Shaken Chicken was his recommendation to my friend, I ordered garlic eggplant- if you have been to PF Changs they used to have minced chicken and eggplant and took it off the menu- bad. They had a dish like it with ground pork it was amazing. The "smashed" cucumber salad/cold appetizer was fantastic. Great selection of beer, wine and sake. Their alcohol prices are very reasonable. SERVICE IS TRASH. I used to love coming to this restaurant. Nearly ate here every other week with family and friends. However had the most HORRIBLE experience for my friends bday dinner. TLDR: This place is a shit show during weekends, large parties, or for special occasions. Also the manager there is an ass.. and they charge 10$ if you bring a cake. ***** To the "manager" that worked on May 7, 2022. Please re-evaluate how you speak to your customers. I understand that mistakes can be made, but the way you conducted our conversation was incredibly disappointing. I advise you to work on conflict resolution skills. Your staff made 2 promises to me (30 min wait that ended up 2 hours, and ability to wait at Toukei with the understanding I will be notified when my table is ready). However those promises were broken, when I returned to Mein but had my table given away after waiting 2 hours. Naturally, i tried to explain the situation to the person up front. But rather than apologizing, "manager" comes over and says "we can't do anything. Go outside and wait if you want to eat here. Not our fault if you weren't here when we called you. It's not our policy to get you if you're not outside"..... But your staff up front said it's OK and wrote a note for everyone to know.... Then after going back and forth with the "manager", asking for at least an APOLOGY for the mistake, he says "hmph don't wanna serve you anymore bc you're rude". The hypocrisy of that statement made me laugh to where i just left the convo to my boyfriend bc i was done with this foolishness. Then funny enough, he privately says sorry to my boyfriend and sits us down 10 mins later. Again, please assign someone else be the manager on busy nights, he is not qualified enough if he is unable to take accountability for his mistakes and handle simple conflicts. read more

SO GREAT!! Got seated super quick for a party of 4, approximately 5 min on a friday night at 8:30PM. They put a bottle of hand sanitizer on the table and are far apart from others to socially distant. This is a step up from your typical chinese take out, but with the same speed and portions. Affordable dishes ~$10. We ordered the firecracker chicken (5/5), red oil dumplings (4/5), beef scallion (4/5), not pictured is the drunken noodles (5/5- LOTS of shrimp given), and the XLB/soup dumplings (4/5). What an amazing, clean Cantonese restaurant! The inside is very modern and clean. You are provided with your table's own hand sanitizer upon being seated. We ordered a number of dishes to share among seven of us and were full. The food came to our table quickly and was hot and fresh. My favorite dish was the walnut prawns! The prawns were massive in size and perfectly fried and coated with sauce. We brought in dessert to enjoy after lunch and was told we weren't allowed to bring outside food in, so we decided to get the lava toast which was amazing! The prices are reasonable and with so much to offer, I highly doubt not being able to find a dish to love. read more

I love this place! From decor to food. Pretty good service most of the time. I tried all of their apps and kept coming back for the egg tofu, char siu and smashed cucumber. Most of their wok-stir fried dishes are super tasty with that wok smokiness. I also enjoy their wonton noodle soup as it rivals my other favorite wonton noodle place in town. Mein! What an experience! Service was exceptionally good and fast. Staff was very patient and attentive. Pretty busy for a weds night but now I know why. The food was amazing. Ordered the Sichuan garlic pork as an appetizer, firecracker chicken, green beans, and salt n pepper ribs (not pictured). Took less than 30min. for it all to come out. The only issue they have is parking. There isn't alot so be prepared to wait or park across the street. Other than that, i have no complaints. Ambiance is very classy and great for a family style experience. Dishes are big and they have alot of choices on their menu. Come hungry. Would come back here at least once a month. read more

One of the must try places if you frequent Bellaire often. Especially during this pandemic. All staff wear masks and gloves, tables are at least 6ft apart, and every tables get a bottle of hand sanitizer. Food comes out quick and service is prompt. The interior is very clean but it is a little dark for me. For appetizers we ordered the Shrimp Rolls and Herb Salmon and the entrees crispy seafood noodles and the spicy pork noodles dry. Shrimp rolls were fresh and crispy. The herb salmon salad was very refreshing and well seasoned. The crispy seafood noodles could use a little more seafood. The spicy dry pot noodles were probably the least flavorful. The side broth was just at room temperature and too salty for me. Overall would come back to try there infamous lava toast, which we did not order today. read more

Two things stood out the most about this restaurant are 1) very attentive service: they check in on you throughout the whole dining experience, making sure you have everything you need and refilling our water whenever needed 2) very pleasant dining environment: modern design and decor, very clean. We ordered the spicy pork dry noodle: the noodles are thin, wavy and chewy, very different from Mainland Chinese noodle dishes. Worth to give it a try! We also enjoyed the concept of dry noodles, you can eat them dry, put the broth in the noodles, or dip the noodles in the broth. I guess one noodle dish eaten in 3 ways. Why you gotta be so Mein? You really can't go wrong here. The food is great and the service is excellent. We ordered several different dishes because we came in a large group. The most memorable dishes were the squid ink fried rice, eggplant, salt and pepper squid (my favorite!), fried fish, and the bread dessert. Everyone really enjoyed the food with no complaints. If you ever want to introduce a friend or family member to Asian cuisine, this is the place. The service was very friendly. Although it was a very busy night, the waiters still made small talk with us and didn't hesitate to take a group photo of us when we asked. The food came out relatively quick and we were attended to throughout the night. The only downside of coming here is the crowd on a busy night. When it gets busy, parking spots are hard to come by and wait time can be a bit long. They share the parking lot with other restaurants so it may feel congested at times and you may have to wait for a spot. If you drive a large truck, spaces may feel even more cramped. This such a long overdue review. This is my go to place for comfort, family Cantonese food. I usually order: - Charsiu (5/5): The meat is juicy and perfectly cook. It comes with some Choy Sum green veggies and mustard dipping sauce. - Sansai Egg Tofu (5/5): This comes with 5 round thick pieces of tofu with a delicious sauce with mushroom. All of these pair so well with rice. I have tried some of their other dishes, and it has not disappoint. The food is on always on point every time I go. I love how there is a large variety of appetizers, pork, beef, chicken, duck, seafood, noodles soups, rice, vegetable dishes. So many dishes, so many to choose from! The service is wonderful. Disappointed I love house special dry and has been customer for years. The past few times I ordered Togo and because of Togo it's not as great as eating fresh. I had a chance to eat at restaurants last week not only price increase, the quality drop big time the flavor I used to like were not there. It just plain noodle flavor. The decor here has a really modern design, and the ambiance is really nice. It is a great place to take people who are new to Chinese food. However, the wait can be pretty long especially on weekends. The food here is pretty outstanding. I would highly recommend the red oil dumplings. The exterior is very crispy while the meat in the inside is very tender and delicious. My favorite dish would have to be the pan fried squid. The squid here is by far the best in Chinatown. Overall, my experience here was really good. I was very impressed by the food and decor. The only downside was the slow service. I can't wait to try the new options in the future! read more

Maybe this place appeals to the younger generation of cool kids but it failed to impress my group of seven people. The interior is darker than most other places in Chinatown and gives off a modern yet retro chic vibe. The first thing we noticed were the rampant amount of mosquitos inside and luckily (or not so luckily), only one of us got bit by the end of our meal. Really should consider spraying services as it is something restaurants do as part of preventive measures. Service was standard and we got a refill on our water, but that's all I can say was good. All of the food we shared tasted extremely bland or off. For those who had the HK WONTON NOODLE SOUP - it was not only a small portion for $7.50 but the noodles were too chewy, broth was flavorless, and shrimp wontons without the crisp bite of fresh shrimp. The lack of seasoning, specifically plaice powder, is essential to making a great wonton broth. The SINGAPORE RICE NOODLES - color unappealing and minimal curry flavor, no shrimps and costs $9.50, more soy sauce flavor than anything. The roast pork bits were very tough. The SALTED FISH AND CHICKEN FRIED RICE - where's the salty fish and flavor? It was bland just like everything else and the chicken was like paper. The portion also is small for the price of $9.50. It was apparent to us that the meal was not worth it both taste wise and cost wise. Everything tasted so good! The wonton soup especially really satisfied my hunger, and with rice, it's so perfect on a chill day. This place is a hidden gem. It's not right on the main strip of Bellaire and I would've never found out about this place if it weren't for my friend. Place is nice inside and outside - very clean, nicely decorated, and plenty of space inside unlike many of the restaurants in Chinatown. Food and customer service was amazing!
