I lived a very close walk to this center, and I trudged out in the heavy rain with my biggest umbrella & rain slicker to meet up with my date. Service was prompt and cordial. Wow, this was one of the best Chinese I've had! As for the date, it was great. She was from one of the dating websites. We went on a 2nd date the very next day, but she ghosted me. Then, I came across her again online about 9 months later, and we went out on another date in May 2019. I asked her what happened, and she explained whatever excuse with personal stuff going on or whatever. All 3 of the dates were good, but she had her issues. In summary, in spite of my kind of weird date & such a rainy day going here, I'll need to take my girlfriend here to enjoy the outstanding food if we're ever in Wheaton hopefully under sunnier skies.

It appears most, if not all their staffers, speak Chinese (Mandarin), which was also helpful, because I specifically ordered in Chinese. I asked them about the spice level, because I wanted to ensure it would not be too spicy for my friend. - Price. Pretty good value for menu and portions. - Location. It's pretty easy to find. Also within convenient walking distance to the Silver Spring metro. The inside space is pretty good. Tables can seat a minimum of 2, all the way up to 8. What's Not - Quality. The sesame balls are smaller than I expected. They're the rough approximation of a ping pong ball, maybe smaller. I was disappointed, because I like sesame balls that are substantial. - Service. I specifically asked for soup spoons, because we were eating dumplings. Instead, they gave me regular spoons. Not all the dishes come out in the order you hope. For example, main dishes may come out before the appetizers. This is going to be dependent on your personal preference. - Parking. There is parking near the restaurant, but it's going to be dependent on the day and time. Final Answer Worth coming back.

Meiwah - Great Food, Greater Stories! Let me set the scene: I was headed to Meiwah for a meeting -- thinking it would be a typical dinner with some good food. Little did I know, I was in for so much more. The restaurant was buzzing, with the smell of sizzling spices in the air, and I started with a variety of dishes -- the kung pao chicken, Peking duck, and octopus, to name a few. Each dish was bursting with flavor; the kung pao chicken had that perfect mix of heat and crunch, the Peking duck was crispy on the outside and tender inside, and the octopus? Succulent and cooked to perfection. You could tell every dish was made with love and attention to detail. But what made this visit truly memorable was meeting the owner, Larry La. He stopped by our table, and we got to chatting. He's the kind of guy who makes you feel like you've known him forever, with stories that captivate you from the get-go. He told me about his journey from war-torn Vietnam, growing up in East Tennessee, and eventually taking a leap of faith to open a restaurant right in the heart of DC. Larry's story is so inspiring that he's written an autobiography called *"Square Moon: One Man's Journey from War-Torn Vietnam to DC's Hottest Kitchens"* -- a book I cannot wait to read. I placed a delivery order online for a 6pm delivery time and the food showed up on my front porch at 4:50, over an hour early. Hot, fresh food does not stay hot or fresh when eaten over an hour later, which was when we actually wanted it. By the time my family got home, we had to try to reheat the food without a microwave (we don't own one) and it turned out dry, cold, and mostly tasteless. I called the restaurant and they apologized but did not offer any solutions blaming it on their "new system". We used to order all the time from here but over the last year everything about Meiwah has gone way downhill and the service even worse. read more

I can honestly say that this is one of DC hidden treasures. It is very comfortable and modest place that serves high quality food using very fresh ingredients. The selection in their menu is very extensive ranging from veg. to meat eaters and several seafood options. When we walked in, the receptionist / greeter had no uniform or ID badge so a bit confusing and no reception desk. Not the most welcoming hospitality. 2. Wait staff sort of dissappeared mid service or was just unattentive, they were right around the corner at the wait station. I dropped a chopstick on the floor and needed a repacement. I could not get eye contact so I had to get up and request a replacement after a few minutes. The two of us order the TOKU JO SASHIMI - (38) Chef's Choice ~ White or Multigrain Rice - $110. 3. The shashim was served an a single platter which was a bit crowded and lacked the artistry or elegance a $110 platter of shashimi shoud be presented. Many of the pieces were cut too large and chunky. I appreciate the generosity of the protions but they could / should have been sliced in half. Most of the fish tasted OK but lacked the brightness you expect from fresh cut shashimi. Maybe these platters are pre-prepared and storred in the cooler until needed. The rice served in bowls with the platter was extreemly bland to me. No flavor at all and a bit over cooked. 4. We ordeed the corn meal coated calamari as appetizer. This was adequate but lacked seasoniong and included a some what bland ambigious dipping sauce. Maybe garlic aioli. This was compped in compensation for the off uni in the sushi platter. Probabaly not going back regardless as I am not local.

You can choose from 3 type of noodles and different soup - curry or simple broth. It's probably better choice here than their sushi for my preference. If we just want Sushi in near Bethesda area, Sushiko in Chavy Chase is good. When we crave for Authentic sushi we just go to authentic Japanese restaurants ( some Michelin stars "Sushi Taro" in DC ) that is truly authentic quality. There was nothing special about the food, but what really killed any enjoyment of it was the terrible acoustics. We could not hear each other over the din. There's not much attempt made at ambience, either. In short, there is not much of a draw. I'm sure it's fine for a quick and cheap lunch if you are in the area. But this is not a dinner spot I could recommend.
