Kami at the bar is great! Our first visit to Cantina La Rosa resulted in great marks from Kami and her peers at the bar, good marks on food and eh on the hosts/reservation situation. It was a Friday night and we tried calling twice to figure out how long the wait was. No answer on the phone despite 3 calls. So we showed up. The person who arrived before us told me she tried to call and was told she had to be in person to put her name on the waitlist. When she said how large her party was, they said they had patio seating available to which she said she left her kids at home as she was told when she called there was a wait, so she needed to go get them. They said they'd hold the patio table for 15 minutes. I'm up next and ask for a table for 2, but now all the tables are filled, including the patio, so I go on the waitlist. We go to the bar to have drinks. We notice several 4 top tables with 2 people sitting at each. Mgmt take note: you're missing out on revenue! Soon two seats at the bar open so we take them and then realize we can eat at the bar. No more waitlist for us. Then our experience with the bar staff starts. They are all wonderful. Kami was especially helpful and authentic. Very easy to talk with even while she kept up with the super busy Friday night bar orders. She gave us several menu recommendations for apps, entrees, and desserts. All were spot on. So what did we get? TJ tacos were fantastic; best thing we ate. Mexican "mozzarella sticks" were delicious. Complementary chips and house salsa were very good, although the salsa had random tomato chunks that could have been cut a bit smaller. Chicken enchiladas had a good amount of chicken meat, although we wished for a smidge more sauce. And we finished with the lemon/lime desert which was a nice light finish to a filling meal. Also the margaritas (we had the regular and the prickly pair) were also good. Love that they give you the options of salt, Tajín, or nothing. We hope they change their reservation stance (ie do the opposite of what the have today, which is no reservations Thurs-Sun, and reservations available the rest of the week), but nonetheless we'll be back. :) read more

For those who were unaware, this is the old Fernando's space at Midway and NW Hwy, and the neighborhood has been anticipating its replacement for a while. When it soft-opened via reservations only, scuttlebutt was mixed, so we had to check it out. We beat the after church crowd for Sunday lunch, so we were seated quickly. The service was outstanding-attentive without being overbearing. My frozen Paloma was delicious, and it came in handy when my entree (tuna tacos) was served a solid five minutes after the rest of my party. The taste was good (strips were cooked a perfect medium) but the fish itself was far tougher than I expected. Other members of my party were satisfied with their food, so maybe it was just me. On balance it was a good experience, but there are kinks to be worked out. I'll hope for the best, but I will give them a bit to work on those before I return. read more

Whoever did the hiring needs a raise and bonus. That person contacted GQ and hired a goodlooking staff. David Santiago has a smile that is contagious. He is very charming and attentive ar the bar. I enjoyed my visit. There was another sweet man that was helping in the bar area who was friendly as well and really works with passion for the team. . The place is gorgeous and I liked the restroom as they are cozy and unique. Guacamole was delicious with egg on it but stir the other goodies were at the bottom. The salsa is warm and fragrant and the chips are perfect. Beautiful place and much better than the old place. They are new and working out kinks so I'm not docking them but they do need to work on seating and reservations - seems like they are favoring VIP clientele. Overall, it's fantastic. read more

We checked this place out for lunch recently and had a great time. I made a reservation via Resy, so we didn't have a wait for our table. The place is massive with booth seating inside, in the bar area, and on the covered patio. We chose a booth inside. The complimentary chips and salsa were really good. The salsa was fire roasted and served warm. We tried the prickly pear and cantina margaritas and the CLR queso to start. My wife ordered the seared tuna tacos. I tried the protein bowl with steak. Everything was flavorful and the portion sizes were great. Our server was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back to try more menu options soon. read more

I love the decor and vibe. This is a cozy intimate dining location in the bar area. Interesting layout as they have a family type dining area and a separate bar area dining for adults only. The outdoor patio is really nice. The patio is covered and surrounded by plants giving it a nice oasis feel. We ate at the bar and the service and attention to customers was wonderful. It looks like they spent a fortune redecorating this place that used to be Fernando's. It is very luxe. It's pretty dark in there except for the patio that is closed in. It was my first time and I had poblano chicken enchiladas. It came with black beans and rice. The poblano sauce was pretty mellow. The salsa is fire roasted and not very blended and has a nice flavor. Personal preference I wish it was a little more blended because it's just easier to dip. Friendly efficient service. Different seating options. I am glad to have a nice restaurant back in that location. read more

I do not write reviews lightly, but what occurred at Cantina La Rosa deserves attention. On Sunday, I personally visited the restaurant to make a reservation for eight guests. The gentleman who assisted me was courteous and professional, and I left confident that everything was properly arranged. When we arrived, however, the table assigned to us was completely inadequate for eight adults. The space was so insufficient that my husband was literally sitting outside the edge of the table. I calmly approached the hostess to request a solution. Shortly afterward, another staff member approached, and as I respectfully explained the issue, he told me, "Don't speak to me like that, because I'm not going to help you." At no point did I raise my voice or behave inappropriately. I was addressing a straightforward seating issue that should have been handled professionally. To be fair, the rest of the staff was pleasant, and our waitress was especially kind and attentive. We truly appreciated her service. Hospitality is measured by how situations are handled when something goes wrong. I trust management will take this feedback seriously and ensure future guests are treated with the professionalism and respect that should be standard. read more

The inside of the restaurant is gorgeous with a low lit bar and painted ceiling; the patio is large with real foliage blocking the parking lot view. New place, was excited to try it - we had wanted to order take out because it's my birthday and I have two little kids - so, the idea was to try a new place, but from home. Well, they don't do take out. Surprise. Whatever. So, we drag my two littles with us. Ordered. Beef fajitas were over done and had zero flavor; same for the chicken fajitas. Prickles pear marg was decent. The snapper was decent, a bit fishy. Ambiance was fine; beautiful buildout but dark and a bit loud - our server - Fernando (fitting, right?) was great - not over bearing by any means and very helpful! The manager came by as we were leaving; seeing we did not have dessert. He asked why. I said, well? We weren't offered. We had tabbed out at this point. My husband chimed in with it's my birthday, joking to sing me happy birthday - well, surprise again - they don't do birthday anything! Tables have little space between them, so it feels crowded. The servers were friendly and caring but dysfunctional. It took 20min to get drinks, water and chips with salsa. Orders finally taken after 20min. Quesadillas with shrimp were large and full of shrimp. Considered to be very good. Only need 4 for dinner! I really want this place to succeed. While the food had good flavor the menu is limited and so are the portion sides. I paid north of $20 for chicken fajitas and receoved six very thin slices of chicken (about the and 1.5 long and half inch wide). In fact there were more potatoes than chicken on plate. First time there since the new concept opened and it was underwhelming. First the table we were seated at was the furthest away in the back of the patio even though there were many available tables and booths available. I wasn't initially bothered until the sun set and I feared the possible rodent visitors as we were located adjacent to the back door of the kitchen which made me twitchy. Then my husband asked if he could order 1 chicken and 1 beef taco al carbon and was told no they don't do that even though the tacos came hand rolled (?) so we couldn't understand why that was such a big deal. And finally, as we departed, we discovered the main entrance door has a knob which has to be turned to unlatch the door to exit which is a major fire hazard life safety issue as well as ada violation and against dallas fire code.
