Great burgers! Love the soft potato bun and the smash burger, with the crisp edges, reminded me of Shake Shack, but better. If you like thick juicy patty's, this is not the place for you, but I'm more about the toppings then the actual patty. And a good sauce always sells it for me. I got the Samburger and was thoroughly pleased. The tater tots are perfectly deep fried and crisp. I got the chicken tenders for my niece, but unfortunately she is quite picky and didn't like the style, she would prefer Chick-Fil-A ....however that meant I got to eat them and they were great with the secret sauce. Clearly need to work on expanding her palate. It did take about 40 minutes for us to get our food on a Tuesday afternoon, but I had nowhere to be and I felt it was worth the wait. They had a bar in the seating area where you could get beer or wine while you wait, and they also had outdoor seating. Good lunch spot, when you're feeling a burger. Been dying to come here and I enjoyed my food . I got the Mcwhat which is chicken tender hamburger patty LTM secret sauce with tater tots. Wait time was not too bad you have a bar where you can grab a drink. Atmosphere was tight with available seating upstairs. They're other shops within proximity as well. Only thing that concerned me was the staff have to search all over with the number you was given to get your food. I believe the staff should have easy access throughout the establishment. Oh my! The Cargo District officially serves my favorite burger in ILM. We had our dog with us, so hubby went inside Mess Hall to order while I stayed on the shaded patio outside. Ordering was quick and simple and within 6 minutes we were served amazing burgers with tots. There's a great selection of beers, but we chose LaCroix water for our lunch beverage. There was a slight breeze, so eating outdoors in August wasn't too bad. But let's get back to the outstanding burger- which was served on a potato bun. The old fashioned burger is a double patty, cheese, tomato, lettuce and special sauce. Simply outstanding. The burgers are thin and cooked on a griddle, so you get the char around the edges. It's a messy burger, but so yummy. I love the food, the vibe and the fact that it's dog friendly. We can't wait to go back and try the other items on the menu. I noticed this place when I went to go shopping at The Plant Outpost, which is also a must go to if you are in need of beautiful cactus and indoor plants! Anyways, back to lunch... The mess hall has its own "mess sauce " and that definitely makes the burger. If you get a chance I highly recommend stopping by and giving this place a try. The bacon on my burger was perfect along with the bacon and I decided to add to my cheesy tots. When it comes to the tots, you can add toppings, which I thought was really cool. You can make them up however you'd like! I wasn't very impressed with their drink selection but I normally like to drink just water anyways. It was a little pricey for the size but that wouldn't really detour me from going back. ($30 for 2 burgers, 2 tots, 2 tap waters & tip). After that, first the burgers are misrepresented the photos give the impression that the burgers are much larger than they really are. This was my first time eating at the Mess Hall and I went on a friends recommendation. I don't know what their old location was like, but I was thrilled with their restaurant. There was plenty of seating inside, outside in the front were tables for 2, and on the side were long picnic tables. I ordered the McWhat? Which is a beef patty with chicken tenders on a potato roll with tater tots on the side. The tater tots were nice and crunchy and the McWhat? was totally out of this world, full of flavor! All the employees were very friendly. Just so people reading this know that you place your order at the counter and are given a small pager that vibrates when your food is ready, then you go back to the counter to pick ip your food. Their parking lot is small, however, they do offer alternative parking areas if you look on their Facebook page they have an aerial photo that shows every place you can park your car. Tried the Mcwhat tonight. Not a fan of this burger. The chicken was chewy and had an odd consistency. Almost didn't seem like real chicken. The beef was good but very thin.
