Came in one rainy morning and order the kao piek. It was delicious and great for the weather. I also ordered papaya salad Laos. (Passable) Lao sausage, and finally the pad kee mao. I came here on a Thursday and during happy hour! They have happy hour from 5-7pm from Monday to Fridays which was 20% for certain foods and drinks and some drink were BOGO. Dropped in last Thursday after my kid's piano class. Heard this was the sister spot to Vientian in Oakland--our go-to back in the day but too far now. The angel wings hit just like we remembered--crispy, juicy, packed with flavor. Big win that they've got a kids menu--my daughter crushed the mini meatball pho. We grabbed the tofu appetizer (20% off for happy hour--nice surprise) and split the khao soy--straight fire, that perfect funky depth we missed. Only one server running the whole show, but they handled it like a pro. As we left, we noticed the Cambodian skewers--definitely coming back for those. If you're after authentic Lao and Southeast Asian flavors, skip the overhyped west side spots--Mekong Kitchen is the real deal. Deserves more love! read more

This particular spot has changed names a few times. I was told that the current restaurant there now was really good so I had to give it a try. First off they were severely understaffed so although we got seated promptly, I had to call someone over to take our order, and I noticed others who had come in after us were still standing at the door waiting to be seated. It took quite a while for us to receive our food, and they got the order wrong. That being said, when we finally received our food, it was underwhelming. It was probably the worst green papaya salad I've had. It was very oddly served with a side of bland noodles. My husband had the fried calamari and the fresh spring rolls which were acceptable but again underwhelming. The calamari wasn't cut into bite-size pieces which made it difficult to eat. My daughter had a noodle dish which she thought was pretty good. The star of the show was their Salt andPpepper fried fish. I would go back specifically for that dish, which was really good. I noticed one poor soul running to and fro and from the kitchen desperately trying to service everyone so I can imagine that once they're staffed properly, their service would greatly improve. Omg! Granted it was about 45 minutes to closing so I suspected we may have to get anything we wanted to go. Walked in, the place was about 3/4 full. The remaining tables were not clean and there was no one trying to clean them. We stood there for about 4-5 minutes, were not acknowledged and when a new couple came in they sat at the table and then someone came over to take the dirty dishes away. The vibe was "a bad experience" about to happen. According to my companion, he has never seen me move so fast! Baaaby! Hell to the naw. Amazing food and service with a pleasant interior! Great spot for a casual bite or lunch date. We had a last minute family party and Mekong Kitchen graciously took care of the catering on a late notice. Michael worked with us patiently and made great recommendations based on our requests. We ordered a variety of items - Pad See Ew with beef, Garlic Noodles with shrimp, Fried Rice, Grilled Chicken, and Grilled Ribs. Everything was tasty and good quality! I was particularly impressed by the grilled chicken, which was juicy and flavorful. However, I think the grilled ribs could have more flavor. The two meat entrees also came with a salad; we loved the dressing. Some other dishes I've enjoyed: Nam Kao - crispy and vibrant flavor. Highly recommend!!! Calamari - made perfectly tender and not over-battered. Don't hesitate on ordering an appetizer, these were super worth the cost. This place is great! They have a lot of interesting Southeast Asian dishes, some of which I've never seen before. Highly recommend all of the noodle soups and hot pots. Service is attentive and the space is large, and there's ample parking in the back. We didn't get a chance to try the drinks but would like to next time. Came here for dinner with my husband and was very impressed! We loved the ambiance, very relaxing and inviting with the greenery and strung lights. We tried quite a lot of items. First off, their angel wings!! So good. We loved the sticky sauce. We also got their nam kao. It was a generous portion. I wish this had a bit more flavor with the nam needing to be more sour. We took the leftovers home and added a bit of fish sauce and lime, perfect solution. We also got their laos sausage. It was fragrant with lime leaves and lemon grass but a tad dry. I'd skip this one next time. Their Pork boat noodles had a rich broth with tender cuts of meat and offal cuts. This was really good. The Laos papaya salad was a standout. It was very flavorful and bold, like it should be! Their seafood pad thai was subtly sweet and balanced in flavor, a solid choice. Their January specials menu had some Cambodian dishes on there like Tuk Prahok and grilled coconut corn so we ordered those. The steak was perfectly cooked to a medium rare. The tuk prahok was really good. Almost as good as how my in laws make it. I love how most of the items we ordered came with a salad or a stack of fresh veggies. We ended the meal with their grilled coconut corn. Since corn isn't in season, it's understandable they used frozen corn. I would skip this item for now. The coconut sauce was good and i could imagine it tasting great with fresh young corn. In terms of quality and flavor, it's very comparable to Vientian, their sister restaurant. I appreciated their hospitality. Service was friendly and quick. We will definitely come back soon! read more

This is the spot to be at if you're looking for some really good authentic Thai and Laos food! My favorite dish is the Pad Ke Mao I also love their barbecue ribs, their angel wings, the pork belly stirfry and etc. but most definitely the soup noodles there is so delicious and comforting. can't wait to go back and try more dishes read more

I don't post reviews often but I have to share - Mekong Kitchen is my new spot for Thai/Laotian food. They took over Noodle Lover Club and kept the interior much the same, but the food..the food is just amazing. Everything we ordered was delicious and the prices are super reasonable. Loved the Nam khao, beef skewers, angel wings, eggplant, and chicken noodle soup. There is one server (who they also inherited from NLC) who is super nice/fast, but be aware there is only one (for now) so pls be patient with her:) Anyway, do check this place out! read more

This place is a huge disappointment. You expect Lao food to be zesty and flavorful, but everything here just fell completely flat. Ordered the Lao Sukiyaki and Larb. Both of these dishes just had a unfaceted flavor of saltiness. No complexity, richness, or anything. The broth tasted similar to instant noodle broth, and was a chore to finish. I heard the owner of Vientian in Oakland is connected to this spot, so I was excited--no more driving to Oakland for my Lao/Thai food fix and parking! Sold. But honestly, I was a little disappointed. I agree with some of the other reviews: it's better than the place that was here before, but only by like... a half-step. This is based on what I ordered. I should've taken photos, but I had just gotten off work, and that wasn't on my mind. Lao Khao Soy - Highly recommended. Khao Poun - Same, highly recommended. The only major issue with the noodle soups? They came out lukewarm. Add some chili crisp and peppers, and within a few minutes, they were cold. If I wasn't super hungry, I would've sent them back because noodle soup should not be served like that. I can't even blame the server--he was quick to grab the food as soon as the bell rang and brought it straight to our table. So I'm guessing the kitchen plated it lukewarm. Lao Papaya Salad was a whole other story--and not a good one. I had high hopes because I saw another table's salad, and the papaya looked fresh and crisp. But ours? It came out way after the soups, and I swear it tasted like it was premade... yesterday. It had that pickled lime taste, so I'm guessing they used a packaged sauce and tried to doctor it up with fish sauce and tamarind paste because that's all I could taste. We told the server we didn't like it, and he just said, "That's okay," and brought us the bill. Look, I get it--he was the only one working and trying to keep things moving, but when a customer points out an issue, at least ask what's wrong or try to fix it. That "oh well" energy wasn't it, especially when we're paying for the meal. If this was a donation, cool, I'd roll with it. But nah, we're paying, dude. My cousin took the salad home because he hates wasting food, but I know he's tossing it after work. Which is why I said we basically paid for trash. Bottom line: save yourself the trip and just go to Oakland or somewhere else. I honestly don't think A***l is involved here because she wouldn't let this fly. read more

Had the lunch specials: pork rib was very tough, the pad see ew was salty, and the mala noodle hotpot was also salty. The service was not great. Only had three tables and one server. Had waited a long time to order. When the food came, we weren't even given utensils so we sat looking at our food wondering how we were going to eat. The ambiance wasn't great neither. The large plants in the middle is nice but it doesn't feel like a restaurant, just like someone's messy home. I don't recommend and won't be back. read more

We thought nothing of it and the young guys sits us. We are sitting there for about 30 mins before we're like is anyone going to come take our order ? We flagged the guy down, he took our order and said there is a 30 min wait if he's being honest they're backed up. We said ok we are already here. So we order and wait. The food didn't take long surprisingly. We get the chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice, salt & pepper chicken wings & broccoli stir fly. The chow mein was ok, chicken fried rice horrible, broccoli stir fry was COLD, chicken wings were AWFUL. I will never come back to this place. The wings are like store bought buffalo chicken wings there were double fried but not fried hard like we asked. It was like fake chicken. It was not a good experience we had to ask for water after we finished eating because there was no one around. Ppl complained about others having their orders taken before theirs. People were all looking at each other kind of trying to see if anyone else is experiencing this in real time. Ppl wanted to pay & couldn't because there was no one around. The waiter even went outside at one point leaving everyone inside of the restaurant & ran back in. Ppl saying this is ridiculous, all of this to pay & get Togo containers, families even got up & walked out. In conclusion the food had a STINKY SMELL. We couldn't put our finger on what we smelt but we didn't like it. At that point we didn't want the food. I'm not sure if the plates weren't cleaned thoroughly or where that stinch was coming from but I do not recommend this place. The rare beef larb is amazingly done to perfection! It was so authentic my fam had returned 3 times already just for this!! It goes well with the sticky rice and fresh herbs and lettuce!! You have to ask for rare beef because this is not on the menu!! The menu only makes cooked beef larb. We have to emphasize that we want RARE beef larb!
