I'm writing this review to inform the public about my experience with **Meks Parkside Auto** on Canoga Avenue in Canoga Park. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. I found the owner to be misleading and difficult to trust. Throughout the process, I was given multiple changing explanations about what was wrong with my vehicle and what repairs were needed. This back-and-forth made the situation frustrating and left me feeling uncertain about the accuracy of the diagnosis. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this shop if you're looking for clear communication and reliable service. I encourage others to ask detailed questions, get second opinions, and do their research before moving forward. I've been a customer here for many years (plus other family members and friends). Maurice is the best and most experienced mechanic I've ever met. His knowledge base on cars is astonishing. Furthermore, he will - when he needs to - double-check himself by doing a little research to make sure he's doing the right thing. And not just be lazy and wing it. Maurice is all pro. A perfectionist. And a very hard worker. But he's also easy to work with. It's expensive to keep a 20-plus year old car running, like I do. But Maurice will work with us. Not everything will need fixing. Optional luxury items that malfunction can sometimes be ignored, if we want to save money. But Maurice is crystal clear if something is broken and must be fixed for safety reasons. I trust him. He has our best interests at heart and is a good man. Maurice, the MEK Parkside Auto owner is amazing. He is an extremely kind man, and he gives the best value in the valley. There was an issue with my water pump and I bought my own part and Maurice happily put it in, other mechanic shops that I asked for with the exact same query, just for the labor, all gave me estimates nearing a thousand dollars, meanwhile Maurice's was near half of that. He also does oil changes, which are also very inexpensive as well. He is very fast too, and anything you'll need will not take too long to get done. Maurice will take care of your vehicle, and is very honest about everything he does and will show you everything about your car if it's having other issues. Bottom line, Maurice is cheaper, and more friendlier than anyone in Pep boys or Valvaline, or other random mechanic shops, I have no 100% doubt you will love his service. read more

I have known Maurice for over 30 years, I think? He has worked on several of my cars over the years. My 16-year-old Toyota Corolla is still going strong, thanks to his expertise and thoroughness. All those horror stories you hear about mechanics? Forget about it! Maurice is honest, pleasant, and explains everything he does. If he replaces a part, he shows you the old part so you can see how worn out it was. He will go the extra mile to get your car back to you in a timely manner. Maurice's business was recommended to me by one of my neighbors, and it was one of the most useful recommendation I had :) First of all, I like that I am getting a very personalized approach when bringing my car to Maurice. He would always discuss the issue, and, if applicable, also discuss various budget and complexity options. Secondly, I was impressed that a few times he took on some non-standard jobs which included making custom hardware parts and some tricky accessory set-up. Maurice is also very punctual, and would keep you well informed about the progress and pickup times. This, unfortunately, was not the case for some of the garages which I worked with previously, so I appreciate Maurice's reliability. Maurice at MEK auto is a top notch, honest mechanic. My 2013 VW Passat was blowing out hot air for months as I was going from mechanic to mechanic trying to diagnose the issue. I was getting quotes from $500-$800 saying I needed a new compressor OR condenser. The inconsistencies of diagnoses led me to get a final opinion, and that's when I found Maurice. I called Maurice first thing in the morning and he encouraged me to come by that day to get it looked at. I pulled into his shop and he could not have been more friendly and professional. He explained to me why my AC was blowing out hot air in terms I could understand. He suggested dumping a bunch of Freon into my car as this was a the most cost efficient option and least invasive. He didn't guarantee this would be a long term solution but to wait a few days and call back if the issue persisted. This was around 3 months and my AC has been working perfectly ever since. Could not recommend Maurice and MEK auto enough and have been referring my family and friends to him. 5/5 stars. read more

Maurice is a very nice mechanic, who cares about what he does. I came in with an air conditioner issue, which he took two rounds to attempt to fix over a week's time. The second time cost over $200 and didn't last the full day - hot air was blowing just a few hours after I picked it up. When he learned it wasn't working he suggested that I take it to the dealer for them to check it out. I did, and they fixed it perfectly. I'm giving him 3 stars for his professionalism, however, docking 2 as my car was not repaired. read more

I love Maurice! He sure knows his stuff. He is an honest, hard-working mechanic, and one you should definitely take your car to. He was recommended to my family and I years ago, and I refuse to go anywhere else. He is always willing to help out wherever he can. He has been helping me keep my Prius alive and running, including some custom made protection against catalytic converter theft! He always has a smile on his face and works to keep his customers happy and I really appreciate that. Any time I pop over with a question or ask for some help he is there to lend a hand. My car suddenly started overheating and luckily I was passing by Mek's shop so I immediately pulled in. I hadn't done any previous research nor had I ever been to a car mechanic. Maurice could tell I was a little shaken up but he was very helpful. He didn't take advantage of me being alone and young (like other auto shops may) he walked me through the entire process and what would happen with my parts. He only kept my car over the weekend and made sure to call me to give me updates. I had to have my entire radiator replaced and made sure to check out other places - but Maurice's prices really could not be beat. I really appreciate how he values his customers and makes sure we're comfortable. My 20 year old car will probably be needing more work soon and I will 100% only be going back to Maurices! I had recently gone in for a smog inspection at a garage in woodland hills and when they gave me a big fat FAIL for a check engine light for $70. They never told me where the leak was coming for or even the code related to the OBD reading. I called up MEKs and asked if he would be able to get a reading on the codes I had encountered. Within 15 minutes they had my car checked out and had the codes read and explained to me. I will be coming here for all of my current and future repairs! read more

Found this mechanic tucked away in plain sight on Canoga Ave. For a year and a half every tune up or question I've had about my car Maurice has cheerfully and honestly explained to me and corrected within the constraints of my budget. I have the utmost confidence in his work ethic and have never felt taken advantage of. Very dishonest... I took my car to this shop some time ago because it was overheating really bad and there's a lot of vibration. He said that the problem was the engine support that's why its vibrating a lot so he will try to weld it and he also said that the timing belt and the water pump needs to be changed. I asked him if its better to just get a new engine, but he told me that it will cost me a lot more. He charged around $1300 and less than a week, my car started overheating again. I called him for the issue and he stated that its probably a new issue on my car. Lol! I went to another shop in Reseda and the guy there was been honest enough to tell me that I need a new engine. He installed me a low mileage engine and put a new compressor way less! read more

Maurice is a great mechanic at a reasonable price. His diagnostic is always correct and he fixes it right the first time. I am so pleased with his services that I drive from Simi Valley to get all my cars serviced or repaired at his shop. When one of my cars broke down a couple of weeks ago, I chose to pay extra AAA mileage to take it to his shop instead of following their recommendations to take my car to a more local shop because I trust Maurice's judgement and integrity to do the right thing.
