I ordered a veggie burrito and I thought it would be traditional but instead received a weird veggie burrito with broccoli in it. It was totally dry too with hardly any beans. I did look it up seems thats just how they make it. And it was supposed to come with sour cream and salsa but I didn't taste or see any. I went here based on a picture of their salsa. I've been looking for a specific blended red salsa for years. I found it! And this one's hotter than I remember. When you think of typical Mexican fare... burritos, tacos, enchiladas, chile rellenos... you have a flavor in mind. Found this hidden spot in Downtown Brisbane, and it definitely did not disappoint! I got the plate with Chile Relleno and a Chicken Enchilada for around 17 dollars with tax. At first I was skeptical cause it's definitely on the pricier side, but it also came with rice and refried beans with cheese, as well as pico, lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream. In my opinion for that amount of food and considering how hefty the Chile Relleno was the price was right! My brother got the lengua super burrito and said it was good as well. The salsa they gave us was spicy and flavorful. The reason why this is three stars is because I received a dinky amount of salsa and the chips taste like they are from a bag. The other items were mediocre for the price not worth coming back for, blah. They have a large drink selection and I don't know what else to say about this place but the food is overpriced for the quality. Normally I would be all over this but decided on tacos; one Pastor and one Asada. The spicy salsa and the pico combined with the thick chips, were the stars of this meal. Asada was flavorless. The cheesy nachos and fresh guacamole are extraordinarily delicious!! This fantastic Mexican restaurant with an extensive menu is also is a rare gem for another reason. I'm struggling to write a review for this place because it has some good points but also some lower ones. I ordered the Crispy taco and beef enchilada. First off the chips and taco shell or anything crunchy were just not okay. The shell and chips tasted either old or from a stale bag or both. They did not taste like homemade chips or a homemade taco shell and that was a bummer. The meat was chunky and well seasoned but the red sauce was very plain. I was Rolling around Brisbane in my Work Whip Big Ken . I noticed it was Dinner time . I was Craving Mexican Food . So I checked my Yelp App and Melissa's Taqueria Popped up . I rolled there in my Work Whip . I was able to park across the street . Plenty of street parking . I rolled into Melissa's Taqueria and was greeted warmly by a Jolly Gentleman working the Front of the House . I Perused the Wall Menu and Ordered a Combination Plate - Mexican Rice , Beans , Guacamole Salad , Beef Enchilada and a Pork Tamale . I also ordered a Super Fish Tilapia Taco with Guacamole and Sour Cream. I paid by Credit Card . The Nice Gentleman working the front of house dropped off some Chips and Salsa for me to munch on while I was waiting for my Food . Melissa's Taqueria is a small Cozy Inviting Restaurant . It decorated in Traditional Dark Wood Mexican Motif. There are 2 LCD TVs for Entertainment . 20 Minutes Later my Server brought all my food at Once !! Rafael personally runs his business. Honestly, I've never tasted fresher and higher quality ingredients in any other Mexican food restaurant. And they cook most everything in the grill, making a huge difference in taste. Oh, and they make their own sangria. It is better than sangrias I've had in most high-end restaurants. Went about 4:30 pm last night for dinner. My husband ordered the Shrimp burrito and loved it. I had the taco/tamale combination. I loved the beans but not the rice as the flavor was off and a lot of crunchy uncooked rice. The taco shell appeared to have been pre-made but the filling was excellent as was the tamale. Like the chips and one of the two salsas was very hot and excellent. The chips were good but when we went to add salt the bottle was filthy and sticky, Food was sitting on a previous table when we walked in for dinner and out.. we were the only ones in the restaurant. I have lived in Brisbane for 3 decades now. When my kids were younger, this was a regular spot for them after school for nachos with everything or for family dinners or occasional weekend breakfast. Since they have grown, I don't go as often, but drop in from time to time. I work long hours, generally getting back to town late, plus my big meal of the day is lunch and I generally don't eat an evening meal. This spot has a lovely atmosphere and Rafael is the nicest/kindest man! As an aside, he is also a wonderful supporter of many of the non-profits in Brisbane, so he is well loved and appreciated by the residents. I stopped in recently and ordered pozole, which I had never had here before. I can vouch for the menudo being great though. To my delight, the pozole was AMAZING!!! The to-go bag was packed with rolled up warm tortillas, a sliced whole lime wrapped in foil and small containers full of chopped up raddish, cabbage, an onion and fresh parsley blend, hot sauce (YUM!) and then chips and fresh salsa/pico de gallo as well. The pozole so knocked my socks off that I went back to get it again, this last Sunday, but he said he had sold out the day before... due to it being a popular order during cold/wet weather. He said he would have some this week, so I stopped in last night and bought two big containers - again, absolutely delicious! I finished a half containter last night and brought the unopened one into work today to share with my coworker, who says pozole is her favorite soup of all time, that her family makes it often as well, and she gave this one high praise and even went back for seconds. I am hoping Rafael keeps this as a regular on his menu as I can see myself ordering this weekly, in bulk, just to have in the fridge for lunch or dinner over a few days. Happy to know easy and friendly access to this deliciousness exists so close to home for me... but it would be worth the drive as well! read more
