Don't let the 3 star rating fool you. This is a solid place.The pizza tuna app was amazing. The price was very good. We ordered 1 app 3 rolls and 1 dessert for under $40. The reasons I can't give it any higher are: the ambiance isn't anything special, the rolls were good but nothing you won't find at most places, and service was very average. We have ordered from here for years, practically at least once a week. Recently we have found that their phone system has been malfunctioning. In addition, The last time we ordered the shrimp sushi which was delivered was old, smelly, and clearly spoiled. When we called to complain they seemed unconcerned, and had the gall to say they would give us a replacement on our next order! The food is just ok and if all you require is a serviceable sushi experience featuring previously frozen pale watery fish thats a step above supermarket quality then BINGO! So gobble up them sea hot dogs (uramaki) and hand rolls. One and done, just for the hell of it I tried Mei and can drive another 10 minutes for a much better experience from a few authentic Japanese owned restaurants. Not one of my favorites that's for sure. The place is quaint and quiet so lunch was peaceful. The staff was friendly and nice. However, the food, not good. My soup tasted like there was still soap in the bowl. The salad dressing was bland. The sushi quality is not good at all. It wasn't fishy tasting or anything like that but it had no flavor at all and was cut too large. I couldn't even finish it. Took it home so they wouldn't feel bad. So many better places closer to my house that I probably wouldn't return. read more

Read some of the not so good reviews here, I don't really agree with. The place is cozy and clean, the service isn't too bad, even thought the servers don't know anything about sushi. I ordered the Regular sashimi, it was $17.95, for 17 pieces, soup and salad, not bad. The salmon, yellowtail and striped bass were extremely fresh, almost the freshest I've ever had. The tuna, was good but lacked in flavor. Everyone else ordered some rolls and a chicken teriyaki. One complaint is that the rolls are extremely small for the price. Some items on the menu are a deal and some are not. I wouldn't be opposed to trying this place again. read more

We picked up a sushi order and no one in the establishment was wearing a mask, including the two people making sushi at the sushi bar. In a rush to leave, feeling unsafe, we paid and left. When we got home, we were too uncomfortable and disgusted to eat the food. We called to tell them they should be wearing masks and they were extremely rude to us. They sent someone to pick up the food at our house, and he rang the door bell and started yelling at us, called his manager, who also yelled at us and accused us of trying to take the food and not pay for it. They blatantly lied and claimed that they do wear masks when we saw it with our own eyes. Never have we been so disrespected by restaurant employees. They are unfit for business and it is surprising that they are still open. read more

Always has a lot of coupons in local newspapers and advertisements so be on the lookout. Between this and Green Dragon, this is one of our go to spots to order Sushi. We've been ordering here for years and stop in to eat from time to time. I am a fan of quiet places and even when there dining room is busy, it's never been too loud and the tables have good spacing. The sashimi portions are great if you're into sashimi. Our typical order consists of a kani salad, octopus and salmon sashimi, and sometimes we'll do one of the special rolls. Small sushi that's good for takeout or a relaxed meal. The place is rather dimly lit, and does have a bit of a musty smell to it. Not terrible, but it's there. Decent prices, and good service, but not the greatest rolls. The rice was very mediocre, and my ell roll was kind of falling apart. The phone rang while I waited for my order to be filled and they still didn't pick up. I had to wait for my food instead of paying and leaving. Welp, ventured out recently to have some sushi with a friend. Mei Sushi was close by so we gave it a shot. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. The place isn't huge, probably a dozen tables. We split some rolls and sashimi. We felt all was very fresh and good. Prices were acceptable. Overall the place didn't blow me away as the greatest ever but certainly was good and I will go back for lunch/dinner or for take out. I saw a few people come in for take out. I used to work here as a waitress & after seeing what they did here, made me grossed out & not want to eat at any Chinese restaurants! Let me start by saying, they reused lemon slices from customers cups that have left for new customers!! I've seen them drop food on the floor & pick it back up to serve. I was always offered food while I was working, but ALWAYS denied!! That's how gross it is in the kitchen, not hygienic at all. But what drove me to leave this place, was that I was never allowed to take the tips for the tables I WORKED for, while they just sat in the back on their laptop. She would race me to tables to take the tip before me & pocket it, or if she didn't make it before me she would watch to make sure I didn't take it. Don't go here!! Having promised to go to sushi with my family, I searched online for a nice authentic sushi restaurant. Two things hindered my search: Yelp reviews are scarce in Bergen County and there seems to be a dearth of authentic Japanese restaurants (plenty of Italian though, this being Jersey and all). After some digging, I found some good reviews of a sushi place in my town, literally minutes from my house. Most of the reviews were based on lunch experiences, but I decided to give it a whirl based on proximity. Upon entering Mei Sushi, my Asian-astute parents instantly recognized that all the employees were in fact Chinese, not Japanese. I'm not saying it's impossible for Chinese people to make mouth watering sushi, but let's face it, the odds aren't that high. We ordered edamame and seared tofu for appetizers, and two of the hot meals came with soup and salad. All these were slightly off. The dressing on the salad was too creamy and too plentiful. The tofu was a little bland. The edamame seemed to be fresh out of the freezer. The sushi, on the other hand, wasn't bad for Chinese-made! Their rolls were interesting and the salmon tasted relatively fresh. I'm not sure I would recommend Mei Sushi for dinner, but I can see it being a nice lunch restaurant. One thing that was supremely annoying was that the temperature in the restaurant seemed to be on "frigid" for a windy late-November night. All in all, not too shabby for Fair Lawn. read more

I work in Fair Lawn and this is my favorite place to grab take-out lunch. Not only is this the best value for your money but the food is pretty good. The bento box lunch specials consist of miso soup and salad (always appreciate a Japanese restaurant that doesn't make you choose between the two), a 3-piece California roll, rice and an entree of your choosing. The miso soup is below average, but with the amount of food you get in the meal, this is excusable. The sushi is not the best in the area, but I'd put it in the top 50 percentile. The quality varies. The eggplant appetizer is REALLY good, every time, but the sushi can be eh. Sometimes the rice tastes fresh and then the sushi is delicious. Other times, it tastes kinda old and stale, which ruins the experience. Still, for delivery, they're probably nearly 4 stars. For dine in, though, they definitely go down to 3 (with a 1 for service, but I don't weight service as heavily as food, which is their saving grace for this review). The service is slow and the waitresses always seem like they hate their jobs (and aren't great at them). One time, when they had the radio and TV both blaring loudly, and we were one of two occupied tables, we asked if they could turn one of them off or at least down. The waitress responded that the other customers might like both on, so we can't ask her to do that. Whatever, that's fine, but it did crack us up that instead of responding to a customer request or asking the only other present customer if they'd mind her doing what we asked, she rudely told us that essentially, we matter less than a hypothetical customer she was trying to accommodate. It's also a bit of a struggle to get their attention for a tea or water refill or anything like that. I'd give them 3.5 stars, if that were an option, but the multiple awkward, slow, or rude experiences of dining in make me want to round down. read more

This place is amazing for both take out and dine in. It is BYOB. It may not be the fanciest place, but service is friendly and sushi is always fresh and amazing. Their prices are very reasonable.
