This is a true seafood shack and I love it. I buy fish here (the freshest I gave ever had) and I have had lunch on their back deck (big wire spool tables overlooking fishing boats). The lobster rolls are a good deal (for MV) and terrific! The only pain is parking in Menemsha. I live it but boy is it a huge pain. It's easier to find street parking in Manhattan. But I suggest you go for it - the suffering pays off! read more

I like Menemsha (previously Poole's) Fish Market. I don't necessarily love it. The service here is top notch, but I have never had a complaint about service anywhere on the Vineyard (even when young teens are running a store -- something I've encountered nowhere else so consistently besides the Island). I just appreciate a place that will take a glance at your debit card and call you by your first name after that. The prices are a little higher than I like to pay, but if I don't know that's a Vineyard tax by now, I may as well just stay on the mainland. However, something is odd about $15 a pound for both red snapper AND lobster. And seriously - $15 a pound for red snapper? I don't know how much the mussels were but they were absolutely succulent. In fact, everything was extremely fresh and eaten with satisfied "Mmmmmm"s. When that's all your dinner guests can muster to say, you know it's good. Of course, it's a travesty for any seafood lover on the Vineyard NOT to buy some smoked bluefish pâté when given the chance. Hit up the cooler near the front doors and grab a tub. My mouth is watering just writing this. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Poole's keeping a barnacled 15-pound lobster in the bin with all of the 1-2 pounders. They aren't even good when they're that big! Throw him back or put him in his own tank. Geeesh. He's royalty at this point. read more

My wife and I ordered two fresh fish sandwiches. They were simple and amazing! I ordered the bluefish and my wife ordered the flounder, which they cut into chunks from the fresh fillets and steam before laying it on a fresh kaiser roll, topped with a slice of cheese which melts nicely, then you add tartar sauce and fresh squeeze lemon from the side. Order the bluefish. It makes for the better sandwich because it's an oily fish with dark meat (as they educated me) and the flavor and moistness topped the flounder. Even my wife agreed after the fact (she didn't want to order something that tasted "too fishy"). Ate them overlooking the fishing boats and fishermen doing their work. Yes, this place gets crazy busy, but for good reason. They do have awesome specials though. The young staff is very attentive and on point. Deal with the line, be courteous and hold the door open for the fellow person behind you, and hang on for awesome food! If you get upset, simply walk outside and look around. Enjoy! read more

This was absolutely horrible, they got our order wrong like 5 times, the shrimp was undercooked and underseasoned. The nachos were cold and unimpressive. Lobster roll was teeny tiny for $21.99 and also under seasoned. This was extremely underwhelming and this place is very overrated.. Well what a over rated place to eat! Tourtist trap !There is no place to sit! Chowder cold and in a tiny Dixie cup. Tiny cup and no room for crackers even. Lobster roll so skimpy it was ridiculous . I wanted to write a review because I just had the best oysters in my life. I'm a big fan of real people and small business. Menemsha Fish Market is as real as it gets. We ended up there from a recommendation from a client. There is not much open in the off season on the vineyard. The hours can be spotty in the off season, so call ahead. We have stopped in twice. First time Lobster bisque... excellent. Cold lobster roll also excellent. This second time I was headed there for steamers. There were none that day:( we were encouraged to try the fresh oysters. So grateful we did!!! Best oysters we've ever had. The shells were as large as my hand. We are spoiled for life. Thankyou for a wonderful lunch during the wonderful day we had. Walked over from Menemsha Beach for something to eat for lunch and wound up coming back for the sunset. My wife and I split a lobster roll and some shucked little necks for lunch, but dinner was the main event. We got two lobsters, clam chowder, and about 10 shrimp cocktail and a little thing of slaw for about $45. We just stopped in while walking around Menemsha. The place is small but you get the feeling the seafood is right off the boat - the docks are right out the back door. Service was friendly. Bought some cherrystones which were cheap enough - $13 for 2 dozen. They were huge - I was hoping for some smaller ones - this was my only disappointment. I think i should have stuck with my original idea of purchasing some oysters, but that's my problem. Also sampled some of the lobster bisque - it was delicious but we had just eaten lunch so I didn't buy any. Next time for sure! read more

There are 1 famous fish market in the Island and it is called Larsen but if you drive up then you would see this fish market first and think it was Larsen. Don't get me wrong, there nothing wrong w/this market but the fishes aren't as fresh and the lobster look alittle dead in the water. The people here are very friendly and helpful so that was a plus. Overall I wouldn't mind going in here if Larsen was closed. read more

Fantastic loberster roll for under $12. There was probably 3 lobsters worth of meat without having to do the work. Just a hint of mayo and celery. Perfect if you really want to enjoy lobster and not mayo or fixings. Was dissapointed by the lack of slaw or many other items that you would find at Larsen's next door but wanted to give Menemsha a try. They seem to coordinate pricing. I would still go to Larsen's in the future but nothing to complain about here. Maybe a bit more enthusiasm from the staff would have made a difference. read more

Seriously tasty meals. The bisque is awesome as are the fresh fish sandwiches. We tried the smoked scallops tonight, which we were delicious. They had a ton of gluten-free options, which made it much easier this year since a family member has dietary restrictions. This is definitely our go-to place. Worst crab cake I've ever had. A fried pattie with zero crab or seafood of any kind. Called to complain and was told it isn't their fault: they buy them frozen. Piece of advice: not having a crab cake at all is better than selling frozen terrible ones. Will take this down once fixed. read more

This place was recommended to us by a local, and we had a really good experience here. It's a very casual place, being a fish market and all, but being on a beautiful rocky beach, the scenery can't be beat! The prices were very reasonable, considering what you're getting. Is there such a thing as too much lobster? The hot lobster roll here is a little pricey but it is full of lobster. So much that I stopped enjoying the last few bites but hey I can't complain. Where else can you stuff big chunks of lobster in your mouth? The lobster bisque and clam chowder are pretty good here, one of the rare occassions where the clams actually taste fresh and good. They also sell fresh seafood and live lobster here - 8 pound lobsters that you don't get that often in the grocery! And apparently they ship all over United States too. read more

Underdog mentality here. Larsens gets the pub, but MFM has nicer staff and better bisque and chowder. Stuffed clams are amazing and lobster is lobster. Shorter lines here too. I recommend them over Larsens all day. read more
