Absolutely loved the new dishes on the menu: Pathar ka Ghost and Guava Chili Sorbet Chaat. Pathar ka Ghost was uniquely prepared on top of Himalayan Sea Salt slab. We were recommended to flip the meat so the saltiness is absorbed on both sides of the flattened lamb meat. This was my favorite for the night! Guava Chili Sorbet chaat was innovative blend of natural Guava sweetness and Indian green chili spices mixed with onions, tomatoes and peanuts. The presentation was fun. We've been to Jashn 5 times now since they first opened. While the service remains excellent, there was a noticeable decline in the food quality in each successive visit. On our most recent visit we ordered 6 food items: * the chaat was good, creatively executed * the corn seekh kebab was raw and inedible and had to be sent back. To their credit they did not charge us for that item, or the chaat * the Andhra style chili chicken came out as a glob of unrecognizable stuff, and we couldn't even tell what the white strips on top were because they were so mushy * based on the texture and smell the fish they used in the red snapper curry had been frozen at some point--one would expect them to source fresh seafood * the okra was tough and stringy, a sign that they used poor quality okra * the reshmi paratha was dripping in oil/butter, and not hot when it was served To top it all off, they let someone bring a dog into the indoor eating area. Which I'm sure is a health code violation. It seems they've started cutting corners in the kitchen, and it shows up in the product. The problem is mostly back-of-house Jashn had so much potential when they first opened, and it's disappointing that things have gone downhill. We will not be going there again. read more

Overall, a really great experience. You can tell they're trying some creative and unique concepts, and most of the dishes were executed very well. We started with the Guava Chaat, which was amazing. It was served cold but was incredibly flavorful and refreshing. The Andhra Chili Chicken was another standout--a delicious take on Indo-Chinese chili chicken with bold Indian flavors. We also had the Paneer Tikka, which was incredibly soft, well-marinated, and packed with flavor. My favorite appetizer was the Vada Bao. The bao was perfectly fluffy and filled with delicious Indian-inspired flavors. We also had the lamb chops served on a hot stone, which were excellent and cooked beautifully. For the mains, the dal was good, and I especially enjoyed the saag paneer. We also tried the white butter chicken. I was expecting something more like the classic Chawla-style white chicken, but this version was richer and heavier than anticipated. It was still good, just different from what I expected. Lovely ambiance. We were here to celebrate a special occasion. The decor needs a special mention! The staff were so much fun and made the experience better. We ordered a few small plates. Pani Puri Surprise (3/5) was a bit of disappointment. Seemed bland. Fritters with chaat (4/5), I do not remember the dish name, but this was good. The best was the Vada Bao (5/5). It is a great twist on the traditional Vada Pav with Bao buns. It was fun and yummy. For the main dishes, we ordered pinwheel ghatta (4/5) with chur chur naan (4/5) and onion kulcha (4/5) and Donne Biryani (4/5). We ordered Rose Khulfi for dessert. The experience stands out and it was super yummy. Kokum drink (3/5) was just ok We were also served a small special treat (chocolate cake) to celebrate the birthday. It was made well, had a good char and the flavors ran deep into the meat. The chicken was extremely tender as well. Avocado tikki-3.5/5- slightly salty. Come to think of it, the other vegetarian dish we got - water chestnut kofta was a bit salty as well. Crispy outside and very soft inside. Decent but not noteworthy. Kala mutton-3/5- the mutton was tough in parts and the gravy lacked a punch which meat normally needs. Pressure cooker chicken-3.5/5- this was Andhra style chicken gravy and it came directly to our table in a small cooker. The consistency was a bit watery and though the flavors were present it was on the milder side. Donne biryani-4/5- wonderful rich flavor, the rice absorbed the flavors wonderfully as well. Too much meat and very little rice and there was fat accumulated at the bottom. Rose Kulfi experience- Experience-5/5 Rose kulfi-3.5/5 Family enjoyed the experience of watching the liquid nitrogen convert the sweet Rabdi into icecream. We got to crush a frozen red rose into the rabdi as well before it got converted to icecream. we had visited the sister locations and had our eyes on this one for a while. Had a chance to visit for a birthday celebration in the family. The place was crowded but we were seated writhing five minutes without any reservations. The staff paid attention to what we wanted and brought food for our hangry toddler within minutes. Subdued ambiance but ample of space with wide back sofas. It definitely has a contemporary vibe. For starters we got fire grilled chicken, rava branzino fish, kala Maa's tacos and Dani k kebab. Table voted Kaaba number 1. Fish and chicken were also flavorful. Definitely recommend those. We ordered cocktails and liked the take on Mai tai with mango. In the mains we ordered white butter chicken and took me to childhood memories of malai kofta. Shrimp curry was not as flavorful as other dishes but wouldn't mind to order it. The chur chur naan was not a great choice. Buttered roti was the most favorite. We ended it with rose kulfi; no wonder people visit this place for it. New restaurant! Did a walk-in and was able to sit at the bar with my friend. Had a great experience, got to talk to the owner and bartenders and everyone was so sweet. They just opened 2 months ago but it looked busy; make a reservation! Best part was the dessert: rose kulfi. They make the ice cream in front of you with liquid nitrogen and you get to crush the freeze dried rose yourself. Very unique experience. I enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. Vegetarian Kofta came with a delicious spicy sauce. Usually I don't like ordering bone marrow, but The Beef Bone Marrow Nalli Nihari came with beef shank on the side so it felt more worth it. I was hesitant to try Jashn's elevated Indian cuisine, but the experience was a pleasant surprise. I'm usually skeptical of modern or contemporary Indian restaurants since they often dilute flavors or rely too heavily on Western-style presentation, but Jashn largely avoids those pitfalls. While you pay a premium for ambiance and plating, most dishes were well executed and did not take shortcuts on spice depth. It's a good choice for special occasions, date nights, and business dinners, and better in my opinion to similar concepts like Jaks or The Yellow Chilli. The Goat Chops arrived with an impressive flambé presentation and were the group's favorite. The masala used in the braise had layered depth and properly slow cooked. I'll note though that it was on the salty side, so I'd ask for the naan or rice to be served with it. The Laal Maas tacos had great flavor, but the thepla shells kept breaking apart. I suggest increasing dough hydration, fat, and starch content, along with longer kneading and resting. A small amount of vital wheat gluent would give the thepla the strength and slight chew needed for this dish. The Andhra-style Chilli Chicken had the right idea but would benefit from a bolder, more assertive seasoning profile since I found it on the blander side. The har gao dumplings, though beautifully pleated, were expensive even by Chinese upscale standards and lacked the plumpness expected of good dim sum. Larger pieces of prawn or chicken-leg mixed in with the finely grounded meat, and a small amount of starch would give them the characteristic bouncy texture I'm looking for in good har gow. The chili oil and soy accompaniments were well executed. The Karnataka-style biryani was one of my personal favorites since it was distinct from the Hyderabadi style most Americans are familiar with. Its shorter rice grains and green masala base gave the dish a fresh and aromatic contrast. The Beef Nihari had solid depth of flavor, with long-cooked spices shining through, though the addition of bone marrow didn't significantly enhance the traditional nihari gravy. The Home-Style Chicken Curry was as the description suggested comforting and nostalgic. It had very straightforward flavors that reminded me of the homemade chicken curry my neighbors would give me when I was younger. The only miss was the White Butter Chicken, which tasted like jarred alfredo sauce to me. The kasuri methi aroma was faint, possibly due to the methi not being adequately bloomed in ghee. I thought it was because I ate with with a lot of other strong flavors that night, but the dish was still bland and alfredo-like when I ate it alone for leftovers the next day. Across the full menu, I really appreciate the consistently tender and juicy meat. This was a nice contrast from so many other local restaurants that serve the overcooked dry, mushy, or stringy meats. Beverages were flavorful but leaned sweet. I'd urge the staff to be more attentive in distinguishing alcoholic from non-alcoholic drinks to avoid accidentally giving the wrong drink to pregnant or nursing guests. The Rose Kulfi dessert was memorable. It was served with an engaging tableside liquid-nitrogen presentation and was not too sweet unlike kulfis at other places. Service was on the slower side, which is understandable for a new restaurant, but the staff remained attentive and checked in regularly. None of the dishes were exceptional enough to justify ordering delivery at these prices, but were all solid for dine in. Despite a few early-stage recipe and execution issues, Jashn has promise and is worth visiting for special occasions. We were served the Three Roots chaat almost immediately, and it was excellent (5/5). However, the main courses took about 20-25 minutes to arrive. The Veg Kebab plate, served with salad and rice, was good but felt incomplete. I was expecting a gravy or sauce, as it was quite dry (4/5). The lamb chops had a great presentation (they do the tableside fire thing, which is fun), but the flavor itself was bitter and fell flat. The cocktails, though? The Franklin mall area is great to go out to eat but the bar option always just been two dives, so it's nice there's an upscale joint now too. I just came here for a drink, didn't try the food. But the ambiance is nice and the drink was really good. My main complaint and take away was the staff seemed to be instructed to be overly friendly. Host complimented me and it felt disingenuous, the bartenders really tried to conversate, and the manger walked passed and drove by interrupted the convo I was having with my friend. It was really jarring honestly. I think they just need to tone down the friendliness and let people settle into and enjoy the space, and engage if the guest wants. Small plates are smaller as described and the ambiance was nice. The flavors were okay in my opinion. My favorite dish was the Paneer parche, and the shiso leaf chaat and thecha anda had good flavor. The naan was a bit hard but flavor was nice, the pressure cooker chicken was cute in the mini pressure cooker but only had a couple pieces of chicken in it, the pani puri was too sweet for my taste, and the andhra chicken was flavorful but did not have any expected 'andhra' style taste to it, the prawns and veg biriyani were also just okay. I have had Jalsa catering at several events and have loved their food, so this didn't hit the same way. But still a nice place for a family meal with a bit of theatrics which can be fun. read more

My boyfriend (who is Indian) and I love fine dining. We've been to many michelin star restaurants including a couple Indian michelin restaurants. I would say the food style and presentation here reminds me of Benares, the one-Michelin starred restaurant, in London! The consistency of the food here is not star distinction worthy, but I would say it is still exceptional and worth a visit since Indian fine-dining is so hard to find in the states. My bf took me and his family here. We shared most of the dishes family style. First of all, the portion sizes are small. Make sure you order a few dishes. Maybe not for everyone if you're price conscious but personally like it because I like to try out multiple items on the menu. The best dishes we tried were the 3 root chaat, the baked paneer "parche", shishito pepper corn kofta, flame-grilled chicken, and the stirfried prawns covered in a chili paste (I forgot the name of the dish). You must get the 3 root chaat! I love papdi chaat and this is a perfect re-interpreted version of it. I had to order a second one. My second favorite were the prawns but they are kind of spicy. Probably a 3 out of 5 on the spice level if you can't handle too much spice like me. If you usually eat spicy then maybe it would be mild to you. The desserts were the best part, both the rose kulfi and the pistachio dessert were I can honestly my top 5 desserts of all time, definitely Michelin level. They were the perfect texture, flavor, had amazing presentation (with dry ice) and they were not too sweet! Must get!! Unfortunately, there were some misses, too. The cocktail I got tasted pretty bad. It looked disappointing to start. The presentation was not there. I don't even remember what I ordered. The menu listed fancy ingredients but I ended up with some orange red concoction that honestly tasted like it coulda been orange and cranberry juice. My bf's mom got the salted lassi and it was disgustingly salty like seawater and the yogurt tasted like it was made from raw cow milk like it tasted kind of barnyard. The mango one I got was really good. They used real mango! Lastly, their chicken biryani is AWFUL. Seriously one of the worst biryani's I've ever had. Please do not get it. It was mushy and clumped together like risotto, not fluffy, no long grains of rice. The menu warned of bones which I'm fine with but it was like 2/3 small bones and the meat fell off the bones but into the pot and did not make it into our bowl. The best fine dine indian food restaurant in the bay area! We had an amazing experience right from getting a nice booth, to amazing hospitality, to delicious food. Lots of innovative, new and refreshing takes on core indian food! The taste of every dish was authentic, (distinctly indian) and somehow sophisticated. The dishes we ordered were Vada Bao. (not pav), pani-puri, Baked Paneer "Parche", kaali daal. All were a 10/10. The only thing that beat all this was the mind-blowing dessert - the rose kulfi "experience", that dish/dessert/experience was a 11/10. You have to check it out yourself; Needs reservations ! Dont walk in, this is hot & busy restaurant; I am a food critic, and never freely handout accolades, but this is a bay area gem! Popped in on a Sat night without a reservation and were seated at a table in the bar. Very nice marble bar by the way. Decor was clean and bright. Ibwas happy to see a full dining room as this restaurant is in a stand alone location near Santa Clara University. The avocado tikki was nicely cooked breaded lightly, accompanied by a cilantro+mint chutney which gave the food a nice bright pop of flavor. Next came the goat chops, very tender and medium spicy. A nice portion for an appetizer and good price at $20. Presented very nicely doused with whiskey and set on fire. Very tender too. The mutton tacos were my favorite, they had a nice smoky flavor and the accompanying pear chutney was a nice touch with some sweetness to it. I wasn't sure if I was going love the thelpa tortillas (tortillas spiced with fenugreek, tumeric, cumin, coriander bit it went really well with the meat. Finally, the vada bao buns were huge, light and fluffy. It took a minute to get to the poato filling and I would gave preferred a little more filling to get the full flavor. The yogurt chutney that came with it was really delicious and different. It also came with a sweet tamarind chutney and green chutney. Everything we ordered was on the small plate menu and we were full after 4 plates. The prices were reasonable and I appreciated the large variety of small plates so we could try a few different items. All in all, this is a good addition to the south bay elevated Indian cuisine scene. read more
