Mellow Mushroom has got rave reviews from friends so we thought we would give it a try on vacation this time. There was a short wait. But honestly we felt like they could have sat us at a table on the patio but didn't because of a child's party that basically didn't arrive until we were done eating. We could see the patio. They gave us for free the yelp appetizer of pretzel pieces and beer cheese. This place was very noisy. Hard to have a conversation. Birthday parties through out . The pizza was very different but fine. Won't say my favorite. Left this place with the thought we tried it. No need to go back. If you got young kids and are a local go for it. My all time FAVORITE pizza! I get the build your own pie with vegan cheese, spinach and mushroom (no parmesan crust) and its fantastic. I can usually eat a lot but I order the small pie. Probably because before hand, we love to eat their pretzel bites. To veganize, ask your server to use salt and oil instead of cheese & butter. My fiancé isn't vegan but likes the pretzel bites this way much better anyway after trying both! My wife and I have eaten numerous times as it is convenient to our house. The service has always been excellent whether dining in or carrying out. When ordering online, the order is ready within a few minutes of their estimated time. The pizzas here are very good. I love their classic crust. My gets their gluten-free pizza, which is good (it is gluten-free, so it is hard to find a great pizza). I have tried the meatball sandwich and burger also. I am not a fan of either. the meatball fine, but lacking in flavor. The burger was not good at all. I suggest come here for the pizza and beer and you won't go wrong. read more

They say it starts at the top! issue: we were a big party who arrived at 12:35 order taken at 12:50 we did not receive food until 1:45 after complaints to management that people who came in after us were being served before us.. not once , not twice but multiple people ! manager: put us at the back of the line behind smaller orders because we didn't call ahead! Even though each family ordered separately for our families. So everybody that came in after us got served first all because he was upset we didn't call ahead!! This Mellow Mushroom location really rocks it. I come here way more often than I should. The food (salads, subs, pizzas, pretzels, etc.) is always consistent and never disappoint. In addition to good food this location has a lot of craft beers on draft, in bottles, and cans. They will also fill your growler for you. They are constantly changing out their drafts, so you can usually find something new on tap each week. This makes it great for their beer club that I'm a proud member of. After 100 different beers you get a really cool mug with your name (or whatever you want) on it, a t-shirt, a free pizza, a coozie, and your name on the 100 Beer Club picture hanging in the restaurant. But why stop at 100 since there is an even cooler mug you get after 200 different beers. They even go all the way up to the prestigious 500 beer club where you are immortalized on a plaque behind the wall. So you have kids and the beer club really isn't for you? Well you are covered there too. Kids eat free on Monday nights at this Mellow Mushroom. This location is also a great spot to catch you favorite team playing on one of the many televisions throughout the restaurant. They also have live music on the patio during the summer on the weekend; where they have a variety of different local musicians playing. There is also trivia and bingo year round during the week. If all this isn't enough, the staff at this location is SUPER! They are one of the most important reasons we keep coming back. We usually sit at the bar and are taken great care of by Molly, Erica, Stephanie, and Sarah. They are just awesome bartenders that polite, friendly, and know their stuff. Visiting Charleston & after a long day of walking around the historic district we were ready to relax & not deal with traffic & crowds. Looked at the reviews of Mellow Mushroom & it seemed like a perfect solution. Placed our order online & about an hour later our pizza arrived. Was excited to try this place...so I headed there on the way home from work...to pick up some dinner fixins... Picked the Holy Shiitake Pie...crust was okay...not the best I ever had...and the over all taste of the pie was good...but it was oily...and haha...not many shrooms...pizza is a cheap product...so kick it up...I felt the prices were steep for what i got...flavors were good...smelled killer...but geeze louise a BIG downer... To top it off... (Pun intented!) I wanted a salad...so they encourage you to build your own....haha... little did I know it was going to be over 15 dollars... never again...was about 3 cups..believe me it was good ...skimpy with the building items...surely not worth the PRICE...and I wanted to be polite so paid for it... never again... Mellow isn't my favorite type of pizza but it is good. I prefer more of an Italian thin crust variety but the thicker sweeter crust is a nice change of pace every once in a while. The pizza is very doughy and heavy, a little goes a long way. I like some of the other locations better mainly based on the buildings themselves but the product seems to be consistent across the board. I do like that they will allow you to do half and half with any specialty pizza so, if you want variety, you can order a large split instead of two smalls. My only real complaint is the price. A large with toppings will run you about $25.00. Pizza should be a cheap and sharable dinner option. If dinner for two is gonna cost $50-$75 I just assume to go somewhere else where we can choose entrees instead of sharing a pizza. read more

Horrible experiences when placing orders for pick up. Last night called at 5:45 pm for 3 pizzas. They said they would be ready in 1 hour. When I arrived 1 hour later, I had to wait another 45 minutes for my order. Many other people in line with me had the same experience. This isn't the 1st time I had to wait an unreasonable amount of time for an order. I spoke to a few locals who said never place an order for pick up here. This crap has been going on for years. Wife had some kinda spicy chicken ranch mexican salad with beans and corn....pretty awesome I'll have to say. If you're going to get a salad at a pizza joint, this is the way too go. Pretzel app..not sure if this is a new thing or I just never noticed it before. Not bad, not great. They have 3 different kinds and we got one of each. The parmesan one was definitely the best. Here was the situation, which can be corrected with a tweak in management. The pizza and beer were great. We were seated in the dining room by the bar and not told a football game was about to be broadcast. After ordering, the manager turned the volume up extremely loud, to the point where there could be no conversation across the table. We did ask for it to be turned down, but the manager didn't want to do that as the bar people wanted it louder. Our lunch was disturbingly loud. The bar speakers project to the dining area. Couldn't the speakers be directed toward the bar, rather than the dining area? Also, perhaps a sign when a dining group enters announcing that the bar will be elevating the speaker sound to prod-cast the sport. Our meal was ruined. Families in the dining area could not speak conversationally. This should be told to prospective diners. As it was, the manager said he could do nothing. read more

I'm generally not a pizza person, however if I'm having a pizza, Mellow Mushroom is the only pizza I will eat. This is a great place both for kids & adults. Take away or eat in. They have a nice bar area & TV's, along with a nice outdoor eating area. Funky 1960's style decor. All the pizzas are made fresh with great ingredients. They also serve salads, soups & calzones. It's a great place to stop by for a pint & a bite after work or to have lunch with some friends. Free wifi & friendly staff. Parking is good but can be hard to spot off of 17N. It's near the entrance to Park West across from the large Walmart as your driving South. They also do takeaway & you can order online or ahead. I was incredibly excited to eat here. The pictures of the interior and the menu made this place seem amazing. However, my experience here was not that amazing. Yes, the atmosphere, decor, and overall theme of the restaurant is great, there were some major downfalls. I am a vegan and I was excited to hear that this place had vegan options. However, when I asked our server about them she didn't know about them. We finally figured out what we could order and got a large vegan pizza and a vegan calzone. When it came out, it was very underwhelming. The pizza did not look like a large. We were told later on that it was a medium and that the gluten free crust, which was the vegan crust, only comes in a medium. The crust was also overcooked, it was crispy to say the least. The calzone was better, but the ingredients were unevenly distributed. The one positive about this experience is the service was good and our waitress was nice and answered our questions when she could and went to management when she couldn't. I still have high hopes for this place and would go back. If I did, I'm pretty sure that the regular crust is vegan without the brushing of butter and sprinkle of parmesean. read more

Great Bartender!! Nothing better than going out and having great service. The wife and I sat at the bar and had a few cocktails. The bartender was great. Her name was Hallie. She explained the different beers and was extremely attentive. Even though the bar was full, she never forgot us. Family wanted pizza and this was something that we don't have in California. I was a bit hesitant because it looks like a hippy place to eat. The whole mushroom thing and being on drugs theme didn't really suit me well. But it's a family restaurant. Came in and got seated right away. The booths are really, really tight. If you do happen to have a gut, you are not going to squeeze in. The bar looked fully stocked and there were a bunch of beers and craft beers to choose from. As for the pizza, get the Holy Shitake Mushroom. It's awkward saying since we had kids around us, but that's what it is on their menu and you should get it. It was cheesy and full of mushrooms. The sauce resembled an alfredo sauce perhaps? Not sure, but it was good. Also got the House pizza, which is pretty much a supreme pizza. The buffalo pizza was great as well. It was trivia night so it was a bit noisier that I would have expected, but not obnoxious. Great pizza! Great service! It can be hard to find since it's right off Hwy 17 in the woods. Oh Mellow Yellow. Eek. So I totally understand lack of staffing and longer than usual ticket times but from front of the house to back of the house....damn. What a miss. We arrived with kids before the "rush" at 5:15 pm on a Friday. We had a very simple order and so far at 6:55 only 3 items have come out of the kitchen. It started with the waitress being seated a 15 top after us and then they were inundated with grub hub and online orders so we were told. That shouldn't trump your in house patrons. We were given the song and dance that they were busy but people who came in 45 min after us got their food almost 50 min before us and the kids. This isn't a new thing at the Mt. Pleasant shroom. I get it that 15 tops are profitable but time management has a huge problem here. Currently it's 7:07 and no food for the kids. All of the tables around us have food. They ALL came in long long after us and have eaten and left including a 6 top. So at 7:15 the food finally arrived 2 hours after ordering. This seems to be a growing problem at the shroom. read more

We have eaten here many times before and this was the worst experience ever! My husband picked up the pizza and didn't check the boxes until he got home. The pizza was burnt. He called and they told my husband that he could call back in the morning since they were closing. I called back and they said they would remake it if I brought back the first pizzas. I went back and picked up the second attempt but I'm beginning to think it was the first batch reheated. To say we are disappointed is an understatement. On our trip to Charleston, We have made Mellow our go to pizza place. My wife who has food allergies really appreciates the way Mellow prepares their pizza and the items in which they offer. We decided to stop at this location after my sons baseball game (Our 3rd time @ Mellow in a week) and after visiting 2 other locations earlier in the week (Durham NC & Summerville SC), this particular location didn't quite live up to the other 2 locations. Having ordered the same things at the other locations, we got the exact same thing at the Mt Pleasant store and unfortunately this place missed the mark. Our server was very friendly so no issues there. The issues we experienced was missing items on my wife's salad and pizza. Also the toppings on my pizza were skimpy to say the least. It also took a very long time for our food to reach us and it didn't come out all at the same time. We quit going into the restaurant because the wait staff was so terrible. We started doing online ordering and picking it up our self. It has never, not once, and then ready the time they said it would be. The past two times it has been 30 minutes late. They will not be getting business from us anymore. I called management to tell them my frustrations and it seems they couldn't care less. I wish I had better things to say because their pizza is good. Absolutely amazing! We had Mellow catered at work and it was the best day of the month! We had 4 pizzas (cheese, the great white, mighty meaty & thai dye), a Greek salad and the pretzel bites. We were feeding 15+ people and had PLENTY. they also included plates, silver, etc. Food is absolutely delicious. I had never had the pretzel bites- the beer cheese is magical! All the pizzas were excellent, but the Thai dye was the most popular. The servings were HUGE. We don't even know what to do with all this leftover food! Chris, the GM, was great.
