The food was delicious! The place had great ambience. The service was really great! I intend to return.

We got there in time for happy hour, enjoyed a couple of cocktails, a with a cosmo and French 75 however. Drinks were delicious but made in tiny glasses (at least 2oz short of standard). The service is very good. We took advantage of the happy hour apps and tried the Fried Green Tomatoes and the Tuna Crudo. Their version of fried green tomatoes included a balsalmic glaze drizzle which added a nice touch to the panko fried tomatoes. The Tuna Crudo was over powered by mandarin orange and pickled shallots and lacked acidity. We made the mistake of taking a table offered to us in the bar instead of the main dining room for dinner. I just don't recommend it if you want to hear as like many bars, as it fills up, it's a competition for who is the loudest. Also, avoid tables near the front windows during pre-sunset hours. The long windows lack any kind of window treatments and you will need sunglasses to eat if you don't avoid seating in the sunbeam's path. We switched to wine with our main course. The wine selection is good and unlike happy hour, the glasses are normal size. We had the Fresh Gnocchi and the Pan Seared Market Fish. The Gnocchi was very disappointing. While the potato pasta was fine, the mushrooms were like rubber. This was maybe due to a failure to rehydrate freeze dried mushrooms properly before adding them to a sauce, but they were very chewy. I'm not sure how much this impacted the taste, because it seems there was way too much truffle oil in the dish. The Pan Seared Fresh Marked Fish was a nicely cooked pompano, with a basic white wine garlic sauce. The odd choice of using whipped potatoes instead if rice (or nothing) kind of negated the sauce and it was unfortunately flanked with some also chewy oyster mushrooms and some leeks that were prepped spaghetti style with a texture similar to plastic. In short, the elements of the Gnocchi could have worked with better attention to the cooking process, the Market fish dish is just a bad design. Again, the service was very good. We noted that our server did not ask if we wanted to-go boxes and seemed unsurprised that we did not ask for any. read more

I brought my girlfriend to Beggar's Banquet for our third anniversary, and it was definitely the right choice! Despite the servers' funky mechanic's jumpsuit uniforms, the service was friendly, knowledgeable, and very professional. From the wine pouring to the dish placements, I could tell they were very well trained. The food was excellent as well. We ordered the ceviche and truffle parm fries as appetizers, and the portions were generous. My gf ordered the shortribs, and I ordered the special, which was a steak dish. Both were delicious. I wasn't terribly impressed by the starters. The sriracha cauliflower could have used some ranch or another mayo-based sour sauce to cut through the spice and grease. The fried tomatoes were crispy and paired well with the burrata. The red fish was the star of the show. Visited on the last night of a weekend trip and it was a nice experience. Our server was very attentive and provided great recommendations for us to try. We ordered the short ribs, gnocchi, brussel sprouts, and truffle fries. The gnocchi was a little too doughy to my liking; however, my friend really enjoyed the short ribs. The brussel sprouts and truffle fries were both solid. The only downside was how loud it was in the restaurant. It was very difficult to hold a conversation without yelling. I enjoyed the food, but definitely was a bit pricey so just keep that in mind. That being said, we also ordered a lot of food for two people! Mushroom toast-highlight appetizers with a thick piece of toast cut in half, avocado, delicious array of mushrooms Calamari-usually not a fan but tried it since people raved about this. Honestly, everything about this visit was incredible! ​The meal was a 10/10. I started with the phenomenal Brussels sprouts, followed by the shrimp and grits. Every single bite was bursting with flavor; the shrimp and grits were so hearty and satisfying that I finished every last bit. To top it off, my cocktail was absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with the meal. ​The service was top-notch--attentive and friendly from start to finish. Gotta say, when we walked into the restaurant, I did not have high hopes. It felt more neighborhood joint than I was expecting given the name of the place. I've been wanting to try this place for a while so my friends took me here on my birthday for a lovely dinner! We had a reservation but we chose to grab a drink at the bar and waited for our entire party to arrive. I ordered the hot boi cocktail- it was very tasty and actually spicy. Once we were seated, the excitement began! We ordered the calamari and fried oysters to start. Very delicious. Then, we shared two entrees, the short rib and the redfish with a side of truffle fries and Brussels sprouts. It was a lot of food but so tasty so we ate it all and were stuffed but of course we needed dessert so I ordered the espresso crème brûlée which was amazing!! Of course they put a tasteful candle in it which was so sweet. They also treated us to complimentary bubbles and ginger ale for my zero proof friend. The service was great and attentive. So far, I've only been to Beggar's Banquet for happy hour, but it's such a cute spot for drinks! And the food I have tried, it's been very tasty. The restaurant actually has 2 sides...the bar side has more of a lounge feel, while the restaurant side has more of a casual yet fine-dining feel. You can't beat the price of the happy hour apps for high-quality dining. I'm obsessed with the sriracha cauliflower!! (Though, I have tried the smoked redfish which basically tasted like smoked tuna, and I've tried the steak frites entree which is amazing!) So yesterday I ventured out to try a new brunch spot Beggars Banquet on Prytania! Omg it was amazing! And y'all know we are picky to say the least lol. So we started with the grilled Banana Bread and wow Maple Bacon Butter is all I have to say it was delicious. Then we saw the Mascarpone grits again wow! I had the stuffed French Toast perfection! That strawberry sauce and the perfect fluffy bread! YES! Eddie had the Get Shorty boneless short rib Benedict. The eggs were perfect and the flavors outstanding! Our reservation was early and I was the first of my party to arrive. The staff was super great and sat me right away. As my party rolled in, so did the place fill up rather quickly. Definitely you should make reservations. The whole vibe is so cool, dress up or dress down. I started with a bloody Mary which proved to be really nice, a little bit of spice and a cute pickle assortment. The table ordered Biscuits and Banana bread. The biscuits were their interpretation of biscuits, but more like a biscuit bread which came out in 4 giant squares. I'm not a marmelade fan so I just had butter. Still yummy. I thought it was nice and VERY filling (uh oh), I then could only have a small piece of banana bread. It was delicious. Next came our mains, The whole table ordered the Crabby Benny, even our vegan who asked for it without the crab. I pride myself on being a Benedict connoisseur and when the plate came out I was wowed by the presentation. I always add lemon to my benedicts. The potatoes were perfectly cooked at crispy. delish. I took the plunge. then another bite, something seemed off. I looked at the others in my party and everyone started in. It appeared that there is some sort of sweet relish added. In my opinion it overpowered the crab and completely knocked me off kilter. 3 of us left half, even the vegan. Now is it bad, absolutely not. We just didn't care for the sweet relish and I would absolutely order it again, but without the relish. I still had a wonderful time and there's so much to try on the menu. I'm not sure how I missed this restaurant, which is on my path all the time. It goes to show our rich restaurant scene in New Orleans. BB is located in lower garden district close to the CCC, with a very easy access from all parts of the city. Easy parking on the street. This is a lovely restaurant with a very well appointed full bar. Both the restaurant and the bar are tastefully decorated, tranquil and welcoming. Owner Patty was hostessing. This is place one wants to be. Staff was prompt, polite and knowledgeable. The menu was not extensive and was not anemic. They have the perfect balance of appetizers and entrees. We had the Firecracker calamari and the Rare tuna for appetizers, both very good but I thought the firecracker was a little overdosed. This very well thought out dish would taste even better if it just wasn't painfully good. We also had the steak sandwich with fries, Osso buco, and the fresh Gnocchi with mushrooms. Everything was very good, I thought osso buco could stay in the oven a little longer. Personally, I would also serve it with a little thicker. Their desserts were innovative and not heavy or overwhelming. We had the delicious Bananas foster crème brûlée. This is an excellent restaurant deserves many visits. read more

I have been here few times and to me this place hits the perfect balance of high quality and diverse food with chill New Orleans local vibe in lower garden. Came here last night with old time college buds and we basically did family style trying everything on menu. First with apps we had steak tartar special , grilled romaine, oyster en croute, spicy calamari, fried green tomato with burrata and tuna crudo. Hard to pick fav as all were excellent maybe oyster and fried green edged out the others. For mains had redfish, gnocchi, short rib again all excellent but might be one of best fish in New Orleans. Even had this strange cocktail with whisky, soy sauce and tahini and it went down oh so smooth. Me and the gals had a lady's brunch here a couple of months ago. I struggled to find the entrance door to the restaurant. I saw the sign above the door, but the door is basically blank or light designed. After going around to the side and back to the place that I started under the big sign, which logically would be the entrance, I opened it and voila! I was in. The hostess seemed a little perturbed or just plain unamused and I am sure others have done the same. In fact, one of the ladies in my group did the exact same thing as I did - started at the front door, noticed no vivid sign, walked around the side to see if there was a blatantly obvious entrance door with a sign, saw there was not and walked back to original door. ha! There could be a much bigger sign assuring customers of where to enter. Anyway, after the entrance fiasco, we all ordered much needed adult bevies to kick off the weekend. Martini espressos were the main drink of choice. Some also tried the kitten's mittens. All the drinks were tasty, not my fav martini espresso in the city, but a good one. The biscuits were ordered - those were tasty, the pear toast were good, the sriracha cauliflor was possibly the star dish - no pics tho, as was the ahi tuna - same, no pics. For entrees, I ordered the chicken Milanese which was good, but again did not blow me away. I would like to have tried the banana fosters French toast, but I couldn't do such a sweet dish. Maybe the next time. The bathroom decor was amazing. Everything was clean and I enjoyed the uniquness of the layout and decor. Overall, I enjoyed the food, the drinks, and the company. I liked some of the decor as well. The service was good I just think they need more of a sense of humor - I think we annoyed them with our entrance woes. But if I had to choose between serious service that tends to all our needs vs happy jokester service that does not tend to our needs, I prefer the serious service. We all ordered the grilled Caesar to start, and under the pretense of "grilled", served us badly wilted romaine. I had short ribs, and the entire plate of food was room temperature. Upon reading Beggar's menu, I immediately found interesting offerings which directed me to make a reservation. I ordered the banh mi sandwich with pork belly and my partner had the steak sandwich. The fries for both were crispy and fresh. They're shoe string fries. Both sandwiches were delicious. My positives were the service and the drinks. The service was great. The server was very attentive and made suggestions and just had a great disposition in general. She was so sweet that when she asked if I liked my food, I couldn't bear telling her the truth. I'm sorry for lying to you if you see this, girl! I like the decor and the dark feel. It was pretty quiet though they had quite a few people there. The cocktails are well crafted and delish. My friends and I sampled each other's a bit so I got to taste some others on top of the two I ordered. The Rolling Blackout sounds quite odd (has dark soy sauce, tahini, lemon, egg white) but it all worked and made for an interesting, tasty drink. A Noble Defeat was good as well, potent but you tasted all the different flavors including the earl grey, which wasn't overpowering like it can be in some drinks. The Slay Bells is SO cute and makes you feel like you sipping on it by a Christmas tree. The Figment of Imagination might have been my favorite. I loved the touch of Chinese Five Spice. It was a strong drink but full of flavor. My disappoint came with the food. To start, was the "crispy" calamari. It was not giving crispy. It was soggy and bland unfortunately. I had the pork schnitzel entree and it was also bland. It wasn't terrible by any means but I probably didn't even eat half of it because even with me adding salt, it just lacked flavor. The shaved brussels on top were alright though. I do want to circle back and give it another go. Maybe it was just a one-off on the food. read more

The mushroom toast was tasty and it was plated super cute. I had seared redfish for dinner and u would not recommend it at all. The corn maque choux was just too greasy and salty for me. The fish was ok and it was seared good. The crabmeat on top was pretty but lacked any true flavors. Overall the dish was pretty in presentation but I was expecting the flavors to come together so much better. I would've rather my fish just been on some potatoes and called it a day. The bathroom also could've used a little TLC. For the price, I'd just expect more. There are better places in the city. read more

Cute neighborhood place done well - the Bar is on the left and they have a nice early happy hour menu and the full restaurant has a door on the right which opens around 5pm. Calamari is some of the best you'll find, it's not over-fried like most - just right yielding a perfect texture and good accompaniments. Mushroom toast is nice, who can argue with excellent Focaccia, top quality ingredients, and great flavors. Entrees are generally large portions so you might want to plan on taking some home, but we've had most items and it's hard to go wrong. Plus the cocktail menu is amazing and the wine list has some nice options so you have great options all around. Service is excellent, with some of the nicest and most genuine people you will find in the industry.
