We chose The Meridian to celebrate our 27th anniversary. Even though we reserved a table, we sat at the bar which we often prefer; I like to feel the bustling of a fine restaurant. And bustling it was last night. No line, but the room was full around 8pm. We were there for a couple of hours and thoroughly enjoyed the entire staff. Extraordinary service from the hostess to the management; JP and Brian, our mixologists; Caitlin, our sommelier; the GM, John and the rest of the attentive chefs and servers. No attitudes except positive vibes in the house. Now for the food, which was excellently prepared from starter to salad to main through coffee and dessert. Our starter was Beef Tartare with shiso, truffle xo and crispy garlic in a lettuce wrap. The perfect first two bites. Then the Kohlrabe Caesar with fried egg aoli, herbed breadcrumbs and aged pecorino shavings, altogether a culinary epiphany. Moving on to our main was a perfectly baked black cod in beurre blanc, laid gently over sautéed rainbow chard. We finished our meal with a slice of Brazilian yuca with a scoop of catupiry on the side. The Captain presented our dessert with a lighted candle for our celebration. Exquisite cuisine. There is no Brazilian restaurant like this elsewhere in Dallas. Lastly, I'd like to give a shout out to a new friend we met at the bar, with whom we conversed about what meant the most to the three of us; family, food and striving for a good life. read more

Fantastic dining experience from Chef Borges and team! From the first steps walking into this glass-walled beauty to the welcoming staff and imaginative menu - no detail was spared. Our server, Chantal was friendly and knowledgeable, as was the sommelier. We tried several starters, my husband had the rock shrimp pasta for his entree and my son and I split the "Feast" of Wagyu Picanha (melt in your mouth good!). We can honestly say we enjoyed everything we ordered. So great to have this caliber of restaurant so close to home. We will be back! read more

Tried Meridian to celebrate a friends engagement - upon entering the restaurant, it's a very beautiful, fun atmosphere that we were excited to get settled in. Our waiter came quickly to the table to get us water and drink order...and then that was about the end of our waiter paying attention to us. Arrival of our drinks and bread appetizer took close to 30 minutes after ordering and none of us even ordered cocktails. Our rock shrimp came pretty quickly, and while beautiful presentation, was not what we expected for "rock shrimp." About 20 minutes later our shared pasta came, the papperadelle, which was extremely tasty! Another twenty minutes later, our shared entree came, the salmon, and that also was incredibly delicious! Highly recommend both dishes. However in this timeframe, we haven't seen our waiter once. Never checked in on us to see how we were liking everything or even put in another round of drinks. We had to ask the person clearing out plates for another round of drinks. Then our waiter came to put down the dessert menu, with no explanation of anything, just put it down...and then we never saw him again. We kept waiting for him to come take our dessert order, as we were celebrating my friend's engagement, and after 45 minutes passed, we flagged down someone else to get our check. While for the most part, the food was very good, I was really hoping more from the service, given the caliber of the restaurant!! read more

Although we had heard good things about this restaurant from friends, we had a very unenjoyable experience. First, the wines by the glass left something to be desired. We had gone through 3 bad glasses of red before giving up. Although to be fair 2 of them were horribly oxidized from poor storage methods. The server was also somewhat rude and painfully slow. When we finally got our first course (some sort of sausage), which came highly recommended from our waiter; it was over salted and quite chewy. After bad wine, bad service, and bad food, we called it quits and decided to cut our losses rather than risk spending $70+ on a feared to be mediocre steak. We headed next door to Anise, which was equally if not more dreadful, but that's for another Yelp review. We learned at that time that the restaurants shared management and along with it quite a few undesirable inconsistencies in the food and wine. read more

After making a reservation at Meridian through one of the on-line apps, we called on Friday to see if we could move our 6:45 reservation to 7:15 pm. The host said "no problem but you will have to finish by 9:15 for another seating". Regrettably, that was the highlight of the night. When we arrived, the couple we were meeting were already seated - OUTSIDE. It was only 99 out at the time, and our reservation confirmation clearly said inside. The host blamed the reservation app, found a table for us inside, and now told us we would need to finish by 9. The waiter took drink orders, brought my spouse's glass of wine and showed up 5 minutes later with three drinks (two straight liquors on ice and an on menu specialty cocktail). Not sure why it took so long to pour liquor from a bottle into a glass with ice but whatever. The waiter then explained menu items, took our order (fried cheese, Caesar salad, octopus, chicken and mushrooms) and left. The cheese (nothing special) and then the Caesar (different from the Dallas norm and enjoyable) came timely. Then came the octopus and mushrooms but not my chicken. Five minutes later the waiter came back and asked how everything was. We had not started because no chicken (I don't eat octopus). She had forgotten to order it. She placed the order and the manager came by and made it sound like the restaurant was doing us a favor to expedite it. The chicken arrived 10 minutes later (likely someone else's order - chicken does not cook that quickly). The chicken was good and our friends said the octopus was great although now approaching lukewarm. The manager comped the chicken and a dessert (also good). 9, 9:15 and 9:30 rolled by and no one asked us to leave. Of course, the restaurant was half filled so they really did not need the table after all. We eat at a dozen different restaurants a month. There are plenty of places in Dallas that serve great food and are happy to have you. Most of those do not charge $2 for a glass of ice like Meridian. Meridian serves good enough food but the restaurant's haughty attitude and service leave so much to be desired that we won't return. read more

This place is delicious, plain and simple. Incredible service, amazing food, and a great wine list selection. As of this moment, it is one of the best restaurants in Dallas and goes toe to toe with some of the top places in town (Lucia, Uchi, etc.). They have a Level 3 somm who is incredibly knowledgeable and was a pleasure to work with; both recommendations we got on our wine went perfectly with our food and very reasonably priced. We opted to order family style and got some awesome recommendations from our waiter. The highlights were the tartare (both the beef and the cured fluke), the caesar (it was so unique and refreshing), mushroom (don't skip this, it was delicious), and the heirloom tomato cappelletti pasta (this was as good if not better than anything I've had at Lucia). Everything about the menu, service, and experience is clearly well thought out and will be honestly shocked if Meridian does not get a James Beard Award...its that good read more

Every aspect of our experience was absolutely wonderful, beginning with unusually enthusiastic car valets who seemed to double as ambassadors for the restaurant and the surrounding development. We ate outside sitting in incredibly comfortable chairs under an oak tree. The service was absolutely impeccable - attentive, informative, as or more enthusiastic as the car valets, and it seem each of the waitstaff was a foodie. We ordered and ate substantially more than we should have, but the offerings were simply too tempting to pass on. For example the daily bread was a "layered brioche" which was served with a marbled butter, a picante sauce, and oil and vinegar. Until tonight, I was unfamiliar with layered brioche, but I will never again pass up an opportunity to try it, though it is hard to imagine any future example could match what we had tonight. Each plate which followed was artfully presented, and exceeded our expectations. The "snacks" were amazing, the salads were fantastic, the pasta were both beautiful to look at and wonderfully prepared, and the singular entree we ordered (though we would secretly like to have tried them all) was absolutely fantastic. If this in not the best meal we have had in the last four years in Dallas, it is fair to say I cannot remember a better one. If you want a truly great meal, go. If you want to impress someone with your taste and sophistication, take them with you. If someone you don't like asks for a recommendation.....tell them about Meridian (what's wrong with you)? Tonight - for my husband's birthday- was even better than our first try! Beef tartare, daily bread, fluke tartare, sun gold tomato with catupiri cheese. And then the most delicious duck breast I've ever had! The table also shared Rock shrimp pasta and veal milanese. 2-3 times a year we travel to Dallas for a weekend of entertainment and always some good food! I saw Meridian on instagram and the food looked amazing! We had to try it! The restaurant is quite nice looking and the staff was excellent. Our waitress was attentive and took very good care of us, including our daughter whom had no interest in eating at a "fancy" restaurant (she's 5). The menu was way to adventurous for her, so they went the extra mile to make her one of their dishes without all the extras (spaghetti with red sauce). So here's the reason for the 4 stars and honestly I went back and forth between 3 and 4. The food was good, borderline ok. Nothing bad, but at this price point I want to be blown away. We weren't. My wife had the Black Cod Moqueca and I had the Wagyu Picanha. No real specific complaints but neither one of us had much to say about our dishes. Usually we can't wait to share with each other and gush over which is better! For the cost, we would not go back. If I'm going to spend $200-$300 for a meal, I know of several other places in Dallas that will absolutely wow me (Fearings just to name one). This is a hard post to write because they didn't do anything wrong other than not justify the cost in the dishes. If this was a $100 meal for two type restaurant I'd probably recommend it. But for the cost, I'd send you to a few other places. read more

We came here to celebrate our son's birthday and our wedding anniversary and we are so glad we did. The vibe of the restaurant was great. We chose to sit outside and the patio was lovely. The menu is very creative and the flavors are unique and delicious. We loved everything we had starting with the daily bread which had just come out of the oven. The maitake mushroom was spectacular. The pancake with caviar was small but a perfect couple of bites of rich deliciousness. The service was friendly, unpretentious and excellent. Can't wait to come back. read more

Not sure about all the hype. It's a solid fine. We reserved online. Maybe this gets you a mediocre table? We were shoved in tight between busy tables at booths while a whole room of booths sat empty. Maybe call for a better spot? The server was nice and knowledgeable about the menu. My dinner date had a few cocktails which were "ok, nothing special". The cheese on a stick was tasty. Cheese fritter was ok. The waygu was perfect and the sauce one of the best we've had. Moqueca came with scallops on our visit which were very good and the sauce is amazing. Not sure if it was intentional but the base of my dish was filled with what seemed like cornmeal? I have had moqueca before and never noted this. Odd texture which I could have done without. We checked the dessert menu but opted out because of the extremely long waits. This would be my main gripe. While the server was nice and the appetizers and drinks came right along, we waited upwards of 45 minutes between the appetizer and the main course. During this time a table of 2 was seated 2 spots over, they got drinks. They then waited so long for anyone to return to their table they got up and left. The restaurant was average busy for the night of the week. Maybe needs more staff? Overall I would go back but I'd call for a better table and would like to try some of the other offerings. But hopefully not wait almost an hour for it.... read more
