Was here for a family dinner. The pizzas are so over-priced. Ingredients are OK, not great. Pepperonis are sliced super thin so get crispy on the baked pizza. If that's your thing then pay a premium for it here. The best part - the kids slinging pizzas don't understand health code. One of them had a grey beanie and was quite pleased with himself that he could sling a pizza like a pro. After he finished slinging one dough that he almost dropped he adjusted his beanie and tucked his hair back under it. Was not wearing gloves so didn't have them to change. Did not wash his hands after touching his hair. I found a manager and shared the issue and I think they threw away the pizza. I also told the manager the kid was not make any of our pizzas. Service was very good - attentive but not overly. Quick to refill drinks or bring requested items. One star because handling your hair then food is a complete deal breaker. read more

I love a good pizza, and while visiting my brother and sister in law, they took me to Mellow Mushroom in McKinney for dinner. When we walked in, we were sat immediately. The vibe of the place is pretty weird and unique for a pizzeria and, according to my sister in law, clearly has a stoner energy to it. If the food clears, I am all game for any aesthetic. My brother ordered two beers on draft while my sister in law got a spiked version of one of their lemonades and a frozen sangria. They liked all of their drinks. The tap list is quite extensive, which is always a good thing for a bar located in the middle of downtown McKinney. Our waiter was attentive throughout the visit. He consistently stopped by to refill my water and grab any new drinks when needed. We ordered the Cheese Bread from their Munchies menu. It did not take long to come out, but unfortunately it was very disappointing. The appetizer was exactly what it advertised, cheese and bread, but there was no real seasoning to speak of. No pepper, no garlic, nothing. It tasted flat and bland, and not even the side of marinara could save it. It was a letdown. On the opposite side of the spectrum, we ordered two pizzas, the Super Pepp and the Buffalo Chicken with a ranch swirl. The Super Pepp gets its name from being a pepperoni pizza with peppers, along with blobs of ricotta cheese and hot honey on top. It was fantastic. The crust was crisp and the overall flavor was well balanced. The Buffalo Chicken was also pretty good. I was expecting it to be a little spicier, but it was not, and I was fine with that. The chicken was solid, and this pizza was also well balanced. The pizzas are priced higher than your typical option, but they do a unique enough job that it feels somewhat fair. It would not be my first choice, but they did not steer me wrong either, especially with the Super Pepp, which was genuinely impressive. Just do not order the cheese bread. The pizza place we wanted had an hour and a half wait. MM had no wait, there was a reason. Pizza was ok but it was really not better than domino's, 2x as much and not hotter. We got an artichoke dip and it was ok but it came with 10 small pieces of toasted bread (soggy) when we asked for more they charged us $3 more for 10 more prices. Charged $3 for ranch dip. Serive was ok, asked for a to go drink 3 times and finally gave up. My second time in15 years, likely will be a other 15. read more

Arrived after the dinner rush on a Saturday night. We were seated immediately. Ordered a medium Buffalo Chicken pizza with ranch & bleu cheese on the side and a medium philosopher with added black olives and mushrooms on half. Restaurant is echo'y so even half full, the dining area is loud. Server was attentive, but questioned every request we had (silverware, lid for ranch, switching from sweet tea to Coke). Our table was not clean with previous diners' parm was still dusting the table. We wanted to have pizza for Easter dinner but Hideaway was closed. Mellow Mushroom to the rescue!! I'm not one for crowds, but I can tolerate them. I was more than happy to see that we were picking up dinner downtown since my favorite time to be downtown is when it's quiet. The cherry on top is the perfect spring afternoon weather. We parked a bit earlier than our pickup time so we walked around the block and came back to our piping hot order of a large House Special (with original crust) and a lil' (small) enlightened spinach salad. The crust is one of the best I've had. It has so much chew and is almost like a bonus serving of breadstick. So glad we had the side of ride sauce to dip it in because it's a nice and thick crust. I'm usually skeptical of my salad orders at pizza joints. But this one was perfect! The spinach was fresh and clean. Not a wilted or dirty leaf, completely stuffed full into the to-go container. The candied walnuts weren't overly sweet and everything was well balanced. Glad I went with the lighter champagne apple vinaigrette! All of the seating out front was taken. A great sign of what was to come. The server who was running back and forth also held the door for us but we were waiting outside for my husband to return with our order. I've heard great things about Mellow Mushroom, and finally stopped by. The interior has a lot of cool art, and is very colorful which is nice. The menu has a good mix of pizza, sandwiches, apps, and salads. I ordered the Greek salad with no olives. The salad was mediocre. The salad came out with olives even though I asked for them to be removed. The veggies were not mixed together, each part of the salad was sectioned off and the bowl was so small there was no way to mix the salad. Lastly the amount of dressing they gave me wasn't enough. My wife ordered the meatball sub. She said it was ok, not bad, but not something she would order again. My 2 year old daughter had to order from the main menu because they do not have a kids menu. She ordered the cheeseburger with tots. She seemed to like the burger, but not the tots. We also had a small order of wings just to try them. They were mediocre. The beer menu doesn't have many local IPAs. Luckily they had Tupps Juice Pack IPA which is always good. When it came time to grab the check, our waiter was nowhere to be found, for at least 15 mins. I even stood up and looked around for him. We had to ask a lady that was cleaning up a table to find him. He quickly came out after that. Overall, everything was just ok at best. read more

I enjoyed this!! I didn't actually dine in, but I did place a pickup order to eat it at a winery down the street. I got my go-to, the holy shiitake pie. I love the mix of flavors, but the two highlights are the aioli swirl on top and the crust. The crust is amazing.....with the little bits of parm. So yummy! Our server here was the happiest woman I have ever met, if I ever go back I will get her name and update it here because she deserves a shout out. We started off with a spinach salad and bruschetta for appetizers and got 2 medium pizzas for dinner. All of the food was fantastic and came out pretty quickly as far as hand tossed pizza goes. My one recommendation is to get a large pizza if your favorite part of the pizza is crust, maybe it's just me but I think the large pizza has a better crust than the mediums. The restaurant has very cool atmosphere, and there are plenty of seating options, lots of people like to eat at the full service bar, but we chose a booth. After the pizza it's also a great location to walk around downtown McKinney! Will definitely be back! read more

Since being in TX, my family and I have been hunting for good quality pizza, and this place certainly delivered -- very rich in flavor and great portion sizes. We also had some of the wings, which were soooo good! My only complaint was the Caesar salad, which wasn't good at all (and sadly, I was sitting for a while at the counter before our waiter brought it to us). The vibe is cool but not enough to justify the overly priced terrible food. We got 5 boneless wings, 5 bone‑in wings, a meatball sub, and a build your own pizza. The 5 boneless for $8 were incredibly tiny, tasted frozen, had no flavor. My bone‑in wings $8.50) were so overcooked I had to open them up and use my knife to scrape the chicken off. My date's meatball sub was so bad. He took a meatball out and actually tapped it on the plate. It made a sound like a rock on porcelain. When we ordered we asked the waitress which was better, their calzones or their pizza. She said pizza hands down. So I got excited and ordered a build your own pizza. Medium starts at $14 and then $3 for every topping. I got seasoned ricotta, honey ham, caramelized onion, spinach, and the mushroom trio. I order a side of vodka sauce and a side of creamy pesto. The pizza was so unbelievably bland. There was NO flavor. The "seasoned" ricotta alone should've at least had some taste. None of the toppings had flavor. I asked for salt hoping it would save the pizza... it did not. I poured the vodka and pesto sauce ($1.50each) hoping it would help but they were just as bland as the watery red sauce. When the waitress came and asked if I wanted a to‑go box I said yes I suppose but I have to say your kitchen really missed the mark. We explained out different wing issues, my date showed her his sandwich, and I told her about how bad the pizza was. She came back with our checks. They had taken the meatball sub off and my wings off which I guess is a nice gesture. I assume the waitress had to explain our issue to the manager and showed them the rock hard meatball to get it off the bill. The meatballs alone should've warranted a visit from the manager. But we told the waitress all four items we ordered were awful. That complaint ABSOLUTELY should've signaled a manager to come over. I ended up taking the pizza on shear principle. It was a $30 pizza!!!! There's no saving it, it's trash. But it's trash I paid for! Also, side note, they have 15 something beers on draft, and more bottled/canned options, but no non‑alcoholic beers. Thats more annoying on a personal level. But still, everywhere has at least Heineken 0.0. Look- I'm not a review type of person. I only leave one when it's exceptionally bad or unbelievably wonderful. Don't bother with this place unless you want to throw away $75 for two-- for absolutely no reason. If you want pizza in McKinney Square... go to Cadillac Pizza!! The only reason we didn't go back there was because we wanted to try a place that's vibe was cool. Our mistake. read more

My brother and I are originally from Georgia, so visiting the four Mellow Mushrooms of the DFW metropolitan area was a mission we were eager to complete. McKinney was the second Mellow on our list. Discounting the beautiful downtown and pleasant feel that is McKinney, TX, we also really enjoyed their Mellow Mushroom! It was a bit of a strange interior layout, but the decor was nice and the vibes were great. Our server as a quick, effective, down-to-earth girl who had our pizza to us in no time. Had to check out this place after looking at the menu seeing the unique pies! Ordered the spinach artichoke dip to start cause why not and it was a great start to the meal. Decided to split a pie between the Holy Shiitake and the Funky Q Chicken. There was a mix up and they brought out a small instead of a medium but quickly corrected and we got to take the medium home for free! The BBQ chicken and good but the Holy Shiitake stole the show. A true mushroom lovers slice with umami in all the best ways. Loved the crust and high quality cheese. Our server was amazing and the vibes were funky eclectic cool. My family and I have been here a few times and fell in love with the Cloud9 Wings!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG! We LOVE them! On Friday night, we did takeout: 3 small Mighty Meaty pizzas and 1 small Merry Prankster pizza and 4 Cloud9 wings = each of us got our own pizza and own order of wings and ate on them over the course of a few days or so. Everything was DELICIOUS!!! I would have taken away 1 star for a "minor situation", but Matt, the GM, resolved it though --- Thanks, Matt! However, it took too many calls over the course of 3 days to finally get to the right person to do so --- and no one really answers the phone. I realize it gets busy but... Mellow Mushroom McKinney is Mellow #5 on my journey to rate all the world's Mellow Mushrooms and #2 of 4 of the DFW Mellows. So far it's the best Mellow in DFW! No idea why they have a 3.5 review but that certainly wasn't my experience. The location is one of the best I've ever seen from a Mellow Mushroom, right off the beautiful McKinney square. The service was as friendly as ever, and seemed to consist of a nice mix of high schoolers and folks convicted of petty drug crimes. The pizza and décor was up to par as well, perhaps even better than your average Mellow. More importantly, McKinney's Mellow Mushroom blew Arlington's Mellow Mushroom out of the water. Arlington's had a rather rundown, non-vibrant quality whereas McKinney's seemed like the place to be. I haven't eaten at the Mellows in Denton and Fort Worth but so far McKinney is winning the race to become the best Mellow in DFW. read more

It's been about 6 weeks since we've stopped in for pizza. We've been coming in since this location opened to get a pizza and some pretzels, one of my favorite items on the menu. Well... new menu tonight. Apparently it debuted about three weeks ago. The pretzels have been taken off the menu. They still have the pretzel bites but nothing will replace the pretzels. We have been going here, every week for the past 2 years. Casey the bartender and the other bartenders are plain awesome, Diego the manager can not be more professional and wonderful but this Saturday we had the shock of meeting the Owner, as we arrived. If he was the first person behind the counter. Had we encountered him our first time going there, I'd never go again!!! He was abrupt, didn't bother to ask if we were regular patrons but instead told me " We don't self seat here" when I attempted to tell him we wanted the last empty table for 6" We just moved here from New York, in NY, I would have responded more emotionally directly but I politely held back for the sake of the wonderful people that work there. He should know that owning a business takes people skills!! He is not special, we own businesses too and are very aware that PEOPLE provide our success. I can understand now why the perks have been slowly taken away. Be nice and treat patrons with respect and give them the benefit of the doubt, because THEY are supporting your success .
