Meli-Melo has a long menu of sweet and savory crepes, soups, juices and smoothies, and pastries, and my husband and I were excited to try the restaurant for Saturday brunch. When we arrived, a long line had already formed, but it moved quickly, and we were seated in less than 15 minutes. The restaurant is small with a bakery at one end and the kitchen and smoothie/juice bar at the other. Tables are close together - get cozy with your neighbors! After perusing the incredibly long menu, we were eager to try everything, so we ordered and shared the curry noodle soup (one of the daily specials), shrimp salad crepe, and the apple-pear-ginger-lemon-parsley juice. Our food arrived very quickly - less than 10 minutes after we ordered, we were already enjoying the fresh and flavorful dishes. The curry noodle soup was terrific comfort food on a harsh, cold winter day; the shrimp salad crepe was light and refreshing; and the juice was so delicious. Overall, we were very pleased with everything we ordered, the speed with which we were served, and the prices. We were in and out in under an hour! That said, if you're looking for a slow-paced and relaxing brunch experience, this tiny restaurant is probably not the best bet. As we left the restaurant, we stopped at the bakery counter and purchased a pistachio macaroon, blueberry tart, and a chocolate croissant for breakfast the next morning. Nutella Banana Crepe was overcooked and was slightly burnt (it wasn't too bad). Kind of like Georgetown in DC. I ordered the seafood chowder and I designed my own crepe: apple, cinnamon and nutella. Their tea is also amazing. We didn't have to wait long for seating. I try to get down here for lunch at least a couple of times a week. I like the cheese and spinach quiche with a side salad/ mustard dijon dressing for $10! If you like fresh mixed juices such as beets carrots and ginger, my favorite, it's on the menu along with lots of others. The food is great as my friends who had sandwiches attest to. Listen, the food is okay, but the manager and staff act so inappropriately I can't support this business. I experienced meli melo transform from a small space and POLITE service into a larger place reeking of their insecurity to keep business. Recently I've received unwarranted sass in every step of the process, getting a seat, placing orders, exc. The most deplorable moment was when my mother asked for milk for her tea and the dark haired male waiter standing behind her ROLLED HIS EYES. As if I couldn't see him? He replied with a sharp "okay" and turn similar to a rebellious teenager being told to clean his room. It seems like others have experienced meli melo's borderline passive aggressive waitstaff. I didn't understand how management failed to address this issue UNTIL I was waiting for a table for two and the hostess seated two people who came in after Us First. I asked for the manager and lo and behold the man not caring to make eye contact with me but plastered with a painful smile WAS THE MANAGER. Makes sense and it's almost sad. How can a Disrespectful manager have a chance to hire good customer service? It's almost like he looks for bad manners in his wait staff interviews. A couple of minutes after THAT, the manager came over and told me that she would like me to move to a smaller table. She didn't ask politely, didn't ask for my understanding, she literally told me to move. The fact that I had already asked and been told that it was ok, or that there were other empty four-tops in the restaurant, meant nothing to her. That, of course, was my cue to get up and leave. Any table-service restaurant that would seat a diner and then tell them unceremoniously and without apology to move is utterly incompetent IMO. So, technically I didn't eat here... Meli-Melo is a gem of a place. Tucked into a tiny yellow storefront next to Greenwich's movie theater, Meli-Melo serves up full meals or a quick snack to go. The owners, a couple of frenchmen from Brittany have really stayed true to form with their crepes: if you were eating crepes in a small town in Brittany, this is what they would taste like. The buckwheat crepes, traditionally eaten as a main course, are outstanding. The dessert crepes, called "crepes au froment" are fantastic as well. The homemade ice cream and freshly made juices are to die for. And the soups! Try the soups! I could go on and on. My 3 yo daughter had a grilled cheese made with the same flavorless cheese. I had given her the 2 slices of baguette that came with my soup because she wouldn't eat her sandwich... when I asked our server for a few more baguette slices for her, he said they didn't have any more... hard to swallow when it's being delivered on other people's plates. My husband had the croque madame which was probably the best of our 4 meals but still uninspired. Such a simple food but easy to do poorly. Our plates were virtually full and he never came over to see how things were - ignorance is bliss? Hopefully he was just having a bad day as all the other servers were great. Have to say I enjoyed the movie much more than the disapointing pre-movie meal. Everything on the menu -sounded- delish, but the execution was lacking. I ordered the Four Seasons crepe, a melange of veggies on a buckwheat crepe topped with mozzarella. The resulting dish was something like a cold salad gone strange...I felt as if I'd ordered in a foreign country, expecting onion soup and receiving cornstarch-slurried gravy with a few frazzled raw red onions thrown in. (True experience in the DR. Still gives me the chills. Ew). My crepe was topped with blanched asparagus, hearts of palm, artichoke, avocado, sun dried-tomatoes, and a liberal abundance of asian bean sprouts (?) all of which were in varying stages of cold to tepid, all of which were unseasoned and bland bland bland. This for 13.50? My sweetie's smoked salmon crepe was skimpy with the salmon and the daikon radish. To be fair, after this we were hesitant to try anything else on the menu, so perhaps their ice creams or desserts are much better, if still overpriced. (Four bucks for a scoop of ice cream?) I called to place an order for pick up. The first time I called they hung up on me. The second time they were extremely rude when I repeated my order to check to make sure they had everything. In other instances they have forgotten or have not correctly filled my order, nonetheless the server had a very unfriendly vibe. When I went to pick up my order I tried to make two separate transactions, one for me and one for a friend each for an 8$ sandwich. Mysterious construction around this establishment concerned me, but my fears were quelled by the unveiling of a much larger dining space! hooray! Now you can eat your delicious buckwheat (yes, and I wouldn't have it any other way) crepes while throwing your elbows about recklessly and the only effect it will have is strange looks. Since I've decided I don't need to stray any further than the salmon crepe, my only source of adventure comes from the soup and dessert menu.
