What a surprise. With this restaurant being next to a subway and a laundry mat this may leave one suspicious. However, it's a definite must. I must say that a $6.50 lunch combo had me nervous. Walking in I was happily greeted by the waitress who was extremely friendly and sat us quickly. My mom and I ordered the lunch convos with egg drop soup. She had the beef lo mein and I had the teriyaki chicken. The dishes came promptly and we're both very good! I'd definitely recommend this place for lunch and will come back to try their dinner very soon. read more

Looking for some Chinese at a low price and found this place next to our hotel. I ordered Chicken chop suey and vegetable lo mein. Mei Mei has the best Orange Chicken I've tasted in Tucson! Other than that, the service is excellent. The people who work there are always extremely friendly. The only negative I can think of is that the place probably needs to be remodeled a bit, as it looks a little worn out inside and out. But don't let this deter you from trying it! I will first say that I am typically not a huge fan of Chinese food, because I have eaten some really BAD Chinese food, and some super expensive Chinese food (Pei Wei, PF Chang). A friend introduced me to Mei Mei's last month, and I have been back FIVE times in two months!!! The family who runs this place is so kind and sweet and accommodating. Service is speedy--you can be in and out on a half-hour break, if needed, or, you can linger, as I have, for over two hours, and they refill the teapot, the rice bowl, and the ice water. The menu is quite large, with something for everyone. The eggrolls are medium sized-two to an order, with crisp wrapper, not greasy or gloppy, and fresh, crunchy veg and tender morsels of meat inside. Moo shu chicken was to die for. SO flavorful, with lovely chunks of white breast chicken meat, ribbons of wood ear mushrooms, bean sprouts, cabbage in an incredible sauce. I didn't even need to hoisin/duck sauce. Plenty of pancakes with the order. The Hot and Sour soup is super! Nice strips of soft tofu, plentiful veg, very flavorful with a bit of kick, you can see some red pepper flakes that make a nice heat. I took the leftovers home for next day! Chicken broccoli lo mein super flavorful with nice amount of noodles and crisp broccoli, enough for two of us. Highly recommend, take out is quick, and in-house is a really nice experience. I will never go anywhere else in town for Chinese food now, and I hope to branch out and try new dishes each time, as I am thoroughly convinced that everything on the menu is good! read more

This place has very good food and good service. If you go you must order the General tsos chicken, and order it extra spicy. Order chicken friend rice with it too. That is hands down their best dish and it can feed 3 people. Do not expect a trendy atmosphere and stay away from the buffet, you should always steer clear of any buffet. American, Chinese, Swedish, I really don't care, this is the kind of taste that I'm looking for in Chinese food. I have not been to China nor have I lived among the Chinese, so for what I know it could be totally American. Nevertheless, today this was good food. The kung pow chicken was not swimming in the brown sauce, the orange chicken was not battered beyond recognition. The lunch special gave the option of rice, fried rice or lo mien. The service was fast, the food came out fast. It was pleasant. I may never adjust to a restaurant being in a strip mall next to a nail place, but that's for me to work out. The decor was not something from an Elizabeth Taylor movie, but I've seen worse. The floor and the tables were clean, everything that I saw was clean--didn't visit the bathrooms. We will return. You can bet your sweet bippy that I will be reporting back if there is a difference. Oh, and the egg rolls are more like lumpia, because of the wrappers, I like that. read more

This is my go to Chinese food in Tucson. The lunch special is wonderful! You get a very big serving for a good price. The food is delicious! They remodeled the restaurant a while back, and the atmosphere is very nice inside. The wait staff is great! Go a few times, and they will remember exactly what you order (even the small add-ons). I used to live around the corner from this place, but after looking inside I have to say I didn't give it a chance. I've tried many chinese restuarants in town. Well one night I had a late night craving and Mei Mei's was the only Chinese restaurant open that delivered. I was so glad that I did! The food is in generous portions and is tasty and most of all...CHEAP! This is one of the cheapest restaurants you'll find in Tucson! Since then, my fiance and I have been eating there about once a week! I'd recommend trying out the lunch specials, 11am-3pm. Where you can get a whole meal, egg drop soup, an entree, and egg roll for $4.99! Incredible. I've spent much more at McDonald's! They beat most fast food restaurants in price, if you can get there for lunch. My favorite dish from the lunch menu is the shrimp and broccoli. The flavors will take you places, it's light, healthy and includes a generous portion of shrimp! The food comes out fast....and I mean fast! And is never busy, so no waits and a friendly waiter are guaranteed! The only waitress there is a nice lady that always has a smile and doesn't speak much english, but she serves us and keeps our drinks refilled. The Americanized Chinese food here is on par with most chinese restaurants, but ask the owners to make something authentic or something they eat themselves and its amazing to say the least. Their bbq pork is moist and delicious. If you are lucky enough to try their roast pig you would think you were in hong kong! Even my trips to hong kong I don't think I've had better roast pig. The decor is straight out of china town, but the over the top friendly staff makes you forget the decor. read more

Weather it's just for lunch or dinner Mei Mei is one of those hidden gems in Tucson the staff is friendly and it got a very nice makeover that makes it modern but the food is still very authentic. I've been coming here since I was a kid and everything on the menu is delicious. read more

My Saturday evening 7PM order was for pick up in 10 minutes. Amazingly fast considering sometimes at 3PM on a weekday afternoon the drive up window a Wendy's has a 25+ minute wait for a burger. Prices reasonable at $35 and the order was ready when I arrived. Receipt does not have order details, just CC billing info so cannot check back on order received compare to order made. Little language problem at front desk to confirm correct order at pick up. I ordered 2 large Hot and Sour Soups, 1 order of Crab Rangoon, 2 orders of Veggie Spring Rolls, and 1 order of Moo Shu Pork. Soup was balanced and very tasty overall, but had a slight taste of fish. The recipe from Food Network doesn't call for fish paste or whatever gave it that slight fishy taste. I sampled both containers which tasted the same. I ordered the Crab Rangoon from the web site with some of an appetizer menu listed there, but the new paper menu I picked up has no listing for Crab Rangoon, just Crab Puffs. So far as I could tell by taste, texture, and visual, there was no Crab in the Crab Rangoon, just cream cheese and I only ordered 1 order, but 2 orders were in the bag and I assume billed. Wrapping and frying was excellent. Spring Rolls were very good with a thin wrapping and perfect frying, but I didn't like the taste of the Hot Mustard (seemed cheap, not very hot and unusual dark color different than same from supermarket), however it was provided without my having to request it (I always forget.) Much prefer Hot Mustard from Panda Express or store. Just the right amount of Sweet Sauce was provided for the entire dinner. There was 1 sauce for the Moo Shu Pork and 2 would have been better. Also, the Moo Shu Pork was a bit salty for my taste. read more

This place is EXACTLY what you want when you're craving Chinese food. They have a $6.59 lunch special that includes egg flower soup, a main dish from an extensive list, and either white rice, fried rice, or low mein. The portions are huge - you'll definitely be taking home leftovers. AND ALL FOR $6.59! The vegetable chop suey and low mein are phenomenal. The orange chicken is also really good - the coating isn't as thick as other places which is great because it doesn't make you feel like a fat toad after eating it. Also, their food is MSG-free which is a huge plus. Service is incredibly quick and they're super sweet. This is now my boyfriend and I's new Chinese food spot in Tucson! read more

Even if you do not get their lunch specials, the prices on their regular menu items are reasonable.They make amazing dishes and they are prepared and brought to your table quickly. I live very close to Mei Mei's and it is by far one of my fave Chinese food joints here on the West side. I've eaten a number of items on their menu and the General Tsao's is by far and away my favorite. The spicy sauce is full of layered flavor. I love how the chicken is nice and thinly sliced and lightly crunchy, unlike other restaurants that use those thick bite sized battered chicken bites. Their mongolian beef is also amazing, if a little onion heavy in my opinion. The staff are always extremely friendly and, since I'm a regular, they always greet me with big hugs and smiles and ask how I've been. I will never stop going here unless they close (which would be a crime in my opinion). read more

Let it be known that I have only eaten here once, and it was Shrimp Fried Rice to go. First off, the Shrimp Fried Rice tasted like any other Chinese takeout restaurant; it was good but not amazingly good. What concerned me was the price. $9.72 for a box of take out Shrimp Fried Rice. Back in Phoenix (where prices are said to be higher), you can get a box of Shrimp Fried Rice for less than $7.00...I was really surprised to say the least...won't be going back but again the food I ordered was 7/10. read more

I tried Mei Mei today after hearing good things about their lunch special here. So, maybe would be 4 1/2 but I am gonna say 5 for Tucson. My fault I was ordering for two people to go. So many choices, new place, no brown rice option.The steamed white rice that came with the shrimp lo mein was not great, for that person, my bad call, and only 3 shrimp. A lot of food, and what do you expect for a shrimp lunch at that price? The egg rolls were crisp and light. Almost so good I didn't miss a sweet and sour dipping sauce. Duck sauce? Maybe available if you ask for it. i asked and they did give me nice chopsticks. The other order was beef and broccoli with lo mein, and also 2 egg rolls. The person who got the shrimp wanted it. It was piping hot even after I transported it in a car for 10 minutes, delicious, large chunks of tender beef, large perfectly cooked broccoli flourettes and the egg rolls were delicious and not heavy. Even someone who normally does not like egg rolls, ate one and liked it. The Lo Mein was a nice thick noodle, not spaghetti. Could have more cabbage and bean sprouts, but tasty. Delicious sauce with the beef and broccollli. I'm a big guy and it filled me up. Got a menu, will be calling in for pickup in the future. So happy I found a place near downtown this good!
