I enjoyed Merit Coffee's Dallas locations, so I was so excited to hear that one opened up in Houston. Boy, was it PACKED when I came on a Saturday around 11:30. The line almost reached the door, but it went by at a reasonable pace. It did die down a little bit throughout the afternoon, and the tables opened up pretty quickly as people left once they picked up their drinks. Thankfully I was able to snag a table and get some work done on my laptop. The seating maybe wasn't the MOST comfortable, but it was fine for my 3 hour stay. I normally opt for iced vanilla lattes, but I decided to try one of their speciality drinks: the iced brown sugar veracruz. It also came with a yummy cold foam. It was a little pricey at almost $8. It honestly didn't taste much like coffee, so if you're more into sweet drinks, this may be right up your alley. I don't know if I'd necessarily order it again, but it was still tasty and fun to try something different. Heads up, it was pretty cold inside, so if you're planning to stay for a while, I'd recommend bringing a jacket (unlike I did WHOOPS). And if you're planning to work, I'd recommend bringing noice canceling headphones. The booths also had charging ports available. In terms of parking, there's plenty of lot parking available. Overall, I'd definitely come back, whether that be to catch up with friends or to get some work done. I'll just remember to bring a jacket next time haha. read more

Second time to this coffee spot. Yeah they are slow boots. Are they busy yes. But I think they need to hire more employees, because the way it took 40 days and 40 nights to get a London fog which is tea with milk guys. The first time I came here I got a drip coffe which still took a while. Huh a pattern I guess. They are relatively new but it apoears they have not improved their efficiency yet and if I were in a hurry I'd be annoyed. The coffee is self was smooth and not acidic and the London fog was made well and balanced. I would say if you're planning to stop here make sure you have time and are not in a hurry. read more

I remember passing this iconic Buffalo Speedway building several months ago and being somewhat bummed to see that the Starbucks had closed down. I didn't frequent that Starbucks, but it had pretty much been there since I've lived in the area. Now that it's been replaced with a new coffee shop, I was intrigued The interior is much brighter and trendier now. It was incredibly packed. I would say it's a great place to meet up with friends, work, or study if not for the crowds. Part of it has to be because it's new, and part because it's the weekend, and probably part because of their offerings, but I'd imagine in time it will settle down slightly and be more chill They have an impressive amount of offerings. The line wraps from the counter to the door and as you wait and move along in line you pass nest merchandise. As you approach the ordering counter you can see the menu brightly and clearly displayed above as well as food items for sale displayed perfectly in a glass display case There are classic espresso drink options, cold brew (washes and natural - different flavor profiles), signature drinks like the one I got (banana pudding latte), teas, and a variety of other drinks. If you order hot food they will heat it up for you. There's a pickup section at the end of the order counter for hot food, and then there's a pickup section at the end of the coffee bar away from the ordering counter for coffee. It's pretty intuitive but still slightly confusing The staff were very efficient and friendly. Being able to take orders, craft tasty drinks, and serve hot food items in such a timely manner is truly impressive. I say that the hot espresso drinks had latte art that even when to-go they had opened so the patron could enjoy the art before they put a lid on it I usually don't order sweet drinks, and this Banana Pudding Latte would presumably be very sweet, but I love banana pudding and it was something new. I will say it wasn't overly sweet which I enjoyed. I also got a jalapeño and cheese kolache, but I'm pretty sure it was just a regular as there was no kick or semblance or either jalapeño or cheese. Walking in I really wanted to give this place a 5. They were fairly tasty offerings. They did forget to prepare my kolache and after waiting for 15min before inquiring they graciously heated one for me. It was a good experience overall, but there are a couple areas of improvement like that Some tips: They do sell coffee beans/grounds here for you to take to-go They also have a rewards program where you can sign in and get rewards points for your orders. You can also order ahead of time and avoid the lines. I wasn't asked at the register if I had an account or if I wanted to join. Maybe you only get points if you order through the app They do have patio seating, but let's not kid yourself. Finally tried Merit in Houston! I used to go to the one in Austin so this was a lovely reminder of those days. Coffee came out quick despite how busy it was! The tables are a bit small but there are plenty of plugs so it is a great place to work but beware it is loud!. I also got a jalapeño cheese kolache and it was fantastic and so tasty. I love coffee!! I most definitely love to find new coffee shops outside of the everyday coffee chain companies, so when we heard of the grand opening of Merits Coffee Co. we had to give it a try. Upon entering the restaurant we were immediately greeted by the cashier and baristas. We feel in love with the layout of the restaurant, it was filled with a lot of people, but still so spacious that we still had room to move around without feeling crowded. The layout allowed for multiple table, chairs, and outlets for work stations etc. We ordered an almond milk banana pudding latte, an almond milk mocha latte, and an eggs cheese and spinach sandwich. The three stars come from the long lasting spoil taste of the coffees we ordered. I'm not sure if it was from the almond milk or if it was the coffee itself, but we couldn't get past the taste and unfortunately didn't get to enjoy the entirety of our beverages. The low rating also comes from the constant hair touching of the workers making the drinks without any hand washing nor hand sanitizing in between. The breakfast sandwich was bland, but the initial first impression from the workers made up for the lack of taste in the products. With all of that said would we return? Maybe. Again I don't know if the spoiled taste we experienced came from the coffee itself or from the almond milk, but if we were to return it would be to try it with the regular milk to see if that was the problem. And to also try their iced raspberry chantilly latte because when we visited they were out of the ingredients which was disappointing seeing that they were just open for five days. read more

Merit Coffee Co finally made its way out to Houston, TX! I originally tried this place years ago in San Antonio, so it's nice to have another quality coffee shop open nearby. Skip Starbucks and go to Merit Coffee Co instead! Merit Coffee Co is known for serving ethically sourced quality coffee that they roast in Texas. I ordered a hot oat milk mocha and it was perfectly made, not to mention served in an actual mug. This makes all the difference! This first Houston location also features pastries made by Cake and Bacon. I usually get them at the farmer's market, but having them at Merit Coffee Co makes it that much more convenient. Definitely recommend the jalapeno sausage kolache. Overall, Merit Coffee Co is a welcome addition to the West U neighborhood. Ok so yes the place is aesthetic, and I love the windows and how open the seating and concept/layout is. The people behind the counter are really nice, but the line was pretty long for very very underwhelming drinks. Service was efficient - maybe took 5 min to get our drinks after ordering, but they were about $8 or so and wasn't a big fan of them. The hojicha tasted just like strawberry milk, and my banana pudding latte tasted like coffee with pancake syrup or simple syrup added to it - didn't get the banana flavor at all. My friend's raspberry chantilly latte was the best in that it actually tasted like raspberries, but nothing special. My friend also got a cake pop and said it didn't taste like strawberry, which I think it was supposed to taste like. read more

I decided to stop by this place on my way to work since it just recently opened. The interior when you walk in is so cute and has a lot of seating for people who need to get work done. I ordered the raspberry chantilly matcha but sadly they ran out of the cold foam that comes on top. The flavor of the chantilly was amazing and pretty sweet. If you don't like your drinks sweet I would adjust the sweetness level. Also you can't really taste the matcha but I still enjoyed the drink a lot. Matcha latte was absolutely horrendous. So sweet and the color wasn't right. Also got the banana matcha latte and it was SO sweet. Even after the ice melted, it was really difficult to finish. Also, The chai latte was alright. Lalaland & Starbucks are better, unfortunately. read more

Staff are really friendly and space is modern and nice, welcoming, but the coffee itself was the highlight. Aqua made the latte our first time and it was amazingly good. Jésus made it today and coffee was again great with beautiful latte art. The strawberry hojicha was just the right amount of sweetness. We've been to the Merit coffee in San Antonio and in Austin, and I'd have to say, it's been the best here. Needless to say, we'll probably be regulars ;) read more

Came early on a Friday morning before work about ~1 week after opening. I was only second in line when I got there but I guess there were already a lot of people waiting. It took me almost 20 minutes to get two matchas. And the matcha was premade. They serve tacos but they are from taco deli so very underwhelming. Was not please with the taco or the wait time for the drink. It nearly made me late for work. The drink itself was decent. I don't mind that it's premade matcha but to take 20 minutes and it's already made was a little frustrating. I had the raspberry Chantilly one and I like the topping they put on it. The space itself is nice. They definitely upgraded it from when the Starbucks was there. Seems like a nice place to get some work done but maybe not in the first couple of weeks since it was pretty busy. I'm sure I will return since it's so close to my house. Very busy even in the late morning, probably because it just opened. Staff is very friendly though. Because they're so busy, it's taking at least 10 minutes for a drink to be ready. I've been twice so far. The space itself is sleek and clean and there's a lot of natural light. The seating is ok, all the chairs are hard so it's not ideal for sitting for a long time and the tables are small so not conducive to groups. The iced latte comes in either 16 oz or 12 oz, and it's very milky compared to other lattes I've had (I think the ratio is more like 1:5?). My preferred ratio is a flat white, which is not available on the menu, so I have also tried a hot cappuccino. Got hazelnut both times. Total for one drink is ~$6-7 depending on if you add syrup or alternative milk. Syrups are ok, they're not house made, just in bottles. They have some specialty items which I haven't tried yet. But I did see a lot of the strawberry matchas being made and noticed the matcha mixture is premade in a bottle and that gets added on top of the strawberry milky mixture (it's fine if you don't care about getting freshly mixed matcha but if you're picky about that or want something actually weighed out, this is not for you). I think it's a little expensive for the whole experience- quality and the wait...perhaps it will get better as the crowds die down and they can slow down a bit. read more

Great coffee and food and love the ambiance. Customer service was super nice but unable to adjust their process as the order is not visible to them. Ordered ahead online. There is no benefit. Your order will not be available for 30 min. People who ordered after we arrived even 15 min after received their order before ours. Please fix your online order process so the order for asap automatically goes into the queue or add a note that your order will not be available until the time assigned even if there are no orders ahead of you. The interior and ambience is really nice that's the only good thing about this place, think this was a Starbucks previously. Always judge a coffee place by their latte but not by any fancy drinks, what a let down over priced, over hyped very bland coffee no flavor and quality of coffee if horrible to say least. Also place was jam packed and took around 25 minutes to get my coffee. Coffee tasted like espresso was pulled really fast and sour notes. Would I come back? Absolutely no, would I recommend this place, absolutely NO. There are lot better coffee shops closer and with fair price. What a shame staff were sweet but not setup to handle volume with only 1 espresso machine with 2 espresso extractors. read more

Beautiful location. Easy parking. I do think cafes should just take matcha off the menu if: A.) they really don't know how to make it B.) they don't care how it's made. Matcha was served with powdery chunks, barista gracefully remade it. It was the stereotypical milky green color, and tasted overwhelmingly of milk and artificial vanilla. When I got there at the said time, drink was not ready and place was PACKED. Very cute place and my iced latte with 1% milk and sf vanilla was probably the best I've had in a while, but I still waited an additional 10 min for my coffee past the pick up time.
