A lot of good reviews here so I hope my two trips here were a fluke. Pizza took forever and once I asked it magically showed up and was warm but not hot like normal. we decided to give it another go for take out, was told 45 min (during the weekday) when I picked it up there was almost no one in the restaurant, pizza was literally half burnt (like the entire one side was black) so within 6 min they had me another one. It's Mellow Mushroom! If you don't know about the Shroom, you're looking at a place with wonderful, unique pizzas. Their burgers are nice as well, but pizza is what keeps me coming back. I love the Maui Wowie and Redskin Potato Pie. Try the Redskin with jalapenos if you like a little kick. I wish the Mad Italian was still the old recipe, but sometimes they'll make it (old style) for me (though I ask for no olives!) It's pepperoni, salami, feta, banana peppers, and kalamata olives on an olive oil and garlic base. Yum! We had the best pizza/salad from here today. The Greek salad was super fresh and there was plenty for 2 of us. The veggie pizza was outstanding, can't say enough about it...thick, chewy crust and they don't skimp on the toppings. And the Customer Service was top notch. Austin and Logan made sure everything was to my liking. If you're looking for pizza, this is the place to go. You can always get your standard pizza, but they also have a bunch of unique specialty pizzas to try if you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary. read more

We heard about this place when we lived in NC but never got around to try it. We had extra time today and decide to try it. It was well worth the 30 minute drive. We ordered spinach and artichoke dip, and parmesan pretzels to start. Both were delicious, only thing we didn't like was the "red sauce" that came for dipping, it tasted like ragu or something. My husband had the buffalo pizza made into a calzone for his meal. Holy cow this thing was huge! I ordered the "magical mystery tour" pizza except I added garlic too it (because garlic runs through my veins lol). It was so yummy! We both didn't finish so now we have lunch for tomorrow. Placed a to go order and was told it would be an hour wait. I drove 22 miles to pick up the order and when I got there the rude cashier told me they had no record of my order and that i probably called the wrong location. I showed her on the phone where I dialed the correct number and I told her the time i called and she didn't care. We called the manager up to talk to him and he said "Oh well, She must have forgotten to enter your order, do you want me to enter it now?"I said no and and walked out. Worst customer service ever. The manager was more rude than the smart mouth clerk. You just lost a 5 year customer but I'm guessing you don't care. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

We actually have a Mellow Mushroom at home so normally I wouldn't choose to visit on vacation but since I have never actually been to the one here and I was dining alone with two kids under four I figured pizza would be a safe bet! We arrived at around 11 am, shortly after they opened for the day and they were not at all crowded. We were seated immediately and we ordered quickly. Then we waited. And waited. I know when I'm by myself with the kiddos any amount of time seems long so I know it seemed much longer than it was but apparently I was right to start to think the wait was getting extreme because the server came by to let me know that they had overcooked our pizza and were making us a new one. He also said that he would be bringing out a complimentary order of the cheese bread while we waited. He checked on us several times and talked to the girls and even brought them extra crayons. The cheese bread was very good when it arrived. I loved the marinara sauce that came with it. It was just about the best I've had in fact. The pizza arrived shortly there after and it was delicious. The perfect amount of stretchy cheese and plenty of toppings. I particularly liked the garlic buttered crust. When we finished and I got our bill I was surprised to see that the manager had also deducted 25% in addition to the free cheese bread and beverages. The manager even stopped by again to apologize for the delay with the pizza. In food service sometimes things go awry but great customer service can overcome almost any mishap and in this case it certainly did! I would gladly eat at this location if I'm ever in town again and it even inspires me to finally check out the one at home! read more

Food was good (Mellow Mushroom is always good), but the service was pathetic. Waited way too long for our pizza, then had to ask a different server for silverware, then asked yet a different server for water (and she ignored us and kept walking). Asked for a to-go box for our pizza and calzone, and of course they didn't bring a lid for the sauce. It seemed like chaos, and the table next to was treated even worse, with a manager apologizing and the server explaining why it wasn't her fault. I have only been to one other "Mellow Mushroom," 2x times before this one (Pooler, GA) & I didn't like it then and after visiting this location in Bluffton, SC during a family-visiting weekend, I will NEVER go to another Mellow Mushroom again. They have great food (a bit pricey) and a great looking establishment, but hiring young people to do an adult-standard job could only bring trouble. After being seated and our drink order taken, a large group of HS kids were seated behind us. After a slew of people working came over to say, "hello," we had to hear about their underage drinking, drug use and horribly-vulgar language (we had kids 14 to almost-2 with us) I got pelted hard with a lemon slice (2 of 2) as they tried throwing it to a table of friends next to us. I spoke with the manager after my husband threatened the kids himself first with actions of a not-so-nice outcome and he had them removed to the patio. I have never, ever had this happen to me and will never forget it. The manager gave us our appetizer for free to help make up for the trouble caused by the teenagers. I will say we had a great waiter. He was attentive and nice and handled our large party with what seemed like, with ease. ;-) Even AFTER the lemon throwing. read more

We end up at Mellow Mushroom most game days because they have an excellent line up of draft beers - the old standards along with the best local brews - with a full stocked bar. The food is consistently good and a slight bit of healthy with toppings like sprouts, but the prices can get a little high on basic food like sub sandwiches and pizza. The menu is hard to read on basic items like pizzas and additional topping are costly overall. The barstaff and the managers are great and it is a fun place to hang out during the game with a good local crowd. read more

We got hoagies this time. I had the Shrimp Hoag-Boy on wheat bread and it was really good! Nice to see grilled shrimp on this and to find that I didn't even wish that it was fried! Went here for an easy dinner, and it sounded fun. Actually, we went twice on our vacation last week. LOVED it. There were 4 of us the first time so we each picked a different small pizza so we could all have 1 piece of each kind. We picked Kosmic Karma, Funky Q. Chicken, Red Skin Potato Pie and Maui Wowie. We love this place. We play golf in Bluffton and wander in sweaty and hungry. The salads are great. Pizza comes in 3 sizes, and the veggies are very fresh. Two of us split a salad and medium pizza. Brand new restaurant that opened fairly recent. Same owner as the one in Hilton Head and so far it seems really popular. I thought the food was great and the prices were average for this area. The worst experience on the planet! Walk in and order pizza. 45 minute wait so we head home to wait. We come back to pick it up and the one pizza my vegetarian wife eats, has Parmesan cheese on it when we requested it to not be on the pizza or the crust. Then...the kid asked us to take the pizza because he didn't want to tell his manager. We asked for a refund and he said he would prefer not to. Wow! The manager comes over and doesn't even look us in the eye. Just apologizes and let's us know it would be another 45 minutes for another pizza to be made if we didn't want the refund and want a new pizza. Then...we get home with the salad we ordered (Greek) and it tastes as fishy as fish can get. Not sure why there would be anchovies in this dressing but apparently, there is in this one. Gross. So...pretzels sucked but usually good. Only thing worth eating was the pepperoni pizza. I am shocked the manager didn't offer us a gift card to return but it just goes to show you that kids trying to run businesses is not a good idea. I am out and will not return. But the service at this Mellow Mushroom is lacking....inattentive staff, that don't even look at you when you are ordering....we accidentally spilled a drink at our table - our waitress knew that we spilled it - and we sat with a wet table and floor for 10 min...while multiple associates walked past us....great food but they need to expect a little more from their staff. read more

I have been here several times, most recently the week before Christmas, and have sat at both the bar and at tables, and have never anything less than a great experience. The servers and bartenders have always been fast, attentive, and friendly, definitely above and beyond the norm for food at this price point. I love the fact that they are so great about any special requests. The food is always excellent (either the pizzas or salads) and comes out promptly. On my most recent visit, we just wanted an appetizer and ordered the bruschetta, something I rarely order because it seems so "blah." I was amazed when this came out. It was the best I have had....thin sliced bread smothered in tomatoes, feta, basil, and a balsamic drizzle. Absolutely not your typical brushetta, but sooooo good that I know it will be my new regular order. Much to my surprise, when we got the check, this was actually part of their happy hour specials, so this was the best deal ever. I cannot recommend this place enough!!!
