Men at Wok in Williston under new ownership.. wish I had checked yelp before going tonight. Also why I'm posting this. I haven't been in a while. I remember it being very good. Stopped to get food tonight and it was absolute garbage. $50 and not worth $5 Pork fried rice didn't have any flavor, it was brown and but not even salty. Shrimp with lobster sauce had a weird brown sauce with a few shrimp and some weird mystery meat like substance in the sauce. I asked for steamed dumplings, got pan fried- 3 dumplings in an order and so much dough and under cooked. Crab Rangoon was bland and gritty cheese. Chicken and broccoli also had very little flavor and the chicken was an odd texture. Even the side sauces were awful. I asked for a sweet and sour sauce and it was so thick and flavorless. Save your time and your money. We enjoy leftovers in my house and this went into the trash. read more

I hate to leave negative review for a small business being a small business owner myself.. but come on.. We have been a huge fan of Men at Wok since they opened many decades ago. Tried and true no matter the day or time the food was always piping hot and fresh and bursting with flavor, hands down this was our go to place. Apparently they have changed hands and this place is on a downward spiral. The beef teriyaki was a fraction of the thickness in the past, same with the skimpy pieces chicken in the chicken fingers and what is with all the soggy batter, the rice was bland and flavorless with no egg and no scallions. The skimpy portion of boneless pork was flavorless. They didn't provide white rice with the Egg Foo Young and no Fortune Cookies with our $60 ( before tip) order. The chicken wings and the Crab Rangoons we're good.. no complaints there. The guy working was super friendly and really nice but it still doesn't make up for lousy food. "Men at Wok" in Williston, is the BEST CHINESE RESTAURANT in all of Vermont !!! Their vegetables are exquisitely fresh and portions are generous for each dish. The food seems to be all take-out at this location. The employees are always friendly and professional . The restaurant, itself , is impeccably clean and its interior design is lovely and Chinese . The place has plenty of parking, once inside they move around tables and chairs to accommodate large and small groups. The place looks dated but people keep on coming in when we were there so they must keep everything the same, which it great for keeping the consistency of customers that come in and out of here. We went for a graduation party and they made it easy to cater to large portions of food. If you want good Chinese food around the area, this is the spot. read more

Men at work have been a business since I was in my teens and that's well over 15 years. Their food is very delicious and freshly made. Very consistent and you just can't beat the general Tao chicken. They know what they're doing. That's why they've been in business for so long. My husband wanted Chinese food and so I am driving three towns over to be able to get there cooking. We have surpassed two other restaurants that we could have easily picked up, but I don't like the way they make their food. I like the way men at wok make their food. Their prices are more than reasonable, especially on this day and age of everything. Pricing and hiking up with prices. The quantity of the food is a lot. I honestly eat my meal and segments. Where else around here do you see ma po tofu made the way it should be (ground pork and real Szechuan seasoning), wonton soup with actual roast pork and appropriate veggies, and yakta mein soup on the menu? My son and I are in the process of visiting every Chinese restaurant in Chittenden County.  We always order the same thing.   I order a chicken and broccoli combo with pork fried rice and an egg roll.  My son orders a sesame chicken combo with pork fried rice and teriyaki sticks. Price: $18.48 or $28/oz is about average in Chittenden County. Portion: 4.2 lbs between the two meals is about average. Pros:  Convenient location. Cons: - Unfriendly customer service - Didn't include soy sauce packets, napkins, or utensils - The rice was bland and lacked flavor. Seemingly little effort was made to achieve a tasty meal - Chicken & broccoli had excessive liquid - The egg roll tasted odd Impression:  Poor tasting food at an affordable price.  Overall negative experience giving Men at Wok a two-star rating. read more

I've been going to Men at Wok for many, many years and the food is great. You get a huge amount of totally decent Chinese food for an incredible price, and it's extremely consistent. There's no catching them on a bad day, it's always exactly the same good level of quality. As other reviewers have noted, the lady who is usually running the register and taking orders is TOTALLY rude, but we go in expecting that and just kind of laugh it off because underneath her brusque demeanor she's been good to us lots of times and done things like saving us money by recommending order combinations that let us get the same amount of food but at a lower price. Did she do it in the rudest way possible? Yes, but it's apparently the only way she knows how to interact with the world. I just saw the other reviewers calling her the "soup nazi" and laughed out loud because it's totally accurate, but don't take it personally. So anyway, if you want a huge amount of good Chinese food at a good price and you're prepared for a lady to snap at you and treat you like an annoying idiot, this is the place to go. read more

Don't let the negative reviews fool you, this place isn't that bad. If you get offended easily or are on the softer side, you may not enjoy the service. The family that runs it is very straightforward. Know what you want or don't order until you do. The food is some of the best Chinese food I've had. Don't ever eat in, always take out for the best experience. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews when all the other Chinese places in Williston are terrible and not even worth a try. Gai Poo Lo Mein is exactly like what I got back in Boston in the 70's at Lanai Island (Waltham, MA). It's incredible that the same recipes exist. Staff is terrific! Yesterday was the first time I'd been to Men At Wok since about 1996. It used to be my go-to place when I did laundry at the laundromat in the same strip mall. Things change and not always for the better. Just about everything seemed like thy were phoning it in. From hygiene (I really don't want to watch a cook eating with his fingers while cooking my food, nor does it give me confidence to see the cashier assembling crab rangoons without washing her hands after handling money) to courtesy (was it necessary Tom hide me for paying with a credit card?), to cleanliness (sticky tables and lights on only in half the space) they missed. The food itself was tolerable, but it took a surprisingly long time to get a scoop of fried rice, an egg roll, and a couple of boneless spare ribs. Nope, no more Men At Wok for me. read more

I went to this place because the hotel recommended it. I ordered a takeout order which took forever. The service was average. The place was dark and looked dirty. They don't seem to care about the atmospherics at all. The place lacks basic decoration and has ugly tables and chairs. The food was ok. The best thing about it was the name. My wife and I like trying different types of Chinese food/restaurants. After reading the reviews on their website we thought "it can't be that bad".... Oh trust me it was "that bad" We called in the order, only took about 20 minutes (pretty normal, not bad!) We got our normal sweet-and-sour chicken combination with fried rice, crab Rangoon, and pork lo mein. When we got there hand written signs everywhere on the window and door, when we walked in, we went up to the counter the guy at the counter asked if we had masks on (clearly we didn't) he asked again and we said no for the second time. It smelled of cigarette smoke, very dark and dingy, not set up to "dine in", very cluttered and dusty. One of the women behind the counter was slouched back in a chair at a desk on her phone. Other than the mask scenario the gentlemen put the bag of food on the counter, didn't even tell us how much it was (we saw on the screen) After we paid for it he put the change on the counter and didn't say anything else. (No " have a nice evening" or "thank you" nothing!) When we got out to our vehicle, we opened the bag to make sure we had the right order and everything was there. There were no napkins or utensils. The fried rice was OK, the container of lo mein was wrapped in a plastic bag and covered in sauce. It seems the only seasonings they used to flavor the food was soy sauce. The sweet-and-sour sauce was way too thick and way too sweet. The sweet and sour chicken was basically chicken fingers. The chicken seemed dry, old and the breaded crust was very greasy and not fully cooked. It tasted very much of old oil. The crab Rangoon again wasn't cooked fully. The food was disgusting and we didn't eat more than half of it. I am definitely not going back, and quite disappointed. If I could I would give it zero stars. read more

The only negative was the service, the owner was always rude. Last night I ordered take-out, the price would have been reasonable if the food was as good as it used to be. I am a Deaf woman of color who recently moved to Williston and came in to this establishment to order my food. I picked up a menu and needed time to go through it. The woman at the register was extremely rude to me and made rude remarks facial expressions at me which I didn't understand. She had no patience with me when I was ready to place my order, she took in a very rude manner. I had to make sure I had the correct change to pay for my order and paid for it. I waited more than 15 minutes for my food to be served. The woman at the register didn't serve my food when it was ready, so the guy in the kitchen had to serve my food. After, my food was served, the woman at the register made another rude facial expression at me. I am never coming back to this establishment again. This establishment needs to treat people with disabilities with dignity and respect. read more

Went here for the first time tonight. When I got home and started eating I found a metal shaving about 2 inches long in my lo mein. When I called the restaurant about it, the man on the phone asked me if it was a "long, thin piece" and that's exactly what it was. Some of the food was edible but my biggest issue was the fake food. They have a board with daily specials listed. I saw friend scallops. I figured they would be tiny scallops. Nothing amazing, my expectations for the scallops was very low. When I opened the to go box I saw big breaded scallops. I was taken back and wondered how they managed to sell these big scallops for about $10. I took a bite and realized it wasn't a scallop. It's was thin layers of dough made to look like a scallop. Haha maybe the worst customer service I've ever seen. The food is actually really good, probably the best Chinese food in the area. We continue to go here knowing that we will be treated horribly and that's part of the fun. What will the owner's horrible wife say to us this time? I was in town for business from out of state and my colleagues and I wanted Chinese and saw this local place. We have it a try and was very displeased with not only the food but also the terrible service. After ordering our food, my group of 10 sat down waiting. Once our food was ready the lady who took our order called out the order and we began moving the tables together so we could all talk and eat together. The staff yelled at us not to move the tables together, and then in the middle of our meal the lady who took our order confronted my colleague and stated "you no pay"! We all laughed because he had the receipt in his pocket and we told her he did but you were to disorganized by writing all our orders on a single receipt and lost track. She proceeds to go away and leave us to our lunch. The food was sub par Chinese food, I ordered the beef and broccoli combination plate and had 90% fried rice, and 9% broccoli and 1% beef. Another colleague ordered just friend rice and they put it only in those take out containers. She asked for a to go plate to eat with rather than eating it out of the box and the lady got very upset and said "this is how it comes, you don't need plate". After a minute of back and forth she finally got her plate. As we were getting up to leave, most of us couldn't finish the heaping load of rice so we asked for bags to carry out our food to save for later. The man behind the counter asked how many bags we needed and I said six. One for each of us, he said "you don't need 6, here's three". I laughed and now I am pissed and demanded 6 and got them and left. I certainly will never patronage this establishment ever again, the customers are the ones who keep them in business and frankly they need to rethink their business plan. Hit or miss as my husband's family describes this place. Great on good days, forgettable (not horrible) other days. Our last encounter was good. I don't think their portions are horribly small, but they are not large in comparison to other Chinese places we have been. They got our order right, made sure there was plenty of sauces and fortune cookies, and the bill for 5 take out combo plates was not painful. Dumplings- meat ok, dough too thick and somewhat chewy.
