This is a pretty cool place! The atmosphere is pretty chill/ laid back. The decor is funky and interesting and colorful. The menu... Eh. Now, don't get me wrong, the food that I have had there has been delicious, definitely not dissing that! But the menu, I'm not sure what it is about it, but Whenever I go out with friends we have to take a good 10 -15 Minutes looking at the menu trying to figure out what we want. Maybe it's because it almost seems too all over the place? It goes from hoagies-salads-sandwiches-burgers-pizza-calzones-local specials. Or Maybe the way the menu is organized kind of makes it difficult to follow? I know it may sound silly, but having just a simple large two sided menu may make the ordering process go a little quicker, that flipping through a very illustrative 4 page book style menu. More focus on the delicious pizza! That should be at the front of the menu not the back! :) Also, I personally didn't have a good experience with a basic burger I had. (Lettuce tomato onion cheese) The meat tasted very gamey and almost spoiled. Only a quarter of the burger was eaten. When our waitress came to clear our plates/check on us, she saw that I had barely eaten my burger. She didn't ask if there was an issue, and almost walked away until I told her that my burger didn't taste right and I wanted to send the burger back. Her response..."Oh yeah, not very many people order burgers here." and she took my plate back. When I received my check, my burger was still on there, full price and all. Now I understand that just because something went wrong doesn't mean I'm entitled to a refund. But usually it's common practice to at least offer something to have instead...nothing. Im not sure if this waitress was almost done her shift and wanted to leave and get her tips in, but she didn't seem too worried about the issue. On a positive note! I have heard great thinks about this restaurant, and it did not disappoint. First off, check in. I received a free small salad with a pizza purchase. Not sure how long this promo is valid, but always worth a shot. The food was very good. We split our pizza between the House Special and the Holy Shiitake Mushroom. The overall flavor was great. The pizza we ordered was medium half Buffalo chicken and half Hawaiian. One slice filled each of us up. There was a few issues with the beer, our waitress had no idea what taps were replaced with touring beers. So, I've heard so many good things about this place, I wanted to check it out for myself. And I was little disappointing to experience it for myself. I went here for lunch at 1:30PM, it didn't look busy, I was greeted by a friendly server and I let him know that I will just sit at the bar. I sat at the bar waiting to be served, No one acknowledged me the bar, and bar back came by twice cleaning and picking up dirty dishes. I looked around and there was 1 patron to the right and and another couple sitting to the left, I saw the bartender cashing out a table for 6 guys sitting at one table, which wasn't a big deal but a good 20 minutes went by and he finally ask me if I wanted a menu, sat there for another 10 min then processed to ask if I wanted water, another 10 minutes went by dropped my water and I asked him if I can go ahead and place my order , took my order and just waited for my food. Approx 15 minutes food came out but by this time my lunch break was about to go over, so I ask for a box and my check. Box my food up and paid my bill. So service along rubbed me the wrong way, Still not sure if I would go back again. But with that said, once I got back to work I was finally able to just sit and enjoyed my food, I ordered a veggie calzone, and it was decent! I thought there was to much bread which I didn't mind cause it was fresh and flavorful but not enough fresh veggies and cheese! I certainly enjoyed what I ordered but wish I had time to enjoy it at the restaurant vs my work desk, so if it wasn't for the food then I would of just given it 1 star cause customer service was just bad. I LOVE this Mellow Mushroom! Now I will say, I haven't actually sat down in the restaturant so I can only speak from the experience of using the "To Go" option they offer-but I love the place! The service is always friendly and the food is always hot. It can take 15-20 minutes to make, so call BEFORE you leave the house if you live close. However, the wait is worth it because the food is delicious and hot and you know (or so it seems) that they made it specifically for your order. This place is CONSISTENTLY good!! Both service AND food. The staff here really are top notch. We have had several things here on several different occasions. Including lunch, happy hour, and pickup. If you like mushrooms and pizza you HAVE to try the Holy Shitake pizza. We recently took some pizza snobs from L.A. To try this pizza, and believe me, this took some convincing. Well after one slice they proclaimed this "one of the best pizzas they've eaten"!! Their burgers are very good as well. They rival any burger joint I've ever been to. Loved this place when we came in and sat down to eat a few months ago. Did NOT love it when I had it delivered through Uber recently. I ordered a veggie calzone - it's worth noting that I currently eat a largely vegetarian diet, and the only meat I consume is fish (in small amounts). My marinara sauce had a huge pepperoni in it and I didn't realize it until I'd eaten about half of it. This was so off-putting to me. Why would you put huge pepperoni slices in your marinara sauce?! The calzone also completely wrecked my stomach. It was the first thing I'd eaten that day, and after eating half of it I had horrible stomach pains and felt extremely nauseous. I had been eager to try Mellow Mushroom since moving here. The server we had was great! Very attentive and eager to answer any questions we had about the menu. I was surprised how great the cocktails were! The atmosphere was colorful and fun which added to the great experience. We got the pretzel bites for our appetizer and it was a different kind of pretzel, almost a wheat type, but it was really good. Both pizzas we ordered were really tasty. We got the smaller sizes which were the perfect size to eat and take home for a serving of leftovers. Then we ordered dessert which was plated very nicely. We went towards closing time so we left as soon as we were done, but I definitely plan to return, especially to relax and enjoy some drinks at the bar. I wanted to love this place on our recent trip to Clearwater, esp since they promoted vegan options on their menu, but our experience was extremely disappointing. Without going through all the details, here's what went wrong: 1) Restaurant was only about 25% full and we were seated at a high top table without being offered a choice...not the best choice for my father who is 80. 2) They had a Veggie pizza on the menu but with cow cheese. They offered Build Your Own options with choice of cheeses including vegan cheese. But when I wanted the Veggie pizza and simply swap vegan cheese for cow cheese was told there was a $3.00 up charge, which seemed extremely unfair given that they were the same price on BYO. 3) They coat the crust of the pizza with some sort of buttery goo that turned the crust into a greasy, dis-appetizing experience. 4) Food took f-o-r-e-v-e-r. And did I mention they were not busy? 5) Gnats continually flying around the table. 6) Ingredients sub-par and the pizza was just run of the mill low quality fast food. 7) Spoke with the manager to offer some constructive advice for future guests. She was extremely defensive and once she heard we were from out of town acted like she could care less. I haven't been to a Mellow Mushroom in many years. My wife and I dined here for dinner on the second night of our week long vacation. I'm going to start off with the food: GREAT! We had the meatball appetizer and a simple medium pepperoni pizza. Every bite was very good. The only thing that I had a problem with was the service. She visited our table maybe 4 times: 1- Take Drink order 2- deliver drinks take dinner order 3- check on food and being refill after we'd sat empty for approximately 10-15 minutes 4- take our card and bring back payment. I used to go here all the time - and the pizza is still good - but the service and other food has really gone downhill in a major way. We were a medium sized party. They seated us quickly and we ordered drinks. Then it all went downhill ;(.... The flat soda incident- After bringing us soda, drinks and taking our order we noticed the soda tasted off but not terrible. We were brought refills and this time we could tell the soda was flat. Before we could bring it to the waitress's attention she came back and told us her manager had told them the soda was flat and that we wouldn't be charged for them. That was fine and a good gesture by them for being proactive - so I compliment them for that. After this unfortunately the entire experience went downhill (see below). The case of the disappearing waitress- After bribing the flat soda to our attention the waitress offered to bring us other drinks. She said we should think about it. At this point I asked for some silverware. She said she would bring it right back and take our new drink orders - then she disappeared for like 20 minutes. Another server brought us our salad but we couldn't eat it without silverware. The server said she would tell our waitress to bring silverware- then it didn't come. They then brought our chicken wings (see below about that) and pizza. Still no silverware..... eventually we got a manager who brought us silverware and new drinks. The waitress eventually then came back to check on us but it was really too late at this point. Cold chicken wings- Since we didn't have silverware we started eating the chicken wings right when they were served but they were cold. We didn't have a waitress so couldn't complain. We did mention it to the manager but overall we didn't even care at this point. Conclusion - #WeakSauce - This place has good pizza and is fun but unfortunately the service has really deteriorated and the food other then the pizza was cold / just ok. Maybe it was just because we went on a Saturday night but we were there kinda early and it wasn't that slammed. Overall a frustrating experience and I wouldn't recommend for any kind of sit down meal or medium to large party - maybe just pizza to go - used to be better - a real shame! read more
