Where has Mellow Mushroom been all my life?! WOW! Seriously, one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Everything in St. Augustine closes absurdly early and we were looking for some late-night munchies after a concert. We drove past Mellow Mushroom and decided to give it a try. So glad we made that decision! This pizza is sooooooooo good! I love places that let you customize your pizza entirely. I personally do a pie with mozzarella, ricotta, pepperoni, onion, and garlic with red sauce and bbq drizzle on top. YUMMMMM. They also have a full bar so you can drink whatever your little heart desires. Wishing we had a Mellow Mushroom in Miami because this now tops my former favorite pizza from Pizza Rustica. My family and I went to Mellow Mushroom last night. I have a special-needs dog, so we always have to find a place that we can eat outside and bring him. They were more than accommodating. I also have a grandson, who is autistic, that they were wonderful with. The horrible thing, is, I got the large avocado sandwich, so I would have lunch for today. I live in Orlando, so I have a pretty good drive back and I forgot my other half of the sandwich in the car. I was devastated this morning, to say the least. It used to be very good I placed an order online they charged me for medium pizza and an order of pretzels. They charged me for it and only gave me the pizza when I asked for my pretzels the ladies issuing the orders were very rude and stated that I only order a pizza. I didn't want to argue, and I left. I am a regular at the Jax Beach location. I have visited some of the ATL locations. Sadly, my childhood mellow mushroom in Gainesville has been gone for years. As a seasoned Mellow fan I'm aware each location has their own design and menu options. The glittery rooster outside was my favourite. The inside of this one is less hippy than my usual Mellow. I ordered the Freshy pizza since it isn't available elsewhere. It isn't as flavorful as the mushroom pizzas, but it was tasty nevertheless. The crust is made from the same recipe with Parmesan. This wa a horrible experience, they had a live band play in a pizza restaurant. Wives of band members were groupies. The sound was so loud our waitress didn't get our order correct. We could not hear our family members talk to each other. Food was ok when it finally came out. Don't recommend if you are with your friends and want to talk over dinner. Had to get 2 meals Togo because the food did not come out together. read more

Great food! I had to get the mushroom pizza (for obvious reasons), and it did not disappoint. The white sauce on top of the pizza was to die for--really aromatic and flavorful. The mushrooms were also really good and juicy. The crust of the pizza was cooked perfectly; toasted on the outside but still pillowy inside. We got free pretzel bites for checking in on yelp! Our visit was at the end of lunch, around 1:30. We were greeted by friendly folk at the door. Our server, Victoria, was sweet, helpful, and anticipated our needs. Five of us split a large house salad as a first course. IT was plenty! We ordered two large pizzas. Both were delicious! We took home almost a whole large pizza. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Bathrooms are well-appointed and clean! Definitely above the average pizza place, and we are from the Chicago area. We know our pizza! Okay, MM. You got me. Pretty good. Pretty damn good. For Florida pizza... Sorry, Sunshine State, but the greatest food ever isn't your speciality. Too much dough, too much cheese, bland sauce, greased all to hell. Florida pizza is enjoyed soley by stoners and tourists who don't know any better. Or stoned tourists, dunno... See, my family comes from the NYC area where we are (rigthfully) the most arrogant, spoiled bastards when it comes to pizza. Judge, don't judge. IDGAF. Back to the Mellow Mushroom. Literally many times. Because they get it. Someone took the time to create a unique and fun menu, and perfect the food to the best of their abilities. MM's selections are good, the flavors interesting, nothing dopey and trendy. The pies tend to be a little too bready for my taste, but the sides and salads are excellent. Generous portions, too. Here's the best part. The service. I've been there 6-8 times in as many years and while the servers change, the service doesn't. Very friendly, very much like a neighborhood restaurant, even though it's a chain -- normally a negative in my book. So when I'm visiting, lunch or takeout at the MM is almost certainly a family tradition now. read more

There is little positive to mention about this place. The pizza quality is mediocre and everything else ranging between bad and terrible. The first hint when coming in is that customers are outnumbered by staff having little to do. There seems little interest service to customers. The pizzas are so so. Not terribly expensive but definitely not wood-oven quality or worth their price. Any other pizza place will match quality easily at a lower price. It seems the real money maker are the drinks: In short: over priced. Beer prices are among the highest in town and the same goes for domestic styles. One would hope all this would get compensated with outstanding service. Unfortunately, as mentioned before, don't get fooled by the number of staff. Even with just a few people at the bar it is impossible to get their attention. There is nothing like water offerings with food or anything else that might disrupt extra beer income. Even locals falling totally drunk of their bar stools next to other customers can't get their attention. We witnessed worried but ignored customers while the manager was only focused on making sure the abandoned tab got paid. If you think you can avoid all this by ordering delivery: No. Summary: Avoid this place and look for a 'For Lease' sign here early 2023 at the latest. read more

We have one of these in San Antonio and have never been to it. But we saw this one our first day in St. Augustine and had to stop. We started with the pretzel bites with beer cheese and you could make a meal with just that. I was able to customize my White Shark pizza to add pesto sauce and pepperoni. The pizza was delicious and I really love their crust. My BIL had the house pizza and he really enjoyed it (he ate all of it so it must have been good) My son had the Caesar pizza, which I thought was going to be weird, but it worked. read more

Following sold out concert @ St. Augustine Amphitheater we hustle into a 10:15 PM sold out Mellow Mushroom. Seems all the concert goers had the same idea. WoW! place was slammed, 45 min wait, wait staff, bar staff and kitchen were hustling just to stay afloat. Well it wasn't that long a wait, the beer was chill and the pie could have had a little more Mellow Love, but we were hungry and it all worked out good. Was it just the choices that we made or that the Jacksonville location is much better... perhaps both is the situation. The hostess was extremely friendly and so was our waitress although perhaps not the most veteran as she was often MIA or taking other orders, but not checking up on the table. Very nice the whole time... We ordered a kids meal: cheesy bread and apple slices and a large pizza (half veggie half karma no pesto). The cheesy bread tasted like one of those frozen hoagie pizzas you make at home after you've left it for too long in the back of the freezer and then didn't bake it long enough in the toaster oven. The apples had definitely been sitting for a bit in a fridge as they were soft and very cold. They also tasted a little sour which isn't ideal for a kids meal. The kid ate half the cheesy bread no apples. The large specialty pizza arrived dripping water onto the table. Even though we waited long enough maybe the pizza hadn't baked all the way to dry out the water from the veggies? The pizza red sauce was mediocre. We were definitely disappointed. I love Mellow on the island. Used to get the Mega Veggie pizza (vegan style) with tofu or a hoagie with avocado and tempeh. I think the vegan protein options are not on the menu anymore, or maybe priced out of my budget--however, I'm still a sucker for a vegan pie with veg cheese. Hits the spot. Ordered online for carry out. Website was easy to use and was able to order fast. Ordered a Large pizza, 2x Cheese, 2x Pepp, and sausage. Pizza was hot! I arrived at the restaurant about 10 minutes before the stated order completion time and had to wait about 10 minutes so I recommend going by the time that the website tells you when it comes to when to pick up your order. Pizza was Hot and delicious! My 6yr old loves the Chocolate Chip Cookies and I can see why! I think they have 4 different kinds of chocolate and even come with chocolate dipping sauce which is good. Overall, I've never been a huge fan of Mellow Mushroom but it's just my preference! This pizza was the best MM pizza that I've ever had so props to them! Stopped by Mellow Mushroom after a night of dancing at St. Augustine Ampitheatre. Walking in and needing a table for seven (which turned into nine), I was sure we would have a wait, but they were able to seat us right away and we began to peruse the beer list to quench our thirst-jones. We were each going to get a salad, but when our eyes caught the sight of the 'local' menu we quickly upgraded to the Datil Work pizza. Splitting a small allowed us just enough food to sate our taste buds without going home with a stomach ache. The pizza has a datil pepper sauce base with chicken, peppers & pineapple. The combination of ingredients created a nice sweet heat on the pizza. Our waitress - whose name is failing me - was so sweet and stayed right on top of getting our table everything they needed without missing a beat. Definitely will have to remember this shop is on the island the next time I'm in the Anicent City. read more

We have been having celebrations and get togethers and often will pick up pizza as some family members are Vegan and/or gluten-free. One time we waited about 30 minutes for an order placed online (they hadn't even started it when we got there), and other times when I placed orders ahead, they were not ready on time either, so definitely expect to wait. I also requested some extras like bleu cheese and ranch, and they have been forgotten- I would recommend you double check your order before leaving!! Wondering why such a pleasant-appearing gal would have a hard-on for folks who have the misfortune of walking into Mellow Mushroom and sitting in her section. Odd. I think servers rely on tips for income. Not our gal. She was as diffident and surly and disinterested as a person waiting in lock-up for bail money. I might suggest Meredith explore another line of work. Hospitality is clearly not her strength. A glaring lack of personal skills aside, her propensity for completely deserting us and ignoring our table speaks volumes about her weakness as a server. Nothing more needs to be said about Meredith. If you like fresh-made pizza in a clean and relaxing environment, stop into Mellow Mushroom in St Augustine. But pray you do not have to be served by Meredith. Anyone else. But not Meredith. My first experience at Mellow Mushroom... and I wasn't disappointed! I met some friends at this establishment to grab a bite and to watch World Cup matches. I ordered the "Maui Wowie" pizza (small size). This pizza is the perfect size for one person! I contemplated getting the medium, but fortunately the waiter "educated" me on the portion size (e.g. the medium is for two relatively hungry people). Was taken care of by the bar manager and another bartender during the rose bowl game and couldn't have been treated better...checked on us at the most appropriate times, made sure we had EVERYTHING we needed, from cutlery, to toppings, to filled drinks. Very pleasant crew...drinks were solid. They also offer 2fers everyday on every drink, beer, or wine for happy hour! I had the golden goose which was very tasty...now, I am from New York so pizza is hard for me to do out of state, but I do enjoy mellow mushroom. Their crust is thick, with a nice chew. I like the dough and they season it well. We had the cheese bread (a tad cold, but cheese was melted plenty and the sauce was good), the pretzel bites (which is more like nuggets of their dough w cheese and sauce...but again, I like their crust so I thought they were pretty good), and the great white pizza (ricotta, Parmesan, fresh basil, and roasted tomatoes) which was honestly quite good and I enjoyed the large dollops of Ricotta. Caesar dressing was way over salted, couldn't eat it and mushroom soup was aweful. Not a good experience. I would have been better to get a frozen Paul Newman's for $8. read more
