Great spot for food and drinks during the day and late night dining. I want to point out that this is probably the best place I have been to for late night dining and reverse happy hour 10pm-close; 1/2 price most all their drinks and food. Sadly its not really advertised anywhere and most likely why people don't know about it. I came in late at night, there was background music, TV's playing sports and other entertaining channels and the floor (actual floor and tables and amenities were all very clean and set properly). I actually felt bad for Mellow Mushroom that it was so dead when I had arrived (10pm on a Tuesday) because its a great place and it was pretty dead inside. The bartender was on point with mixed drinks and poured beers very well (as in no foamy head). The only thing I would suggest to management is to adjust the recipe for the cheese that comes with the bread/garlic knots, (I don't remember the exact name but the little pretzel like dough buns, which tasted great especially for less than $4 during reverse happy hour.) the cheese is too runny and drips everywhere (the table and my shirt, with every dip) after dipping the little cloud of deliciousness into the cheese and trying to eat it. Waitress was nice, but for a $30 pizza you'd think there would be toppings. The pizza was 80% dough - almost zero sauce and toppings. Not sure if it was a mistake or a reach for profit margin (likely cost less than $10 to make). It was extremely dry and when we voiced our disappointment it seemed to be somewhat brushed off. We were already mid meal when we heard the obnoxious sound and realized that this employee was actually walking around the restaurant zapping bugs!!! Went there for breakfast and our server and the manager was very attentive. We both got biscuits and gravy (I picked the green chile) and we were both very happy with our meals. We also ordered a single French toast and the manager waived the side charge. That is possibly the best French toast I have ever encountered! I recently discovered this place with some friends and I've been going back regularly since! The staff here is super friendly and really makes you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. The decor is very intriguing and different and just really catches the eye too. I've only gotten a handful of things from here such as their calzones and specifically their holy shiitake pizza. I have to say I never thought I'd order a pizza that wasn't filled with meat but I can't stop ordering that holy shiitake pizza. The food comes out quickly and is hot and delicious. The crust on the pizza has a bit of flavor and parmesan cheese on it. It's the perfect soft yet pleasantly chewy crust that you can't help but enjoy. The pizza itself is a garlic sauce base and it really has a nice kick for a base. The pizza itself has a variety of mushrooms, caramelized onions and some cheese of course. It even has a delicious drizzle of garlic aoili! Seems rather simple when you look at it but oh man does this pizza pack a punch when it comes to flavor. This is one of my favorite Mellow Mushroom locations! The service is always really good (as soon as we finished a beer the waitresses would be there to ask if we needed anything else), and it's never crazy busy so you can usually get a good spot at the bar or somewhere at a table with a good view of the TVs. A lot of times I just drink here, because they have such a great beer menu (lots of cool IPAs to choose from and they're new every time I go), but last time we got the Great White pizza and mild/jerk wings. All of it was delicious! Definitely going to continue coming here on football Sundays. We also got the free salad for checking in! read more

Sean was our main guy last night as we had a wedding eve party for 30 people in their special event room at the Mellow Mushroom in Mesa. At first we wondered how we were going to fit 30 people in this smallish room but it turned out better than we could possibly imagine. Let me preface by saying we only chose this restaurant because all the other restaurants around it had 30 min wait times and this restaurant had no wait...this should have been our sign to go elsewhere but we were starving. Restaurant was pretty empty when we walked in however the server still seemed bugged we were there, not welcoming at all, it was clear he did not want to be there. It was uncomfortable but we ordered and the food came out fast. The prices for food are high for what you actually get, small portions that were heavy on the cheap ingredients. Our food was also prepared wrong. Ended up taking my food to go and came home to season it up, add in an even amount of protein and then it was okay. I will give them credit for having a beautiful restaurant, ambience is there and the artwork they have is wonderful to look at. There's absolutely potential here but after giving them a try I completely understood why they were so empty compared to all the restaurants around this area, we won't be back. read more

The food was pretty good, but the customer service was a bit iffy at the end. When it was time to pay, we gave them cash, and the change back was a few bucks and some change. When our server brought back the receipt and change, we only had the bills but we were short the coins. I called the waitress over and she told us that usually they round down, so they tried to not give us our change. Of course a little change isn't really going to make a difference to us or our day, but it's truly the principle that didn't sit right with us. Dressing was some sort of thick muck similar to... oh, I don't know, spolied sour cream? Okay! I just can't believe my eyes! Got the bill and I was actually charged $1.49 for shitty frozen supposedly red (but unrecognizable) potatoes!!! OMG!!! Don't ask me if I want 'chips or roasted red potatoes' like it's a 'choice' and then charge me for them! They were disgusting and I didn't even touch them! Let me start off by saying that the food was pretty good. Tried both the shiitake pizza and the house pizza. Both were ridiculously good. Fresh ingredients and quality items. It's a little pricey, but well worth it. The service was great as well! Very fast, friendly, and knowledgable. They really do have a great team! Why the three stars? The kitchen is a hot mess. No other way to put it. At my table, we had 5 pizzas redone because the kitchen messed them up. That being said, it also took 3 hours for the group as a whole to get food. In all fairness, we had a big group. No one is perfect and there will be mistakes. Even the time it takes is expected to be longer, but not 3 hours. I will give this place another shot in a few months and hope that all the "newness" has worn off. I really hope that this turns out to be a great place we can come back to. read more

First off, I love Mellow Mushroom!! With that being said...This place needs a lot of help. We went here on Memorial Day for some drinks and pizza. There was a wait but most of the tables were empty. We figured they might be short staffed. We then sat at the bar and got some drinks. The beer selection is superb and they offer a lot of local companies with unique beers. The bar was attentive and probably the best experience we had the rest of our visit. After being seated, no one came over for 30 minutes until we finally flagged down someone. No one was assigned to our table so she volunteered. Finally, we put our order in and it was another 45 minutes until our pizza came. The pizza was piping hot out of the oven and delicious! We got the loaded potato pie and it's always a winner. When we went to pay the bill, it took another 30 minutes for our waitress to pick up our check. This was probably the longest I have ever waited to eat something and I've been in parties of 20 people at a restaurant. There were only 4 of us. If you know 'Mellow Mushroom Standard', then you know how amazing their pizzas are. If you don't know, then I'd recommend that you come find out. There really isn't another pizza like Mellow Mushroom's, and I could waste a bunch of words telling you why they're my favourite, but I'd rather just let their pizzas do the talking. These recents pizzas were perfectly balanced, and weren't greasy like the last ones. I'll continue to order from them, and if they ever 'slip up' again, I'll be sure to update my review. My husband and I tried this place out a while back and received okay service. Nothing to rave about and the food was average (I will say their pretzel bites were amazing though). We decided to try this place again tonight and I'm honestly embarrassed for the server and this restaurant. We were seated right away but that's where the positives in our experience ended. Our server came by and took our drink order. We ordered waters and she walked away. No "I'll have those right out for you" or even an "okay". When she brought our waters she took our order. We started with the hummus and we each got a sandwich. I ordered a mix drink at this time and she asked my husband if he wanted anything besides water but while he was clearly eyeing the beer taps to make a decision she walked away again without a word. He stuck with water. Eventually our hummus and pitas came out. It was okay, not much flavor in the hummus, should have stuck with the pretzel bits again. Then our food came out. She checked on us once when we were practically finished with our sandwiches. She refilled my husbands water and when she brought it back to the table she just sat it down as she continues to walk away. We dared to order dessert and she literally placed the pan on the corner of the table without a word and took off again. When she checked on us one final time we said we were ready for the check and away she went again. A few minutes went by and she swung by the table again but only to silently take our parmesan shaker to another table. More time passed and she dropped the bill. We planned on splitting the bill part card and part cash but after realizing she was too caught up chatting behind the bar with the bartender to come back we threw down some more cash and left. My husband and I both have managed and served in restaurants before and so we understand the difference between having a full section and being busy versus having 3 tables 2 hours before close and just not caring if your customers are doing alright. Out of curiosity after our experience I looked up some reviews and good god this place needs some revamping. I saw way too many reviews talking about the long wait times, subpar service and just average food. A sea of 1 star reviews in a matter of 3 months is a sign of a serious problem with the staff. For their sake I hope they do some retraining because this location needs it. read more

Sun dried tomatoes and pepperoni is the way go. Great beer selection...black market brew left dreamsicle --wow! Service was slow despite restaurant being relatively empty. Was so excited about mellow mushroom opening around the corner from us we went on the grand opening for lunch and had a great experience! Understandably a bit of a wait for our food (35 min) but it was the first day so let it slide. Went again today with our neighbors for my husbands birthday and it was a TERRIBLE experience. Arrived at 1pm, No wait for a table. 115 order taken, 210pm food arrives for half the table (minus the kids meal and one main dish), 215 ask again about kids meal "oh ya that will take awhile longer" wait a kids mac & cheese will take 1 hour to make? No apology from the waitress, she actually seemed to ignore us like we were bothering her. 240 still no mac & cheese for the toddler, cancel it & ask for bill. Bill comes with no apology 10 minutes later. Finally a bald manager comes to apologize for the wait, appreciate that but man these yelp reviews dont lie!! We stopped by Mellow Mushroom about 1 PM on a Saturday. About 2/3 of the tables were empty. We were surprised to find there was a wait list even though there were only two on the list ahead of us. Our wait was about ten minutes. We almost left but asked first if we could just sit at the bar. We were told that was fine but she was just getting ready to seat us. Well, it took a bit for us to really get seated. Thus, we were already getting ready to dislike the place. Our waiter was friendly, efficient and fast. We liked him so things started going uphill. The menu was interesting but we knew we were there for pizza. The pizza was great. We enjoyed it and ended up taking part of it home. Instead of a poor experience due to the front host, everything turned out nice. We will probably be back. read more

The crust isn't something I usually think too much about when ordering a pizza--usually the toppings are what's important to me and I just take for granted something is going to be there to hold it all together. I have to say, though, that the crust we had from the Mellow Mushroom was absolutely delicious and the star of the show, even though the toppings were good and plentiful. We got take out, and it was easy to roll up to the patio and get the order without needing to go inside the restaurant. The food was kept hot in a warming oven, so even though we were a bit late picking it up it didn't get cold and was still warm when we tore into it once we got home. The prices are a bit high, but that quality crust and our enjoyment of our food will bring us back. I never thought I'd wax rhapsodic over some dough, but here we are. read more
