While on vacation in Destin, I decided to call for a take out order. When I placed the call, I stated that this was a take out order. The young lady on the other end replies back "is this pick up or dine in. I ordered a pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom. Her reply back was "what did you want again". She told me it would be ready in 20 minutes. I stopped and purchased gas first then stopped to pick up my pizza. I knew there might be a little wait. They took my my money and I had at seat. After about a 25 minute wait, I finally asked her to check on my pizza. It was in the warming box and apparently had been sitting there for a while. Those things happen and I understand but what really irked me was when she handed me my pizza, she simply gave it to me and walked away. No "sorry for you wait" or "thank you". I used to love Merlin's, they had the best pizza in Destin and one of my favorites. I'm a local so I had it probably once a week for the past 7 years. Recently it has changed. Their cheese isn't as good and their crust changes too. At first they said nothing had changed so I thought I just had an off night, then it happened again. I ordered tonight and learned that they did indeed change their cheese. Not sure if they changed their crust but it seems different too. Also they opened a delivery location so are making a he pizza at a different location with different equipment. Their slogan "Life is too short to eat corporate pizza" but it seems that corporate decisions has made Merlin's just another pizza place. Sad. read more

The pizza was really good - a little spicy with lots of flavor! BUT the orders for our table came out at completely different times - some people were done before others even got their food. While vacationing in Destin we ordered Merlin's. The delivery guy decided to add on $10 as an additional tip for himself. I called to report it and their response left me thinking they do this often to vacationers & were not concerned. I was hopeful they would correct this however one week later they found a way to charge my account $10 more under "Merlin's Delivery". The bank refunded me all my money but with it being a small increments cannot address the fraud with Merlin's. How unfortunate that a company can take advantage of vacationers. Please be hesitant in providing this company your credit card. I recommend avoiding entirely (so many awesome restaurants in Destin) but if you do order then pay in cash. read more

From the parking lot, this place looks like a carry-out only pizza place. But behind the blacked out doors and windows are a handful of booths and tables for dinning in. You still order at the counter but they bring the food to your table. Lots of "specialty pies" to chose from or order your own combination. We started with pepperoni cheese bread with dipping marinara sauce which was awesome. Plus we got to try the garlic cheese bread too. There was another table that was using same name as ours so when they called out our name, the other table was closer, and our bread was delivered to their table. I don't even think they ordered bread because they looked confused about it but they dug in anyway! The girl up front figured it out right away and apologized and put another order in for us. Meanwhile they brought out some garlic cheese bread to hold us over! Well handled. The pizza showed up right away too. Thin crust Hawaiian and traditional crust with bacon and banana peppers. Both 12" medium size. Both were delicious. Now pizza is tough to rate because everyone has their favorite. And it's nearly impossible to compete with it. And when you're hungry, it's hard to find bad pizza! I'm a fan of thin crust pizza that is crispy as a cracker yet still enough toppings and sauce to call it pizza. This came close but not quite. But still great thin crust. You can hold a slice in one hand without it bending in half, which is a good start, and the toppings and sauce were satisfying. The traditional crust was great too. Nice chewy crust but not doughy. I prefer to try local flavors over chain restaurants and this was worth the stop. We took home leftovers for lunch the next day. The "fountain drink rip-off" was in play. I think I paid $9 for 4 bottomless drinks. That set the total bill over $40. Still worth it. But I think they sold two liter soda bottles for $2.25 and one bottle would have served us fine. But with four people, we couldn't decide in one flavor so went with fountain drinks. After ordering in during a vacation 2 years ago we decided to dine in on Tuesday June 28, 2016. The restaurant is located in a strip center off the main drag in Destin. From the outside you wouldn't think much of Merlins but the interior has a modern flare. It's a bit small when walking in, but after sitting down I didn't get that cramped feeling. The waitress immediately brought menus and took our drink orders. She was very polite and attentive throughout our visit. We ordered cheese sticks, a garden salad, a medium 1/2 cheese 1/2 pepperoni, and a large 1/2 Hawaiian 1/2 veggie. Cheese sticks were were about as good a cheese sticks could be, while the garden salad was large enough for two to share. The pizzas came out surprisingly shortly after we finished with the appetizers. Pizza crust is a little thicker than what I would prefer, but was cooked to a crisp perfection. I didn't eat any of the medium, but those that did had no complaints. I did have the veggie and the toppings were larger than the norm and plentiful. The cost was $43 including tax. A little more than the chains, but not by much. The taste though is definitely hands above the competition. If you're looking for a local hidden gem to call your go to spot, this is it. read more

I didn't move to Destin, only visiting, but it only took me two tries to find an absolutely amazing pizza place I'd be sure to frequent if I lived here. I ordered delivery of 6 cheese cheese bread and a large polla Bella pie. I'll start with the pizza. Typically I'm a meat pizza guy but my wife went with this seemingly strange pie. It didn't seem appetizing when reading the description but whoever came up with this pizza is a genius and it leads me to believe that the other eccentric pies they have are probably equally as well inspired. The flavor was absolutely on point and everything played well together. Cooked to perfection as well. They advertise the cheese bread not being like other places garbage bread with sparse dry crispy cheese. I figured it was all a bunch of hot air until I opened the box. Absolutely LOADED with cheese. Feta cheese chunks the size of a babies fist. There were gobs of cheese on the bottom of the box after my family demolished this angelic bread and that's not to say it slid off the bread leaving it bare. It was just extra cheese for free cheese consumption. I ordered delivery and it was at my place in under 40 mins. If you're in destin and want pizza, don't look any further than merlins. It's a bit pricey but they do not skimp on value. Worth it. Don't be an idiot. Eat merlins pizza. read more
