've degraded quality as well as quantity. Don't know what changed with this restaurant. The portions are no longer big -- their shish/chicken kebabs are now sliced meat instead of chunks. When I pointed out, they took back a piece of meat from my plate and exchanged it with another slice which had some rice stuck on it -- ewww. The rice with lamb shank was bland and no longer seasoned with nuts. Hiphop music was playing instead of the usual mediterranean music and the servers act like they don't give a damn. Went here for lunch today at the recommendation of a colleague who said it was a great value for their lunch special. It was a good value - I won't argue with that... but the food was mediocre. The gyro meat was pretty bland and the kabob was overcooked and therefore very dry. To their credit, the salad was great and the kofta was quite good. My Other is half Lebanese so when his dad comes down to visit he LOVES coming to this place. We've been here a few times and my Other as well as his dad have mentioned its the best and most authentic food they've had. Maybe Im not a fan of Mediterranean food but not really seeing the draw. This place is ALWAYS busy!(at least the two times Ive been.) You shuffle from one spot to the next stalking tables to be the first to grab it when people are done. The first time we came I ordered the chicken plate. It was dry and seemed overly seasoned. My first impression was far from stellar. The second time we came I ordered the gyro plate. That was pretty good. Much better then the chicken but not something I could foresee myself having a craving for in the future. The salad and rice that come with it were very good. I may go with a full salad next time. So overall you have to try this place at least once. The prices are great and it's a change of pace from what Midtown offers. read more

The Mediterranean Diet is esteemed for favoring fresh vegetables, olive oil, fish, and red wine. Uh huh. Do NOT pull a Subway Jared and eat here twice a day to lose those extra hundred pounds. This is greasy stuff. It's like fast food (hello delicious Greek potatoes!), but pretty good. Many friends are really into this place. I would probably like it more if I was into gyros. The huge stump of meat that they shave for them creeps me out, however. The Med Grill across from Piedmont Park does hold a special place in my heart. Last year at the raucous outdoor St. Patty's party in the park (tongue twister?) there was an alarming lack of bathroom facilities. Most of the time we just walk into Park Tavern like we own the place, problem solved. However, St. Patty's meant tight security against bums like myself. My friend had bought some Med Grill early that day, so any time a member of our group needed to, we'd greet the employees with a "I ordered here earlier!" and they happily accommodated us. Found this place after driving through some sketchy Atlanta neighborhoods. Tucked in a small shopping plaza on a hill, you might never even see it. Authentic middle eastern eats for a fare price. The warps are really good and super filling. The women behind the counter was very friendly and helpful with us ordering. I am really glad I got to try this awesome eatery. Interestingly cool dressing for the Greek salad. I got the chicken kabob sandwich since it's not often that you see one. Thumbs up for that, but then again every time I get something besides a gyro at a Mediterranean place I always end up wishing I got a gyro. Chicken kabab sandwich was good, just too dry for my taste. The wrap itself is pretty dry; the sauce helps but the feta crumbles from the salad is what I really loved adding. On one hand I don't really mind if a place has plasticware instead of silverware, but in this case it was hard to get at the Greek potatoes. Which were 1) not really traditionally done but 2) crispy and delicious. All in all good food at an inexpensive price. Can't complain. Will be back for lunch soon. read more

This rating is based on direct comparison with comparably priced Mediterranean food I've eaten in four other places here in Atlanta. Food was no better than a similar place in Lennox Mall and can't come close to competing with Cafe Agora or Mezza, let alone my favorite--Lawrence's cafe, all of which have better atmosphere, as well. Feta cheese almost rancid--some of the worst I've had. Pita okay. Grilled veggies were plentiful but lacked character and were overlooked. Forgot my order twice and served me 35 minutes after I arrived (checked my phone log to confirm this was not an exaggeration). In fairness I was given a free meal coupon by way of a peace offering. Hummus was good but not my favorite--nothing to complain about. Greek salad had generous quantity of calamari olives but boring iceberg lettuce, poor feta and mushy tomatoes. Poor, confused service notwithstanding I'll return only to use meal coupon and not likely thereafter. Highland Spa next door was great, though. The restaurant is small and tucked away in the fit plaza next to Arden's Garden. Cashier was friendly. This is one of my favorite spots in the city. I love Gyro's and there is nothing better than seeing all that lamb meat on a spit fresh, yum. The Tatziki is usually spot on with the flavor and the greek potatos are seriously good. I've visited here twice (after coming back from events in Piedmont), and the service has been fairly the same. The guy at the counter is quick at taking orders, and the food comes out in less than 5 minutes (during lunch hours). I've gotten the pita wraps both times: the gyro sandwich the first time and the chicken kabob sandwich the second time. The gyro meat was satisfactory: the meat was pretty tender, but not as juicy as I would've liked. The veggies were fresh in the sandwich, and the tzatziki sauce was a nice complement overall. However, the chicken kabob sandwich was disappointing. I don't know if it was just mine, but it was just awfully dry and stringy; I even had times where it was tough biting apart the chicken in the sandwich. I ordered the vegetarian plate, which included 3 falafals, baba ganoush, and tabouli, a salad and pita bread. The baba ganoush was smoky and delicious. The hummus and the falafel were perfect. The salad and the pita bread were fresh, yummy and plentiful. A huge amount of food for $10.00. I have leftovers for tomorrow! Wylie had the lamb and beef gyro plate, which included rice, pita bread and a salad. He ate every bite of his huge meal. My mother eats very little (advanced Alzheimer's), so I ordered the grilled chicken with fried potatoes kids' meal for her. She ate all of her chicken, but only a couple of pieces of the potatoes. I tasted the potatoes and they were delicious. My only complaint is that an order of baklava was not delivered. The food is so fresh, delicious and healthy. read more

Pretty disappointing, actually. My genes are decidedly not Mediterranean, but my taste buds usually love Green / Middle Eastern food and I've eaten A LOT of gyros. So many gyros. I've been here a couple times, and the gyro meat just seems under-seasoned and flavorless. We've got access to a wealth of spices and seasonings that civilizations used to fight wars over, so let's take advantage of that. I can't really speak to authenticity, but I just found the meat here lacking even compared to most other shops in the States, let alone the places in Istanbul. The Greek salad is on point, though it's pretty hard to screw up with feta cheese (for me). I hate to do it, but boy, was I not impressed by the food here. I had a gyro, greek potatoes, and hummus. The pita was tough, which basically ruined the sandwich from the get-go. Conversely, the meat didn't have enough "chew", feeling a little bit mushy - and the whole thing was a bit lacking in flavor. The potatoes were fine. Nothing special, just fine. (You want Greek potatoes that'll knock your socks off? Go to the Greek Festival in a couple of weeks.) The hummus tasted like it had eggs in it, which was weird, but not terrible. I ordered delivery through yelp when I was stuck in GT for this year's game fest. While being in a sweltering hot room with 30 whirring PC's was not great, the arrival of the food was very much anticipated at that point and a well needed break. Food delivery was quick and painless. Their grub hub site was down so luckily I looked at yelp and saw that there was a delivery service here. Good thinking Mediterranean Grill on the back up. The food portions looked relatively generous, and I was in a very Mediterranean mood that week so this was perfect. The food was sloppily thrown into the container, not going to lie about that. But the sauces and pitas were wrapped nicely and on the side. The side salad was pretty good, given it was simply iceberg lettuce with a tomato slice and cucumber. The dressing was very acidic and it tasted pretty good. I had gotten the gyro plate and someone had gotten the gyro sandwich I believe. Don't get the sandwich and definitely get the plate. So much more food. The little sandwich roll was so small, I almost felt bad pulling out my large take out box to his skinny aluminium wrapped food. The food was okay. That's the best I can describe it as. It tasted good wrapped in the pita and with rice and chunks of the meat given it was smothered with the taziki sauce. It's not a bad place. I don't know what eating in is like, but the take out is a solid choice. Med Grill is one of the best lunch spots in Atlanta. The greek potatoes are amazing when dipped in hummus or tatziki sauce. The gyro and vegetarian sandwich are huge and amazing. They wrap them just right so that you peel back the foil one piece at a time so you don't make a mess. If you want lots of hummus and babaghanoush then try the vegetarian plate.
