Very disappointed with my experience at Merced Toyota. My fiancé and I have been looking for a new car for a couple weeks now. We decided to go through the Costco Program for better pricing, but the closest dealer to us was Merced Toyota.(We are 1 1/2 hours south of Merced) We looked online, found a few vehicles and we scheduled an appointment to go and see the car. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the Costco associate and he immediately told us that nobody wanted us to test drive the car we went in for because we would be getting it at such a low price through Costco that they wouldn't be making money off of it and it was such a popular car that had a lot of interest in it, they didn't want us to see it, but he was going to anyways. They brought the car around and we test drove it and instantly fell in love with the car. When we went inside to talk about pricing, another associate came and showed us the pricing and continued to explain to us that he really didn't want to sell us the car because of the price we would be getting it at. (It was about a $6,000 difference) We jumped at the price and asked if they would appraise our car which we would be using for a trade in. They took the keys and checked out vehicle. When they came back, they told us that they could give us $1,276 for our 2012 Chrysler 300. We had it appraised at 2 other dealerships for $6,500-$7,000. We even had the print outs showing their estimates. When I explained to them that I felt that was very unfair and we had other offers all we were told is that we should go to whoever offered us that price and that they would make more money selling the car if it wasn't through the Costco program anyways. From the very beginning we were told that they didn't want to make this sale to us because they wouldn't be making money. It was such a frustrating experience and I have relayed all of the information to the Costco Auto Program. Even with the pricing, it was a terrible experience. The only positive encounter we had was with Ivan. He was very calm with us and still tried to make it work even when his coworkers and manager were acting this way. I was so excited and had already told people about the amazing prices through the Costco Program and this dealership and now I am having to make this review in hopes that something like this doesn't happen to anyone else. I have already reached out to the Costco Auto Program and explained everything and they have sent me to another dealership to work with. read more

The rating system won't let me give 0 stars so 1 will have to do. Sales is very pushy will REFUSE to go lower than MSRP. I was very persistant and finally got them to budge for $800 off MSRP, they wouldn't put it in writing. RED FLAG. I couldn't put a deposit down on the vehicle I wanted either unless they ran my credit. I refused for them to run my credit and they told me it was 'store policy' to run credit. This is bologna, google if a car dealership has to run your credit or not for buying a car, dozens state no. And Manager there is extremely rude. Avoid this place, they try to seem like the good guys when in fact they use silly tactics to have you walk in the door and sell you a car at a marked up price. read more

This review isn't about buying or servicing a car here, it's more about the exceptional customer service I received from a service rep there named KP. So, one day my kid is driving home from the bay area and breaks down on Hwy 5, near this dealership. We arrange to tow the car here and, after having it diagnosed, it's determined that the engine is fried. All this occurs right at the start of the whole Covid thing. KP gives us an estimate to replace the engine and between that and keeping our small business afloat, our decision drags on for several weeks. BTW, we live in SoCal, so everything was done remotely via phone calls and text messages. After a few more weeks of procrastinating, we decide to donate the car. Well, that's another story in of itself, but needless to say, it was fiasco as we went round and round with towing company for the donation group we chose. Now, we're down the road several months and the "wreck of a car" is there at the dealership! All the while, KP and his good natured way, continues to follow-up periodically to see how everything was coming along. Ultimately, we arrange for another donation company to pick-up the car. In the end, KP was extremely patient with us and assisted us during a difficult time. Oh, and more thing, the dealership never charged us a thing for storing the car there, for what ended up being several months. Kudo's to KP and Merced Toyota! read more

I was in on Saturday 1/28/17 for a 1030 service appointment. I worked with Richard Gonzalez and he walked me through the registering as a new customer with their facility and provide information needed for future scheduling and possible fees. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He advised that if it was a weekday appointment the car could be detailed as well. The staff in the facility was very polite and while I waited came to check on me regularly. I am going to be going back based on customer service received. I went to Merced Toyota to buy my first ever new car. My experience there was horrible. I only went there because 1) the salesperson that called me was of the same ethnicity as I was and I thought he'd help me out a bit (NOT) and 2) because Merced was my hometown. Going in, I had a pre-approved auto loan from my bank to work with and for a good 4+hrs or so was haggling back and forth from these guys, until in the end the manager just brushed the salesman aside and dealt with me directly. Even then they were still as pushy as ever, and I wasted almost a whole day there to haggle down a Prius C trim2 to my liking...even then they weren't giving me the deal through Toyota for 1.9%APR for 60months, and I came out signing a 3%APR for 60months because I needed a car for work and I was too stupid to have wasted my weekend haggling with them and not gone elsewhere. In the end, I would say I should've done more research before going in and also did everything online with a solid quote in hand before even stepping foot in a dealership (it's the 21st century now and going to the dealership before having a solid quote is just a plain waste of time). So some fault was on my end. However, most of the fault of me wasting almost a whole day I blame on these greedy guys...because even though I signed a 3% APR finance, Toyota Financial did there part of the paperwork and sent me a notice in the mail 3 weeks after that I qualified for their special 1.9% APR, and they had reduced my 3% to 1.9%. Shame on the salesperson (who as a old saying in my ethnicity goes, "the chinese brew their own medicine...which figuratively means people of the same origin should help their own), who didn't even try to help me a bit other than ring me into the dealership that day for his own and the dealer's commission. and shame on the dealership for being greedy POS BUT anyway, I've had the car for a good solid 6+ months now and Me and my wife like it so much, I got another one for my wife from another dealership (NOW HAD MY EXPERIENCE HERE BEEN BETTER, I WOULD'VE BROUGHT MY BUSINESS BACK TO THESE GUYS, BUT NO) easily for the 0% APR 60month special Toyota is having at the end of this year at a much reduced price tag... So that just means this dealership is out for itself and will not help to get a good deal for a customer...SO THEY WILL NEVER EVER GET ME AS A CUSTOMER AGAIN!!! read more

On a trip from LA to San Francisco, driving my 90-year-old Dad north for some family gatherings, we made a detour to Yosemite, where my 2007 Prius broke down in the Valley - Thursday night before Easter weekend. Describing the symptoms to my home Toyota contact in Glendale, he urged me to get it to the closest Toyota center ASAP, so Friday morning AAA towed it to Merced, where we arrived, unannounced and semi-traumatized (the first gathering was for 6:30 that evening), before assistant service manager Rob Hampton. My Dad had not slept well - this trip was looking like a catastrophe - but as the coolness and comfort of Merced Toyota restored him, the tech quickly established that the big ($$$$) battery was kaput. They ordered another one straightaway, and Rob told us that it would be ready Tuesday afternoon. The good news was (1) the battery was under warranty, so would be replaced for free, (2) we wouldn't be charged for the inspection/diagnosis, and (3) they had a deal with Enterprise and could get us a rental at their corporate rate. But the bad news turned out to be that, right before Easter weekend, there were no cars available. So Rob got permission, from his boss, then his boss's boss, to lend (not rent) us a car off the lot: specifically, a 2013 Camry in perfect shape. We were out by 4pm, and made it to the family meet with time to pick up a bottle of wine for the dinner. So how many "impossible" obstacles had been overcome, thanks to Rob and the crack staff at Merced Toyota? I count seven (taking us quickly, analyzing the problem correctly, not taking financial advantage, arranging a rental, arranging a loaner, fixing the problem, and doing everything on our very tight schedule). Plus the coffee was free, and everyone was as kind and low-stress as they were quick and efficient. NO ONE made us feel like we were putting them out (quite the opposite), and the car was ready exactly when they said it would be - at no charge for anything. If I have ever had a car or service experience this good, I don't remember it. And the best thing? My Dad (who is a lifelong professor of engineering [emeritus] at MIT, and has crazy high standards) was so impressed by the quality and efficiency of the work that he was in a great mood by the time we left Merced, and had a fine time with the family that weekend. read more

I went to Merced Toyota to buy a car and everything was going great!! until I had to deal with the finance manager. I had seen the car online and wanted the online price so I asked them to lower the sticker price. The manager became angry and started shouting "Are fucking serious?!" "do you see what I have to deal with?" he asked a staff member, he was loud and red in the face. I could not believe what I was seeing and hearing. but I held my ground because come on, why would they advertise on THEIR own website, a price they could not guarantee? but he became even more angry and rude. storming out of his office and complaining because I asked for the Carfax. "Why is she asking for the Carfax is she's not even sure she's gonna buy the car" this really pissed me off because big dealers like this have contracts with Carfax and so they've already paid to have the Carfax and don't have anything more to lose by providing them. and anyone with half a brain would ask for them when buying a used car.( I don't buy cars that have been in accidents.) anyway at the end they told me that they would much rather sell me a different car than to lower the sticker price. At this point I began asking myself if I wanted to buy a car from here at all. After all the Honda dealer is across the street and Razzarri is just next door. it was a good price and I had my heart set on it but after the finance manager's hissy fit, I decided it was not worth all this trouble. but I had to return the next day because I left my Ls there. when I went to pick up my Ls the finance manager saw me and gave me a really dirty look. This was the straw that broke the camels back. I asked for the general manager and told him what happened and he apologized and was willing to give me the online price, but honestly I didn't even want the car anymore. I would be stupid to give them my money after being treated that way. I cant believe they have someone this rude and unprofessional on their team. Don't come here for your vehicle if you can find it somewhere else. This place is full of unprofessional staff, after they sell you a vehicle they are done with you. I purchase a 2018 Toyota Tacoma form them. I call them about my navigation system not working, they said they would call back but never did. I try calling again they said "okay, i'll talk to my manager and call you back." still no call. I was sick of waiting for them so I call them back, but once those ladies that answer the phone know it's me they would hang up. Probably was told to hang up by the fat sale manager. read more

I had been a customer since 1993 spending up to $100,.000 over the years on new vehicles, serviceing etc., but not anymore. If I go with a new vehicle this year which has been the case it will not be with Merced Toyota. Every time we have taken our vehicle in for service they seem to find something dire with it that just has to be corrected while they have the vehicle.At one time they replaced brake pads without our consent and when asked to see the old ones they had "been thrown away". Last year was the last straw that broke the camels back. When I asked for a $4.00 bottle of touch up paint as a token of appreciation for my loyality they refused. The service manager said "what would happen if all of our customers requested touch up paint free". I would not recommend dealing with this dealership especially the service dept and especially if you are a woman. read more

This dealership is everything that the negative stereotypes of car sales characterize. I've never used their service department, but I spent nearly three hours with salespeople asking questions about vehicles of interest. I narrowed my search to two and asked about pricing... Every. Single. Time. I. Asked. The. Question. I was given only a partial answer and another urge toward the vehicle the salesman *wanted* me to buy. As a Costco member, I have access to their auto program that offers discounts and a "hassle-free/no-haggle" purchase via pre-arranged vehicle pricing--I spent over an hour trying to get Toyota to give me printouts of the prices that they have on hand as per the Costco affiliation. The man just kept hand-writing numbers down and explaining vaguely what they meant in order to influence my decision toward the more expensive vehicle. I even asked him about a detail I saw on an incentive financing option that he said I would receive. Later when he called his manager, the manager explained that I would not receive said incentive. This was after I paraphrased, repeatedly, my question regarding that very detail. The entire experience was no different. It was anything but hassle-free. They might as well just run a slimy used car lot. The sales process was certainly worse than many used lots I've shopped. Lastly, they told me "If [you] really want to see some sketchy stuff, visit Razzari over there." Finding that to be at best a juvenile and unprofessional, desperate response, I did. ...So far, everyone at the new dealership has been very nice and helpful even though I still haven't made a decision on a vehicle. Toyota has improved after its renewal. I had no problem with the employees they've treated me well, but not until this year. I don't write reviews, but I felt this needs to be addressed. I was there not too long ago and an employee named Alex approached me. Friendly guy, but not until he began to insult me and my car. If you insult my car, you're insulting me. I could have expressed this to him in person, but I didn't want to cause a scene. I was just observing to see where this would lead to. As a Toyota owner I kept hearing him talk and once he finished talking to me I heard him from the side talking to his co-workers and kept insulting me and my car. Ironically I bought my car from him a couple years ago to say the least. In my mind I was wondering where he was trying to get with all of this... Alex, you really need to be more professional and watch your language, and body language. Flat out rude and disrespectful. With all respect, won't be getting service from you in the future. By all means, my intentions are not for you to get in trouble Alex, but rather for you to learn and grow from critique and customer feedback. took my 2 day old corolla back because the trunk would not shut after i opened it the first time. appears they never did the new car inspection. 2 weeks later car is back with a check engine light on, they could not find the problem but put a big dent in the fender. they then had it a few more days fixing the dent then gave it back with the same issue. took it back 4-5 times and each time no resolve, took it to walnut creek toyota and they kept it over night and gave it back the next day running nice. I still have the surging at stop sign issues but hopefully the recall will fix that. Walnut Creek Toyota fixed my car for free under warranty after merced toyota had it for a total of 2 weeks and did nothing but put miles on it and ding it up. read more

Was helping a close friend car shop this sunday and experienced the worst car sales approach in 20 years. We were shopping for a new sedan but were pushed towards a used honda. The sales person was uninformed about the vehicles she was selling. They insisted on running credit even when told financing was covered. They refused to discuss color and trim options unless we test drove. We walked across the street and bought a brand new accord from a knowledgeable and corteous salesman. Toyotas are good cars but this dealership does them no favors. read more

I contacted these folks to co sign my brothers car. They got pulled both of our credit scores but only to find that out of state residents can't co-sign. I am like what the heck you didnt need to pull my credit score to know that. That's the first thing I told you. They have Costco auto program, they say they offered Costco price, yes they did but then they add couple of grand as some other fee. Greg frankly and rudely told us if you don't buy this Car I don't care some else will. I am like man this is how you treat your customers. It's very typically with all the sales agent. As soon as they pull your credit score they know you are hooked and not going anywhere else then they don't talk nice. The day we bought the vehicle they have 500$ rebate. They said they applied to cost of the car. However that did not change my monthly payment proportionately. They say they have grad college discount we showed our college transcript they didn't honor that either. Bunch of liars. This is a typical dealership where they will confuse you car pricing with 5-6 different prices and then you don't know what how much you are paying for the car. Lastly at the contract signing guy is giving us wrong docs to sign, I caught it and then he is like I am so sorry. Then I asked him distribution of the pricing or itemization he couldn't explain that either. Then they add the clauses which make it totally one sided to their dealership. Bottom line is never finance or buy the vehicle from these folks. I bought it cos we needed the vehicle at that time and didn't wanna wait for another week. read more

Small, cramped service office. Tons of cologne in the air and the feeling of indifference. The first issue on the paperwork is "you realize it is a $110 estimate, and you must pay if we find damage". I wonder why I was there, to see if imaginary noises could be an issue? ITS under warranty, and the car is new. Greg was easy to speak with and made the purchase of the Tacoma smooth and stress free. Greg offered a fair price, whereas dealerships in my area would not even negotiate off MSRP for Tacomas. Greg took the time to show me the features of the Tacoma and even offered to pick me up from the airport since I live 5 hours away from the dealership. BEWARE of the merced toyota service department! I took my car in to have some recall work done and when I picked it up they proceeded to tell me my car needed $900-$1000 worth of repairs. They said I needed a transmission service(which I knew, I just wasn't going to pay dealership prices to have done), then they said I needed a new battery, new water pump and a new serpentine belt. Within a week I took my car to my regular mechanic, a shop in town that I can trust, to have the transmission serviced and have them give the car a thorough bumper to bumper check. I also specifically asked them to check the parts merced toyota told me needed to be replaced and everything checked out just fine! No repairs needed! It's been several months now and none of the supposed "bad" parts have failed or needed to be replaced. If your toyota needs repair work you're definitely better off going elsewhere. I won't go back here even for recalls. I would rather go to Fresno or Modesto for that stuff. read more

Service department is ridiculous! Last time I was there service advisers where horsing around and one threw a paper ball to another one and hit me they both laughed and apologized and offered a free car wash to make up for it. Grown men acting worst than kids in a "professional" business. Today my husband went in for our service appointment that was schedule a week ago. Appoitment for oil change was at 9:45 and they knew he was waiting there while they did oil change. It's now 12:28 and they have not even started an oil change..... how is this a proffesional service station???? Walmart, sears or jiffy lub would of been done with the oil change in less than 30 mins. This is ridiculous!!!!!! Hope TOYOTA looks into customer satisfaction because honestly this makes me not ever take my vehicles there ever again. Just gives TOYOTA a bad reputation. read more

Great friendly environment! Merced Toyota has lots of resources and refreshments while you wait for your service to be ready. I've bought 3 vehicles and was satisfied every time. I would like to review a specific person named Alex. He is always smiling and greets me every time I walk in. He used to be a salesman but got moved into auto service which is great! I just wanted to write a quick review of my recent experience of Toyota and the Merced Toyota Dealership. I lost my keys this last weekend while on vacation and was forced to deal with Merced Toyota. First off all, I think Merced Toyota gets a 2 star review. Their service center is average at best. It's sad when businesses get complacent and no longer try to impress the customer. From the moment I first called and spoke with the service advisor, I just knew this was going to be a bad experience. Clearly he was wanting to move onto something/someone else from the get go. I really don't want to waste your life with a long review, so I'll make it short. Did Merced Toyota help my in my situation, yes. Could they have been better at doing it, absolutely! Do I feel I was overcharged by the pricing set by Toyota or the dealership, of course! $580 for a new key fob is ludicrous. The fob was $220, the rest was labor. My issue is the car was there for under 2 hours, so it was probably actually being attended to for half that time. $340 for 1-2 hours of work, craziness! I purchased one a year ago for my previous Toyota Prius and it was less than $280 at my dealership in Scottsdale. Anyway, that was my experience with Merced Toyota. This experience is really making me have 2nd thoughts on buying another Toyota. For anyone in a similar situation, same yourself a headache and keep driving to the next dealership. read more
