The Philosophers Pizza Pie has an Olive oil and garlic base, all natural grilled steak, Portobello mushrooms, artichoke hearts, Kalamata olives, Provolone, feta and mozzarella cheeses. It would have been just as good without the steak and I LOOOVE me some steak. It's a pizza deserving of a black tie restaurant in a bit of a hippie, whimsical atmosphere equally for kids and adults. 5 stars from me! read more

First experience ordering from Mellow Mushroom. I ordered a thin crust pizza. Walk there to pick it up and they tell me that I ordered a regular pizza. The girl who took the order repeated "thin crust". When we got there, the girl basically lied and said I didn't order thin crust. The bartender said, "ah, sorry sir, but we'll just through this one out and get you a thin crust. It'll be about 35 minutes." We obviously were in no mood to wait so we took the pizza as boxed. The pizza was lousy, by the way... Moral of the story, don't pay kids $5 an hour and expect them to care about their job. If you're from the Northeast like me, be prepared for what we call Sicilian, e.g. thick bread-like crust, soggy, with a sugary tomato sauce. Yeah, forget it... read more

We walked in 15 minutes before they closed to place a to go order. The staff thoroughly ignored us as we tried to get their attention for 5 minutes. Clearly, they didn't want to serve us because they were closing soon. We understood that, which is why we were going to order to go. Food is good but service is so slow every time. Last visit we went at 2:30 pm (during their slow time) and it was over an hour before we had our pizza. We wanted a quick bite before the movie and was late for the movie. I like their sandwiches and good vegetarian options too (tempeh hoagie is good). Also has kid menu with crayons which is nice. But If you just want pizza, Lupis has the best in town IMO. read more

Had the worst experience with the food and the service. Spoke with the manager and he was great and tried to make it right, but as soon as he left the server came back with a fellow server and called me names because I complained. Excellent food and service. Even though they don't take reservations at the Downtown Chattanooga location, I called ahead to prepare them for our large party of 23. Just before we arrived, another group of 20 walked in and took the tables they had prepared for us (fair, since they have a first come/first served policy) so we had to wait for the staff to setup some tables outside, but we were seated within 15 minutes. Tori, our waitress, was fantastic and even came back after taking our order to recommend a slight change, which we gladly accepted. read more

Mellow Mushroom is one of my favorite restaurants so when I visited the Chattanooga location last weekend with my husband, I was beyond excited. I definitely wasn't disappointed. The food was the best I've had at a Mellow Mushroom in years! The cooks accidentally made my husband the wrong pizza, and the waiter caught it. He brought the pizza out anyway for my husband to eat while they cooked what he ordered. 10/10. I would definitely visit again! read more

Great pizza, excellent calzones. We were here on a Saturday but we were seated quickly. Pizza was delicious, calzones too big too finish. My grandson did not like kids pizza as French bread. He would have preferred traditional crust but that was the only complaint. Our server was helpful and friendly. read more

The food is always excellent and mainly the only reason I would even think to go back. I recently visited to eat for my wedding anniversary and unfortunately ending in me leaving annoyed and still hungry. After being sat at a booth that wouldn't accommodate a high chair because it was to tall, we then asked our server if it were at all possible to move move to another booth if it's available, it only took 5 min of arguing that my small child cannot sit in a booster when I decided to hold him the entire time if we were ever gonna get to order much less eat. The service was great. They were very crowded but they got us in and took care of us quickly. The food was good typical Mellow pizza.

I would have at one time said best in Chattanooga but the hipsters have taken over the kitchen and this place is not what it once was. We asked if the beer was cold, the draft beer was, the bottle beer for two of us was WARM. The waiter did not offer to replace even though we had only taken a sip. No dressing on my Cesar salad at all, I had to again flag the waiter and get dressing. Now for the pizza, one was warm like it should be the other was stone cold.. The crust was tough as well. I have been here dozens of time but something is now wrong at Mellow Mushroom. That's it never again. Going to Lupis or Marco's for pizza next time. You think this kid waiter would have apologized or gotten the manager over but they were happy to just let us have a bad meal and walk out NEVER to return again. We had some drinks at the bar and ordered pizza and wings to go. The bartenders were awesome and we had such a nice time chatting with them. The girl bartender kept us updated as to when our order would be ready. She gave us a plastic bag tied at the top and said, "here, I put some plastic knives and forks and napkins in here for you." As soon as our pizza arrived we left. We even pre-paid so we wouldn't lose any time (and heat in the pizza). We live 5 minutes from Mellow Mushroom. When we got home the pizzas were cold and disgusting. There was no way a fresh, hot pizza gets cold that fast. We had noticed loads of pizzas sitting up on the hot shelves in the kitchen and thought, "all that food sitting there cannot be good." What the girl bartender had forgotten to mention was that the plastic bag she handed us early also had the hot wings and salad in it. They had not given us salad dressing and the wings had no sauce, and they had sat a good 10-15 minutes with us at the bar while we waited for the pizzas. Not cool Mellow Mushroom! read more

My first time at a Mellow Mushroom and I have to say I love it. What's not to love about good pizza and beer. Pizza might be a little pricey but it is very good. Atmosphere is very cool with paintings over the walls, cool art, and mellow vibes. Beer selection is great, many beers on tap here and a lot more bottles. My gf and I did a beer flight for cheap as well and it did not disappoint. Service was also good. read more

My family and I were in downtown Chattanooga the other day visiting from Los Angeles, it was getting late and we were hungry and since this restaurant was close to the parking structure we decided to order something we could eat on the road. Having never tried anything on the menu before, we were amazed with how delicious and fresh the Kosmic Karma pizza and meatballs tasted! We were so satisfied and wished we had ordered more so we could have leftovers! Fantastic pizza, but the key thing to remember is that it's the "Mellow" mushroom, not the "Rapid" mushroom. I enjoy going here in the early evenings (during the week. On the weekends, it's a madhouse of little league teams and families coming from the Aquarium. Which is fine, it just makes the wait for a table longer. By all means, a good place for families during the day.), and right before staff meetings that are going to take the rest of the afternoon. Not really, but the thought is always there. I really hope they keep their "Freshies" menu. There was a fantastic Pizza Margherita on it, and they will still occasionally make it if the mood strikes the cooks. The restaurant is built in the facility previously used by Carta for bus repair. That said, it's open, and airy, and VERY VERY LOUD. Especially if it's already crowded in there. I ate at mellow mushroom tonight with some of our friends. The server brought out the pizza my boyfriend and I were sharing, and it was cooked normally.... I told her that I had specified we were vegan. She apologized for forgetting to include that in the description when she rang in our food. The manager came out and offered us to munch on this pizza until they bring out a new one. We declined. She then added, "For the new pizza, would you like vegan cheese on the whole thing or just half?" Dumfounded, I stared at her and said, "Ma'am. We're vegan, so vegan cheese please. We don't want this pizza. We literally CANNOT eat it." And she was like, "Oh. I apologize. I just thought I'd ask because some vegans come in and ask for a pizza that has a mixture between the vegan and normal cheeses." And I'm thinking NO. What are you talking about??! There is absolutely NO vegan out there who would agree to consume dairy. Anyway. 10 minutes later, the manager returned and told us that the pesto base on our pizza wasn''t vegan and if we still wanted it. Seriously???! I've eaten at this location twice and ordered the same pizza. Servers told us it was vegan. APPARENTLY, they used to put nuts in the pesto sauce. But due to many nut allergies, Mellow Mushroom steered away from how pesto sauce originally should be made and instead, added parmesan to it. WHY! WHY WAS THIS NEVER BEFORE MENTIONED. Vegans aren't treated as seriously in today's society. We shouldn't have to eat at restaurants and claim that we're "lactose-intolerant vegetarians," but I feel like management wouldn't be so ignorant if we said that. Anyway, she comped the mess-up pizza and took 25% off our meal. I find this ridiculous. I work in a restaurant myself, and if something like this happened, the whole meal would have been comped. There should be a staff meeting at any restaurant whenever something on the menu gets altered because the servers should KNOW what they're serving to the customers. That's reasonable. read more

My friend and I decided to go and we were so excited but sadly disappointed :( We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer and the dip smacked but they gave us like 6 pieces of bread so we weren't able to finish it.
