Stopped in with a friend the Saturday before Mother's Day in hopes of beating the crowd and although we missed the Mother's Day rush, it was busy. I don't have any hard hitting news to share on this review really... if you've been to mellow mushroom, it was just a pretty classic visit. But I wanted to urge you to go before they wrap up the holiday drink menu. The "Dirty Cola" is delicious. I wasn't going to order it because I am not usually a fan of Diet Coke, but the vanilla flavor, along with the cold foam blocked out any "diet" taste to me and was a heavenly little treat! I also got a small pizza with just vegan cheese. The bartender recommended having it cooked well done, because if you know vegan cheese, you know how it gets all weird trying to melt. This helped solve that problem. Not completely, but it was a much better experience than just regularly cooking it. Mellow Mushroom is one of my family's staple restaurants to visit. Service is almost always spot on... except this visit. Upon being seated, our waiter took his time coming to the table. That seemed okay in the beginning, because I, myself, was indecisive about what I wanted to drink. It had been a good while since I had had a specific beer and I couldn't remember the name of it. Once the waiter came to the table, he too, didn't know the name. He NEVER admitted it, but I think he was new to Mellow Mushroom and was VERY timid/shy and soft-spoken . He did offer to go to the bar and ask about the beer I was looking for since he didn't know what it could've possibly been. I was looking for a light beer and what he brought back had ZERO alcohol... I guess that's a light as it gets. at least he tried! But, his speed never got any quicker. I'm not positive how many tables he was serving while my family was there, but I do know we were his only for at least 30 mins of his shift after he clocked in. The appetizer was delivered to the table just before the food was. Not sure if this was a kitchen thing or an unknowing waiter thing. It tasted perfect, so at least there's that. When the pizzas and calzones were delivered -- they were extremely hot! We had two toddlers at the table and there was no warning given about the temp of the food! I feel like this is a necessity given the fact that hangry kids (okay adults, too) want to rip right into their food upon arrival. The food was plentiful and delicious but seems to be increasing in price! One meatball hoagie was $15.99! Each drink was $2.99 for an 8oz glass --which is ALMOST ALWAYS nothing but ice! And... there was a surprise surcharge on the receipt... while it's only 37 cents... I don't think the public has ever been made aware of it. We all ordered a variety of Specialty Pizzas. I'll be the first to admit that I am not a pizza crust fan or eater. Call me a "weer dough" but I prefer a "edge to edge, no crust pizza". Sitting around on a Sunday afternoon we started to get hungry. My wife mentioned pizza because let's be honestly it's always a good time for pizza so we decided to try out the new Mellow that just opened up in the neighborhood. We ordered a large pie with half Mighty Meaty (for me) and half Holy Shiitake (for her). Yes I know not sure how we make it work with that different of pizzas but we do. I also was craving wings so I when with 10 wings 5 hot and 5 teriyaki. I arrived and my food was ready to go. Once home we got into our pizza and it looked and tasted great. It was perfectly spit so no worries for the picky eaters. I then got into the wings and this is where the disappointment came in. They are adverted on the website/menu as "Crisp double-baked wings". To start off there was nothing crisp about any of them. On top of that you could barely taste the sauce on either of the two flavors I picked. The hot was the furthest from that. It had no heat whatsoever. Either I was given mild sauce or just a drop of hot added to the 5 wings. The teriyaki was the same way with little sauce flavor but at least there was some sweetness so you could taste something there. So just a heads up maybe stay away from the wings and stick with the pizza. It has never disappointed me before. read more
