I love Mellow Mushroom and am happy to say that this location is just as awesome as the other locations I've been to. It was easy to find (west ponce just before you get to commerce if heading into Decatur), easy to park, and I'm pretty sure because we got there right as they opened on a Saturday it was easy to get in, get seated, and enjoy some delicious pizza. When we arrived, I absolutely loved the decor and the vibe. There are plenty of tvs, a nice sized bar area, the bathrooms are clean, and seating area allows for small and large groups to just enjoy good pizza and have some fun. It was just fun and each staff member that we came in contact with was super kind and our server, Micah and Erin was absolutely amazing. They took wonderful care of our party of 7 (which include 4 kiddos) and made sure that we had everything that we needed. I ordered a medium pizza (8 slices) which was more than enough for myself and my two kiddos to enjoy a few slices while there and we had several slices to take home for later (which was a win). The pizza was hot, fresh, and while I added roasted tomatoes and applewood bacon on my half, the kiddos decided to not be adventurous and stuck with just cheese. We are so back. Checked out the "New" Mellow in Downtown Decatur. They recently reopened and I am glad they did. Hard for them to compete when there is a few pizza shops surrounding them but they held on and reopened! Not going to lie, I don't remember the interior of the old one but what they have now is bright and fun! It seems more upbeat and less quiet. We ordered a simple pepperoni pie on a Friday night and received it in about 20 mins. The employees were kind and helpful. The za was banging. They had the right amount of sauce, cheese, and love to the pizza. read more

I went here last night for the first time and really enjoyed myself. The parking lot is tiny, can maybe hold 20 cars or so but there's a parking garage directly across the street. We told the waiter it was our first time and he gave some suggestions. I ended up ordering the Southwestern chicken salad and the mighty meaty pizza. The salad was so DELICIOUS and the chicken was very flavorful and tender. The pizza was also very delicious and the crust had amazing flavor! The manager ended up coming to our table to introduce himself and thank us for coming in. Everyone was very nice, the place was very clean, and even the bathroom smelled amazing lol. I'm really disappointed with our experience at Mellow Mushroom. We came in for a sit-down dinner and waited an hour and 20 minutes before finding out that our pizza had not even been put in the oven yet. At no point were we warned up front that the kitchen was that backed up. After waiting all that time, we were told they prioritize online orders, which was incredibly frustrating as dine-in customers. If we had known the wait would be anywhere near that long, we never would have stayed. We ended up walking out because there was no reasonable expectation of getting our food anytime soon. I understand restaurants get busy, but not communicating that kind of delay to guests is unacceptable. This was a very poor dining experience and a complete waste of our evening. We went down the street to brainwave at inner voice brewery and got our pizza in 15 minutes later tasted great, give them a try!!! read more

First time ever eating Mellow Mushroom Pizza was years ago on my job. They ordered several for safety achievements and I remember the pizzas being on the table not hot kind of warm when we arrived to taste and eat the pizza. After a different time I ordered a pizza from the same location in Tucker GA the area my job is located in the pizza was okay. I grew up on Pizza Hut so the pizza I received didn't blow my socks off I felt it was nothing to write home about. After that experience I didn't go back to the location for pizza. I really wanted to see what was the hype about this place and was I missing something. I drove past the Decatur GA location and I remember it being packed all of the time. I saw that they recently closed for renovations and opened back up. I looked at the menu on Uber Eats and I saw The Holy Shitake pizza.. I like mushrooms on pizza they taste good to me delicious and they are good for your mood. The presentation of the pizza is spectacular and I got blue cheese with some garlic parmesan wings oven baked I think I saw that. This is night and day my experience from the previous location. I know that this is a Atlanta GA staple since 1974. I was skeptic about the restaurant pizza before this time. The flavor and the taste of this pizza is delicious. They truly made a believer out of me! Instead of getting a hand tossed crust pizza I got a thin crust pizza which I enjoy because to me you taste the toppings more and the crust is not just a lot of dough. My husband and I went here for a date night as mellow is one of my favorite spots. We were warned by our server that the kitchen was backed up and food would take a bit. We were okay with it at the time as I know it requires some patience to eat at mellow. Took about 30 min for appetizers to come out. After waiting for over an hour without our pizza coming out our server comes to tell us that our pizza hadn't even been put in the oven yet due to the back up of orders. We asked for the check and left hungry and frustrated. On the way out another employee advised us that it's because corporate prioritizes to go orders over dine in orders. This is super disappointing as I've been a Decatur resident for a decade and I've been here many times and was one of my favorite restaurants. I understand a business has to make money, but I've never heard of any restaurant de-prioritizing dine in customers. We left and went to brainwave pizza at innervoice brewing where we had a fresh pizza made in 15 minutes as walk ins. Unless you are coming for lunch or don't mind waiting hours for a pizza, pick another spot to go. It was easy to see that the other customers were in the restaurant were unhappy too and many were asking for their food or the checks. Lively, mellow mushroom atmosphere which I enjoy. Was in the house! I was greeted warmly and was served nicely at the bar. Unfortunately, what I ordered was not hot. I had the meatballs which comes with cheese sauce and basil flakes. It looks great but it's wasn't hot. I complained about it, but I was hungry and I was really supposed to have dinner at some Iberian pig place but couldn't find parking. Per you "make another plate" so I just ate that. And, the other four of us nothing!! Last straw was when they brought one more person their 10" pizza and it was burned!! This was our 2nd attempt to come here at this particular location. The 1st time was busy and they advised they aren't seating ppl. Okay cool. This time its a 30 minute wait. What's better than pizza on a Friday night? A business a partner and I dined at this location one Friday night and I must say it was a great experience. It was pretty jumping with families, teenagers and couples. Our waitress was awesome! She was very attentive, kind and made wonderful recommendations. Because of her, I tried the lavender mocktail which I LOVED and the mushroom soup which was pretty darn tasty as well. I also had a pepperoni pizza and brownie for dessert. The service was a tad slow, but our waitress was great at keeping us updated. And once we were done, the manager came and checked on us to see how our dining experience was. They had some vegan options on the menu that I must go back to try! I haven't been to Mellow Mushroom in a while and I sure am glad I dined there on that Friday night! read more

Much like my mom regards my brothers and I, I love all Mellow Mushrooms equally. However, not all of them can be star children. The Decatur Mellow is one such "average child." They don't seem to get much dine-in traffic, the Decatur High School service staff is pleasant but not super efficient, decor is only a tad eccentric, and the pizza came out in about 35 minutes despite us being the only ones in the restaurant. Regardless, Mellow Mushroom is still my favorite chain pizza place in Atlanta, and our BBQ Chicken pizza was fluffy and tasty as always. Generally speaking I do my best to rate a restaurant holistically, hence the four stars. Here's my breakdown. Ambiance: 5/5 - The Decatur Mellow Mushroom (and most Mellows, for that matter) has always offered a really great environment. The patio is fun and closed in, the interior is colorful and cutely decorated (with a tasteful view of the kitchen). Pizza: 5/5 - We got the BBQ chicken pizza and it was high quality. Mellow's crust is consistently the best, and this time didn't disappoint. You can tell the chicken and ingredients are high quality as well, so big 5 stars on that. Wait time: 3/5 - I get it, Mellow Mushroom is infamous for their long waits. We know. But when there are literally only three other tables in the restaurant a pizza should not take over 35 minutes to come out. I'm not sure what happened there, but it is a bit irritating. Service: 3/5 - Our server was just... a server. We were his only table, but he treated us like he had four other tables and somewhere to be in an hour. Everything was on time and he did the physical parts of his job well, but like... c'mon. A smile or at least some sort of engagement would have been nice. I'm a former server, and if I was that blah with a table I would have been fired. Anyways, that's that on that. Just went here again today, and the fire alarm went off causing multiple fire trucks ETC to come over and check it out, turns out nothing was wrong but it was really loud and scary and they made us go onto the porch. They were very apologetic about it even though it wasn't our servers fault, and they even gave us discounts! I just can't give it 5 stars because the incident was technically their fault. They knocked it out of the park with their gluten free pizzas! We get takeout from here often and have dined on the patio a couple of times. The gluten free crust is very crispy and delicious! The Enlightened Spinach Salad has a tasty mix of flavor as well with dried cherries, apples, house-made candied pecans and feta cheese. I love finding food that's healthy AND satisfying! My bf is not gluten free, and he loves the pretzel bites. One pizza literally didn't come, taking so long that we requested it to just be boxed up to go. Nobody ever got a refill. During these Covid times, we were hesitant to dine out but they had outside patio dining so we ate here for a late lunch on Friday afternoon. Sweet tea and Sprite to drink, they use paper straws. We order the 10ct sweet thai chili wings which were very good. They good have been a lil bit more crispy but overall very good. We got a medium half and half. Pepperoni for my son and like Supreme for me...6 slices total which are nice size slices. The pizza comes out piping hot and was very, very good Fresh ingredients and a pizza made with love. Mellow Mushroom has been around since I was a kid and I've had it many times over the years, but it had been a couple since the last time. A few days ago, hubs and I had a taste for wings but didn't want anything fried. I don't think I'd ever tried their wings before but hubs had, so he suggested picking some up from here. I'm glad we did! All of Mellow's wings are baked, which is a major plus when you don't have time to bake some yourself. Plus, they're double-baked, which makes them a little more crisp. I ordered the Cloud 9, which is 9 wings in garlic Parmesan sauce with "just a hint of heat" and garnished with grated aged Parmesan and chives. I'm not sure, but I think these may be a seasonal option. Husband ordered a 10-piece of jerk wings. We also had a small/10" cheese pizza. We had to place our order over the phone because we also had an ad for a discount that couldn't be used online, and that process was pretty rough. We actually tried calling three times the day before and no one ever answered the phone. We thought maybe they were just understaffed so that's why we tried a few times. We were even going to go ahead and order online and not worry about the ad, but even at 5 p.m. we were only given the option to place an order for the next day. When we called again the next day, the woman who answered the phone was going back and forth between taking my order and checking out a customer who was picking up. So, I literally had to repeat my order four times. She asked for it twice then finally put the phone down to finish up with the guy who was in the restaurant, then I had to repeat it two more times after that. She seemed new and like she was trying to juggle quite a bit at once on her own, so it was fine. But that whole process is the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars.
