Brunch. Did you hear that? It's like breakfast with a crunch. BRUNCH!! And it's coming to your local Mellow Fellow under the clever and skillful hand of Chef Clint Jolly. I was scanning the old FB and saw an event posted, talking about a preview of the new brunch menu coming up! I said...I must have this. With an ample introduction to every menu item that is planned to be on the menu, I can without a doubt say that every single item is creative, and worthy of being inside of your belly. My favorite was the Chilaquiles. Tangy and tasty. Runny awesome eggs on top. I will be returning for that one. The other favorite was the slightly sweet breakfast sandwich. Mmmmmm good with that tomato jam. And of course I can't NOT mention the Chicken and Waffles. Dark meat boneless chicken cuts breaded and fried and sandwiched in between two waffles of plenty. I can't vouch for the portion sizes because we came and were served as a party of 7. The service was good. But we were at the bar with 5 lovely ladies, so you know you are going to get the best service in the house. Mellow is well known for their excellent beer program. They always have more than a handful of unique brews of the highest quality. Our meal was paired with three breakfast beers. Who knew? I wasn't in the drinking mood so I got me a very nice virgin bloody mary. How appropriate, a virgin mary! We will be back! Keep an eye out for the different beer events that Mellow puts on too, because they can be a blast and a great way to sample your way to an awkward Uber ride home. A note for the time being, the road situation around the place just SUCKs, but you can still find parking, unless it's around game time for the Aces. Parking may get a little dicey. I suggest calling before you go, they can let you know if the parking garage is gonna cost you anything. read more

Used to be one of my favorite go to before a Reno Aces game. And don't get me wrong the food is good. BUT, The service though needs lots of help. They really don't make you feel welcome to be there. No smiles, no how you doing, No refills or chance to buy another beer. No I will be right with you. Waited 20 minutes for drinks and take food order and 1 hr and 15 minutes foe food to arrive. The only saving grace was the quality of the food when it got there. Probably find another place to go that will make you feel like they want you to be there. read more

Came here on a whim after going for a spring hike nearby (trails in Tahoe are still muddy/snowy in late May of a heavy snow year). The food was amazing. I had their weekly special "Mayham" burger, basically one of their shortrib+bison patties PLUS a delicious cut of ham... decadent and executed to perfection. I enjoyed my beer, too. Gf had the shrimp louie salad, but made the mistake of trying my burger first, said the salad afterward was just 'good.' Well, that's meat for ya. Still, had a grand time here, and will be keeping in mind that there's great food just outside of Tahoe if you're willing to drive a little further. Thanks MF! read more

We stopped in for a late lunch and the food was delicious. We tried the unusual and yet delicious deep fried pickled beets. The sauce that came with it was delicious as well. They were accommodating and allowed me to switch proteins on a menu item (the patty is fire). Avid watermelon rhubarb cider was refreshing as well. This is my 2nd visit. What an improvement from the first time! I went with a group of girlfriends and it was unanimous, we love this place. It's going to become our new regular meeting place. I had the cheese curds to share and the fish tacos. Unbelievably good. I'm not the only one who thought so. Everyone at my table enjoyed their meal. We had exceptional service on top of that. In a super busy bar they helped us locate a group that was about to leave so that we could take the table before it was taken by another group. Every time I come here, my experience seems to only get better. They have consistently good food, sometimes with featured specials, and rotating beers on tap. I don't drink much beer, but they are always able to make me a delicious cocktail in its place! The staff are always polite and welcoming, too. Regarding COVID-19, I appreciate that the staff wears masks at all times, and there is hand sanitizer provided for guests. I hadn't noticed if the tables were following social distance protocols, but usually the patrons have been pretty good at sitting relatively far apart from parties that aren't their own. Parking is accessible in the attached garage, but street parking is pretty easy to secure nearby, too. I'm not sure if Mellow Fellow is doing their daily events (like their taco or trivia nights), but all in all they're becoming a staple whenever I'm craving good food and a mellow atmosphere where it's almost never overcrowded when I go. This has been on the "to try" list for a very long time. When we heard about a new menu and Clint Jolly's hand it it's development, we knew we had to go in and give it a try. We came on a Friday afternoon for a late lunch. There was plenty of room and service was efficient and attentive. OMG they have a lot of beers! I opted for the Mission Hefe. It was just the right balance of Yeasty acidity with just a hint of sweetness. It was a warm yellow beer and was a perfect paring for a light lunch. I opted for the Cauliflower Cheddar soup and nibbled a few bites of my husband's fried chicken and garlic fries. The soup was delicious. Hot and rich with the nutty taste of roasted cauliflower all blended in a rich cheese base. There was a side of a very small very toasted slice of bread with with tomato jam. The bread was supposed to be pretzel bread but it was more like a large crouton - very hard to eat. The tomato jam was sweet and flavorful. I think it looks like a good option for lunch or a casual dinner. Rumor has it that they have a great happy hour, so am hoping to make it back and give it a try. Mellow Fellow is located in East Downtown Reno near the Aces Baseball Park. It's a great restaurant and bar to go to before a baseball game and Reno 1868 soccer games when we still had a team. The few times I have been I ordered the Mellow Fellow Nachos ($12) and if you wan to add meat it's an extra $4. I also like the Korean BBQ Pork Sliders ($11). If you are looking for something different and want to support a local Reno Business, I suggest trying out Mellow Fellow. Writing this review based on the potential that Mellow Fellow has, not necessarily how the execution was for my one meal there. Great location, right by the Courtyard and ballpark so really convenient if staying there. Food: Overall pretty average, but huge menu! The fish tacos were good, but the thai pork belly tacos were dry and disappointing with an extremely salty sauce. I also got the chicken wings that were below average. With all this being said, the menu had a lot of creative options so I will definitely go back and try other things. Service/atmosphere: tremendous! Cass was extremely nice while taking my order and the place has a great vibe. Lots of beer options, seating choices, and plenty of tv options. Not an amazing first experience, but I think this place has a lot of upside. read more

I have been coming here time and time again and have not been disappointed. Usually a go to hang out spot if nothing else is going on. This year we were a bit late on our NYE plans. But never fear when Ryan is here. He has always hooked us up and sure enough they were having a NYE party. I called and of course Ryan hooked us up with the entire back room. We had a party of 35-40 people and everything was great. From the beers to the drinks to the shots and even the appetizers were perfect. No one waited more than maybe a couple minutes for a drink. Imagine that, with a party that size and can be taken care of that well even while the front room and bar is still running with other guests to serve. Hats off to the employees here. This was a stop on the Reno Beer Bike tour I was on. I hadn't been in since it was Slice of the Peak so I didn't really have any expectations. I was BLOWN AWAY by their beer selection board. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. So many good craft beers it was hard to choose just one or two! Food was good for a quick bite to eat (although, if I remember, it took a while to get our order out). I would go here for a libation again before beginning a fun night out in downtown Reno, at Greater Nevada Field or mid-town. read more

We recently attended their first Dueling beers dinner. It was five courses with 2 pairings for each course, one from Brewer's Cabinet and one from New Belgium. I was blown away by the meal put together by Clint Jolly (the chef) and Ryan (the owner). After each course we got to hear from a rep from New Belgium, and one from Brewer's Cabinet. Right across from Aces stadium, pretty convenient location, especially if you're on foot. We got the grilled cheese and the Sabaro burger. Burger was solid! The grilled cheese was a little burnt which made the edges hard to eat and one of the cheeses was very overwhelming, it might be better in a smaller portion. I am very much a fan of Mellow Fellow. They have an excellent beer selection, friendly and knowledgeable bartenders, and tasty food. There are TVs at all the right places to watch whatever sportsing is on, and the pool table and table shuffleboard and video games are great fun. Tonight I went to the first meeting of Barley's Angels Northern Nevada, which Mellow Fellow hosted, and dayum! The aesthetics of the event and the beer education were superb. So I recommend to all Yelpers: go drink there! Why only four stars, then? I hate to say it: 'cuz it's in a weird part of downtown. (And I'm saying this as a former resident of an even weirder part of downtown.) Sometimes it's nice to not see folks having... drama... while one is parking one's car and heading in for a drink and some relaxing. And it's highly likely that someone will be having drama near Mellow Fellow whether it's afternoon or evening or gameday or not. So I don't think of Mellow Fellow as the place to go as often as I should. But I should! They are organizing super cool events like brewery "takeover" days where they bring in beers that one usually needs to go to the original brewery to enjoy. Their food really is delicious. And when I want to be adventurous with beers, I know it's a place that will deliver. read more

I met up with a very large group of people here and am unsure if they knew we were coming. They opened at 12 and we all arrived right around then and took up two of their large middle tables on the bar side. There were plenty of people in the kitchen and food was coming out fairly quickly but there was only one bartender/waitress to serve everyone. She acted calmly and was as consistent as possible with checking for initial orders, refills and food. We did a lot of moving around and mingling, which certainly did not make it easy on her. Throughout the afternoon the place proceeded to fill more and more and it wasn't until we were close to leaving that she finally got some help. Considering how short staffed they were, I was pretty impressed. The food we ordered was okay. I had a chorizo burger and my fiance had the bratwurst. Both had more than enough toppings (maybe too many) and were cooked perfectly. The couple of ciders I tried were lovely and the prices seemed to be a bit higher for the entire beer menu compared to the norm. However, they did offer a very large variety and some were from breweries I had never heard of before. Overall great service, decent food, but higher priced. read more

We like it because it's close to downtown and usually we can see the fireworks there (unfortunately because of Covid no fireworks this year). Location is a bit difficult to get to, but if you get there early enough you may be able to park on the street. There is a garage right near there, but it costs $11 and you get a voucher for a can of beer at Mellow Fellow. The atmosphere is really cool with bottles of beer on the walls and over 50 taps of brews. There's always something to look at! It is first come, first serve with limited tables so if there is an Ace's game get there early! We were a table of 8 and luckily got a table for ourselves. Our server was Joe and he is quite the character! He knows his beer and is not shy to give recommendations on food or beer. He was very helpful and made sure our food came out with plenty of time for us to eat and get to the game. It was pretty busy and looked like it was mainly only Joe on the floor serving tables. I noticed though that Joe was taking everyone's order and then giving it to the kitchen so he was stacking the orders which slowed down the kitchen. I noticed almost the entire staff doesn't use trays even when carrying 4 to 5 beers. Even though it is impressive that the server gets them to the table, guests do notice that the entire time they are walking over they are spilling beer all over the floor and if your chair is pulled out enough it could go down the backs of guests. As a guest, I would prefer to see a server use a tray to take care of the mess and they can bring more tables drinks at once, skillfully and neatly. read more

Friends and I visited yesterday evening. It took a while to get the bartenders attention to order. Once food and drinks were ordered and served there was never a follow up check in. We weren't asked if the food was ok or if we wanted more drinks. It also took a lot for them to give us our checks. Very difficult to make contact with them politely.
