    Chicken banh mi
    Dawn B.

I came here years ago and then forgot about it until I happened to pass by on an errand. The owners were pleasant and the price point is great. Here's what I had: Shrimp spring rolls: 4/5 these were good but kind of basic. The shrimp inside was fresh, big, and they put a good amount in them. I wasn't a fan of the sauce. It tasted more like hoisin sauce with a few peanuts. I prefer either more peanut flavor or more fish sauce flavor, but just a personal choice. Grilled chicken banh mi: 5/5 this is mainly why I came and what I remember from my past visit. I think they changed the bread, which was a little bit of a bummer. It used to be this very light bread that was unique, almost like cloud bread. The bread now is your standard french bread, but it is good french bread. The grilled chicken is tasty and plentiful. I'm so grateful that they don't just have shredded chicken like a lot of other viet restaurants. They use a garlic butter that is very fragrant, so if you plan on kissing someone, plan accordingly. Even though I wanted the old version of this sandwich, it's still the best one I've had in quite awhile. I definitely recommend this little hole in the wall place! It's withstood the test of time for a reason.

My bible group enjoyed our wonderful luncheon here! We were very impressed with the cuisine here.

They even offered vegan choice for others to try also. Plus, they are friendly that would be nice if you are a newbie to try Vietnamese cuisine.

I've been coming here for years. If your looking for some serious comfort food- this is the place. It's delicious and the tea is fantastic too. The service is always amazing and the ambiance is comfortable. Every time I travel back home- this is the first place I look forward to eating at.

Quite a hidden gem for this area. Ordered a banh mi thit nuong and it was packed with meat! (was hungry and forgot the camera eats first) Definitely coming back to try other items on the menu. Accepts card payments with $10 minimum.

Back again - Excellent banh mi sandwiches, pho, spring rolls, and your other Vietnamese faves!

The food and service has been good here. The only complaint I have is the turtles in the fish tank need a log to rest upon or something to stand on. Seems cruel to see them constantly treading water. It hurts my heart to see them when I come in to dine.

Food is great! One of my favorite places to get a tofu banh mi. Service is good and food comes out fresh. Has a bunch of tables but only a few are taken at a time. Looks clean and casual setting.

It is my favorite lunch spot for Vietnamese coffee, spring rolls, and pork sandwiches.

Meet with a friend, and was not disappointed at all. Food was good. The place was a bit older. Overall I did enjoy this restaurant.

The banh mi was okay. The bread was too soft and got soggy and the pork was too sweet for my taste.

Wow! Just... wow…read more Loved this place from the moment I walked in! Ambiance was super fun and welcoming. The tubs of ice filled with cold drinks all around as you approach the counter was casual and fun. And the staff was welcoming and friendly. The menu had so much variety, without being overwhelming. Anything from a good pazole, to a brisket Rueben, to an American Italian sandwich! I got the báhn mì sandwich, which was bursting with flavor! The pork was seasoned well and had good flavor from the marinade. The cilantro, pickled onions, jalapeno, all were so fresh and vibrant! And I was able to get homemade chips and fresh strawberries as my side - such a refreshing bite the strawberries after a rich, porky, spicy bite from the sandwich. Can't say enough good! Loved this place and would go back in a heartbeat!

A big part of the decades long success at Local Foods has been their commitment to consistency…read more Their casual setting with excellent service is one thing, but quality executed food that is simple and seasonal will always go a long way. Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. I've always enjoyed my experiences here and look forward to every visit.
