Pot roast with yams and greens
    Erin K.

The wait will be long, but it is worth it!! I ordered the pot roast with yams and collard greens, and everything on the plate was delicious! They do not skimp on the portions! The full combo plate was generous for the price ($18). I will definitely be returning to try the pork chops and meatloaf.

Messi Soul Kitchen is a no frills, order first, seat yourself, or take out eatery; but! It's ALL ABOUT THE FOOD. One eats there to get down messy, trust me. Thee most delicious southern soul food eatery we've had the pleasure of patronizing in ages. Oxtails and pork chops were succulent! The side dishes are divine too! It was 3pm on a Saturday, there was a line to the door. The line never ended. People waited. So thankful we did. I bookmarked for future travels to Corona area :D

Whoo hoo! They're just moving to a new location. As they close the Brick and Mortor they will move to a commercial kitchen in Norco effective 10/3 and another commercial kitchen downtown Riverside in November. Pickup, delivery and catering will be available at both locations! The food is scrumptious!!

This is THE spot for the best food in Riverside. Large portions of food! Enough for two persons easily. The smothered pork chops are off the charts and the pot roast.... Melts in your mouth. So tender The staff... Always on top of it and super nice. 5 + stars!!!

If there ever was a restaurant that was worth the wait, this is it! Stood in line for 30 minutes and I could hear that they ran out of some items, like the oxtail, but they were cooking up more so some people paid for it and then said they would be back in an hour. I got the smothered pork and it was so tender, no knife needed. My son got baked chicken with gravy, he said it was good but next time he's gonna try the pot roast. There were lots of sides to choose from, I got greens but also tried the red beans and mac & cheese on my son's plate. Can't forget about the cornbread! Everything was so good. Even though there was a long line, the server remained calm and friendly and the customers were all patient (because they know a good thing when they see it!) Wonderful place and will definitely be coming back.

Food was good, I had the last bit of the yams that were available and I wish they were more fresh. Seemed like scraps. The service needs some work. The line took forever and there were only 2 in front of me. No hello, no sorry for the wait. The lady seemed so over whelmed. Taking orders, packing orders, answering her phone from her watch, just all over the place. 4 people who already ordered, were waiting on their cornbread for quite some time. I also waited about 30-35 mins for one order. A $17.00 plate From start to finish. The food was good but I wish they had some other meat options. Like brisket or beef. Anyhoo I truly enjoyed the Mac and cheese and cornbread.

My aunt was raving about this place, so I took the 2 1/2 hour drive to see. Upon arrival, I wasn't impressed. It's in a strip mall behind the gas station, but the hotel is within walking distance, and that's always a plus. I can't remember the young lady's name, but she had the patience of job. Upon entering, it was nice and simple seating. There was 1 person at the counter being helped, but she couldn't seem to make up her mind. As we patiently waited, more people started to come in, and within 5 minutes, it was packed. You order your food and sit down or get it to go. Saturday was oxtail day, but it was about 5 pm and they were all out, but the other selections were good. Pot Roast, Meat Loaf, BBQ Baked Chicken, Smothered Pork Chops, side Mac n cheese very creamy, greens, yams, Cabbage, Black eyed peas, and green beans, you know good Soul Food. They also have what many call porch kool aid, which was good and hits the spot like grandmas did when you were little. Oh, the portions were large, and you can also get a half-entree or whole entree. It was well worth the drive. Check them out you won't be disappointed.

Excellent slow cooked meats serve in a fast food style. Great music. Courteous service. I go to get soul food I don't or won't cook myself. The oxtails are worth the trip. We got it to go and it didn't disappoint when we got it home.

I just want to say that Messi Soul Kitchen is one of the best soul food places you'll ever find! Their food, service and the vibe is unmatched! I ordered the pot roast over rice and gravy, and let me tell you! It was the bomb! I will be returning and I'm going to tell everyone I know to come and eat at Messi Soul Kitchen!

This is half of the dinner!!!! We still have another half left! Huge portions!!!

Drove down from Vegas to try this place and here's my take on it. 1. Doesn't matter what time you come the wait will be long but worth it! 2. The prices are very reasonable. I got the 2 smothered pork chop over rice and gravy with mac&cheese and sweet potato's for $17.99 plus tax. Huge portions!!! My husband and I split 1 dinner! 3. The pork chop flavor was great but they were slightly overcooked and not tender. But my husbands porkchop was cooked perfect just an FYI All the sides were hitting! So good!!! 4. Lastly that vanilla cake and koolaid was amazing!!! I will definitely be back but this time I want to try the meatloaf and see what it's about. Great customer service, helpful and great attitude! Oh I forgot BEST CORNBREAD IVE EVER HAD!!!!!!! Oh and that slice of cake...OMG the best!!!!

The Mac and cheese balls were still a little cold in the inside but did not take away from their deliciousness. I shared two plates, the Chicken parmigiana and the chicken Alfredo pizza. I really like the chicken parm, it was light and the sauce was flavorful without being too strong. I thought the pizza was okay, extremely cheesy and dry. I would have enjoyed a saucier pizza, the cheese was very overwhelming. The service was very fast and friendly. Checked in on us multiple times and made us feel comfortable. It was a good dinner!

We went to the location there, and everyone loved the food and the friendly service. We had wanted to go back ever since, but unfortunately there aren't any locations in the Los Angeles area, and all the nearby restaurants are quite far away. This time, one of my brother suggested that we stop by Texas Roadhouse during our family trip, so all five of us went there for lunch together. After we arrived, we told the hostess that we had a party of five. We were seated almost immediately without much of a wait. Before ordering, I went to the restroom and happened to meet a woman wearing a Mexico soccer jersey. Since Mexico was playing England that evening, we started chatting about the game. We agreed that Mexico is a strong team and that they had a good chance of winning. When I returned to our table, I was surprised to find out that the same woman I had just talked to in the restroom was our server! We both smiled and said, "Oh!" and "Nice to meet you again." Everyone ordered steak for lunch. I ordered the 12 oz. New York Strip and asked for it to be cooked well-done, but not too charred or overly burnt. They cooked it exactly the way I wanted, and I was very happy with it. My mom and my two brothers ordered New York Strip, T-Bone, and Filet Mignon steaks and my father ordered the steak and shrimp combo. Each entrée comes with a choice of two side dishes, and every side dish we ordered was absolutely delicious. Texas Roadhouse also serves complimentary fresh bread with cinnamon butter, and both the bread and the butter are incredibly good. Everything we ordered was delicious, the service was exceptionally friendly, and the steaks were cooked perfectly. One thing I especially appreciate is that it's surprisingly difficult to find a restaurant that cooks a well-done steak just right. Many places tend to overcook it until it's too charred or burnt, but Texas Roadhouse always gets it just right. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the bread is fantastic, the steaks are excellent, and it's definitely one of my favorite restaurants. I really wish Texas Roadhouse would open locations in Los Angeles or Burbank someday. A few additional notes: They also offer complimentary peanuts, which are fun to crack open and delicious to snack on while waiting for your meal. If you ask for more bread, they'll happily bring you another basket along with extra cinnamon butter. They are very generous with the portions, which we really appreciate. For the sake of our dental health and stomach health, our family usually doesn't order soda or other sugary drinks. We normally just drink water without ice. However, my mom felt like she had a slight upset stomach that day, so she ordered a Sprite. They also have a nice variety of mocktails on the menu.

I ordered the Country Fried Steak, scrambled eggs, hash browns and biscuits with gravy. My wife had a BBQ pulled beef sandwich with fries. The food came out rather quickly. I was surprised that everything was only warm at best. The country fried steak was huge and smothered in gravy. The steak itself would not have had much flavor if it wasn't for the gravy. The gravy had a good consistency and ok flavor. The frozen hash browns were a miss. The scrambled eggs and biscuits and gravy were the best part of the meal but both suffered some from not being very hot. The biscuits were light and fluffy. My wife was happy with her pulled beef sandwich and fries. She did say the meat was a bit fatty. The serving sizes were ginormous. I noticed one waitress walking around with an armload of food containers to pass out to customers. Since we were traveling on, we did not want to take our leftovers. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. The restaurant overall looks very dated. For the amount of food you get, the prices seem reasonable. If the meal I had is representative of the normal quality of food, I would prefer to eat elsewhere.

Your favorite Yelp correspondent and occasional Uber Eats driver found himself in the northeast corner of Ontario after ferrying a Mediterranean meal from my hometown of Diamond Bar to Ontario when my attention was riveted by the "Kra Z Kai's Laotian BBQ" signage alight on the building. Upon entering into the communal dining hall, I discovered that Kra Z Kai's apparently shuttered a month ago. I immediately noticed the long queue snaking its way to the register at Shootz. Though I was crestfallen about Kra Z Kai's closure, I decided to roll the dice -shootz my luck, if you'll pardon my brutal pun- and try out Shootz. I tabbed the best looking item on their pictorial menu- Their much balkyhooed Kimchi Buttered Katsu Chicken Combo, which comes with spicy Mac Salad and steamed rice tossed with green onions and furikake, a popular Nipponese seasoning comprised of minced dried seaweed (nori), sesame seeds and salt/pepper. The moneymaker dish is excellent. The katsu chicken has a nice but not overly crunchy exterior, drenched in a flavorful, Umani-rich sauce made of kimchi butter. Shootz has locations in Ontario, Whittier and Stanton, so I don't know when I'll have it again...but if I I find myself in Ontario again, then I'll definitely take -you guessed it- another shot.
