The strangest things happen at the strangest times .... a friend used my washing machine as hers decided to take a break and , you know, everyone has different habits ..the load finished and i had made mention not to lift the lid until the machine completely stopped ... she lifted the lid and ran to me in panic... this was 8 pm on a Friday night ... there was a mechanical whirrrring sound as if the machine was still spinning but there was no movement ... did something strange happen electrically outside of the machine's control????? And it wouldn't stop ...i was envisioning an electrical fire and total destruction...i called Matt who quite calmly walked me through every conceivable possibility but there was no change ... turned off the water / disconnected all power/ checked all other nearby sources of power but no!!!! The sound was coming from right here ... " call me back in 1/2 hour " he said !! And what ?? I was frantic !! I hung up / grit my teeth and turned off the light .... What / Nothing ? i can't believe ... i hit an adjacent "flipper" which controlled the fan which i had never used and this turned out to be the "evil" sound.that could not be found... i felt like a real dummy ( i really am ).... i called Matt and sheepishly told my story .. I am reposting this review (w/minor edits) because my original post was not included by YELP. MEL did an excellent job on a whole-house rewire and panel upgrade for us. When bidding the job Matt gave helpful suggestions and asked questions that helped me get the most out of our project (instead of just listening to me--a layperson--and bidding what I was guessing we needed). Then Matt responded quickly, thoroughly, and patiently to my many follow-up questions. Ebony communicated clearly with us as to time frame of things and was always available for questions. The crew did a great job of minimizing cuts into the walls, coming up with creative solutions in our old home, and leaving the worksite clean every day. And they were very conscious about not leaving us without power anywhere significant overnight. Fabian always made sure we understood and were okay with whatever area would be unpowered overnight: a receptacle hear and there...the biggest area was the garage, which was no big deal. He was also very patient with my questions and kept me in the loop of how the work was progressing, which put my mind at ease. And they've been just as responsive to our requests to come fine-tune a couple small items from the finished work as they were when they were trying to gain our business. We purchased a new home in Napa CA. The inspection report mentioned our 100-amp main panel should be updated with new breakers and is equipped with a Federal Pacific or Zinsco Brand panel. Most of these panels are obsolete today. and Zinsco panels often can fail to operate properly and may leave homes and homeowners at risk to both fire and electrical shock. Matt provided us with an onsite visit May of 2023. He was very professional and scoped the outside 100 AMP panel for the estimate per the home inspection report. The recommendation was to do a full panel upgrade w/ new component's that are up to code. Mel Elect. notified of the scheduled start date and prepared for the ONE-day turnaround. PG&E sub-contractor team arrived on site to deenergize the main panel. Mel electric started the panel work upgrade. When completed, Mel Elect. Notified the PG&E team to energize the main panel. City of Napa inspection Dept. arrived soon for the final inspection for 100% sign off. Mel's on-site foreman was very professional and took the time to answer my questions. As a person in const. working 43 yrs. And 25 yrs. as a superintendent, I truly will say Mel elect met my requirements of good workman ship. read more

We had major infrastructure damage from the North Bay fires. Matt was so responsive to us every step of the way from meeting for initial estimate meeting, taking the time to investigate a very complex electrical system installed by the previous owner through efficient and prompt completion of work. In June 2019, my husband and I looked into purchasing a 16KW standby generator and using Mel Electric to install it. Matt Lopez from Mel Electric promptly responded. He came to the house to evaluate our needs and sent a detailed contract shortly afterward. We did not end up purchasing this type of generator because we were concerned about the generator's reliability. However, we were extremely impressed with Mr. Lopez's depth of knowledge and straightforward approach in addressing our complicated situation from obtaining utility company and building department approval, to installing new conduit and wiring for an automatic transfer switch, to other conduits and wirings for various subpanels, to digging a trench for electric and gas, etc. His plan and calculations were as fair, thoughtful and meticulous as a professional's should be. MELELECTRIC: This was a complete rewire and a little scary. Initially, Matt took a good look around and asked us questions. In fact (unlike the other 3 bidders), he took the time to take us through some of the more complicated aspects of the job patiently and carefully to help us get to what we wanted and needed. GREAT price, arrived on time, finished early and the preliminary inspection signed off within 5 minutes (literally). Second fit - again finished early. A couple of 'snags' (I forget what you call that here - the snagging list is what I know it as) were dealt with within 24 hours. Matt is the boss and Ebony, a brilliant office manager/customer liaison. The crew at our place; Kenny et al were fantastic. And NO nickel and diming!! After purchasing a gas generator I realized the inconveniences of owning and operating it: maintaining gas fuel in it by adding fuel stabilizer, when power is out you have to go outside and start up the unit, if you are low on gas you have to go out to get a container full, if the power outage lasts days then you have to keep refilling it and if I'm not home as I was frequently in the city days at a time, all my food would spoil. The Generac addressed al those issues. I don't need to be home since it turned on automatically. It's far more expensive but worth the cost for the peace of mind. Mel Electric made it all easy to install. It took three days for the installation process but the crew was very efficient and friendly. Only drawback is that at the time I had to wait months for the start date so if you're thinking of a premium generator and installer : Mel Electric is the company to contact. read more

MEL Electric did a fantastic job installing a generator that powers my entire home when PG&E goes down, which it frequently does, especially now during the extended fire seasons we now experiencing. It was a complicated job finding a conforming site to place the unit which took a long time and many visits to my property before any permit application could be filed. The handled the whole thing and once we got the go-ahead did an outstanding job with the install. This was a very good experience from start to finish. Matt was great- we actually were going to buy one house and ended up with another. Both needed new panels and Matt gave us bids on both. He told us when he'd be there and he arrived when he said he would. He clearly knew what he was doing and made great suggestions and recommendations. 20 years of living on the Northern California Coastal Range means electrical failures all year long. I finally had it and responded to an ad about generators. The next day I had an email from MEL Electric, that afternoon I got a call and the next week MEL came out for a site inspection. The next day I had a detailed quote, and that afternoon I had a contract. So far they have taken care of every detail all the way up the permit process which in Sonoma County is no easy thing. They keep me in the loop and will send site preparation details when they meet with inspectors.
