Definitely a cute spot for millennials that aspire to get into the Mexican culture and be aesthetic at the same time. The presentation is nice, but that creates a longer wait time for mediocre food. My elote was room temperature at best and tasted mid. I wouldn't recommend the elotes sadly, for cheaper I can go outside a fiesta and get better tasting elote.

Mentriias is such a great little spot in TyPo! Street parking is usually pretty available, but you can also order online and they will run it out to you. The owner has always been there with a smile when I stop in and is so helpful to any new customers. He is eager to explain the menu and answer questions. I haven't tried all of the options, but the elotes, shakes, fresas con crema have been great. I stick with pretty classic flavors, but they have fun variations if you're more adventurous. The fresas con crema are probably my favorite and a must try if you like strawberries! I still want to try the pancakes and frosted lemonade next. read more

This place is so cute and fun. It's pretty small so be ready to eat in your car. The menu has such a variety of different things. I got the taki elote and it was so good and flavorful! They're not greedy with any of their toppings! The mini pancakes!!! I know it looks like a lot and that it would be crazy sweet but it's so balanced and so fresh! The pancakes were so warm and the fruit was so good! Now my favorite this was the gansito milkshake!!! It tastes just like an gansito !!! The best part was that i actually got to enjoy a milkshake and not feel sick afterwards because Im a lactose girly and usually a milk shake will mess me up but not this one! Im not sure what they put in it but i thank you for making a milk shake my stomach can tolerate! read more

Did not disappoint. I'd see these guys on instagram and had to see it for myself. Food They didn't go crazy with the menu like some smaller businesses do. They focused it on what they were good at and made the best version of that possible. Each dish is made with fresh high quality ingredients and gracious in their lathering. Service I can't say enough good about them. Not only do they take ownership of what they do. They do it with a smile. It's also to be applauded that this location seems to be owned and run by younger people. Ambience It's a simple place with not a lot of room but it all works together to keep a welcoming theme. read more

Pretty great spot. Amazing milk shakes and food, I definitely 100 percent recommend. The music is really good too. Got good style, and honestly, met the owner. Talked to him about how he opened up and he's a cool guy. There is only two people working. So when they get packed it's a longer wait. But it's definitely way worth the wait. Go get some now !!!! Mentiiras is the kind of place we need more of! Tucked inside a small storefront in Oak Cliff, Mentiiras offers "antojitos", or Mexican street food. They offer elotes (with classic, Cheeto, or Taki topping), agua frescas, mangonadas, lemonade, and breakfast burritos. I had randomly found it when I was searching Yelp for new places and saw delicious pictures of the fresas con crema which were originally a limited time special through Valentine's Day, but thankfully they extended the offering so I was able to try it! The owner Luis is very friendly and attentive. It's a really great little place that deserves lots of love! P.S. Luis made the temporary exterior sign, a nod to his filmmaking background. read more

Fuel City used to be a reliable local staple for a quick meal, but it has completely gone downhill…read more It has always been sketchy due to being right next to the jail, but it used to at least be tolerable for a cheap, late night bite. Now, there is absolutely zero reason to pull in here. Between the sketchy crowd, overpriced convenience store items, and garbage food safety, it is a complete rip off. I actually like their tacos, but the price increases have made them completely not worth it anymore. Eating 7 tacos pushes you over $20, which is sit down restaurant territory for some quick grab and go food. For the price of each taco, you will get two layers of tortilla with a sprinkle of meat and onion. Let's do the math: for the price of just two of these tacos, I can go to In N Out and get a Double Double. That gets me two 100% pure beef patties packing 37 grams of actual protein, and I will leave completely full. What am I supposed to do with two Fuel City tacos? Use them to fill the spaces between my teeth? Also, skip the snacks inside. They price gouge like crazy! Sometimes nearly 2x what you would pay at 7-Eleven or Tom Thumb (which are not even cheap to begin with). Last time I checked, a bag of Hot Cheetos here was 6 bucks! For perspective, they are $3.97 at Walmart and $4.79 at Target. It is a total rip off. The final straw was the horchata. I bought two cups at 6:00 PM, drank one, and put the second straight into the fridge. By midnight, it had completely curdled and turned sour. It was clearly spoiled and at the end of its shelf life when sold, and it gave me a case of the runs later that night. This place survives solely on ancient hype, out of town truck drivers, transients who do not know the area, and nighttime biker meet ups. No local should pay a massive premium for gas station tacos and food poisoning when authentic neighborhood taquerias and actual burger joints offer real value for a less money.

Unfortunately, everything else was a struggle from the moment we walked in. We didn't have reservations, but eventually found seats at the bar. Given how busy the place was, we figured the bar would mean faster, more attentive service. We were very wrong. We ordered two beers, a non-alcoholic drink, and three appetizers. The drinks arrived, and the appetizers followed about 10 minutes later -- fine so far. But there were no utensils. We had to ask for them, and we asked for plates as well, which never came. The empty dishes from our appetizers sat in front of us for a solid hour with no one clearing them. The bartender who took our order never once checked on us. With 3-4 people working behind the bar, only one server approached us during the entire 40-minute wait between appetizers and dinner to ask if we needed anything. The bartender told us twice that our food was "coming out shortly" -- and still, 40 minutes passed. When dinner finally arrived, my order was wrong. I ordered the Mongolian Short Rib, listed clearly under the Entree section of the menu. The bartender claimed I had ordered off a "happy hour" menu -- one I never saw or was told about -- and had swapped it for BBQ Pork Ribs without saying a word. Knowing a replacement could take another hour, my friend swapped plates with me and took the ribs. He had ordered the steak frites, which, for a rare steak, should have taken no more than 5-6 minutes to prepare. The third entree, fish and chips, was just okay -- a bit soggy and not particularly fresh. To top it all off, after everything we dealt with, the bartender never asked how our meal was or if we needed anything else. The food has potential, but the service was inattentive, disorganized, and frankly unacceptable for a busy restaurant that should know better.
