I should have really read all the reviews before taking my car in for service. I read the filtered reviews and everything negative about the service department is true. I took my SUV in for an oil change a few weeks ago and that part was fine. When I was leaving, Marshall told me I had to get my timing belt replaced and handed me a $700+ quote and tried to sell it to me by telling me all the services that were "included" in the price. I told him I could not afford it and asked if I could keep the quote. He said yes and basically ignored me till I left. When I got home I contacted 2 other Toyota dealerships in the area and was surprised to receive very different quotes on a timing belt replacement for my exact make and model from each dealership. I called the best priced dealership, confirmed the price was not a mistake and then called Merced Toyota to tell them about the different price and to see if they would match prices since it is obviously more convenient to go to the local dealership. I was told over the phone (not from Marshall) that the reason the other dealership was giving me a low price was because it was only for the timing belt replacement parts and labor cost and that it was the same price at Merced Toyota. I was annoyed that Marshall tried to sell me close to $800 in services for things I didn't need and never told me I had the option to simply pay for a t-belt replacement. Anyhow, I made an appointment, specifically asked for a different advisor I preferred working with and when I arrived, was told I had to work with Marshall since he took care of my car the last time I was in. Marshall gave me my pre-quote and it was not the price I wrote down the day before. When I questioned him, he tried to tell me the pre-quote he was giving me was the retail price and that I had been given a different price (he didn't say wholesale) over the phone. I repeated my question 3 times with different wording and the fool couldn't give me an adequate explanation of the price discrepancy so I asked for a few minutes to make a phone call and watched as he huffed out of the service "office" and demanded to know what price I was given over the phone from his co-worker. I called the dealership with the lower price, confirmed their price for like the third timem, asked if they were going to do a bait and switch on me if I drove out there and then after getting a name and an advisor who explained their coupon specials for me told Marshall I would be going to the other dealership. He tried to tell me I was talking about a $20 difference in price and I told him about the extra 15% off I would be getting. Marshall is a fool. Services are not JUST about the money. It is about the experience and for the principle, yes I am totally willing to rack up my gas and mileage to get a job done elsewhere and end up spending a similar amount of money than if I stayed with some pompous idiot in Merced. Why would I choose to put food on the table for a fat prick and help him with his job if there's a nicer person with actual manners who can do the same job for a lower/similar price? I've received 3 emails and 2 phone calls from Merced Toyota since my oil change two weeks ago asking about my experience and "reminding" me that I have services due. I've let them know I won't be returning to their dealership and hope that the owner of this dealership learns to invest some time and money into professionalizing his staff and teaching them about customer relations. read more

The service I received was subpar. The service man that worked on my vehecial was wonderful and very helpful! Under a stressful time, he was reassuring and offered great options. Micheal in the parts and services department was least helpful and went out of his way to be inconsiderate and rude. I am still very upset with the service I received at Merced Toyota. I understand that nothing will likely happen to ensure that Micheal doesn't treat other customers with the disrespect I received, but all I can do is make it a point to never go back to Merced Toyota. I'm sure I'm not the first costumer to feel this way about Micheal but I hope I am not the last to voice my concern. He is a poor representation of what I think Toyota is and it is unfortunate that Merced Toyota encourages and supports that behavior. read more

Brought in my prius to have the brake fluid changed. Was quoted $80 but when I went to pick it up, they wanted $150. Their reasoning was that the hybrid models require the brake control module to be bled and that it was extra work over the standard brake fluid change. I paid the fee, vowing to respond to the additional charges. I called several dealerships in the area (Modesto, Fresno, Madera) and all mentioned that they do not charge extra for the hybrids when doing a brake fluid flush. I also consulted the factory service manual and determined that it is part of the standard procedure on the hybrids to bleed the brake control module. Overall, I find their business to be quite unethical and poor if they are charging extra for what the factory states is the proper way to perform the procedure. I was also not notified prior to them performing what they claimed to be additional work. What a bait & switch . . . . fortunately I involved my credit card company and they handled the situation for me. read more

Sad part is the car still is not sold 2-3 months later and the price is lowered down closer to my asking price? We went to Merced Toyota to investigate a Honda Element that they had on cars.com. We were happy with their treatment of us, and in fact, wound up buying the car. They were reasonable during the negotiation, and actually gave us our price, rather than letting us go have lunch. So I went hungry for another hour or so, and saved five hundred bucks :). The wait in the customer stew area - you know, while the salesman goes and asks his manager - was minimal. The second wait - after the deal was agreed on - was rather long. It was explained to us that the finance manager had the day off, and the person who was doing the paperwork was not used to it. Multiple apologies were tendered for the wait. When Hayward Toyota would not honor their ad "5 at this price" I began the hunt for a RAV4 online. The first dealer to meet the ad price was Merced Toyota. I drove from the East Bay Area, test drove the RAV4 did the paperwork, and drove off with my new vehicle. The experience was amazing. The folks treated me as a valued customer, answering all my questions, describing details of the RAV4 and did not haggle. Having bought a number of cars in my lifetime I did experience many times the high pressure sales tactics which left me feeling horrible for months and left me with no dealership loyalty. 1) I contacted the dealership for a 2017 Tacoma. When I inquired about the Tacoma, the BDC Consultant informed me it was sold. WRONG. It was still sitting on the lot. I contacted the general sales manager. 2) I screenshot the $28,048 price listed on-line.  But when it came to negotiations, the salesperson appeared with the $32K internet price that the BCD consultant had sent.  I told him that wasn't acceptable and that I had screenshot the images in an e-mail the night before.  The sales person said he was getting the numbers off the paperwork and that is when I excused myself. I didn't drive from Galt to Merced to barter price.  I was willing to pay the $28,048 price as listed on 10-16-17. Plus the general sales manager assured me that he wanted to earn my business. 3.) Be careful. Here is a copy of an email that was sent to me after the experience. Hello [customer name]. I want to start off by saying thank you for coming in. I have been off for the last couple of days and my team has updated me on what has been going on. Purchased a car there over a year ago it was horrible. The person I was working with just had to run to someone else when I asked questions about price etc. Why not just bring the big decision maker out to me so I can cut out the middle man (literally) .... anyways they wanted to give me the ar on E and I was gonna pay full price didnt ask for $1.00 off sticker and to hassle me about the gas. I requested the windows be tinted they threw a fit. Anyways it was the car I wanted so I sucked it up. I sold the car in December and tried to get my GAP refund since it was due back to me ..... dealt with the Albert? Faxed what he needed the next day called to confirm he got it said he did and was already faxed to the gap place. Lone and behold 2 months later no refund. Do not get service from this place! I took my brand new toyota camry to this place for 5,000 mile maintenance service. I had made an appt through the online appt system on their website and chosen shuttle service. When I got there I was told that the online system made an appt when they were already overbooked. I was told to come back another day but really is this my fault? I gave this place another try on a different service and I was disappointed again. The wait is way too long and the service does not meet standards. I now take my car to Modesto Toyota even though I live in Atwater. Save your time and avoid frustration and go to Modesto instead! read more

I wanted to write this review to let other perspective buys know of our TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, not to mention UNPROFESSIONAL experience we had at this dealership. They do not even deserve the lowest one star rating--will not be going back and will be warning relatives to take their business and money else where. Late July, we went up to their dealership looking for a Rav4. They told us they had one coming in that was almost built. We said okay and agreed on a price. Days of waiting turned into weeks. No one from dealership bothered calling us to update us. Each time we called, we just got the run around. To their credit, They did give us a loaner car, authorized by one of their managers. Days of waiting turned into weeks. By Labor Day week-end, Monday, we called them up and said that we couldn't wait any longer for the Rav4. They offered us a Camry Hybrid. Considering the amount of driving we do in our line of work, we made the decision to drive from where we live (Fresno) to Merced to see the Camry. They told us that we just needed to be there before their closing time, 9pm. They told us we had to go in order to "lock in their labor day rebate." We drove up in their loaner car, and got to the dealership before 8:30pm. Once there, we did decide to do paperwork to buy the Carmy. By the time we were done with paperwork, it was close to 10:30 pm. All other depts in the dealership was closed, except sales. The Camry was in no shape to be delivered to a customer that had just purchased a $30K+ car. It was dusty, dirty, and the gas gauge was empty. (In fact when my mother saw this car the next day, she said "Is this the new car???" We thought we would be driving back home in the loaner car. Boy, we were wrong. GEROGE, the manager on duty that night is nothing short of an ogre, that can throw a temper tantrum of a 2 year old. He YELLED, and YELLED. At one point I thought he was going to punch my husband. That's when I got up and walked into his office. He said if we dared to take car home (the car THEY LOANED US, WITH PAPERWORK TO PROVE), he would be calling the police and report the car as being stolen. He said If we did not want to take the Camry home, we would have to just walk home--to Fresno, at close to 11pm by now. We tried to reason with him and told him that our intention was to come back early the next morning bring a cashier's check to pay for the Camry in full and we didn't feel comfortable taking a car home that was not paid for. Hopefully by then, the they would have to opportunity to wash and detail the car as well. He yelled back at us and told us, did we think we were the first to be able to cash a car in full. My husband even offered to drive to car off the lot and bring it back so they can technically call if ours. He said not possible either. So in the end, we took the the Camry home. Had to drive from Fresno to Merced on another day in the Camry to bring them the cashier's check and wasted almost 2 business hours as we waited for them to wash/detail the car and explain the features. My question is, is this dealership so behind is sales that they would have to stoop to this behavior to make sure their sales numbers are met???? It also says something about Toyota HR. Why do you have people like this working for you??? WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE experience in my whole life!!!! read more

ok.. the saga continues. sooo.. after exhaustive diagnosis of the clicking sound in my left front tire... they say bearings, are ok but my axle has a small slit in it... the next day... my son drivies my car and the tire preassure light comes on... but all tires.. are fine... so now I'm back at Toyota... theyre saying nothing they did could have caused this... just a coincidence that my system malfunctioned the very next day... I'm waiting for the verdict now.... ok, turns out my sensors are 9 years old.. probably time for replacement... Toyota service dept is trying to keep me happy by giving one sensor for their cost: $65... which i do appreciate.. their effort seems genuine... they'll be making a lot of money on me, though, over the next few months.. i have upgraded they rating thanks to the efforts of Tod Schaffer.. stay tuned... I had been looking for a new Corolla for for at least two years before I finally settled on my 2015 back in July. I had visited Merced Toyota at least two times before finally being called by Martin after he saw that my 2003 Corolla had 280k miles on it. He asked if I wanted to consider a new Corolla so I went in not expecting to fall for a beautiful Corolla S Plus. He showed me all the features of the car and waited patiently while I thought about it. After like 3 hours, I was ready to sign the paper work and drove off in my beautiful new Corolla. Thank you, Martin and Robert for being so patient with me while I made my decision! The service department is great as well! After having my car for a month and a half, someone dinged my car and I took it in to have it taken care of. I've gone in for routine service as well and my car has been well taken care of. I just recently got a car from Toyota Merced after falling victim to a bad accident that totaled my truck. At first I was contemplating another dealer but after talking with Chris Sanchez (Service Advisor for Toyota Merced) I jumped in with both feet. His honesty was amazing. He was kind and truly got my attention with the deals Toyota Merced was having. He connected me with Greg Renwick who is lead in internet sales and I ended up getting a brand new 2016 vehicle with zero (yes, zero) money down. His straight forward non-pushy attitude was just what I desired. (I absolute hate those people that are "Extra Pushy" to sell). Either way, Chris connected me to Greg Renwick (Internet Sales), who then finalized my papers with Bill Peters (Finance) and well, Bill was the icing on this car cake. It was like I counted to 100 and everything was complete! All three were amazing, they really have my loyalty and I couldn't have asked for greater service and experience! Well I had another service. Same results. It took 4+ hours to install a part that was supposed to take an hour. I also had a I couldn't go anywhere else because they had the part. They said the service was done, but then they said they forgot to do someting. One bright spot is the place has been updated, but it is much like putting lipstick on a pig. One word of advice DON'T GO HERE. They are the worst. Don't just take my opinion. Read the reviews. Most are one or two stars. Go, no run to Modesto or Fresno Toyota. read more

I wasn't aware that oil changes are appointment only. When I called, the manager of the service center told me it's ok to stop by for an oil change just ask for him when I get there. I drove 20 min only to find that he was on break, when I asked someone at the desk if I could get an oil change they gave me a solid 10 second silent stare then asked me if I have an appointment. I waited another 20 min for "rob" the manager, no one showed up so I left. read more

If I can give toyota Merced a negative star I would this service place sucks!!! Okay so July 14,2020 they do my brakes done supposedly cause I backed out my driveway this morning and guess what they still squeal so maybe they didn't check my car right and fixed the wrong part. Then on the the tire situation that they caused for not checking my car properly one june 23,2020 and back in November 2019 they didn't notice that my tires were cupping in November when they fixed my wheel bearing that mostly likely caused the cupping but since they didn't do their job right my two of my tires are cupped and didn't notice one of my tires is separated. What kind of work does toyota do I guess none if they inspect the cars every 5000 miles for the first two years and never did they say my tires are bad and my car is still not 2 years old til September. So back to Todd Shaffer he is full of shit put blame on American tires for messing up my tire cause they fixed a flat on my car a few months ago and says that the tire was not balanced and that is the reason my tires cupped! Well guess what Todd Shaffer tires don't get cupped from not getting balanced right if my tires wouldn't have gone balanced right I would have noticed the moment I drove the care! So you are full of it and Just cause your master mechanics as worked 25 plus years doesn't mean they don't make mistakes or over look jobs! And you complaining that fixing my car comes out of your pocket well my car is under warranty and if I take the car back three to four times and the problem isn't fixed then it's your responsibility to fix it you just don't want to lose any more that you get everything the less cars you fix the more money you get so you toyota service center workers try to fix less cars that are under warranty so Todd Shaffer takes a bigger cut at the end of the month! You treat the paying customer better than the customer that has the car still under warranty oh and you forgot to see why my car had low brake fluid when I got an oil change did you check if there is a leak or the brakes were in really bad condition. But of course that wind bring you any money so your master mechanic or mechanics didn't check that out cause you didn't have them check the tires cause you would of realized all my tires are bad!! So toyota doesn't do there job right so when you go in there to get service done maker sure you get proof that they actually did check your car out!! Cause they didn't check my car properly they missed very important things on it!!! The master mechanic said the rear tire changed it from tires has cupping due to imbalance the recommend to replace tire but if they would have checked my car properly they would have seen all four tires are bad one has detaching (separation) on the inside of the tire but not all the way around just on half the tire so they said it is dangerous to drive like that your tire needs to be replaced. So what is going on with toyota more worried about how much they are spending to fix the car they didn't inspect properly!! read more
