Terrible service. I waited 30 Minutes for a burrito at 11 am. I asked why it took so long and the lady who took my order said "We had a big order in front of you." My burrito fell apart and wasn't wrapped properly. The salsa isn't good. I heard the microwave beeping noise constantly. I would not recommend this place. I went here because Boni's was closed. We vacation in Cambria at least once a year. Been here a couple of times. Not very crowded whenever I go in there, so I hope it stays in business. Food is delicious. I got a burrito and rolled chicken tacos for my dinner and my wife got the Tostada. Grew up in San Diego most orders of rolled tacos have three rolled tacos with Guacamole and Cheese. When I explained what I was thinking the lady behind the counter said that they could put cheese on it, but I would have to get the Guacamole separately. Fair enough. So that's what I did. They weren't gone too long and the food was nice and warm when they returned. My simple quesadilla was huge. I barely ate half of it. The cheese was melted between the warm flower tortilla. Hole in the wall place with some interesting art on the wall. Felt less like I was in Cambria, and more like I was in Mexico. Not a bad thing, kind of neat. However, having not been in before, wasn't sure if I was to go to the counter or be seated. Kind of awkwardly stood at the register until the lady mumbled "here or to go?" and I told her here, so she directed me to sit. Didn't offer a drink of any kind but brought back chips and salsa. Chips were cold- like ice cold, which was kind of off-putting, but the salsa had a good flavor. Prices aren't cheap here. You can hear your food being microwaved. Enchilada sauce was okay, melted cheese had a weird texture- did not know that was a thing, but it was. Rice lacked flavor. Soft drinks are $3.25 each and you're only allowed one refill. Pet peeve of mine, knowing how much money places make off of sodas. Would I return? Hm, maybe. Service was inattentive and definitely catered to the regulars that were in the place- maybe were family? This place isn't bad, nor is it great. If the prices were lower, I'd be more apt to come back, but I feel like there are better options when in Cambria. read more

We called in an order as out of town visitors as we wanted to take it out to our nice hotel. We had bought a bottle of wine that day and wanted to chill by hotel fireplace. Call in was pleasant. Food was ready when promised. Restaurant had a good number of customers. When we opened up take out boxes, all was there. But first concern: "sizzling steak" on plate grande looked like the top of a worn leather glove. We didn't expect sizzling. But not tough and so thin. Fish tacos? Ok. Grilled chicken tacos. Chewy too. All pretty bland as is, though extra salsas were decent. Rice? Meh. Retried beans? Ok. Chips and salsas? Ok, fine. I visit Cali fairly and am rarely disappointed with Mexican there, from trucks to fancy. I had nice hopes for Medusa but we were both quite disappointed in the food. My one bad experience in Cambria. I asked the cashier for suggestions and the cook walked over and started to answer me then walked off and trailed off. Ummm hello did you decide you were done talking to me? The girl at the register just stared at me kind of rude and said nothing. Ummmm did I have something on my face lol. Honestly I'm glad I didn't get past the rude employees because the place was DIRTY inside...dust and a layer of grime everywhere and no employees were wearing masks. We saw "homemade" mexican food on their sign. Their facebook said they make the best in town. Ordered a 2 item combo plate priced at $20.95 and heard NO grill, NO sizzling, nothing in the kitchen. All I heard was a microwave buzzer 3 different times. When she brought my plate, it did not even look appetizing and I asked "Was this just microwaved?" She said YES! I said "Im sorry, Im not eating here. Im not eating microwaved food cooked I dont know when." She then asked "Are you going to pay for it...we made that for you! WOW! They microwaved...they didnt "make" anything. I said "No! I am not paying for microwaved food I could have purchased in the freeezer section and reheated myself." The restaurant itself is nice and the food is okay. If you're looking for a convenient bite it will definitely do. The people were nice. The only thing I didn't like is that they put a lot of ice in the margarita pitcher we ordered. So much that we only got about 3 margaritas out of it. It would have been cheaper to just order them separately. I would suggest that the business put less ice and make the pitcher worth almost $30 and we would have ordered another. read more

Coastal Mexican food is different from what I'm used to, but I could tell that it was authentic. Their micheladas are also amazing and spiced very well. Their Salsas were also very flavorful, and the spice was just right (may be hot too hot for most Americans). I had their Tacos de camaron (shrimp) and the Medusa's Michelada. It was just so so. Most ingredients Mexican food uses are not expensive and easy to make. They put way tiny amount of cheese on dishes and I think the cheese is the most expensive ingredient in Mexican food. The beans are just warm up from the can and nothing adding the taste(actually that's why only beans were taste ok). I think they can survive because it's such a small town there. I had the most salty salsa ever here and food was nothing impressive. The only good thing is our waiter(it could be the owner) was super nice. No.... no micheladas, sorry. Chris: OK.... corona por favor. I had the carne asada burrito with onions, cilantro, beans, rice, and cheese inside topped with red sauce and cheese. As others mention this place uses a microwave which is pretty lame especially when you hear the loud DING!. The carne asada was cooked on the griddle but I think they use the microwave to melt the cheese which didn't do a very good job. Taste wise though it was very good. All the carne asada was flavorful with not a single gristly chewy piece. Huge burrito too, I was stuffed. Donna had the cheese enchilada and taquito combo plate. She said it was OK, nothing special. Chips and salsa they provided were pretty good. I'd probably come back next time I'm in town. Awesome service. Great food. Nice atmosphere. Only downside I could find was lack of parking nearby. My opinion only but recommended.

Been wondering about this place for years and we finally decided to go in and give it a shot. Very hole in the wall style/vibe with Javier's Newport Beach pricing but one step up from Taco Bell and one step down from Chipotle (I rarely go to either). The rice had little flavor and the beans were pasty lacking flavor and chintzy on the cheese. Not a good start. The beef in the burrito had too many chewy rejected pieces in it. The Mexican place up the street is equally as bad but at least had a pseudo restaurant vibe. What made matters worse was no folksy charm and the prices were a month highest I have paid for Mexican food even at higher end Mexican restaurants. Cambria has plenty of places to eat but so far no decent Mexican or Italian restaurants eateries. Ok pizza and tacos can be found but not at the Italian and Mexican restaurants and certainly not this one. Cambria does a good job of keeping their restaurants in business even if they are terrible. Got to Los Osos for good Mexican food in the back bay. read more

What I really liked about this place was the cool interior with the painted walls. Another "Cambria" touch was that the menu was neatly written on a large chalk board. this place has LEGIT Mexican food. Tried it on a mini-vacation after my girl found this place on Yelp. I'm glad we did I am usually weary of Mexican food places as I grew up in a 100% Mexican household and am usually less than impressed when I Do try a new place. Having said that... This place is pretty good. A lot better than most "Mexican food" places I have tried back in Orange County, Santa Ana included. The obligatory free chips-and-salsa-while-you-wait were nice and fresh. As I have learned in my long travels; warm, freshly fried chips and a savory salsa at a Mexican joint usually indicates good food is coming soon. The menu was varied but I decided on the Torta with Carne Asada (steak). The meat was cubed and cooked to perfection. I was impressed by the fact that there was no excess fat or gristle on the meat as is usual in the aforementioned Mexican slop houses. My girl got the fish tacos. She can usually take down three in one sitting, so she ordered three. She couldn't finish the third one. It might have been all the cabbage on the tacos, but she could easily have removed some of it and had a cabbage salad on the side. She mentioned the fish sauce was tasty. The rice and beans that came with her tacos were also surprisingly delish. Another one of those mex-house staples that is often painfully overlooked by the typical overpriced hole-in-the-walls. This place sits high above the Frey, with its charming decor and ACTUAL Mexican cook (can't tell you how many tell you how many times I've ordered "authentic" Mexican food from some hipster kid.) I would highly recommend this place to anyone who comes to visit Hearst Castle and gets a craving for Legitimate Mexican Counter Cuisine. read more

As soon as we sat down, we were served chips and salsa. Salsa was good, fresh and has a slight kick. (not too spicy) We ordered Kids Bean & Cheese burrito - pretty good size for a child meal. I had a regular Carne Asada burrito w black beans - it was huge, had to take over half of it to go... Hubby had fish burrito, and said it was pretty good. When in the area, this is a place to dine. YUMM We both had Huevos Rancheros and it was good stuff. Cooked just right, the eggs were neither too hard nor too runny. The Salsa was nice and rich, but not too spicey. Coming from SoCal, I have pretty high standards for Mexican food, and sadly Medusa's didn't live up to those standards. My mom and I went there after a long morning seeing the elephant seals and touring Hearst Castle. There's barely any parking -- the parking lot in the back has labeled spots for each business in the complex, and Medusa only has one up there. When we arrived, there weren't many people there (which is great since there also aren't many tables). We ordered beef enchiladas and a wet chicken burrito in red sauce. Service was fast and good, and we got some chips and spicy salsa to crunch on while we waited. Unfortunately, while both the beef and chicken themselves were tasty, the trappings on both dishes weren't that great. The beans, rice, and fillings of the burrito and enchiladas were fairly tasteless. Tldr, not much parking, not great Mexican food, but decent prices. You could probably do better in Cambria. read more
