I am so glad I did not let my hunger and laziness combine to eat at a less than mediocre Mexican restaurant that was next to my Inn. Instead, I found Medusa's on yelp and was excited to find it was only about a 5 minute drive from us. So, we drove over and to our dismay the parking is absolutely wretched because Medusa's is on a Main Street and so parking is limited. We got lucky that someone was leaving and took their spot. Walking in we found there's only a total of 5 tables--all taken. We waited about 10 minutes for a table but still placed our order. Originally craving carnitas tacos, I skimmed over the menu and saw they had molcajete which I've only ever had once before but upon instantly reading they had it, we ordered it. This is meant for 2 people, but after getting it at the table, really one person can have it. It's safe to say I was disappointed with the portion. 3 small pieces of steak, 3 small pieces of chicken, 4 small shrimp and some cactus and jalapeños all in a stone bowl with boiling red sauce. It came with a side of tortillas and beans and rice which I didn't get a pic of, but believe it was enough for one person. The molcajete was so delicious but we left a bit hungry because of the portion. In terms of spice I thought it was a 6-7/10 with a slow burn. Scott thought it was a 3/10 in terms of spice. Obviously my spice threshold is low. :) The service is slow (one person) and the food did take forever to come but it was still good. I liked the chips and salsa too. My wife ordered the wet burrito and tonight I'm doing the red enchiladas with cheese. We always love their stuff! Hole in the wall kind of place. Perfect clue for decent, authentic Mexican faire. It's got the whole range of what you're looking for, from tacos to tortas and enchiladas. We always come here when in town at Cambria. It's a combo Mexican deli and take out place, plus tiny sit down spot. They have bar stools outside for eating at a counter top, handy if you brought Fido, who's not welcome inside. Located in the no-man's zone between east Cambria and west Cambria, it's easy to spot on Main Street. Just look up for the colorful Medusa sign. read more

Took my daughter and her friend on a road trip to visit the elephant seals and we're staying in Cambria. The girls were craving Mexican food so we drove down the length of Main Street to scout out our choices. There were a few options but we decided on Medusa's because it looked a bit "divey" and those are my favorite places to find good food. We came for an early dinner around 4:00pm because we skipped lunch, so we were pretty hungry. The waiter was very attentive, brought us chips and salsa immediately and brought out our drink orders within minutes. The chips were thick, crisp and not greasy, didn't need salt, and the salsa was very tasty. I ordered the beef taquitos which were equally crisp and not greasy and the beef was nicely flavored. The beans and rice were also nicely flavored and the rice was moist (I hate it when beans are bland and the rice is dry). The taquitos came with the perfect amount of guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and salsa. The girls each ordered carne asada burritos with rice, beans, and cheese which were huge. They said they were very tasty, only complaint was that the tortilla was slightly dry which made the burrito open up a bit. Food came out quickly, waiter checked on us at least 3 times and was very friendly. As other reviewers mentioned, it isn't the tidiest place, but has fun, colorful murals on the walls and they are supporters of local sports teams and display business cards of local business, big pluses in my book. I will definitely come back when I visit again. This is the kind of place I'd eat at if it was in my hometown. This says a lot, as my family eats A LOT of Mexican food. read more

Off the beaten path on Main Street, this little taqueria packs a good punch for the money. Eat in for chips and salsa. I opted for the tacos, rice and beans. The carnitas were great and fried to perfection. The carne asada was tasty but in little bits and pieces with very little authentic flavor. They both came with a side of rice and beans. Best. Salsa. Ever. My family of 11 came here after a day at the beach starving, at the recommendation of one of the locals, 6 adults, 5 kids, they happily accommodated us in their tiny hole in the wall establishment. The food was some of the best Mexican food I've ever had, and that's coming from a Mexican, not to mention where we live, in Fresno, we have an abundance of good Mexican food, so the bar is high. Service was just as excellent. I onWould definitely recommend and I can only hope to return sooner rather than later. Best food we had all weekend. We tried this place for a Monday night dinner while on vacation, and were pleased with the food and service. Place was a little small and got full after we arrived. We were seated promptly, waitress took our order of the seafood enchilada plate with crab meat/fish/& shrimp with green sauce on top and rice/beans, two of us had the fish taco dinner, kids had the cheese quesadilla with rice and beans as well as chicken taquito a la carte. Our wait was not too long. She brought chips and salsa, even offered to refill our chips which were very good and crunchy. The food came and we all liked that it was authentic homemade style of cooking. The decor was interesting. Prices were reasonable. after a full day exploring san simeon and visiting hearst's castle, we decided to stop by cambria for dinner before returning to our hotel since it was on the way. thanks to yelp, we were able to find a mexican restaurant to satisfy my husband's taco and tortilla chip cravings. as soon as we ordered, we were brought a basket of tortilla chips which were warm and crispy, served with some medium-spiced salsa. as soon as i heard medium, i stayed away, since i am a spice wimp. the chips were good though, salty with just a touch of oil, and filled my empty tummy while i waited for my entree. hubby ordered the carnitas tacos plate, which consisted of 2 tacos and rice and beans. while i didn't try, he pretty much devoured everything on the plate, so either he was really hungry, or the food was really good, or both! i ordered the butternut squash enchiladas, which came with salad, rice, and beans. i requested no cheese on my enchiladas. when i asked whether the green sauce was spicy, i was told that it was not spicy, however, when i bit into the enchiladas, i felt that that they were spicy. not sure if this was the enchilada itself or the green sauce, but the entire sensation burned my mouth. the salad was fresh, and the rice and black beans were good, without a hint of spice. service was good, but no frills, since this is not a fancy restaurant. there is one small bathroom in the back, for employees and guests. free parking on the street or in the library parking lot. read more

We had the supreme burrito w/ carnitas, beef taquitos and butternut squash enchiladas and they were all amazing. Their carnitas burrito is the best one I've ever had, the carnitas were seared/crunchy and not greasy like most conventional cooking which is something I love. Super delicious and quaint taqueria. They make everything fresh so it takes a few extra minutes to wait for your food but nothing to be discouraged over. The burritos are huge as they should be and my two taco plate was so savory and satisfying! Support this business and enjoy some of the best tacos in town. Right off the main road from Big Sur down to LA this was a quick excursion that was easy to find. We we're the only ones there for an early weekday breakfast and were seated right away. Definitely a no frills setting but the decor and mural were really sweet. Plenty of parking in the area, not really popping @ 8am on a Tuesday. Pretty extensive breakfast menu that included pancakes and french toast along with regular Mexican breakfast and breakfast burritos. The veggie burrito was good, a bit odd that it was more expensive than the meat one though. Salsa was great. Chilaquiles was excellent and a massive portion so if there is something to recommend it's probably that. The food was more expensive than I thought it would be given the feel of the place and the quality but its still the best deal in the area. Loved that they have a $3 charge for non customers using the restrooms, it would definitely be cheaper to buy a soda or something. read more

The sausage breakfast burrito is good too, but the chorizo makes this one a home run! Go straight for the chile de arbol... I know the sign says it's extremely spicy, and it is, but so flavorful it's worth the burn. They also make a fantastic breakfast torta. Not on the menu, but they will make it for you if you ask nicely! The bread is soft and delicious! Smothered with beans, avocado, chorizo, crispy lettuce, eggs, jalapeños, and onion. Was passing through Cambria and had a craving for Mexican Food. Found Medusa's on yelp. It's a small restaurant with two booths and three tables inside. The chips and salsa were tasty. I ordered a 2-item combo which included a chicken enchilada and chili relleno. I preferred the chili relleno over the enchilada. The chili relleno was favorable with just the right amount of batter so you could actually taste the chili. I wasn't blown away by the enchilada as I felt the sauce was kinda bland. Upon entering this crammed, dingy, and poorly lit "restaurant" that has a total of three tables that seat 4 and a long table that will seat 8, the man "running the place by himself" states he could only do to go orders or we could wait til the cook got there at 4:30. Confused and since it was raining we asked if we ordered to go if we could sit inside and eat (there was currently a couple eating and it was 4:08pm) and he rudely replied "that's the thing I'm by myself I can cook you to go food." Who would've thought that you would find an authentic taqueria in Cambria? But I'm lucky we did! This place was a solid 3 stars for food quality, service and value. It was a rainy Saturday night and almost closing time. However, the staff never hurried us or made us feel unwelcome. They took the time to explain the specials and menu. My BF had the chicken enchilada and I had the nachos with carne asada. Both were DELISH! Our sodas were always refilled and come by our table to check on us often enough that we didn't need to ask for anything, but not so often that it seemed like they wanted to get rid of us. It's small but mighty. The server was friendly and put gloves on when it was time to bring out the food. I had a veggie burrito and my guy had taquitos (chicken and beef) and a steak burrito.
