    Bacon & Cheese Croquettes

We ordered the Bandeja Jíbara, the Bacon & Cheese Croquettes, and the Cuban Sandwich, everything was delicious. I was recommended the Espresso Martini, so I ordered it, and yes, I really liked it. Bryan asked me what I thought, and I told him I did love it, but my sister's still holds first place. Still, their Espresso Martini definitely takes second place in my book. The service from Jimbo and Bryan was perfect. Everyone was so sweet and welcoming. I would definitely come back!

    Meat omelet with French toast.

Food was great. Perla was a good server. The environment was great and well ventilated with the doors and windows open. Would come back.

Broken eggs. Good, but not as good as the Benedict.

This place was so good, we decided to eat here both mornings in San Juan. My recommendation: the Eggs Benedict. Wife loved the stuffed French Toast, but couldn't even finish half of it. Coffee was great, as were the mimosas. Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance was awesome - a little warm later in the day, but nice breeze when we went earlier.

Great atmosphere, fun waiters, good food! Our fave restaurant so far! It won't disappoint!

Couldn't beat a window seat overlooking Old San Juan, with a delicious latte and outstanding avocado toast. Friendly service, fine fare, excellent coffee.

This review is for a Saturday Brunch, I'm sure they serve other meals and they're great but I'm saying go for brunch! We arrived around 11:20 on Saturday and the only seats available were at the bar. We gladly took them and I was so impressed by how breezy and light it felt inside. The open windows let just the right amount of sunlight in and the fans kept the flies and the heat away from our experience. The lovely bartendress arrived promptly to discuss brunch cocktails and I ordered a cava sangria and my friend ordered a mimosa made with carribean cherries. They were divine, especially when enjoyed with a hot buttered Mallorca. It was our first time trying the local bread and we really enjoyed it. The powdered sugar was reminiscent of a beignet but mixed with a soft, light bread instead of fried crisp. For our meals, my friend instantly spotted the chicken and waffles and I was craving a more savory item so I selected the Bandera Jibara. We were both thrilled with our food when it arrived. The chicken pieces were generous and fried to perfection atop the giant waffles. My bandera jibara was easily two meals. A Fried egg, served atop pork, with avocado, rice and beans, (so much) bacon and sweet plantains. I ate as much as I could at brunch and even more later as leftovers. The staff was seemingly having fun playing excellent music and laughing with each other and with us. It was the perfect brunch vibe. We were sad for it to end!

Perfect! Ambience, food, drinks, and if you're lucky you get Jim Cruise as your bartender.

    Best omelette!

Great food and great service in the heart of Old San Juan. Feature in Guy Fieri's DDD. What else is there to say!

Kept seeing a bunch of reviews on how amazing this place was and honestly it's up there…read more To start off, I'm not really a sweets guy so my take is going to be a little off from the general public. We were able to snag a reservation but for a late time which was about an hour and a half before close. The service was super great but one thing I wished they mentioned that the bottled water was going to be a $40 charge lol. Makes sense for any upscale restaurant though. Should've mentioned we wanted tap so fair warning, ask cause you WILL get charged haha. We had a group of 10 and for how big the group was, the food came out pretty fast. I don't think we ever had a time between drinks to entrees where we were waiting for food to come out. We got the watermelons mojito for drinks since it was the most raved about. It was good but personally nothing crazy for me. 8/10 score on that. We also curry popcorn chicken, the ahi tuna lollipops, the empanadillas and the goat cheese quesadillas for apps and honestly overall 9/10. This is where I don't like the sweetness part of this meal. The empanadillas were what I was most excited for but it was more sweet then savory which sort of lose my appetite a little. I think if you like that kind of taste then it's going to be good. It wasn't a bad taste at all. Just too sweet for my liking. The curry popcorn chicken was good and the lollipops were great. Again, nothing crazy. The goat cheese quesadillas was good as well but again, too sweet for my liking. Now on to the entree, they didn't have the porkchop since we came late so I ended up getting the porkchop belly dish. When it came out, it looked amazing but then I got a whiff of it and smelled cinnamon. That's when I was sort of disappointed. It was like eating pork but tasting Cinnamon Toast Crunch and as said before, it tasted great but too sweet for me. This one was way too sweet to where it seemed like a dessert item. I just had poor luck and got one of the one items that were sweet. This doesn't tank the rating down whatsoever because I also should've read it had cinnamon. It would've been great if they made a dipping sauce or something to pair it with and not have it on the pork belly itself. I got to try other dishes my friends got which were good as well but I wish I got to try something else. If I came back I would try the sold out item which was the pork shank or the sea bass. I know for a fact the sea bass was amazing. Had a bite of it and thought "I'll come back for that" Overall, 10/10 experience and nothing bad about the place but gotta try different items when I go next time. I understand the hype now

Not only that, she made it weeks in advance because reservations are hard to come by. We arrived for dinner before reservation time and we attempted to open the front door. It was locked, so we along with two other couples, walked to see if there was a side entrance.. Nope! We kept walking to the rear and stopped a random parking lot attendant that shirt had a different restaurant's name on it. He asked us if we had reservations for Santaella and we said yes, and he directed us to a rear entrance. Once inside, my friend realized this was NOT Santaellas but a rooftop restaurant with an entirely different name. Visibly perturbed, she asked our server QUESTIONS! He said, it's the same restaurant, however, only the rooftop is open on Sundays and it's named Azotea.. WHAT?!? LOL! Because we took an Uber, we decided to stay a while. The menu was extremely limited, but we decided to try the Tamarind margaritas, which were really good, along with two appetizers, the tuna lollipops and the pulled pork quesadilla. Both VERY good, but the dinner menu was lacking. That said, I suggested we go to STK for the seafood tower that I had my eye on the evening before, so we exited stage right! Shame on Santaella for accepting reservations through Open Table knowing full well they are not open. I'm giving them two stars because Azotea was decent but it definitely wasn't what she was going for!

Everything we ordered was very good, and on an extremely hot day, I was especially appreciative of how well the A/C was keeping up. I was actually a little cold--and I'm never cold. It felt so nice after getting overheated right before we got there. One thing I noticed while wandering around Old San Juan is that some restaurants likely survive on location and foot traffic alone, while others earn people seeking them out. Semilla definitely felt like the latter. It's tucked just around the corner from some of the busiest pedestrian areas, so it felt like we escaped the crowds for a little while without actually going very far. Overall, I'd happily come back. If you're staying nearby and looking for a good meal without being surrounded by the busiest tourist crowds, Semilla is well worth checking out.

AMBIANCE You're in the city so it's an eventful area. There's street parking and nearby lots but your best to carpool or rideshare. As for the vibes, I'm told in the daytime it's a local marketplace that's filled with vendors and other fresh produce booths. It's pretty chill with a nice neighborhood feel. As for the evening, this is where to turn up and get a pulse of Puerto Rico parties. EXPERIENCE Go to your bar, pick your vibe from community, club excessive, lounge feel, live music or etc. Drink choices rangeThey have it here! Plenty of photo op spots and good energy. I was here peak of the #DTMF era so it was magical to see people come together with a speaker and a cowbell. A local put into perspective how this was way better than paying for an expensive hotel party. It was truly a 1 of 1 experience. TL;DR OVERALL 5 Stars. It doesn't get any better. There's a reason why this space is dropped in lyrics and people's recommendations because this is the heart of the people. So don't be shy! Grab a drink, walk around, catch a dance, and be safe! Review #1,047 Posted on 4.26.26…read more We came to La Placita on Thursday the 23rd, when in town to celebrate my buddies 50th birthday. I guess this was purposefully done as I've heard it's nuts here on Fridays & Saturdays. When you get dropped off at the main road when you walk down it takes you to all the action in a few hundred feet. This place was still packed, but it was popping, the place to be at night I'd guess. They've got all JJ da of restaurants, bars, & clubs here. Tons of music, & a good time.
