Our group hosted a farewell party for our tennis coach yesterday. And we couldn't be happier. Food was delicious. I had the chicken kebabs platter, it comes with a little bit of everything, Mary's chicken breast, salad, hummus, pita bread and rice. Chicken breast was tender and juicy, I would eat it everyday if I could. This place is very clean and located right off of Burlingame Ave. Owner Ali is super nice! He asked us what are we celebrating. As soon as he found out it's for our coach's retirement. He sent out complimentary Turkish tea, Baklava and Turkish delights. What a nice gesture! He chatted with us and told us that he used to own a Michelin starred restaurant in downtown San Francisco. He is going remodel this location and I can't wait to see how it will turn out. Wow. We noticed this place a few weeks ago but it was packed so we went to the little Burmese joint around the corner and made a mental note to get back to this adorable little spot. First, I wasn't excited about having to order at the counter, I didn't realize they had the app ordering at the table. That said, the woman at the register was friendly and helpful so I'll likely do that next time too. They have an extensive menu and some GF options (although I just took my digestive enzymes and had the gyros) but I knew what I wanted so the choice was easy. Dolmades Greek salad Gyros plate (lamb & beef) Everything was fresh (yes, I ate the pita bread and I don't care if you judge me) well seasoned and delicious. The salad was truly a meal in itself and for $10 worth every dime. We didn't get any grilled shrimp but I would do that next time. The DOLMADES! YES! Excellent, seasoned rice and the tzatziki was delicious. Now, the main event! The gyros meat was chopped and a bit crispy! HOW? The meat was accompanied with rice and a small salad and hummus (the smoothest ever). Just when we thought we couldn't love this place more, we asked one of the gentlemen (pictured here) what he was carrying and he said "Turkish tea" we made a mental note to try that next trip and behold...he came back with tea for two and baklava (yup...ate that too...Judge away!). I sat outside and ordered from the QR code. My food came quickly and it was both healthy and delicious. The tzatziki is thick and perfectly seasoned, and the falafel are just right. I also had a beet, kale, and walnut salad that was fresh and crisp. As I was finishing my meal, the server brought me a piece of sweet, flaky baklava and Turkish tea served the traditional way in a tulip-shaped glass set on a little saucer. She said it was on the house. That was such a nice touch! The tea is aromatic and tastes like rose - a perfect accompaniment to the pistachio baklava. This restaurant is wonderful. I love the decor, but more importantly the food and service. I ordered a combo plate of gyros and the presentation was beautiful. The tahini, hummus, and everything else was on point. The server was very polite and even brought me a complimentary hot tea and a dessert...not sure what is was but it was honey sweet like baklava...but had strands of wheat (or something) across it. Mediterranean Kitchen is located in downtown Burlingame, across the street from Starbucks, with (metered) street parking available (it was free over the weekend when we came). Since we were down the street at Sunright Tea Studio (that is newly opened), we decided to make a to go order (it was raining this past Saturday evening) for dinner. I made an order online and ended up purchasing: Lamb Shish Kebob Plate, $17.95 prior to tax- My husband decided upon this entree in which it came with rice, a side salad, hummus and pita bread. I didn't eat any of his food but he said he really enjoyed the rice and thought the lamb was cooked perfectly. Greek Salad, $9.95 + Chicken, $5.95 (prices prior to tax)- I opted for a salad and added chicken to it for protein. I had requested for the salad dressing and feta cheese to be placed on the side and was happy to see that they both were packed separately in tiny containers. The salad size was a good portion for 2 to share. I actually only ate half of my salad and saved the other half for another meal 2 days later (and surprisingly it was still just fine, especially with use of romaine lettuce, that typically holds up well over a day or two). The chicken was nicely seasoned and the portion of it was plenty. I wished both my meal and my husband's had more pita bread. Kunefe, $7.95 prior to tax- Kunefe is a dessert that has a layer of cheese (I think its mozzarella or similar) that is baked between two layers of crispy pastry treads. There is also a drizzle of sugar syrup and chopped nuts. I really liked this dessert, especially the textures. The dessert itself wasn't too sweet, which is something I like and would order this again. ----------------------- (Total= $45.82 after tax) Since it was pouring, I waited in the car while my husband walked to the restaurant to get our order (I walked to Sunright Tea earlier in the pouring rain while my husband waited in the car, so it was his turn to walk in the rain). My husband was greeted by a friendly employee who apologized and said our order wouldn't be ready for another 2- 3 minutes. So he offers my husband to sit and asked if he wanted water while he waited. The employee had said that there was just one more item from our order that isn't quite ready (which I suspect was the kunefe and think it probably just needed a few extra minutes in the oven). Although it was pouring, my husband told me he was surprised that the outdoor (covered) seating area was packed with people and that no one was dining inside (odd isn't it? I guess Northern California folks don't mind rain so much). Overall, we had a great experience with Mediterranean Kitchen and would love to dine here again in the near future. read more

I've come here for well over 2 years and this place is by far the best Mediterranean spot in the peninsula. Besides amazing food the staff and incredibly inviting and friendly. One of the owners Ali always gives me free tea and baklava that I try desperately to pay for but he refuses. Once you're a regular here they take care of you. Dining is much more than an experience of food, it's culture. The culture here at MK is exactly what small towns deserve. read more

We ate here for the first time in a long time and were completely disappointed. The chicken and lamb and beef gyro meat used to be so lean and delicious. This time, they were fatty and chewy. The fries used to be crispy and well-seasoned. Today, they were soggy and unsalted. The hummus used to have a perfect consistency and flavor. Today, it was a runny salt bomb. Also, the portions have also been greatly reduced. Maybe the worst part: they no longer serve beer and wine. Bummer. I'm not sure what happened to this place. It used to be so good. read more

Appetizer combo plate always hits the spot! Whenever I don't know what to eat, or after not eating so great this is my go to. Today ordered delivery, and the falafels were the BEST Ive ever had. Crispy on the outside, hot and soft on the inside. I could have eaten 20 of them. My only complaint is the pita bread. I ordered extra to go with all the combos and they sent me a burnt dry one. This place exceeded my expectations. The food was great and fresh. My combo gyros plate was well balanced and also came with hummus and a salad. With the utmost urgency, our server ran over with a plate of hummus and pita. And asserted it was on the house. Wow! The atmosphere was great and added to the enjoyment of our meal. Nice open space, clean, and energetic music (but not obnoxious and not too loud). As we finished our meal a waitress came with tea and baklava for me and my girlfriend. She said it was on the house! I got the lamb and beef gyro plate. I like how I can sub rice for more salad without an extra cost. However the gyro was pretty dry. I'd come back again to try the kofta, which my husband got, but I'll avoid the gyro at all cost. Portion was big so you'll be stuff after this meal even if you're not eating any rice. We've been here twice and really like the CHICKEN LEMON SOUP with orzo and a generous amount of chicken MIXED COMBO GRILL (Combination of Chicken Souvlaki, Beef Shish Kebab, Lamb And Beef Gyros & Chicken Gyros) LAMB AND BEEF SHISH KEBAB CHICKEN GYRO PLATE (though I think the CHICKEN SOUVLAKI is better) The above dishes are served with tasty rice, hummus, salad, and pita On a subsequent visit, I had, BUT would NOT recommend the GRILLED SALMON AND PRAWNS COMBINATION PLATE (though the prawns, salad, and rice were really good, the fish was dry and did not taste fresh). For someone craving seafood, I would stick with the prawns. The entire staff is super friendly and attentive. The ambience is really nice. And for those with attention deficit disorder (for which I can relate), there are screens all over the place. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars because the service is exceptional. I ordered for pickup and everyone was so friendly upon my arrival. My order was hot and ready as soon as I stepped in the door, and the owner double checked that everything was there, exactly as ordered. The team even threw in a free dessert! The food was hearty, filling, and fresh. The greek spices had the right amount of zest. However, the meat was on the dry side. Especially the beef and gyros. Still tasty, but not "melt in your mouth, eyes roll to the back of your head," tasty. Maybe next time the proteins will be be more juicy and tender. But all of the sides were great. This is a solid option for a healthy, fresh, cost-effective, and filling meal. read more

Unintentionally stumbled on this place while looking for a quick bite, and I was pretty surprised by how great this place was! There's a fairly extensive menu so there's plenty to try! The concept is that you come in, order at the counter, and find a table to take a seat in. We came in for lunch on a Tuesday, and there were plenty of seats indoors and outdoors. Service was pretty quick, and food came out in about 10 minutes. We ordered the chicken souvlaki plate, as well as the lamb and beef gyros hummus bowl. Highly, highly recommend the chicken souvlaki plate!! It came with a side salad, as well as rice that was really well flavored. The chicken cubes were tender and juicy, and they were seasoned perfectly. The lamb and beef gyros hummus bowl was also delicious, but I felt that the ratio of protein to hummus was a bit off. Also wished they provided more pita bread for the hummus bowl. Mediterranean Kitchen made it to become my favorite Mediterranean spot in the Bay Area. Flavor was all there and would highly recommend giving this place a try!! read more

Surprisingly no line, almost empty Saturday at 12:15. All of the eateries on Burlingame Avenue are packed with very long lines. After eating here 3 times, I do not know why there are so many positive reviews. It's rarely busy here and the food is just ok. The special lamb dumplings lacked flavor. Other dishes were barely average. Staff is very nice, but that does not compensate for lackluster food when there are so many other alternatives nearby. read more

Wonderful wonderful wonderful! I love the food! The appetizer combo is just splendid because you get to taste it all! I loved everything so definitely will be back for this combo plate. Not a single negative. We also ordered the combo plate which also had all the meats. With the combination of the meat plate and the appetizer combo plate, everything was complimentary to each other. You only need these two things to taste it all and fill up! The decor of the restaurant is very airy and makes you feel like you've stepped into the Mediterranean. Such a cozy, homey, family-run vibe! Found this place on a night where we were craving healthy food but also didn't want to cook. Located in the heart of vibrant Burlingame, the food was exactly what we were looking for! We ordered the appetizer combo platter which consisted of various Mediterranean dips served with the softest pita bread (we couldn't pick a favorite - all so good!), the combo gyro platter which had two different types of lamb, chicken, and beef (all 10/10), and the Greek salad. It's a pay before you eat kind of place, but we were so pleasantly surprised with how attentive and wonderful the service was that we added an additional tip at the end. I order from here frequently (2-3 times a month). The rainbow salad and beets and green adding on the grilled chicken is my go to every time. Sometimes I'll add in the Greek fries or baba ghanoush. All of it is good and consistent. There was one time the chicken was different but other than that it's consistent. Fast, wonderful service and good food - what more could you ask for? I got to try their salmon wrap with a half hummus and half baba ghanoush with pita bread. The salmon was cooked well (not dry at all) and came with a great creamy slaw on the inside and had a side sauce as well. The hummus and baba ghanoush was fresh and was also a hefty portion. They didn't charge extra to do half and half. Towards the end of dinner, the servers brought out complimentary Turkish black tea and baklava which was the perfect dessert to end the night. Mediterranean Kitchen is a casual restaurant with a spacious dining room and a menu of Turkish-style Mediterranean dishes. We started with the Appetizer Combo Plate, which came with a bunch of different mezzes including creamy hummus, chunky baba ghanoush, a thick tzatziki, sweet and earthy muhammara (red pepper and walnut paste), falafels, and dolmades, all plated beautifully in a round, sectioned platter, and served with pita bread on the side for dipping. Another highlight appetizer was the Kreatopita, a flaky, crispy baked phyllo dough pie with a ground beef filling--similar to spanakopita but with meat. We were trying to find a place to eat and we couldn't decide which one we want to go. One of my friends said "Why don't we try this one?" and we are just right in front of this restaurant. We walked in and placed our orders, paid and got our number and find our own table. The Kreadopita was cold, dry and not crispy. It doesn't taste good. The Rainbow Salad and Falafel Plate were pretty tasty but for the meats in the Mix Combo Grill were so dry. We think the meat was already cooked and they just reheated it. So dry!!!!!!! This place is big and with nice music but the customer service needs to be improved ... - We have to get our own water and they forgot to give us a plate to share our food in.
