The tacos at Fuel City rival some of the best ones I've had in the Lone Star state, but bring cash and make sure to read the menu carefully - cheese, for example, is extra. I've had the pleasure of visiting Fuel City in both Haltom and Dallas, both providing delicious tacos, fun taxidermy, and some live animals to boot. Fuel City used to be a reliable local staple for a quick meal, but it has completely gone downhill. It has always been sketchy due to being right next to the jail, but it used to at least be tolerable for a cheap, late night bite. Now, there is absolutely zero reason to pull in here. Between the sketchy crowd, overpriced convenience store items, and garbage food safety, it is a complete rip off. I actually like their tacos, but the price increases have made them completely not worth it anymore. Eating 7 tacos pushes you over $20, which is sit down restaurant territory for some quick grab and go food. For the price of each taco, you will get two layers of tortilla with a sprinkle of meat and onion. Let's do the math: for the price of just two of these tacos, I can go to In N Out and get a Double Double. That gets me two 100% pure beef patties packing 37 grams of actual protein, and I will leave completely full. What am I supposed to do with two Fuel City tacos? Use them to fill the spaces between my teeth? Also, skip the snacks inside. They price gouge like crazy! Sometimes nearly 2x what you would pay at 7-Eleven or Tom Thumb (which are not even cheap to begin with). Last time I checked, a bag of Hot Cheetos here was 6 bucks! For perspective, they are $3.97 at Walmart and $4.79 at Target. It is a total rip off. The final straw was the horchata. I bought two cups at 6:00 PM, drank one, and put the second straight into the fridge. By midnight, it had completely curdled and turned sour. It was clearly spoiled and at the end of its shelf life when sold, and it gave me a case of the runs later that night. This place survives solely on ancient hype, out of town truck drivers, transients who do not know the area, and nighttime biker meet ups. No local should pay a massive premium for gas station tacos and food poisoning when authentic neighborhood taquerias and actual burger joints offer real value for a less money. read more

In my wild party days, this was always my go to spot to go around 4am to grab a meal after a night of partying. On this visit, I was sober and came with my friends to grab dinner. I discovered that this place is just as good whether intoxicated or not! The atmosphere inside and outside was just as lively as a late night but without the super long lines. I had a steak burrito with all the toppings and a chicken taco. The burrito was a nice size (I ate over 2 meals) and the steak was very flavorful. The taco was also just as good as I remembered but needing a little extra moisture and seasoning. The included sauces did the trick (green is a LOT milder than red). I also grabbed an elote at a stand outside which was also just as amazing as I remembered. This will forever be a go to spot of mine when in Dallas! The nostalgia!!!! read more

Fuel City Tacos in Dallas was busy even at 2:45 AM, with about 15 people in line and a 20-minute wait for food. I ordered the barbacoa and chicken fajita tacos. Unfortunately, about half of the barbacoa was fat, which was disappointing, and the chicken fajita was bland and lacking flavor. One random Saturday, we decided to head south and stopped at Fuel City. Note that the taco stand is cash only. I ordered Piccadillo and carne asada tacos and also picked up a cup of elote from the little stand out front. We ended up eating our tacos on the tailgate with the Dallas skyline as our view. Super simple but honestly so perfect. After that we wandered behind the car wash to go look at the longhorns and a couple of donkeys just chilling in the Texas sun. Idk why we waited so long to do this but it was such a cute, inexpensive little date idea. Also this gas station has the BEST snacks, stuff you won't find anywhere near us. I am absolutely disgusted and furious. I found a literal joint cooked inside my quesadilla. Not near the food. Not on the tray. IN the food. I had it in my mouth and had to pull it out before swallowing. That is beyond unacceptable that is a serious health and safety violation. I immediately tried calling the restaurant multiple times to report what happened and request a refund, and no one would pick up the phone. The complete lack of accountability on top of something this extreme is unreal. If you're cooking drugs into customers' food and then dodging calls, that tells me everything I need to know about how this place is run. This isn't funny. This isn't a "mistake." This is unsanitary, dangerous, and honestly shocking. I will be contacting the health department because customers should not have to worry about foreign objects let alone drugs being cooked into their meals. Back in town again and so stopping by FCT is a must. They have tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. When you order you choose type of meat (see menu pic), corn or flour tortilla, and add or drop cilantro and onions (grilled or raw). They have breakfast tacos/burritos in the morning too. Quality is still great. Parking is to the right of the station. The second row has Tesla chargers now. There is still a stand that sells Mexican street corn. The neighborhood is still pretty bad. Consequently, recommend you either eat in your car or take it to go rather than use the outdoor seating. Besides the tourists and business people, most of the people in line and milling around the station look like pretty rough characters. read more

I placed my order and picked up a cup of the best street corn while my good was being prepared. A few minutes later my tacos were ready and what I love is that I've never had an issue with getting my order exactly as ordered!!!
