I have to admit, even though I'm vegan I grew up with NYC/New Jersey pizza. The type of pizza that makes your mouth water just thinking about it. The kind that would make me question being plant based. But I digress, I am no longer up north so I can't stare lovingly at the NJ pizza just testing my willpower.... Mellow mushroom, is by far the best pizza I've found down here and they have a kick ass vegan menu with staff that is knowledgeable about the lifestyle. Last night, Michael was craving pizza so we went here to grab some for him. I was the weirdo that got a salad, but they actually make very good salads For Michael; half shiitake pizza, (his favorite) other half: onions, mushrooms and steak (didn't care for it as much) I got the empowered salad; hold the feta, add tofu. I love that they put apples and dried cherries in the salad, it tastes so summery and fresh. I gave it 4 instead of 5 because, when I've visited in the past and gotten pizza; be it vegan or not, it just wasn't the same as NJ pizza and it is a bit on the expensive side for a pie. Had a great time here! Our server Megyn was super nice and helpful giving us recommendations and very descriptive when I asked her about the drinks. I had a Greadful dead and it was delicious! The perfect mix of strong yet yummy, it tasted similar to the red white and blue popscicles and came out a very Instagram-able ombré color. My fiancé ordered the Liquid Marijuana which came out a bright neon green and was quite strong as well. If you come here you absolutely need to get the spinach dip appetizer. The cheese in it is so gooey and melty and fresh! If you check in on yelp you get free pretzel bites! Those were delicious too! Super fresh and doughey with a spicy queso to dip them into. We got a half and half pizza of Pacific Rim which has pineapple, bacon and jalapeños and the Holy Shittake which has black truffle oil and garlic aoili swirl on it-do yourself a huge favor and get that at least the mushroom one! The cook who made the pizza cut one of the slices in half by mistake and my server said because of that they are going to cook us an entire small pizza on the house to take home! We stopped in here for dinner on the way to Clearwater for a show at the Capital Theater. Haven't been to a Mellow Mushroom in a few years. We had the free pretzel bites through a Yelp check in. I wouldn't call them pretzel bites but they were good and addicting. Very large portion. Easy for 2-3 people to share. My wife had a salad and the side of meatballs and she enjoyed both. I got a medium house pizza which is loaded. It was good. Not NY pizza but it isn't suppose to be. Still very good. Not my first choice for pizza but everything was very good. read more

I'm right in the middle on this one. Why? Because if I'm being honest the food is pretty mediocre. Yes, they have unique pizzas and calzones but the last few times I've been there, our pizza has been kind of limp/soggy but black on the bottom. My 2 favorite menu items are the mushroom soup and the spinach/artichoke dip. Now, the mushroom soup is VERY heavy. I can't handle a whole bowl in one sitting. The artichoke dip is probably the best I've ever tasted and the ONLY reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2. It's creamy, cheesy, thick, and decadent...also a heavy dish so beware. It's served with herbed & toasted baguette slices. Their main focus is definitely pizza but they also offer burgers and such, however to me that's like going to a steakhouse and asking for a grilled cheese sandwich. It's not like the pizza wherever the hell you grew up. If you got hankering for a large pepperoni, order one from a chain that shares your lack of culinary adventure. This place is exceptional because of the specialty pizzas and craft beers they have on tap. If you lack the bravery to try something outside of your usual, don't go here and then kill them in the reviews because it's not like the place where you always go. It might help if you understand that this is a chain restaurant started by college students who were disgruntled about remedies available for the munchies in their town. The result, some crazy hippie pizza. They use a whole grain crust that is, thick but airy with a nice chew. Their toppings are of exceptional quality and always fresh. It takes a while for them to make it but if you're in a hurry, I think there's a Little Ceasars close by. The Magical Mystery Tour is my personal favorite and I usually have them add grilled chicken. Again, if you pass over things like Holy Shitake, Thai Dye, Cosmic Karma, etc., because the pizza you always order has one topping on it, this prolly isn't gonna be your kinda place. Special notes: - The pretzels are NOT the frozen kind. They use a whole grain dough, like with the pizza crust, and they're awesome. They'll ask if you want some beer-cheese soup for dipping. Tell them, YES. - I've met people who like the sandwiches here so much they've never tried the pizza. I tried a bite of someone's salad once and it was awesome. What did disappoint and the reason for the 3 stars was for the deceptive description on their so called "pitcher of margaritas " for $30.00!!!! The picture on their website clearly shows a pitcher of margaritas and says it serves 2-3 people. What I received was a CUP of margarita with no ice. Which as it was explained to me is equal to a pitcher with ice. If your going to advertise a picture of a pitcher and describe it as a pitcher then that's what you should give the customer. Not a cup and sell it for 30.00!! Just so no one thinks I'm exaggerating here is a picture of the "pitcher" I got next to a bottle for perspective. This is deceptive and wrong. Everything else, food and customer service was spot on. My recommendation is don't order your drinks online. This new location just opened on March 3, 2014. This is a great spot just across from Clearwater Mall. If you haven't been to a Mellow Mushroom, this is a high-end pizza place with an interesting menu. Lots of healthy stuff on the menu, but lots of decadent pizza too! Our food was great, and the service was very attentive. We have only tried the pizza here, but there so many specialty pizzas it will take a while to try them all. The restaurant itself has been totally remodeled since its last incarnation as Pappas Ranch. The new decor is modern with a groovy 70s twist. Everything looks brand new. As a bonus, there is also a 125 year-old giant Camphor tree in front of the restaurant that you can visit. Cool place for a photo, and a great piece of Clearwater history. Visited Mellow Mushroom for lunch today. Such a cute restaurant! We ordered a large Holy Shiitake Pie which is apparently the house favorite. It has a garlic base, tons of mushrooms, caramelized onions, mozzarella and montamoré. The best part is the garlic aioli and black truffle oil drizzle. Now one of my top 10 favorite pizzas BUT the crust is to thick. I like topping not just bread. I would have given this pizza joint 5 stars but it is a bit pricy! $25 bucks for a large pizza with a little too much crust. read more

I love the pairing of great food and craft beer selection together. Great mushroom soup enough to share as it's kinda rich. Very friendly staff and they sure know their craft beers which helps if your new to the craft beer scene. They have a menu that offers a lot to everyone and lunch specials too. They always seem to have happy employees and of course that generally translates to an over and above the normal typical service you receive elsewhere. Service typical for fast casual, which means nothing to write home about since most young people only work in joints like this to put themselves through school. Would I go back? Yes, I probably would...if and ONLY if I were in the area. Otherwise Monty's is my go to place for pizza out. Went back in good faith with $25 gift certificate and it happened again with another solitary piece of bacon found on our pizza! I went home and became severely ill with gastric upset (2 other vegan family members of my party also became ill). Upon closer inspection of leftover pizza, I found apparent baked on mozzarella mixed in with vegan cheese. Additionally we had communicated to waiter that our party had a dairy allergy.
