The staff was amazing. They answered our questions to ensure we had the best experience. We arrived during happy hour. The prices were still maybe 2-4 dollars cheaper than usual. The reason for the low score was the food. The pineapple upside down cornbread was hard and burnt. It shouldn't be crunchy. The turkey necks was so vinegar forward and soaked it lacked any rich savory flavor that I was begging for it to have as I ate it. I didn't finish it because it was too tart with vinegar. I also had the deviled eggs and they were light and airy. The salad was crisp and fulfilling. The ambience was fine st first but a conference party came and overwhelmed the regular patrons. We had reservations to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday and had reached the maximum amount of guests per table, but we had unexpected family joining in. Mackenzie, Ana, and Angie all went above and beyond to seat our group together in the middle of a busy holiday weekend. The food and ambiance were great, the turkey neck was so good (and I was NOT keen on trying it at first, haha.) The cotton candy birthday surprise was a fun change to a standard birthday cake and candle! We'll definitely be back! Came here for lunch while in NoLa. I tried the crispy boudin balls and some shrimp, and downed them with a Paloma. Everything was absolutely delicious. The bar area is well lit and elegant, and the bartender's service and recommendations were excellent. I was also struck by how they keep the menu fresh; a month later I was telling someone about the place and could tell they'd already rotated a couple of items in/out. So my 2 prior reviews were 5 stars.Frankly, the first visit deserved but the 2nd slightly less so... but tonight's really was a 4 or less. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation and they said that they were unable to seat us so we went to the bar. It was weird because they may have had the ability to seat us but seemed to stand on ceremony about the reservation time but seemingly no problem. However, of the two bartenders the one that helped us was not personable, seemed angry, and in general seemed incompetent. Fortunately the other bartender made up for the first. Promptly at our reservation time the hostess came to seat us, said we had to close out our tab - couldn't carry it over to our dinner bill. At that point, though I hadn't yet gotten my drink due to incompetence, I asked to close my tab and they couldn't seem to get that together or correctly. It took them so long to bring me the bill that they held up my being seated. The meal was fair to middling but the service was lacking- plates just dropped at our table with eye contact, no comment, explanation, or even a grunt. The acoustics in the restaurant are ridiculous, can barely have a conversation. read more

We had a horrible experience here, completely driven by poor communication and an incredibly cocky attitude from the front desk staff. They offer a solid happy hour menu from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM daily, which is the exact reason we called ahead to verify how it worked. The hostesses completely misled us over the phone, making it sound like anyone could just walk in and enjoy it. When we arrived, we were hit with the catch: you can only order off the happy hour menu if you are lucky enough to grab a seat at the bar. Because of the bad information we were given, we ended up having to stand awkwardly and try to order over the shoulders of other guests who were just sitting and chatting. It was incredibly uncomfortable, and we absolutely would have gone elsewhere if the staff had just been upfront with us when we called. The misleading info was frustrating enough, but the attitude of the hostesses when we pointed it out was the real dealbreaker. We definitely won't be back. read more

A group of us sat down for a mid afternoon meal while in New Orleans for the Essence Festival. Beautiful spot with nice decor. Our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered a bunch of small plates and shared. My faves that I tasted were the pineapple upside down cornbread, deviled eggs and the wings. The cocktails were good too. Some of the ladies had the appetizer gumbo and said it was delicious. The ribs had good flavor but weren't hot and were a little tough. I had the feeling that they were reheated from the day before. That along with some of the items not being hot enough is my chief complaint but over all I really enjoyed Meril. It has a good vibe and a good menu. I could try Meril again maybe at peak time as the menu has several items I'd love to try. read more

I come to Meril A LOT because there's a lot of availability for reservations with large parties so it seems I'm here quite often for birthdays, etc. Typically I have great service, that's one thing I have never had to worry about when coming here. So, it was extremely disappointing and baffling when my party had a terrible interaction with the new manager Margot. I've ordered the rigatoni from here several times and when the plates arrived to the table there were literally about 2-3 bites per plate. My friend ordered a truffle pasta and there were exactly 2 bites in her dish. The server who placed our food down did confirm that the portion sizes weren't normal and that he would get the manager for us. Margot approached our table and spoke to us in the most condescending way I've ever heard from a restaurant manager. She was talking to us as if we were children. Saying things like "well truffle isn't cheap" "these noodles are handmade..." "even chef Emeril confirmed this is right" She even tried to say that the dishes were made to be "shareable" which is even more concerning because there wasn't even enough for 1 person let alone multiple. I showed her previous images of the portion of pasta I received and she said "well we can take it back but we can't just give you more pasta for free" She stated that everything is weighed and basically it is what it is. While it is possible that prior management did give larger portions and now they are doing something new in the kitchen, there is a way to explain that and to rectify the situation. A little managerial advice would be to say going forward this is the new portion but being that you are literally showing me proof I will make it right this one time. But no, we received a very passive aggressive answer which offered no real resolution or apology. Two of my friends even had no food because of this. Also, I found out that she was only recently hired within the last few weeks which is laughable with how she approached the situation. The previous manager Jamin would have never handled it this way. It is very unfortunate to hear he is no longer with the company. I'm not sure if this was the right direction for Meril to go with for new management because if this is way you treat long time customers you will surely lose them. Food is always good, and the servers are friendly and attentive. The menus change, and they even offer daily specials. Atmosphere is pleasant, but it can get loud in there, especially around the holidays. The ingredients always taste fresh, and there is enough variety to satisfy most tastes. Servings are on the smaller (but not tiny) size. I would give it 5 stars but, as expensive as the food is, the very cheekiness of charging a fee to the consumer for credit card transactions, when those fees are tax-deductible for the business, is a bit cheeky, and will definitely be a factor when deciding where to eat out in the warehouse district in the future. read more

We went to Meril's for a wonderful birthday lunch. We absolutely loved the lit sparkler and cotton candy that they brought out for my birthday. The very nice barmaid made us a special request drink. Everybody was so nice. The flatbread pizza came out hot with delicious melted cheese and very good pepperoni. It was hot and tasty. I loved the very thin crust and how the ingredients soaked into. The buildout of this restaurant is great. From the bar to the very spacious dining room with views into the kitchen, all well done. I enjoyed the small shareable plates style of dinner though food was extremely salty. There were items on the menu that were 86ed even though it was early in the evening on a Saturday. If anything, pass on the deviled eggs that is sitting on a bed of crushed Zapps chips. I appreciate the homage to the city, but those were the most mediocre deviled eggs I've ever eaten. The price for 3 egg halves were ridiculous when there was nothing elevating them. Really wanted to like this place because the staff was very lovely. read more

I absolutely loved Meril! My husband and I decided to set a reservation after receiving a recommendation, and let me tell you we were not disappointed! The restaurant was beautifully decorated. And there were so many wonderful entrees on the menu. The only down side was that I could not try them all in one sitting. But the Tres Leches King Cake is the dessert you have to try! Meril - one of my favorites in New Orleans! It's a small plate-esque restaurant, therefore a great time to try a little of everything. We started with candied pork ribs that were succulent and sweet with a tad of smoky goodness. We proceeded with the beet and avocado salad, fresh and magnificent, pad Thai cauliflower, cooked just perfectly with a peanutty char and the seafood (crab) pasta - I mean it's crab. We had a ladies-night-out after a long tradeshow and this place was great. It seems to attract very large parties (of which there were two, right behind us.) It got loud for a while, but after one inebriated party left, it calmed down a bit. Although we were all hungry, we were easily satisfied by ordering small plates to share. Since we were 4 people, we ordered two portions of the Shrimp Tacos - good move. We also shared the Grilled Octopus, the Brussel Sprouts and the Grilled corn. The food was pretty good overall but somewhat overpriced for what it was. If half stars were an option I'd probably give this place 3.5 stars instead of 4. I came to meril before for a quick bite before an event. Everything looked so good, I had trouble picking and knew I needed to come back! I dined here again with friends a week later. The drink selection and small plates are great. The Parmesan fried chicken salad is simple, but sooo delicious and a huge portion! I LOVE the lemon dressing. The pastas left a little to be desired. I thought it was interesting how they offered you to add proteins to each of them, when most restaurants just include them. Meril's was a short walk from the Kimpton and was our first stop when we arrived. The place was very loud as a Krewe of women were either getting ready or finishing their parade. May have been the noisiest restaurant I've ever been in. It was cool, Friday afternoon during Mardi Gras. Food was very good. Shrimp in the shrimp tacos were very fresh. All of the food was excellent. Service was excellent. After eating we went to the bar since it was happy hour. Great bar with fun customers. Service was a little slow considering it wasn't very busy but adequate. It was a good experience and we would return. read more

I grew up watching Emeril Lagasse, and when I lived in New Orleans in the early aughts and loved going to Emeril's for special occasions. Returning for this trip I was excited to try this newer, more casual restaurant. Maybe we didn't get all the right things, but I felt the dishes were hit or miss. Poke nachos (5/5)- my favorite dish of the night. The best thing about it was it came on these wanton chips. They were so light and fluffy. It was seasoned so well and had a good cut of salmon. Turkey necks (4/5)- they were too fatty for me but my husband loved them. He said they were his favorite of the night. So it depends on what you prefer Crispy cod sliders (1/5)- skip these. They're dry and they use sweet pickles. Didn't like at all. Fries (4/5)- I'll eat a potato any way you cook it, but the texture of these was so good. I liked that they were thin, but still soft. I only took off 1 point because they could have used more salt Upside down cornbread (5/5)- We had this as dessert and it's superb. My husband wasn't sold but I insisted we order it. He quickly changed his mind upon tasting it. It's a genius idea to combine pineapple upside down cake with cornbread. And then add bacon? Yes. Very much yes. I was definitely underwhelmed by my experience at Meril. Having grown up watching Emeril on TV, I decided that I should visit one of his restaurants while in New Orleans. I recall Emeril always shouting "BAM!" while adding more flavor and spice to his dishes on TV. However, my friend and I both felt that our meals here lacked flavor, and in fact tasted rather bland. For the prices that they charge, you can get much better food in New Orleans. We started off with the pocket bread, which was probably the highlight of our meal. It was nicely seasoned and had a good chew to it. However, the food only went downhill from here. I ordered a tuna bundles, which was somewhat haphazardly plated and awkward to eat. For my entree, I went with the Fettuccine Nero, which looked quite impressive but lacked flavor. This was surprising, because I could visibly see chiles in the dish. The portion was also pretty small for $28. The service was decent and the ambiance is quite nice, but I wouldn't return to Meril given the wealth of excellent dining options in New Orleans. read more
