    Enchiladas and a taco. Good!
    Mike S.

Good Mexican food in Lakewood. There are many Meso Maya locations, and this one is quite large with both indoor and outdoor seating. You do not need a reservation, which is great. Our server was super friendly, and the margaritas are quite good. The food is satisfying and flavorful. With a ton of great Mexican restaurants in Dallas, Mesa Maya is a good option when you need a fix.

LOVE their chilaquiles and their queso dip with brisket is always a must. The ambiance of restaurant is very nice and clean. Service is always quick & attentive. The prices are fair too! Hidden Gem

The ribeye tacos were delicious. Jessica was my server and she was excellent. Super fast and attentive. Really enjoyed my experience!

I LOVE Meso Maya! The review is specifically for the Dallas location here. I give the Plano location 5 stars! The good- the ambiance is so cute! I love the outdoor eating area, which is where we requested to sit. Inside is nice, but dimmer and more noisy with the music. The chips and salsa are always fresh. Their salsa is very unique and one of my favorites. Our waiter was wonderful in checking on us. And my chicken tacos were delicious as usual. The black beans and rice are always seasoned to perfection here. The miss- my boyfriend's enchiladas tasted like they were made with experienced dairy/ cream. He actually woke up today feeling nauseous, and I suspect it may have been related. The enchiladas here are usually pretty yummy too! I will say I found my tacos a bit greasier than usual at the Plano location, but still delectable. I recommend Meso Maya for sure for a unique twist on conventional Tex Mex!!

Boiled (not braised) chunks of fatty pork in the pozole rojo.

IYKYK. Pozole cravings are real and powerful. Last night I needed to feed the demon so I searched Yelp. The results returned several choices and I decided to order delivery from Meso Maya because they are close and I was hungry! I've been there for salads and have enjoyed their "sopa de lima" in the past. The pozole rojo I received was sad and disappointing. I've included a photo. It seemed that this soup, which is meant to take hours to perfect, was created for quick assembly. The pork, instead of being slowly braised was clearly boiled, then indiscriminately cut into chunks with no effort to trim wide veins of fat. The broth, which should be deep in chili flavor and rich from the pork was just chicken broth with the chili seasoning added I suppose when it is assembled for an order. The toppings provided on the side were adequate for the most part, but did not include any lime, which is kind of a requirement. The serving size was large, as it should be at a $13 price point, but unfortunately I couldn't eat more than a couple of bites. So a day later, my pozole monster is still tormenting me. Who serves your favorite pozole rojo? Message me with your recommendations!

I don't get what makes this restaurant so great, but it is. Chef Nico Sanchez has ensured that this is not your typical Mexican place, this is flavor like you've never experienced. Even the familiar dishes have an extra touch to them. And the salsa is good enough to drink with a straw.

This was such a nice clean spot for lunch! I did take out and I got the pozole rojo ($7) and pastel de mora ($9). The bartender was super quick in getting my order and preparing it. I really appreciate that they packed every part of each item separately so none of it got soggy. They even added a bag of complimentary chips with salsa!! The pozole rojo was so flavorful and a huge portion for the cup. It wasn't spicy and had a good amount of meat. The pastel de moras was great too- esp the vanilla ice cream was amazing. The cake was bigger than expected and infused with blueberry flavor.

Guac me like a hurricane. A hurricane of flavor hitting your taste buds with every bite. The weather forecast calls for an empty stomach especially if you plan on indulging in chips with salsa, queso, and guacamole to start your meal. I'm glad we did because we started with the queso and guacamole combo. The guac was fresher than my apartment right after I spray febreeze before having company over. We ordered 4 entrees. Don't worry, I had a bite of everything because we do it family style in this household. We had the Tacos De La Casa - Camaron. You can't go wrong with a shrimp taco especially with a vibrant mango salsa. Taco bout a good time. Next, we have the Cochinita Pibil (it's okay, don't be nervous. Just point to the menu item). If you're looking for a (pork) shoulder to cry on you might have hit the jackpot. The juicy pork with pickled red onion is a match made in heaven. However, the star of the show had to be the Budin Azteca Camaron. The roasted creamy tomatillo sauce doused over shrimp and house made corn tortillas layered with three cheeses is the combination you've been searching for. I imagine it's how Lewis & Clark felt when they met Sacagawea. This is the type of dish your mom orders, and you take home the leftovers even though it's her birthday dinner. I highly recommend Meso Maya if you're in search of a fiesta on a week night.

Service was great, margs were soooo delicious, and the queso was to die for! Entrees were 3/5, not awful but underwhelming. My boyfriend tried mole for the first time and our fabulous waitress had him sample it before ordering his meal since she said it's not a taste everyone loves! So kind! He got sick the day after eating here but of course cannot pin point him falling ill to this restaurant.

    Avocado margarita
    Kenya R.

We have tried most of the other restaurants in the area, so we decided to give it a try. Our waitress recommended the avocado margarita, and I was hesitant. In the end, I was pleasantly surprised. My husband got the bourbon margarita, and said it just didn't mix well. I got the budin azteca pollo. It was good, but a bit too tangy for my liking, and I also think it would be better with thighs instead of breast. My husband got the arrechera. He said it was okay. They have good guacamole, but the queso Blanco is just ok. The staff I'd friendly. I'll go back and try something different.

First time at this location. Was super exited as this looked so promising. Ambiance is nice and I like the location. Sad to report that the Carnitas, which is my favorite thing to order when I go to a Meso Maya restaurant. Carnitas tacos, not up to standards. Meat was crisped cooked too long. Hard and no flavor. Tortillas were also just ok. I told the waiter that my glass had water/soap residue on the rim. He only brought me another glass, never replaced or even offered to replace the soda that was poured into the cup. Disappointed visit, will keep my fave place up in North Dallas.

A private room just for us?

I am not going to change my rating from 2016 but for different reasons. In 2016, when this restaurant first opened, the atmosphere was just too noisy and crazy to be enjoyable. This time, 5 years later, the reason for 3 stars is the food. The service was fine, no complaints. I went to Open Table for a reservation at 5:15 on a Saturday and got a reservation for 6pm--every time slot was open, which says something. Several restaurants have opened up at that intersection which clearly have cut into Meso's business. We were seated in a nice room by ourselves for awhile. We started with guac, which is a very generous portion. But it lacked salt so we had to add. The free salsa was no longer smoky as I remember it. I had the mole poblano and while it was not bad, the mole lacked deep flavor. Before, it was deeply flavored and complex with a slightly sweet undertone and a little kick of heat at the end. This time, it was just bland, no flavors that stood out. It was simply blah. Mexican food is supposed to be a celebration of flavors, spices, and contrasts. This mole no longer is that. The wife had the ceviche salad and the seafood tasted moldy. She did not eat it because she was afraid of getting sick. So that was a waste of money. Overall, it was a disappointing meal and I doubt that we will return. For many years Meso Maya was our go-to and our favorite restaurant for non-Tex-Mex Mexican, but I think we need to find an alternative.

Kyoto Sunset ($15): This one wasn't bad and tasted like honeydew. The ingredients include honeydew Calpico, so that makes sense. Johnny Walker Black ($16): This was our friend's drink, which I think was just coke and Johnny Walker. Nothing special about the taste either.
