I Started a yelp just for this review. I feel everyone should know before going here. Many places use Covid as an excuse for slow service. The food was ok not worth what they are charging for it. Biggest issue The reason I'm going out of my way to leave this review is because the server acted as if we were not even there. Had to keep reminding her for everything. When she went to the bartender she made a comment loudly about us being needy and it was clear they were mocking us. This is very unprofessional and should not be tolerated This place is operated by kids just having fun at the customers expense. This place is pretty rad. I come a few times a month and I'm always in love with the food. The tortilla soup is to die for, though I may just be biased. However, it is on a weekly rotation and I miss it every time; that's my only complaint. The beer options are pretty great, one of the only spots I go to check out local beers. The worse restaurant I have been at in Hickory so far. The bartender poured two wrong drinks for me and was very loud. She seemed like she was more interested in hanging out with the people across the bar. The food was fine until we discovered half the pizza crust was burned. I happen to be in Hickory for a funeral from Charlotte we stopped for lunch before the service. I love mellow mushroom their house calzone is what I always get. This time I ordered the pretzel bites comes with beer cheese an marinara. They were good an glad I ordered them it took over 30 mins for our food an they were not busy!! My dad ordered a simple turkey sandwich n of course I had the house calzone. My dad was getting very irritated we needed to be with our family by now ughh It was not the waiters fault . Our food came finally I had a few bites an we had to go. My calzone was disappointing , normally the dough rises an its huge not this time. My calzone was Flat the dough didnt rise. Thank goodness if you checked in on Yelp the pretzel bites were free. The waiter told us being the food took to long they took 5 off our bill. This Mellow Mushroom needs some help. The person who delivered the pizza says the delay was because the name on the order was the name on credit card. Their ordering system asks you to put a name in which I did as Brad. We visited this location this afternoon. There was a minor issue with our pizza. The management addressed it immediately and the owner came to apologize for the issue. It has been quite some time since attention like this has been given at a restaurant. We have experienced "COVID" as an excuse for poor customer service. This act of ownership and responsibility was a breath of fresh air and was greatly appreciated. Mistakes happen and we can be very patient during these times. The food was good, but at lunch time on a Friday the music was so loud it was hard to hear yourself think. I sent my beer back but they had explained that they just cleared the lines in the keg. Left hungry, thirsty and sad - my order was wrong, there was no beer on tap because the CO2 was broke (the bottle selection was terrible), and my wait for an incorrect order (got a small after ordering a large) was well over an hour. It also took over 10 minutes just to have someone wait on us. Was told they were making the large for me, and I would be given the small for free - great idea - but when it was time to go, turns out that was wrong and no pizza was being made. The restaurant was empty and there were only 5 people including myself sitting at the large 30 plus barstools bar .The bar tender was so busy with her own story that she provided no assistance on my beer selection .. as a matter of fact , she didn't even know the local Brewery that brewed the beer I asked about . She paid no attention to when I needed anything I had to wait for a take out box and then she preceded to call me honey as she laid the check down . She continually chatted w a lady at the end of the bar and was completely negligent to me and the other two men at the bar . I sat for two hours had a pizza and two beers for lunch and there were 16 six packs of beer that had obviously been sitting on top of the coolers for quite some time when I got there .. they had a slight glimpse of wilted chill on every bottle . They sat until they were warm as she did not restock or seem to do anything but talk while I was there . She served food to three people at the bar .. myself Included . And preceded to tell them she was on painkillers and then she began limping around behind the bar . As I was paying my bill she told the lady ... at the end of the bar .. I guess I can put these back ... referring to the previously chilled .. now warm beer "back into the cooler .Not sure why The Mellow Mushroom In Hickory has such a lack of attention to the service they r providing ! This is average food set in Scooby Doo land. But a great beer menu! The speciality pizza menu is good size but toppings are not as good as they look. Maybe not as fresh, maybe not as much seasoning, but I hoped for better. We had a large party on a Wednesday. Starting with garlic butter pretzels, pass on these. They are dry and made from pizza dough, the sauce needs help. Two people got calzones, the chicken was better than steak, and both were as large as a dinner plate! This maybe best place to look for food. The funky Q chicken was interesting, but not anything to go out of way for. Option two was building own with red sauce was limited by the sauce. A more little flavor would be nice and very much needed. The cheese was decent but even with extra cheese, the cost wasn't worth it. The service started well but quickly faded. I've had the Holy Shittake pizza here a couple of times now and it has been good every time. I have never tried the sandwhixhes here but I have heard great things about them. Love this Mellow! Really, I love any mellow mushroom! Our server was so sweet! We were taking so much that it took a while for us to decide our orders. She never was impatient and I even told her it was someone at our tables birthday, and at the end of the meal, she brought some ice cream and spoons for all of us. Terrible experience, extreme lack of service and hospitality. Very disappointing! We arrive at approximately 1220pm on Sunday July 8th, to a not so busy restaurant. We were told that their was however a 20min wait to be seated outside. This was not a problem, but should have been the precursor to what was to come. Waited 45min and we were finally seated. We all say down, a table of 5, and once again waited another 20min to even be greeted by our waitress, Madi. When she arrived she asked to take our drink order and we decided to help out and place our lunch order as we were already prepared to do so. Order was placed and after yet after 25 min had still not received so much as our drinks. One of us went inside to request our waitress as she had not returned, and left us sitting basically with nothing. She came out with our drinks, and apologized stating she was "dealing with something." Here's the kicker, she also stated she had "just put in your food order"!! After over an hour and a half we just received our drinks and were told our food order was just put in! Combined with the fact that we had only seen our waitress twice now!!! Total lack of service, and hospitality, not to mention a complete waste of our time. Needless to say we picked up, and informed her we were leaving. . . The service and food was great. My pizza was delicious and better than what I expected. The salad was fresh. The atmosphere was nice. I went there on a Sunday a little after they opened. Mellow Mushroom is a favorite of mine any city I go to. This one in Hickory has always been good for me. I've been several times, and am not disappointed. At times the service can be slow, but the wait staff are always friendly. I do appreciate the open kitchen and open floor plan. We were looking for a place to eat and the reviews were pretty good so we decided to try this place. Right off the bat, the place has a fun vibe to it. Our waitress, Sarah, was welcoming and extremely friendly. She had no problem answering our questions of items on the menu and giving suggestions. We waited a little bit for our food, but it was so worth it. Our pizzas came out and looked amazing. Once we took our first bites we could not get over how amazing the pizza was. Our pizzas were hot and tasted really good and fresh. The crust is amazing. It is a thin crust base and a thicker crust at the top. The crust was chewy, soft, and had a great flavor. Ask for extra garlic butter to dip it in. Trust me that is one of the best parts. The restaurant is very clean as are the bathrooms. This is a little higher priced for a pizza place depending on what you get, but for us it was very worth it. We are already talking about returning. read more
