I have been coming to Superstar ever since I was a little kid and it is always a treat! My go-to order is the Hong Kong Style PorkChop ($8). It comes with 2 large pieces of pork chop, garlic fried rice topped with crispy garlic, one egg (cooked to your preference) and either diced tomatoes or pineapples. I am always left super full from this meal and sometimes I can even split it into 2! It also stays crispy and reheats well in the airfryer. They serve other Filipino foods as well such as tocino, longanisa, baby bangus, etc. Each plate comes with the garlic fried rice, egg and either tomatoes or pineapples. What I absolutely love about this place is the quick service and cheap eats. Their plates used to be cheaper but of course due to inflation, the price is still unmatched in the city. This place is cash only and does not have indoor seating. There is also a similar restaurant located in Daly City by top of the hill called Gateway Kitchen that has almost the same exact menu + prices for their plates. Parking can be difficult in this area but the service is so quick that you can just double park in front. I will continue to visit this place over and over again. Superstar is a hidden gem for sure, serving up affordable Filipino comfort foods with a touch of Chinese influence. This local-owned eatery has been in business since 1990. Don't judge the place by its looks, doesn't look so nice from the shop, they still have the original menu/prices from the business previously up. Just place your order with the friendly staff and your belly will thank you. I really wanted to grab more than 2 plates but didn't want the food to go to waste if we can't finish, ended up with the famous pork chop, bangus, and side of popcorn chicken. For the plate you get a choice of pineapple or tomatoes, fried egg and garlic rice. & the verdict: Wow. that pork chop was super good, juicy, crispy, tender, and super flavorful, the best ever had with garlic rice and how they cook the egg ( Filipino style like how you see on the Instagram reels) The bangus was boneless and has a nice smoke flavor. Stopped by Superstar Restaurant and it definitely hit the spot. For around $10, the Hong Kong-style pork chop over garlic rice is an absolute steal--you really can't go wrong with it. Came to the city because my boyfriend and I had errands to take care of in the morning. By lunchtime I was starving, and luckily we were already in the area. He told me, "I know a spot nearby," and it turned out to be right in the neighborhood. I had never been there before, but he immediately said to get the pork chop with garlic rice. Prices for the regular plates like the Filipino tapsilog was $6.50 and I added a side of longanisa sausage for $4 for two sausages. The flavor was ok for both. I think the meat was a little dry but some spicy vinegar at home made up for it. Longanisa was ok, didn't have that distinct longanisa flavor but still tasty enough. We lucked out and found a parking space out front. And then there were only a few people in front of us at 12:30pm on a Monday. This was my first time here. It is cash only and there is no dine in. Looks like there is only 3 people working - the cashier and 2 cooks. All meals Are cooked to order which I like. We ordered the fried chicken and chicken wing meal. It came with an overcooked fried egg and some chunked tomato. My wings were fine. They were crispy but small. The egg was overcooked. The tomato was delicious. I loved the garlic rice although the garlic stayed with me the rest of the afternoon. My husband said his chicken fryer leg was dry. Our Total was like $17. What a Deal! It is definitely a hole in the wall but thats how you know the food is gonna be good. It was our first time here but I would expect nothing less as far as service and quality of good. Since my last review, we had a moment where we went here almost every Saturday, even when I'd get off of work early. We've tapered off a little. We didn't want to get sick of it. This is the place I've been coming to for 20 years. In 10 years, they've only raised the price twice and a meal is still under $10! When you walk in the restaurant, orders are placed at the counter. It's still set up like Covid days. The woman at the counter takes your order as soon as you're ready and your order is out within minutes and it's hot and cooked fresh to order. A classic. Worth every penny. Great portions. Garlicky flavors. A household staple in my family since the 90s. This is the original with tomatoes which is more culturally standard with tselogs. Superstar never fails. Pricing has always been low for the average in the area. You really get so much value in flavor, convenience, and portions. I've eaten here regularly as far back as I could remember. Their menu has expanded to more Filipino staples, and I'm glad for that. You could really feed a family on a tight budget. I have tried other places and they are good too, but you can't beat this price, the efficiency of this family owned business (you're never waiting long) and customer service. I came today on a Saturday at 1:30pm. I felt disappointed from my experience because a lot of items were sold out. I wanted to try the HK style pork chop but it was sold out, so I went with the fried pork chop. She was a bit curt and charged me for a plastic bag without asking. After I paid, I noticed she asked a lady to pay $0.25 when she asked for an extra bag so I asked if she charged me too and she said yes but was willing to give me back $0.25. She also said there is a 20-30 mins wait, with later customers who came around 2pm given an estimated time 30-40 mins. I was shocked and most people were still willing to wait. Only 1 chair available so I stood there until around 1:55pm then my food came so it really took 25 mins wait. I don't think it was worth it since lumpia was very small for $4 for 8 pieces. They sell mini lumpias and not the normal size like other Filipino restaurants. Fried pork chop is around $8.50 since I paid $12.50 total. The food got cold since I bought it for dinner. When I microwaved it, the garlic turned black and the pork chops were dried. It probably would have been better if I ate it fresh but my family decided to go somewhere else for lunch since there's no dine in here so I bought it for take out dinner. I felt like SF Gate hyped it up too much. I was in the area visiting my aunt or else I wouldn't come all the way here to wait 30 mins for my food.
