We dined here for our 50th Anniversary celebration. Food was great. Atmosphere was nice and service was outstanding.

I had the ossobuco, and I took the leftovers home. My dog had the bone. Both of us got sick. Took us 3 days to recover!

Terrible!! Four of us decided to try it based on great reviews. We were the 2nd table there so not busy. It took 20 minutes to get drinks. $9.25 for an Irish coffee and $9.00 for glass of wine. Two of us ordered lasagna with a side of sausage and two of us ordered cannelloni along with 2 of the soups. Soups arrived barely lukewarm. Sent back to heat up. Food arrived. Both lasagnas were sent back twice (!!!) because cold in center and cannelloni was total mush with hard pasta on bottom. Had to ask for sausage side cause they forgot it. Decided it was frozen lasagna that they nuked. If this was "fine Italian dining" I'll cook it myself at home!! Place was dark and dingy looking like it was from the 60's. Better food and service at many other Italian restaurants. Don't waste your $$ here. Very disappointed!! read more

This place is one of my new favorites. I took my girlfriend here because she wanted to try it out. Let me say that the food and the service is great. This is a high end place. I had the lamb, I know it is $30 but well worth it. The piece of lamb was huge and I could not finish it all so I took the rest home. This has always been our choice for special occasions and we have been going there for many years, even before they did some renovation work. But, last night we went and I have to say I was not entirely pleased as I have been in the past. First, where we were seated the air conditioner seem to be directed right on top of our table and it being a cool night outside and then coming in and being even colder from the AC I mentioned it to our waiter and he said he even felt the draft on the back of his neck. He said he would see if he could put it in a little higher. I think he did because it did feel a little bit more comfortable after that although it was cycling on and off. Then the second complaint was I ordered a fish dish and it came with angel hair the fish was very good, the artichokes were very good but I have to say there was just too muchof a lemon taste in the angel hair and I could not finish it and I did not even take it home because my husband is allergic to nuts and there were almonds in the dish as mentioned in the menu. Thirdly, our waiter, Art, had been very attentive throughout the whole meal but we had to wait nearly 10 minutes after asking for our check for it to be brought to our table. Then as we were leaving, we had parked in the back, and had to walk past the restrooms and we're a little taken aback by the smells coming from there. Mesa is the best Italian restaurant in Ocala. One of the best I've been to anywhere! Been there many times and have tried almost every fish. From the classic lasagna, to Chicken Marsala, Chicken Piccata, to linguini with clam sauce-it's all all perfect! The atmosphere is good, dark and staff super friendly and professional. Great place for a romantic dinner for 2, or a party table of 10. Want yo done alone? Sit at the bar for lively conversation with Heather-sweetheart! Reasonably priced-you just can't go wrong here. I had low expectations of an Italian restaurant in Ocala, Florida. Coming from Boston, I didn't expect much. Boy was I surprised. I arrived to this well appointed Italian restaurant, with attractive linen table cloths and napkins, and was warmly greeted. I was given the menus, the wine menu and regular menu. They offered a great selection of both. I chose the Chicken Sorentino, which is chicken, layered with eggplant and cheese, and served with a vodka sauce. The meal started with warm bread and a basil infused oil, followed by a very nice salad. The main dish arrived, and it was prepared perfectly, with a side of ziti. Absolutely delicious. I don't often get to Ocala, but the next time I go I will be sure to return to this restaurant. read more

Great ambiance, great service, great food and great wine. Everything you want right here. We went to celebrate a birthday. We ordered the lamb shanks, calamari (cooked perfectly and melts in your mouth and crispy), filet mignon which was perfectly cooked, scallops with an amazing grit cake. Mahi with linguini was perfectly made and the clam dish was also amazing. The meals are pretty large portions so if you like leftovers you'll love this place. This is the best Italian restaurant in the area. It rivals places in NY, NJ and PA where I am from originally. Jose is the owner and usually walk around and greets returning customers in between his overseeing and assisting with all their homemade Italian specialities. After waiting 20 months, since moving to Ocala, we finally got to Mesa de Notte. Seemed like ever time we planned to go, something happened to postpone or cancel. So now I have this built up anticipation, have heard, mostly, good reviews and, maybe, have built up expectations that MDN can't meet. Made reservations for four, arrived almost on time, and were sat right away in a booth in the front. I slid into one side, other woman in the party slid into the other! She got quite a surprise, it was wet, not a wipe down the seat wet, but someone spilled something and didn't wipe it up wet! She sopped it up with her napkin, and mine, when the wait staff came over, we asked for dry ones and mentioned why, oh well, no oh sorries, or any reaction just got us dry ones at a later point. There was a loud Birthday party next to us that were demanding of everyone's time and attention but we enjoyed the company of the people we were with, although it either cut the service down to mediocre or it is usually mediocre. My husband had veal franchisee which was to his liking, I had the sampler with eggplant, ravioli and lasagna. My sauce was cold, my pasta were hot, leading ,e to believe they put the sauce on after it comes out of the oven. My lasagna was crisp and brown on the top, hard and crispy, just like mama makes! The server never came back until it was time for dessert. Food, a 3, service a 3, guess I can wait another 20 months for a retry! read more

If you have been Ocala for more than 24 hours you have probably realized that there aren't many decent eating options. Messa de Notte was welcomed exception. It's good not great. There are one of these restaurants on every corner where I grew up so I maybe hypercritical. I had the Linguine with Red Clam sauce. It was good. Although I'm not sure but I think I like canned clams better in this dish than fresh ones. The stuffed mushrooms were good. Nice wine list. Service was good. I would recommend reservations if there anything going on in the area. This is a 5 star restaurant in Ocala. read more
