Referred my friend to Merrimans and was told she needed a new compressor kit for ac. Quoted her a price of $2,300. Very high for a fixed income. Had her grandson look at the car and he pulled the cabin air filter. Found out it just needed to be replaced and ac is fine now. This is very disappointing. I have always spoke highly of Merrimans. Loved Charlie and Jay when they worked there, but whoever the tech is that is trying to make extra money , they are going to ruin your reputation. So sad. We will be taking our vehicles elsewhere. read more

Skimmed a pedestrian light pole avoiding a civilian texting while crossing the street and Merryman's Service Center was the closest shop who I coincidentally have a good friend Seth working there, so I slow rolled it there while hearing an ungodly knocking noise and they had it fixed in under 72 hours for a fair price considering how fast they fixed it and how I just showed up broken down without making an appointment or anything. A+ to all the Merryman's service center crew. Highly recommend them for mechanical repairs if you find yourself in a bind near downtown Fredericksburg or just looking for an honest mechanic shop thats not going to upsell you on parts you don't need. Dropped of my car there for a routine emissions and oil change. Next day AC stopped working. Took my car to a different mechanic to see what the issue was. Mechanic stated that the phreon had been deliberately drained and tampered with. The mechanic also states that this was most likely to get more worn and money from me. Luckily, I was smart enough to get it checked elsewhere or I would have paid for a new AC unit that I did not need. Shame on you for doing this to people, and women. I understand times are hard but this is not ok to do this to people. read more

I went in for an inspection and they had a separate little waiting area with wifi. The guy at the front desk was super nice & it was fast and easy. There is a good mechanic there named Nic which is why I took it in to begin with. It was recommended to me when I moved to the area.Would go back! read more

My car broke down on I 95 last night. They towed it 20 minutes after it being left. I'm supposed to believe some random person stopped on the side of a 65 MPH road to take an inspection sticker? Gentleman who helped me was very helpful and useful, even had a jump box for me but his driver must've rummaged through my car. My gun case for my handgun, thanking my self for taking it with me, was on the floor board with the ammo I guess he didn't have a use for. Both was sitting inside of my closed glove box. And somehow my inspection sticker just walked off. UPDATE Found out they broke the latch that opens my trunk, the bum really wanted to get inside! Then I found out they tore off the rubber trim that goes around the window trying to get in. Bunch of no good thieves lmao, put some pride into your work. read more

I stopped by Merryman's Service Center yesterday to get an emissions test for a used car I had purchased in MD. It was the middle of the day so I figured I would be waiting a while. I was told it would be about 30 minutes. I was very happy. I gave them my keys and walked to wait in the waiting room to wait. The waiting room was comfortable and had a TV and WIFI. About 20 minutes later I was informed that my car was done. Wow what great customer service. My service rep, Jay was great, he was personable and complete, a true professional. I won't take my car anywhere else for emissions and state inspection. read more

Nope...Keep driving...Even if your Check Engine Light is on. I made the mistake of going here 2 years ago for a brake job and inspection 5 days before my inspection was up and was greeted by an extremely rude version of Uncle Jesse Hazzard. I was reluctant to leave my vehicle with them (who knows where they'd drive it...Krispy Kreme or The Rappahannock River most likely), but needed the work done as I was going away for a few days. Needless to say, when my $650 bill came to the counter (mind you only for Rear Rotors/Pads, Inspection, and an Oil Change), I was less than amused. I asked to see a breakdown of all of the charges and found numerous charges for things that were obviously not done...wiper fluid/blades, light bulbs replaced, and fog light housing replacements. I made a stink and saw them then replace the blades and bulbs. They took off the charge for the work they DID NOT do on my fog lights. I coughed up the remaining balance due and made sure I would never speak of or even consider coming back to this place...but my wife unfortunately did recently and stumbled in to get a headlight bulb replaced on her way home from work. After a 30 minute wait, someone came to say "Oh...we ordered the bulb it will be another hour, we will wait to pull your car in because we are busy", my wife gave up and asked for her keys. They pulled her car up to the door and she was on her way. She then went to PepBoys and bought the bulb so I could put it in at home that night. When I opened the hood that night...I found the dead bulb...hanging out of the housing with the dust cap missing. Of course it was no where to be found in the engine compartment so I told her to go back and ask them to look for it. As expected, they gave her a hard time about "being in a rush when they had the car in being serviced"...that they supposedly "DID NOT have in the bay" according to Larry The Cable Guy behind the counter at her first visit. Eventually after a bit of back and forth, they admitted they threw it out after she left assuming she wasn't coming back and would order her a new one. Hopefully these Frednecks make good on their error. As for you...reader of this review. You have been warned. Go to a professional instead. read more

2000 Jeep Cherokee, one of the easiest front end alignments in the world and these guys could not get the steering wheel straight or have it track down the road correctly. I took it to another shop and they got it all working fine. These guys are close to work for me so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back to have them balance my tires. Again, the failed to get it done correctly. I made the mistake of sending a friend there who is now dealing with the fact they will not warranty their labor. Every shop I have ever used has a minimum one year labor warranty. No these guys. I guess being in business so long they rely on a few local customers who don't know any better. Steer clear of this place and their incredibly unprofessional service writer who also answers the phones. He hung up on me while I asked questions about my last inspection. That was the turning point that made me write this up. I will not be back and I will make sure everyone I work with and know in Fredericksburg stays away. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Merryman's Service Center used to be a good place to have your vehicle serviced, but those days have changed. I used to take my car there to have the oil changed. When I would pick up the car, I would have all of these additional charges on my bill: "Topped off washer fluid: $3.00"; "Put air in tires: $2.00", "Added transmission fluid: $3.00", and so on. Again, all I asked for was an oil change. Because of the proximity to my house, I dealt with the additional charges because of the convenience of their location. Then, one day I noticed my car was leaking A LOT of oil. I asked Merriman's to take a look at it. Their diagnosis: the oil plug bolt had been cross-threaded and stripped. My response to them was, "Well you are the only place I take the car for its oil changes; so one of your mechanics obviously did it." The man working at the cash register never attempted to take care of the problem, nor did he even say "I'm sorry". Like an idiot, I continued to use them for oil changes...again because of the proximity to my house. However, for me, the last straw was the day I picked up the car (after an oil change) and on the bill, they had charged me for 8 quarts of oil. I asked the mechanic how they were able to get 8 quarts of oil into an engine that only holds 4 quarts. His response "That's how much it took". That was the day I completely lost my temper, DEMANDED that the charge be removed from the bill (which they reluctantly did), and told them it was the last time they would ever see me. Ten years later, I can happily say I have not set foot back in the business. I also have several coworkers, whose vehicles have been ruined by their mechanics. I continue to be amazed that they are still in business, but this town is clearly full of people who place CONVENIENCE over QUALITY. Or who delude themselves into thinking the place is a decent garage. Believe me: It isn't. NEVER AGAIN. read more

I called Merryman's to see if they were able to help weld a trailer toolbox onto our trailer. They were efficient, super friendly, and the best customer service we have found in a long time. If you are wondering if Merryman's can do a good job, keep in mind that this locally owned, family run business has been open for 46 years for a reason. Highly recommend!!! read more

Be Careful going here. I only took my car in for emission and inspection. I paid my bill, which I didn't look at until I got home ( I realize that was a mistake on my part). When I did look over the bill. They had added fees for changing a bulb, which wasn't burnt out, and a windshield wiper that I had just replaced a month before. They made no mention of either of these items to me when I checked out. If they can't be honest with a simple inspection, how would someone trust them with something notably more pricey. read more

The transmission on my van failed 2 miles from our destination after being driven from Massachusetts. Merryman responded within 15 minutes and towed the van to the destination so we could off load. They returned a few hours later to tow the van to their service center and inspect the transmission. Emergency repairs were performed and the van was returned to service the next day. We were able to make the return trip to MA successfully. They were friendly, helpful and the bill was very reasonable. If you are looking for a towing service that will not take advantage of the situation, Merryman is it. read more

I could not say enough about how wonderful these guys are.  They take customer service to a whole new level.  In fact, this was the best customer service I have ever experienced. I was traveling 1.5 hours to Frederickburg to catch a 1 PM train to NYC.  30 minutes from the train station, a series of red warnng lights came on in my car.   My car was slowing dying as I barely rolled into their lot.  They knew I was coming and were ready when I arrived.  They quickly took my information and drove me to the train station.  Can you believe my car almost died on the road, yet I still made my train?   Don't let the small facade fool you.  They are true professionals.  The office is clean and so is their delivery van.  They quickly diagnosed my car and called me within a hour with a diagnosis.  Their staff is exceptionally friendly and courtesous.  They called me to see if I would like the car delivered to the train station for my return.  They asked me!   Of course, I said yes.  They even called back 15 minutes later to tell me exactly where they parked it.   Let these guys take care of your car.  You will be glad you did!! read more

I took my car here for an oil change. As part of the service they charged me for filling my wiper fluid, which was empty when I took a look under the hood a day or two later. Additionally, they charged me for filling up the anti-freeze, which I had done myself prior to dropping the car off for service. When I confronted the manager (Charlie) about the apparent fraud he was evasive and unapologetic, with an attitude that seemed to say, "Well, you caught me . . ." Eventually he returned my money for the wiper fluid and anti-freeze service. I don't recommend taking your car here. But if you choose to do so, be sure to scrutinize your bill very carefully. read more
