Amazing place to go for lunch or dinner. Whether it's for their great food or just to hang out for a few drinks, the ambiance is one for singles, couples, and families. Yes, it does take a while for your order to get ready, because it is not the stupid soggy pizza crust that you get at Pizza Hut and everywhere else It is the proper crust that is baked on stone!! If I could give it 0 stars I would. I'll start with the fact that our waitress was not only not attentive but simply put seemed annoyed that we were there. No silverware brought out until we asked. Three little kids with us and she brought their drinks out in large adult cups and when we asked for kids cups she brought them to us empty and expected us to pour the drinks into their cups. Appetizer came out burnt, food took forever to come out and never even got refills on our drinks at any point during the meal. Not only was this a bad dining experience, it was the worst I have ever experienced in any dining establishment. When we spoke to the manager regarding the situation she did not seem to care and simply took our credit cards and processed them to pay the bill. I guess I'm just weird. I'm not a fan. My aunt loves it... to me it's just overpriced normal pizza. The crust has nice flavor, and isn't too thick or too thin. The toppings are unique and vary quite a bit, but the cheese is too thick, and they don't put enough toppings for what you are paying. Especially on the pepperoni. read more

I can not Express how impressed I am with Mellow Mushroom on Louisiana in McKinney TX. Coming in within one minute I am greeted with a sweet southern smile and a hello. He asked how many and both or table preference. Getting seated within a minute our server was there to get our drinks. I went to the bathroom, OH MY GOODNESS!!!! It was SO CLEAN! You could see the marks on the wall all the way to the ceiling of it being wiped down. I look in places to see how clean they are. I searched everywhere. I even asked how long they had been open. Over three years and it was THAT CLEAN. The whole environment was really trendy and clean. No excuse for POOR service, not even good food...In my opinion, poor service is direct reflection on the management. Last night my 18 yr old daughter and her 18 yr old friend brought her 14 and 12 yr old sisters, in for pizza. They are articulate young women, they are respectful and understand how to tip appropriately. Their server took their order for appetizer and pizza, brought their beverages and 30 minutes later they had to go to the hostess to ask her to check on their food because their server was not to be found. Their appetizer was dropped by another server and when they asked for refills she told them, with a roll of her eyes, that she would have to tell their server. Their server showed up and they ask about their pizza, 30 min later it arrived. The girls had to go to him and ask for the check, 3 times. Good beer selection, food was descent. A bit slow on service but I think they had challenges with their equipment. Down side of our visit, food prep guy kept touching his hair and wiping his face with his tshirt near his armpit area and would not do anything sanitary afterwards. We love Mellow Mushroom, but this was a terrible expirence. We ordered an apatizer and it came when we were done eating our food.. also, we had to ask for straws, silverware, napkins, plates. We also had a 7 year old with us and she brought her lemonade in an adult cup. (We ALSO asked for a kids cup) as we were waiting for about 30 mins for our ticket we finally had to ask another waitress to bring us our ticket and ANOTHER waitress for boxes. When we waited longer in the booth we over heard a girl with a long pony tail yelling at another hostess like he was a dog.. it was terrible. Bar staff need some training on customer service...one of the bartenders is slow to serve customers and gets distracted with personal conversations, also serves customers out of the order that they arrive at the bar. Must've been an off night last time I went. Usually decent. The pizza is always good, but customer service needs some serious work.. I went in and waited at the host stand for about 5 minutes with plenty of staff walking around looking right at me without any kind of acknowledgment (slow night too), before just deciding to take a seat at the bar. Two of the staff were right in front of me and bartender had been playing with his earring before making another drink, no hand washing was involved in between. So I waited at least another 5 minutes just for a greeting and a menu. Not a very friendly gentleman was the host/manager I'm guessing; he gave some attitude to a family that came and sat down next to me after asking how he could help them and the father said "Yes, we would like to order some food and drinks". I probably had the worst service of all time here and I'm actually really offended. First I call multiple times just to get an answer, I had got a gift card from this terrible establishment I'd rather sell it to Kroger. I then finally get an answer, and when I call. I give them my order very thoroughly and they read it back to me so I know that they knew my order. I get there and my order is so wrong. My correct order is a large specialty pizza 1/2 kosmic karma add sausage and remove sundried red tomatoes and half mellowterranean with light roasted red pepper .I made adjustments on each side. What I receive was a half karma and the other side is just cheese... Just cheese and red sauce. I also asked for spinach dip w/ hot sauce & jalapeño mixed in and cooked in. I got the add ons on the side unfortunately. What was sad was that the person on the phone even asked if I wanted it mixed in. I will add I got an order of pretzel bites and that came out okay, but let's be honest... How could you mess that up? I will say it is my fault that I didn't open the box when the gentleman handed it to me and that was my mistake, and didn't review the receipt. To see it was rang up completely wrong. I will leave you with this. During the call the guy seemed really cool so I asked for his name.. he said his name was rick. I came all the way from Waco to see my friend who knows a few people from the establishment, and she tells me no one named Rick even works there. Things started off right at first. We were sat down quickly, ordered, and food came out within 20 minutes (pizza and artichoke dip). We ate and within another 20 minutes we were looking to start to pay as we had to make it to downtown Dallas for the Mavericks game. Our waitress had disappeared for a good ten minutes, so we took that time to potty before our long drive with traffic from Mckinney to Dallas. I had a gift card that I purchased from a discount gift card site and was trying to use that. I come back from the restroom to find the manager at my table asking me in an accusatory tone of where did I get my gift card, or did I have the original email because there has been a lot of fraudulent gift cards going to OTHER (not necessarily theirs) mellow mushroom establishments and to combat the fraud, they put a special stamp or something to show it was legit. So im like, um, ok, let me see if I can find the email of the site sending me the gift card that I printed off. So I am looking through my phone and of course trying to hurry to get to my game, I can't find the email, but I was able to log into the site that I purchased the card from to show that I did purchase that gift card from their site. I also checked the gift card balance on the MELLOW MUSHROOM site the night before and took a picture of it showing the balance on the gift card. I showed her that pic and she was like, well we still had some gift cards go through and the balance was zero. Like that doesn't make any sense, you see the card number on the gift card is the same as the one in the picture showing you a 25 balance, on YOUR site and you still refuse to take it. So then she goes, let me TEXT, not CALL, but TEXT my boss or whoever and see what to do. At this time, I had already wasted 15 minutes talking to her and 10 minutes waiting for the waitress to even bring the check, so im like, I don't have time for this I need to get to my game and its 5pm in Dallas, on a Friday so traffic is going to be bad. So im like I need to go, here is my credit card just split our bill. The manager then goes to say something like, yea next time you are here we will figure this out or something to that extent. Um no ma'am, there is no next time, not when one you didn't take my name and number to help me with the situation. You just said, oh we put a special mark on the gift cards now. Did not say when this started happening or anything, what if I had my gift card before you started this, is it not valid because I didn't use it before you started your special csi stamping? Also, if you see the balance on the site using YOUR balance checker, why not go with that? like whats the point in checking a balance if it could be incorrect? So now I had to PAY not only for my half of the food split with a friend (which I don't mind, we pay more than $20 a meal the majority of the time), but im also out of $20 for the gift card that she didn't help me clear up. Do she honestly think I will return to that place to have her and a few other staffers stand around my table talking to me as if im a fraud, again? hell no. I mean the food was good, and if this experience was nice, it could have been a spot that granted is out of my way, it would have been something I would go to with my boys and we like to go out at least once a week. but I will make sure to let them know to not go to any mellow mushroom establishments. My 13-year old daughter and 12 of her friends just had lunch at the McKinney location and I cannot tell you how well Tyler took care of them. My daughter got in the car and gushed about how he was so kind, split up the check for all 13 kiddos (most of them shared so it wasn't your normal splitting) & worked so hard waiting on them. There was not one adult with them in the restaurant and I am sure he was concerned about how they were going to act or if he was even going to get tipped. It's obvious he cared more about excellent customer service!!! He is a gem and this momma is grateful for him, the manager who trained him and company who hired him! I have been to three Mellow Mushroom. This location, Frisco, and Denton. This one is hands down better than Denton, but it was very different from Frisco in both service and product. The pizza crust here seemed extra thick compared to Frisco. I am not a fan of super thick crust. Wow! Great pizza designs but their gluten-free pizza is like $6 more?! Go to Sicily's where it is $0.70 more (because it has to be cooked in an oven where gluten pizzas are not cooked). Nice beer selection but the prices are super-premium. Couple that with the mediocre service and it simply isn't worth the money!! Morgan was our waitress and she was very silly and cute! We enjoyed her. Although, there were two people with work shirts on behind the bar drinking, on the clock. They were rude, and I over heard them talking about employees that work for them and how "bad" they were. When I asked for corporates number she kept questioning me and refused to give it to me. I think mellow mushroom serves the best pizzas. We had one in Flower Mound but this place has since closed. So, after my daughter's soccer practice, we stopped at this location (McKinney). Our server was Cheyenne. She was great!!! Best service we have ever had at a mellow mushroom. We ordered a holy shiitake half with a mighty meaty. Very tasty! My daughter ordered a burger which was juicy and tender. Be sure to order the bruschetta. Everything was delicious!!! read more

I have only been to this restaurant twice. Tonight's service was horrible. The waiter wasn't attentive to his tables. My salad was just a bowl on spinach leaves...literally. I sent it back for something else. And finally got a manager involved because our waiter would walk by us and not acknowledge us. I RARELY (never???) give 5-stars, but this place earned it for the bartenders. We originally were going to go to another place in town but, with a 2 1/2 hour waiting list, were not in love with the food THAT much. We started walking and lucked onto MM. We were familiar with them because Rockwall once had a Mellow Mushroom that we frequented routinely. McKinney's is the standard good pies (including gluten free and vegan), fresh salads, a healthy beer menu, and some tasty cocktails. The bartenders, though, were out-of-this-world. They were serving us like we were the only ones there, instead of the packed restaurant that it was. (No one was neglected, because they were treating everyone this way.) When they had to leave to fulfill drink requests or see to other bar patrons, they would return to the conversation like ten minutes had not gone by. They were knowledgable about their drinks (even knew a few esoteric cocktails I requested), had us in stitches, and turned a bummer of an evening into one we totally enjoyed. read more

Went with our grand-daughter. Have been here twice before. Had garlic bread and a large pepperoni pizza. Both were very good. Jacob, our waiter, was very attentive. But when the food arrived no one brought any silverware. Wife had to go find someone who could bring it. Same thing happened to another table close to us. Always happy to try new places downtown, seeing how I run a restaurant right down the street. Service was weird. Like ordered waters and one tea and they didn't get that right. We seemed to have been passed off to someone else. Not sure if hostess is lazy or ordered to stand At the front, watching. They seemed to be weeded but there weren't too many tables. Ordered beers through someone else and they sat for a looonnngggg time at the bar, came out flat. NO MANAGER in sight. Apparently the cameras were watching.
