Stopped In for a late lunch on the way to Cooperstown Dreams Park. Ordered ribs, Mac and cheese, cucumbers and potato skins. The potato skins and sides were just okay. The ribs are the worst I've ever had. The steak knife that came with the plate should have been the give away...they were tough, dry and flavorless. Back in Georgia, the meat falls off the bone, is tender and flavorful. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. The only positive was our server. Why 4 stars and not 5? Some dishes were a little extra, over spiced. Food flavor shouldn't be covered up if it is done right. We met the chef and he was a great guy! The decor is fabulous and the staff is wonderful. We didn't have a reservation so we went in early, 5:30. Any later and we wouldn't have gotten a table. First time visiting Cooperstown. Did the Yelp review and Mel's was highly rated (and recommended by the front desk at our bed & breakfast). So why not! Not disappointed. It's a small but happening place (we were there on a Friday night in September) with a nice bar and a good list of beers and wine. But the food was REALLY good, and not too pricey. I had a Swordfish special and my wife had the Pork Chop off the main menu (fantastic)! Service was pleasant and attentive (maybe a bit slow BUT we were in no hurry so for us the pace was perfect). I probably wouldn't bring a young family here but for adults it was ideal. Definitely worth trying. read more

Can not wait to come back to Cooperstown just so we can eat at Mel's again!! Looking back we should have dressed up a bit... but just coming from a day at the Baseball Hall of Fame, I made it work with my Yankee t-shirt. Just to be sure we could get in, on Friday afternoon I made a reservation for Saturday evening. We were sat right away. The staff was so nice and attentive. The owner came around asking everyone how they were enjoying their food. My husband got the chicken Parm and I got the French pork chop. We were eating off each others plates all night! For dessert we had the gluten free strawberry short cake. So yummy and light. The food was delicious. The decor and atmosphere was great as well. Definitely recommend ! read more

This place hits on all cylinders! We went there with a rather large party of 9 and they accommodated us for lunch. Everything was spot on and seemed fair in pricing. The tuna taco was seared and came with garlic parm tater tots... Loved it! Another one in my party had the black and bleu burger and he couldn't stop raving about it. The blackened chicken sandwich was delicious but keep in mind its super spicy. All in all everyone at the table was impressed! read more

My husband and I had dinner at Mel's on a Friday night while we were in town for the weekend. We walked in at 6:00 and were told they didn't have any openings until 9:30. We put our name in and walked around town, finding the Cooperstown Beverage Exchange so we killed time there. Make sure you make a reservation! We made our way back to Mel's at 9:00 and they seated us right away. The food was fantastic, I had a salmon special. The drinks were good and the selection was diverse, small menu though. They had a band playing so it was a little loud but still a nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area! read more

So I had another great experience at Mel's 22 this year. The four of us divided our orders: men had burgers and women scallops and risotto. The burgers always win at Mel's. The Black and Blue is my favorite and I'm sorry not to have ordered it. The scallops were good but not a 'knock it out of the park'. Still- the staff and jibe are great. Absolutely amazing restaurant. Stopped in during Induction Week for a nice dinner on the town. It's a very convenient location being very close to the Hall of Fame- about a five minute walk. I got the California Burger here to eat, it was very delicious and filling. Our waitress was extremely nice, she even was nice enough to take a few dollars off our tab for a missing salad for one of our party members. That's the kind of service I like to see at a restaurant. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice lunch or dinner spot in Cooperstown! read more

Wonderful Burgers & fantastic Pastries & Desserts. Kudos to the Pastry Chef. My favorite Restaurant in a charming town.

Sat down, took 10 minutes to get water, 15 minutes for someone to come ask if we wanted cocktails. We said no, we were ready to order...the lady said another person handled that, and left. We were taken aback. Then it took another 15 minutes for the server to come and give us silverware then to leave...But NOT TO take our order. We noticed that the the tables on the outside still hadn't gotten any plates our any bread. The family at the other table actually came to us and asked, "did someone take your order?" We said no. "This is ridiculous. And we have somewhere to be."' The guy actually went inside to get the server, then we listened incredulously as the server said it would take at least 30minutes for the food to coffee after it was offered. Omg another 30 minutes um hell no. Worst service ever. We just got up and left. TOSCANA, a few blocks down, is highly recommended for dinner. read more

First place we hit up for dinner in Cooperstown and we were a little underwhelmed. The service was really good and the bread was excellent. The entrees were a bit off the mark. My fish and chips weren't crispy, to the point where I felt that the crust was soggy. My wife got the pork special which sounded good but lacked execution. Pork was a little dry and the stuffing was not very well distributed. Overall it wasn't bad but definitely not a five star kind of night. read more

First of all, their new Mac and cheese made with small shells is AMAZING!! But, the garlic Parmesan fries... not so much. Garlic is one of my favorite flavors, I have never said "that's too much garlic" but these fries HAVE WAY TOO MUCH GARLIC! We were expecting fries seasoned with garlic and parmesan sprinkled on top. We were displeased to find out it didn't have parmesan visibly on it, nor did it taste like parmesan. There was however a TON of garlic on top and mixed in, no working around it. In order to eat it without choking on garlic we had to drench it in the chipotle aoili. No hate on Mel's itself. They usually are very good! Just these fries need some work. read more

Went for dinner and everything was amazing. By far Mel's and Tuscanas are the best restaurants in the area. The atmosphere and decor are very cool it's got modern elements but also incorporates the local farm vibe. Great bar and drinks. We were a party of 6 everyone had something different and everything was delish. Even the bread they serve was great. I ordered the lobster risotto which had big checks of fresh perfectly cooked lobster and risotto done perfectly rich and well seasoned. It also came with 4 perfectly cooked sea scallops wait staff was awesome too highly recommend. Keep the kids at home so everyone can enjoy it's more of an adult restaurant read more

Mel's is a fantastic place, the perfect refuge to the crowds in summer. The food is great, and the local staff is helpful and authentic. Try the cucumber-mint gimlet, a specialty of the bartender who was also very, very funny. We'll definitely be back. read more

This review is coming from a person who eats out regularly, in some of the best restaurants in Brooklyn, NYC and other places. Firstly my expectations were not very high at all. No offense to Mel's but I had my doubts especially driving 4 hours through rural NY. But my husband and I were extremely impressed from the moment we walked in. 5 stars for extremely great service. Decor is beautiful. We were introduced to Mel's amazing menu and specials. We had a very difficult time picking our meals because everything looked so great. We opted for fried calamari which could have been a little crispier and less greasy but the mild pepperoncini cut the grease. Super tasty. We were also served warm bread. I must admit, again, I took a chance and ordered the lobster risotto. I've had risotto many times before but this risotto is up there as one of the top risottos I've ever had. Yeah I know AMAZING. Scallops were seated perfectly. Everything tastes fresh! My husband had the southern inspired burger which was super tasty well cooked. All in all a fabulous dining experience in Cooperstown. As an out of town visitor I highly recommend it! Enjoy!!! (All the burgers looked so delicious BTW) pesto fries rocked too okay I will stop now :) read more

Enjoyed Sunday brunch here this past weekend. My crab cakes egg benwdict was delightful. The side of fruit was mostly citrus, but it's off season so that may have contributed to lack of variety. Other diners enjoyed the yogurt, fruit & granola, traditional egg breakfast, and a breakfast burger variety. All were equally pleased with their meals. After the long drive from NYC, Mel's not only stayed open for us but served us an excellent meal. Jessie our waiter was great and rolled with our roadtrip hangover mood. The food was fresh, good size portions and cooked to perfection. Will definitely be recommending it to anyone making the pilgrimage to the Baseball Hall of Fame. read more

We live in town and go here every other week either for food or drinks. The food is unreal. Their white balsamic salad dressing is delicious, especially on the beet salad. Yum! I had the California Dreamin' burger and my fiancee had the fiesta bowl. Both excellent, the burger was juicy and flavorful, their variation on the Moscow Mule met the future missus' exacting standards, and all for a lot less than I'd have expected for that quality of food. They have a very creative menu, the location and atmosphere is awesome, classy decor, good selection of cocktails, wine and beer, and friendly, personable staff. I need to start out this review by saying the food we got which was the salmon Asian dish and the southern burger were excellent. This place was recommended by a number of the locals. Our problem was two fold. They have a bad fly problem and the place was not clean. The bench seat is badly stained and had food particles on it. The floor was dirty. The waitress' apron was really dirty or badly stained This was at 5pm before the dinner rush started. We mentioned it to the server and didn't get much of a response. We didn't have a chance to speak to a manager before we had to leave. Hopefully management can take some immediate action to resolve these issues. read more

Came for a late dinner after visiting the Hall of Fame. The lobster risotto was spot on. Scallops were perfectly cooked. My son had the chicken parmigiana and that was a good portion. The other son had a massive southern burger. My hubby got the rib eye. Everything was delicious. We ended with a slice of chocolate cheesecake. Memorable dinner for our 21st anniversary. read more
