I'm always on the search for a good honey or lavender coffee and Matilda's delivers with a combination of both! The honey lavender latte is the perfect amount of sweet. Great addition to the neighborhood. It's been busy so I can tell people like it. Food it bomb! The flavor hits perfectly. No surprise here since the chef is crazy talented and always has interesting takes on old favorites as well as new things too. Breakfast sammie hit the spot! Inside is awesome. Stopped in for brunch and the food was delicious! We ordered the avocado toast and spicy fried egg blt - both were scrumptious! Finding seating was an issue so ended up having to take it out. Would come back for takeout since the food was so good. read more

This place is hands down my new favorite coffee shop. Don't listen to the twerps on here saying otherwise. Coffee is amazing, it's bright an airy, and there are many outlets placed all throughout making it a great place for people to come and "WFH". It's a lovely space, with warm colors and modern finishes, local art on the walls. They're quite popular right now so it does get difficult to socially distance if you want to linger. Food and drinks are pretty solid (great breakfast sandwich!) and prices are on par with higher end coffee shops/cafes. Friendly staff. read more

After hearing a lot of great things about Matilda, I finally had a chance to get in and check it out. Maybe unfairly, I set a pretty high bar for it because I used to love Starry Nites (had been going to that space for almost 20 years!). I was so happy and relieved to see that they took an iconic Rochester spot and made it into its own unique experience. Very different than what it was, but still 100% excellent in its own way. Really friendly staff, quick service, great coffee, comfortable, clean, and a completely unpretentious vibe. It's a small detail, but I was also happy to have the option of a couple different milk choices available. They were also very attentive and adherent to recent COVID protocols, I appreciate that. Overall, it's just really awesome and uplifting to see local people moving forward and opening a cool new place right now. This place is overall absolutely amazing, incredible and kind staff that explains the menu and is very friendly, delicious food and drinks, and very nice atmosphere. The only critique I have is that one of the owners was constantly SCREAMING. I was here for a couple hours doing work and he proceeded to scream about things like yelling across the cafe asking his staff to do things, yelling for someone to bring him a phone charger, and overall YELLING. It was extremely disruptive and jarring, and made an overall wonderful experience much less pleasant. I'm all for a fun, conversational environment, but this volume that echoed and radiated throughout the place was unsettling with many customers looking visibly uncomfortable as well. The rest of the staff is great, but unfortunately he really affected the atmosphere read more

When I walked in, I greeted the employees with a friendly, "hello", which was reciprocated with a blank stare. I proceeded to smile, while one employee turned around and whispered to her coworker. Then, I ordered avocado toast in which I indicated that I did not want radishes or tomatoes. There were both radishes and tomatoes on my toast. I honestly enjoyed Matilda before this experience, however I do not think I will be returning. They need to work on their customer service. read more

i love melo! great atmosphere and coffee. the food is delicious. i like to come here and grab a bite and journal. i usually get a chai latte and a food item. i went today and got my usual and was there for about an hour when one of the workers came up to me and asked if i wanted anything to drink. i was confused and already spent $18 and didn't need anything else. i said i'm ok and he said that other people might want to use the table. pretty passive aggressive and wasn't very friendly. i offered to leave and he said ok so i did. i was baffled and embarrassed thinking maybe i did something. if it were super busy i would understand if they needed the table, but there were multiple other seats open. i already had bought something and wanted to chill for a bit. not to mention there were people sitting there who had been there long before me. i still love melo and will continue to go, this experience was just quite a vibe kill unfortunately. read more

Nice coffee shop. I've had the ginger bread belgian waffle a few times and it was delicious every time. I always order a side of bacon and it is cooked to perfection every time, just enough fat to crisp ratio. The food quality is consistent, it's not a hit or miss situation. The service is great too. The staff is really nice and one even offered to help me take my plates and drink back to my table because I only have two hands and ordered three items. read more
