What a gem! The custom painted walls add to the charm of this place. Waitstaff were attentive and super nice. Homemade real food, I had the grilled Reuben and my husband had the chicken a la King special. I could only eat half of my sandwich so we boxed up other half to eat for dinner. wanting to stop near our place on the lake for a late breakfast we discovered Mel's though a search on Yelp and were not disappointed. Friendly servers, met the owner and the wall murals alone are worth the trip - very talented artist must have spent hours on the walls - good news is the food is just as good as the murals. Husband had the sampler - 2 eggs, sausage and bacon and your choice of French Toast or pancakes. He chose the pancakes and was presented with 2 huge, 8" fluffy circles of happiness! I had 2 scambled, bacon, deep fried home fries and toast. everything is a winner here - service, food and get this real ice tea made from real tea bags. We will be back - and we were told they have another location in Springvale - run by the owner's sons. read more

First time dining here this morning. The food was excellent both my kids cleaned their plates. The wait staff was super friendly and the prices were great as well. My only hesitation about going back would be the size of their dining room for the amount of people that were there. It's a very small dining room, so I now know if there's a lot of cars in the parking lot it's going to be hard to get a seat. read more

It was alright, if there was a Dennys or Sharis around I'd deff prefer there. The toast and hash browns can be easily made at home.

Stumbled upon this place via Yelp. Best Eggs Benedict I've had in a very long time. Waitress was sweet, friendly and accommodating. Took away three fresh baked turnovers for the family - apple, raspberry and blueberry. They requested I drive 30 miles and go back and get more! I have been to both locations for Mel's Raspberry Patch, but prefer the Rte 4 location because the food tastes better and the servers are great. Unfortunately, I can no longer go there because they are not handicap accessible with a ramp and they have no drive up window. Because they do not consider handicapped people and make their restaurant meet the minimum requirements, I cannot give them a higher rating. read more

The OWNER wouldn't let my 82 year old Mom sit at a table inside when it was sleeting outside this winter simply because 1 of our party of 5 wass not there yet. When I try to explain she actually called me outside so she could argue with me out of your shot of the rest of the customers. Hell I didn't want to argue I was just hungry and I wanted my Mom to have a safe place to sit and wait a few minutes. In the end I told her where to go and we all left to go somewhere else for breakfast. Hard to believe that the owner of a restaurant would be that rude to people for such a small reason but then again she's a very small person. I wouldn't care if it was five star food with that kind of attitude from her I would never eat there again and I'm a local... Went here for the first time last week... as someone with a gluten allergy I was amazed at all the gluten free options. Pancakes, waffles, French toast, homemade muffins!! Food was amazing and the prices are unbeatable. My fiancé got 2 lunches and I got eggs, home fries, and bacon with a GF pancake with fresh fruit, we each got a drink and it was only $35. Exactly what you want in a breakfast joint. Tight-knit atmosphere. A staff that knows you and remembers your regular order. An endless supply of good, hot coffee. Fresh, tasty food in generous portions. Easy on the wallet. I always get the mushroom, onion and tomato omelet with their special crispy potato fries (they're almost like tater tots, only yummier). Stopped in to their Springvale cafe for breakfast. I had high hopes because the coffee was so good. We ordered a cheese omelet with home fries, one pancake with sausage. The omelet came with ordinary toast that was a day away from being fresh. The home fries were quite good and not overly seasoned. I enjoy a fluffy omelet. This one was flat and overcooked. The pancake & sausage were ok. I always wonder why restaurants don't go the extra mile....like serving homemade toast instead of the store bread. They offer muffins that I assume are homemade so how about baking some bread too? Their prices are very reasonable so we will go back and try lunch. read more

Been coming frequently for the last few months, and last week, the pancakes tasted old, and reheated, and were not the huge, amazing treats I traveled 45 minutes to get. When I brought it up to the manager, he barely said anything and then said well then do you want me to take it off the bill? What was I suppose to say? I didn't allow him to do that, but he should have just taken it off the bill and not asked. Since the whole table ordered pancakes and were not happy. You have a gem of a place, don't change anything, but be sure your batter is fresh and your manager and staff know how to handle a complaint. I was not even offered a replacement. She had the guts to ask me if I wanted a box to take them home. I won't give up, but I hope you tell your staff to think before they respond to a complaint. read more

Staying in Kennebunk for the week and happened by Mel's en route to see some foliage. Enjoyed lunch on our first day and especially the homemade bread, for my turkey sandwich. Returned today, for breakfast and had a WONDERFUL meal. The omelette, homefries, homemade honey oat bread were all great. The blueberry pancake was one of the best I have ever had---fresh blueberries, light and fluffy and hot (which is not always the case, at a lot of other places). The waitresses were also very nice. And of course, the cooks, whoever they are, have got it going on! I have never been to another restaurant, where you get more value AND quality, for the dollar. P.S. This place is less than than one half hour from Kennebunk and worth every minute of the drive. And a very pretty traffic free drive it is , if you take route 9 to route 4. (Don't take route 109, as it will bring you through downtown Sanford) Take Rt 9 to Rt 4. Easy as Mel's Blueberry Pie. read more
